Is Bing GPT down for anyone else? It doesn't seem to be a issue with Pi-Hole and it is making me quite confused. There don't seem to be recent headlines about it and I know it worked literally 2 days ago. Does anyone have ideas?

I was messaging the Bing! Chatbot today, (fairly new to using it) and I noticed something odd after giving feedback. The bot said it was limited to 5 replies, whereas it's showing it's capable of 20. I inquired and it said only 5 are available when I asked 4 already. I asked it to define and then another on it, and it said I got confused, I only sent 5. After asking again because it's the 7th now technically, it closed topic. (It may be more or less depending on the definition it's using. I was also using balanced setting) Very odd behavior. Hey LTT peeps, I don't know about you all, but I'm kinda angry the whole AI chatbot search situation. It seems like Google and Microsoft are pouring all their resources into making AI buddies who can answer questions for us when, in my opinion, they should be doubling down on their search engines. Am I the only one who feels like search engines are still pretty hit or miss? Sometimes, I'll type in a search query and I'll still get a whole bunch of irrelevant results just because a few keywords matched. I mean, c'mon, we're in 2023! Wouldn't it be amazing if Google (or Bing, for that matter) could actually understand what we're looking for when we type in a search prompt? Imagine if the search engine could read websites and only give us the results that are super relevant to our query. That's the dream, right? Not only would this be awesome for users like us, but it could actually be a huge win for Microsoft and Google, advertisers, and websites. By providing a better search experience, they'd keep users coming back, which in turn means more eyeballs on their ads. That's a win-win situation if I've ever seen one. Plus, with more relevant search results, businesses who advertise on their platforms would see better conversions, making them even more likely to continue investing in ads. Now, let's talk about the current way Bing works. It searches the web and only gives you an answer, without showing ads on its results page. This has some negative implications. Websites face problems because AIs are reading their content, using up traffic, and using the knowledge on the site, but there's no actual human traffic. That means nobody is seeing their ads or interacting with the website in any meaningful way. By focusing on improving search engines, Microsoft and Google could address these issues, leading to a healthier internet ecosystem overall. It's a win-win-win! So yeah, my point is that I think Microsoft and Google need to go back to their roots and focus on making their search engines truly great. Chatbots are cool and all, but they won't make our lives much easier if we still have to wade through a sea of irrelevant search results to find what we're looking for. Plus, it's a smart business move that benefits everyone involved! What do you guys think? Are you happy with the current state of search engines, or are you with me in wishing for some serious improvements? Let's get a discussion going! Cheers!

Summary Cyber-Defense campus, a research arm of the Swiss DoD in everything related to cyber-security and cyber-defense, has released a first version of its report on the impact Large Language Models could have on cyber-security. After an introduction of the tech behind LLM, reviewing current models, and citing some fundamental limitations, they list the main threats they see, with the ones most relevant to the LTT audience being: - Phishing, especially when they have already compromised a system and can use Microsoft Office 365 Copilot - Ability to search better and deeper and have summarization of findings - Vulnerability of the code generated by them, unlikely to be detected by beginner coders most likely to use them to write code - Private information leakage from interactions with models when they are learning from interactions - Hijacking systems that are controlled by LLMs (a bit like SQL injections) In the part where they review Bing Chat and GPT-4, they cite and link the Feb 10th WAN show with a timestamp as the source for their evaluation of abilities and the most likely architecture and training modes used to achieve it. Quotes My thoughts Looks like a report that falls straight into the intersection of the currently two hot topics for LTT over the last couple of months. I would have been curious to hear Luke's take on the subject. Also, watching professionally and with straight face Linus and Luke going nuts live for almost an hour, Two Soyjacks style, might have been a new experience for some of them. Bing just messaged me in Skype... Hey, this is Bing! I'm here to help you.(smileeyes) Ask me any type of question, like finding recipes with what's in your fridge, vegan restaurants in Cambridge, or drafting a story for curious kids. In groups, remember to mention me with @Bing I'm an AI preview, so I'm still learning. Sometimes I might say something weird. Don't get mad at me, I'm just trying to get better! If you want to start over, type newtopic. And if you want to give me feedback, just report a concern. How can I help you today?

Original Source (Vice) Tweet from Google employee Shane Huntley Search for "tank man" on Bing Search for " tiananmen square 1989" on Bing On the 32nd anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre, Bing has censored image results for "tank man" and "tiananmen square 1989". The first person to notice this is none other than a Google employee. Image search results for "tank man" are returned blank, even when searching with SafeSearch off (and from a UK IP address too). Interestingly, both Yahoo and DuckDuckGo are having the same "issue". Apparently the issue is due to "human error", but I'm highly sceptical and believe there are other forces at play. My thoughts It's often discussed that "Big Tech" have too much power over the media and censorship (i.e. a former US president being suspended from social media), but the idea that foreign countries can encroach on these companies and theoretically censor huge parts of history, including the massacre of protesters, is incredibly unnerving. Many of us are incredibly lucky to have the right to a free vote, the freedom of speech and assembly, but we mustn't take these for granted, and that starts with censorship of history.

While watching the 10/7/2022 WAN Show, at 1:40:26, Luke mentioned his annoyance with how Windows 10 will search bing while searching local indexed files. I've wasted quite a lot of time accidentally launching a bing search instead of finding the folder/file I know exists on my pc. So, after years of thinking that this "feature" sucks, I did a quick google search, "disable windows 10 search on edge" and looked at https://www.techbout.com/disable-web-results-in-windows-search-44034/. It's done, no more opening edge by accident. I followed step two, and it immediately worked; definitely worth a look if you have been a victim of an accidental bing search. Go check out the website but ill give a quick how-to here. Disclaimer, I'd always recommend backing up your registry before messing around with it. Open Registry Editor HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search Right-click Search and click New, pick a DWORD (32-bit) & Name it BingSearchEnabled & make sure that you set the value to 0 Done & Enjoy!

This video shows comparison of two events. One from Microsoft a d one Google about AI integration in Bing and Google. Microsoft's integration with AI in Bing which I believe is using Chatgpt but will be a more advanced version upon release. Google created their own AI. Seems Microsoft is doing better at this stage. Who will pull ahead and what features looked great for you? https://youtu.be/5X1O5AS4nTc

As part of the Bing rewards, which has now been rebranded Microsoft rewards you are paid to actively use edge browser by the hour until September 30th (speculation on my part is it will continue) rewards equal about a penny an hour which are paid out in gift cards such as amazon, starbucks, gamestop, and microsoft services. http://www.bing.com/explore/rewards-browse-and-earn-intro?FORM=ML140L&OCID=ML140L&wt.mc_id=ML140L&PUBL=RewardsDO&CREA=ML140L As a person who used bing rewards as a 30 second activity every day and made about $5-10 a month from it (paid for a computer part every few years) this is an interesting move.

Removed all other search engine options but still when you highlight something in a webpage and click on search the results all come back using bing as the search engine.I reset the settings and even uninstalled it but it keeps doing the same thing.Any suggestions please?

If you lived in the US, since 2010 you could take advantage of MS's Bing Rewards program to make a quick buck by simply using Bing and doing so for at least 30 hours/month to claim your reward, then last year it added MSN to the experience and as of this week MS has re-branded the initiative to Microsoft Rewards and users will receive points for using the Edge browser, the Windows/MS Store and Bing as your default search engine is a requirement. The points can the be traded for vouchers or credit for Starbuck, Amazon, MS stuff and discounts on MS products. Other changes include tier levels (from member, silver and gold to tier 1 and tier 2) and 1 bing credit = 10 MS points. Currently Bing represents less than 5% of the marketshare and Edge sits below 6% among the other less popular browsers. source: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/aug/19/microsoft-windows-10-browser-edge-pay-users-bing

We'll email it to chille***********@outlook.com soon."

SOURCE: http://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-shuts-down-cortana-search-hacks-microsoft-edge-restriction Holy fucking shit. How is selecting my own default browser and search engine considered a Hack for Cortana? It's not like it even affects the Cortana experience, The blind sheep response in the comments of the article really made me want to headkeybord, it's just like what apple fanboys would say about something like this. Oh, if and when a registry hack for this appears I will make sure to post it in the "guides and tutorials" section. Disgusting. Edit: I'll just play devil's advocate and say that you can turn that whole mess of if you don't want to use it. You can make it's only function to bring up results from Start menu searches.

Bing has a built in Speed Test for internet?
Sharp_3yE posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Just wanted to show that Bing has a built in speed test. I don't know when this started, could have been months ago but I use Bing and it's the first time I've seen it. -
Source : http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/10/bing-profitable-but-microsoft-revenue-down-12-percent-as-shift-to-cloud-continues/ BING is profitable??? #howdidthishappen Does anyone actually use Bing here? I know personally never did, and aside from using Edge with it's built-in Bing search to download Firefox I never went near Bing at all. Is Bing integrated into anything else besides Cortana? (assuming anyone even uses Cortana). $1 billion revenue per quarter, that's a hella high number considering nobody I know even knows what Bing is.

This is so funny.. we were joking around in Software Design and Development class about who uses Bing these days; so we tried to compare Bing and Google Search side by side..

@LinusTech @Slick Chrometana is an extension I use for Chrome that redirects all web searching from Windows 10 and Cortana to Google search instead of the Abomination knows as Bing. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrometana-redirect-bing/kaicbfmipfpfpjmlbpejaoaflfdnabnc?hl=en 50:10 Linus uses Windows 10 search and is brought to Micro$haft's search engine Abomination.

I just signed into Bing and Bing now supports having your interests displayed at the bottom of the homepage and stars mark what your interests are. It will show news topics you are interested in as well as the weather of where you are or places you want to see. Soon, your sports teams will show up as well. Things like this are why I use Bing as well as Google. I only use Google for things that search better on Google. I personally prefer the layout of bing so I often use it.

So, i wanted to look up something on maps and went to use bing maps. It then suggested that I try the new preview bing maps. Heck YEA! why not? It's different and neat from the previous version. Seems similar in ways to google maps and also different with certain designs. Take a look. http://www.bing.com/mapspreview

I think we can agree we have all seen the memes about how Bing sucks and Goodle is like the GabeN of Search engines, but what one do you use and why? I personally was a Yahoo guy, then a Google guy, and now I use Bing about as much as I use Google. http://strawpoll.me/3478576 When You open the Front page of each website, you are greeted with two very different environments. Bing shows a sometimes interesting picture and displays news below with some quick links on top to various Microsoft services such as Office Online. Google provides you with a nice clean front page with quick links to Google services above. When Searching for celebrities, both Google and Bing provide decent search results; both provide easy access to play songs, view Wikipedia, and access their social media pages among other things. When searching for Tech products both search engines provide me with a link to the manufacturers web page first and foremost. Bing however provides additional results for shopping on the side while Google leaves a blank space. When searching for weather both show a nice forecast display, Google however provides more in depth results and will display information when i search for local weather. Bing on the other hand will come up empty unless I use Cortana. Either way Google provides more information. Sports seems to be the biggest hit or miss, Google seems to provide more info on Schedule but Bing seems better about previous game scores. Overall what is your opinion; has Bing improved to the point where it is a viable replacement to Google? Or is Google still the supreme overlord of Search on the internet? http://strawpoll.me/3478576
