Budget (including currency): €2000-€2500. Country: Belgium (Can also get stuff delivered from some Dutch sites or Amazon.de for example) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: All types of games, ranging from Cyberpunk to Apex to Path of Exile and whatever other good games will come out in the future Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have one 144Hz GSync monitor (Displayport) and one 60Hz secondary monitor (HDMI). Besides that, the regular peripherals: Headphones, Wireless Mouse, Keyboard, USB Mic, USB-C webcam. This'll be my very first build, my current PC (custom pre-built) is deteriorating and will have to be replaced sooner or later. I'd like to build a new computer with one of the new AMD Ryzen CPU's and either an RTX 3070 or 3080, including 32GB of RAM. Preferably using fans as apparantly setting up water cooling is quite obnoxious according to a friend of mine. Would love some input or a good PCPartPicker list I can go off of.

Hello, I'm looking for a good laptop mostly for gaming but shouldn't look to gamery (also for going to class), I would also like to have quite a lot of storage since sometimes school files can take up a lot of space and it's easier to have access to them via the laptop would prefer 1TB+ (this can be ignored if the laptop is otherwise very good). As an added downside I live in Belgium which means I'm used to an AZERTY keyboard and that deals from America are to expensive to ship over. If anybody has any good recommendations I would greatly appreciate it, thanks in advance. Budget is max 1600 euro

Hi, I'm tired of playing games with 20 fps on my old laptop so i've decided i need a gaming rig. The goal of this build is to play newer (and older) games at high graphics settings at 60fps 1080p on a ultrawide monitor. My budget is around 1000 Euro, but can scale up if advised to buy a better, longer lasting part. I plan on upgrading the computer when i need and am able to afford to do so. My location is: Belgium, Ghent. Delivery is preferred, as i do not have a car. I can pick up things with my bicycle if necessary. Disclaimer: I do not need any peripherals or OS, including monitor, i will buy those after i've acquired and build the computer itself.

Hi I’m looking for an gaming keyboard. saddly there are only 2 brands with Belgain AZERTY lay-out. Corsair, Hyper X, Steelseries and Logitech... _______________________________________________________ Is it possible with a macro to change the W to Z. And than change the cap to the position I used to. So I can leave 4$ in place the buttons above and other keys. I only need to change key lay-out from BE to UK/US maybe something else. I dont want to go to FR AZERTY lay-out with the french words.

Note: I am not sure whether if this is like news worthy on this forum but I think this could be interesting topic to talk about regardless and since this is actually about tech, it should normally fit in. If not, feel free to remove the thread or lock it. Summary of articles: Earlier this month, the Belgian government warned the people about possible power outages due to the lack of nuclear power plants active. Those that are offline are under maintenance. Only one shall be active in the winter period as well as a gas-fired power station just outside of Brussels. They also noted that international electricity supplies from neighboring countries are not sufficient enough for the country. The people won’t be feeling anything about the supply gap until November. The prices about electrical delivery has jumped up as high as 411 euros (roughly $484) a megawatt-hour, compared to the average of 60.19 euros ($69,95) over the past year. Belgian authorities are hoping for a non-chilly winter in Europe. Once it gets colder, the demand for heating obviously rises and limits the available power export to Belgium, since neighboring countries prioritize serving their own residents first. Belgium is also planning on phasing out their nuclear power plants by 2025. The plants who have started their operation between 1975 and 1985, are having safety issues over the past recent years. Without the proper plans and plants to replace the capacity, Belgium could be heading towards a supply crunch. The closures of these plants (including a few old gas-based facilities), will lead to a power generation shortfall of 3.6 gigawatts, according to GlobalData (London-based analysis and data provider). There are some solutions that could add some to the capacity like renewable energy, but the density of the country itself limits that possibility. As a note, Belgium isn't the country struggling to keep their old reactors safe. (Elia = Belgium’s Electricity Transmission System Operator) Quote from VRT article: Personal opinion: I don’t buy it. The last 3 years (I assume), the government has been saying about these possible power outages, but it never came to it (as far I am aware of). The timing about these maintenance routines seem to be a little bit of out place, then again these things should happen. But, these power plants seem to be having failures multiple times throughout the past few years as mentioned in the summary. If the government is indeed right this time, I would be slightly surprised and ashamed. Also, as mentioned above, Belgium is planning on phasing out nuclear power plants. I honestly wonder about the supplies then. Sources: 1. Everyone saw this coming from a mile away, but what truly baffles me is that EA is going to try and pass loot boxes as anything but gambling because its rewards don't hold "real world value". I understand why they are fighting the Belgian Government, but can not see their denial to blatant gambling coming across as a win in any court with these laws. The Belgian privacy commission sued Facebook for violating Belgian privacy laws. Facebook follows people on its own platform, but also on 3rd party sites via social plug-ins, cookies and "pixels" which are used to track users' behavior on those other sites. They also use them to track people who don't have a Facebook account. Seeing as those people never consented to the tracking, that is a big issue. Today the Brussels "Court of First Instance" completely agreed with the privacy commission and condemned Facebook. Facebook has been ordered to stop the tracking and delete all illegally obtained data or pay a fine of €250 000 per day up to a € 100 million (125M USD) total. Facebook has already declared that they are disappointed and will fight the verdict. Loosely translated from the Dutch article: Source (in Dutch, pretty sure there will be English sources soon) : https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2018/02/16/brusselse-rechtbank-veroordeelt-facebook-wegens-schending-privac/ EDIT : Source 2 : Reuters : https://www.reuters.com/article/us-facebook-belgium/facebook-loses-belgian-privacy-case-faces-fine-of-up-to-125-million-idUSKCN1G01LG Source 3 : CNBC : https://www.cnbc.com/2018/02/16/reuters-america-facebook-loses-belgian-privacy-case-faces-fine-up-to-125-mln.html As someone who doesn't want to have anything to do with the kind of tracking that Facebook does, I can only applaud this. Let's hope other countries can do the same. Facebook's response sounds like PR nonsense. People who don't have a Facebook account still get tracked without getting any tools or choices, assuming those tools actually stop the tracking and not just make Facebook hide the tracking from the users to begin with. This isn't the first time. Facebook has been reprimanded in Belgian courts in the past for tracking people who are on their site without being logged in to a FB account or without having one. Facebook responded to that case by blocking all Facebook pages for people in Belgium who aren't logged in. Curious how they'll solve this one.

so.. with my old server really starting to fall apart, and a lot of free time coming up i've decided to fix my damn floor, and seeing i have to tear down everything in my room anyways i've decided it's the perfect moment to finally put my old server to rest as well. ------------- The location is offcourse belgium, and by preference i'd order my parts from alternate.be because they're semi-local, i have good experiences with their custommer support, and their prices are acceptable for me. comes to the budget, most of the gear has been decided, with a total budget of roughly €1500, and about €700-ish left for the components as of yet undecided, which mostly means the hard drives and some miscelaneous bits. the aim of this device... is complex. it'll be my NAS, HTPC, home server for varying workloads, it'll be running a few desktop applications, and will be running a few VMs as well. i just want to stress this: there will be no overclocking, end of discution on this idea. i want this device to last as long as some of my older servers did before passing away in fire. since HTPC is on this list, it'll involve monitors, a HDMI port is a must, probably a second device over HDMI/DVI will be a thing, for more/different things, chances are the box will be getting a low power GPU in the future. basicly i want the mobo to be able to push two displays over HDMI, if there's more there'll be upgrades. peripherals arent necessary, the peripheral situation is (aside from monthly baking my logitech performance MX) the only thing about my current box that's happy. since it'll be running linux (several reasons for this) that doesnt need to be accounted for in the price either and to keep to the standard layout, i'll add a reason why i'm upgrading, just because it's funny: the current box i'm doing all of this with is an acer prebuilt that has extra sata power cables soldered into the motherboard, and basicly every moving part in there is broken or breaking. ------------- brings us to the build, and the advice i need. - i7 6700 (i chose this specific chip because high single core performance, combined with 4c/ht) - MSI H170A PC MATE, or MSI B150 PC MATE, depending on if i'll need mobo raid or not for my storage (the B150 doesnt list raid..) - a singular corsair 16GB DDR4 memory stick, because i liked their DDR3 ram, and i honestly just want to know what they did with their DDR4. (16GB stick because i dont want to toss sticks, and plan to go all the way to 64GB over time) - noctua NH-D9L once again mostly for curiousity, and for silence since this box will be in a place it can be heard. - i've more or less decided on a mushkin triactor 240GB SSD as a boot drive, and a second one for applications in the future. (i've got the upgrade process into a second SSD figured out, no worries on that field) - seasonic PRIME 650W titanium power supply, for a few reasons: efficiency (less power usage & heat, to me it matters, end of discution), i wanna try out a seasonic psu, and because (social experiemnt, if you read this, mention "spinning rust" in your reply) it has some specific features i want to have related to power loss. comes to what i need: i have NO idea what to do for storage, but i have a few requirements: - redundant storage, surprise me in what way, but it needs to be redundant - at all cases, i want a singular drive to contain ALL data, either as part of a raid1 or similar, or as a semi-cold nightly backup. (backup scripts can be arranged, no worries there) - it needs to be as quiet as possible, i understand hard drives cannot be 100% silent, but i would prefer it to not be a vibrating mess. - i need some terms of performance, currently a single 7200RPM drive suffices, but i'm looking towards going up in performance preferably - comes to the final reason of upgrading: i have a 1.2TB backup drive, that thing is full, i'm looking at 2-4TB worth of storage. - the hard drives, eventual raid or HBA cards, and/or brackets, and the case (if no better options arise, probably a define R5) need to fit in my €700 left in the budget (lower is offcourse better, i'm a cheapskate ) case recommendations are offcourse welcome, i'll quickly outline the requirements: - quietness is a factor, it lives on an antivibration pad in a corner surrounded by dense wood desk, but shoddy drive bays that rattle are probably a no. - i do not need a fancy, i need a function - i *hate* rackmount cases... they're unwieldly, loud, impractical, and dont fit in the little corner (should add, it's roughly 1 meter by 1 meter by 1 meter, and it'll share it's "room" with two UPSes) - i want a case to "grow" into, more drive bays are better, i'd prefer to have at least two external 5.25" bays as well. it'll probably end up being built in between 2 to 4 weeks from now, depending how the rest of the construction works go.

so, slightly quick thread here.. because i have some stuff i need to get rid of. because PostNL is some kind of practical joke in my area i have two codes for pizza.be (hence belgium only) that get you €5 off on an order of €10 or more. thing is, pizza.be doesnt really have good offers in my area, so the codes have been kinda laying around my desk. SO.. if you want one of them (they run out at the end of the month) just go check if they have someone that serves in your area, and make sure you'll eat pizza before the end of the month drop a post in the thread if you want one, i honestly just want to get rid of the codes to somewhere more useful than the trash. PS: the reason i'm not using them for myself is -for those who dont know what pizza.be does- they work with the local delivery pizza places, so you can go to their website, punch in your address and find the places that deliver to you... of which only one in my area does not have the kind of reviews of people going "uh.. i never ended up getting my pizza" and the one that seems decent has some outrageous prices so i just make my own pizza for the clothes shoppers, i had a zalando code as well, but i already gave that to a family member. i'm starting to think opening packages from PostNL is like those chocolate eggs with a toy inside...

Hello everyone! I have been wondering about this for a long time. I'm currently 15 years old. I live in Antwerp, Belgium. And I'm in a high school called 'Steinerschool Antwerpen'. It's a special school. It focuses on giving balanced education, a balance between languages, science and physical activities. This year is my fourth year at the school. So only 2 to go after this, and I can go to college, or university. After high school I'd like to go do something in science, computer science, math, economy or maybe even politics. This school has really helped my to deploy my talents, and find my true interests. It's also a very small school (it's a non government owned school), and everyone kinda knows everyone. I like the atmosphere, I like the people around me (they're not stupid "YEAH, I'M SO COOL, AND YOU'RE A NERD!!!!!" people). But if I really want to do something in science later, this school really isn't my best option. The school also suffers from a small budget (everything, accept teachers wages are financed by the parents). Teachers have no dicipline. Teachers regularly just don't come to class. And because of the shitty teachers, and shitty coordination, the school is behind in a lot of classes. And honestly, I don't feel comfortable letting my parents pay 6 times as much for a private school that doesn't do its job, while I could also just go to a public school, learn the stuff I should learn, and let my parents pay 20€ a month instead of 120€. The problem is the following: The school I'm in now, has really great people. I'm not just talking about friends, but just the culture in general. Everyone accepts everyone. And the school is really different from public schools, in that teachers are much closer to the students (obviously the students can decide how close). It's a very personal school. But it just doesn't preform as it should. I'm a year behind in French class (French is obligatory in Belgium), and I guess I behind in Math as well. Simply because teachers don't come to class. The school I would be going to, would be a public school. It would be 10 times larger, and a VERY different culture. In my current school for example, there's literally no physical fighting. In the other school I'd be going to, fighting is 'fun', and 'playful', they seem to forget it also really hurts. I know about the other school, because my closest friends go to that school. The teaching is also very different. In some ways, it prepares you better for university. But in other ways, it really doesn't (like critical thinking is not present in that school). So, I'll have to choose between, getting the classes I should get, but in a new, strange, less personal, way. Or staying in my current school, and not getting the classes I should, but staying inside the great environment, and deploying my personality in a friendly environment, and learning to think independently. Also, I program in my free time. If I would change schools? I'd have much less time to program. Any help is welcome!

Hey guys, I'm going to build my pc soon and I'm having trouble finding online stores where I don't have to spend 50% of my budget on shipping. I live in Belgium and I wanted to know if anyone knew some online shops where the shipping is reasonable (or nonexistent).

Original article --> http://www.theverge.com/2015/11/9/9699302/facebook-belgium-cookie-tracking-security While I think it's mostly a good thing Facebook is finally somewhat punished for their wrongdoing, this will likely not be very effective. Overall Belgium is not that very large, and Facebook will always find another way to track their (non-)customers. I live in Belgium and don't really give a damn about Facebook tracking me or not. I also don't think the government is going to change anything about the whole matter of people being tracked anywhere. Let me know what you think about this

so, my grandparents' 7 year old laptop died, and they need a system for the occasional browsing, because otherwise their internet connection is kinda wasted. i quickly threw together a build, but would like some confirmation i didnt make any screw ups. http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/sDxsCJ the main goal of the build is that its for (very) light use, and will most likely be running customized linux (chromeOS style, to make things easier for the old folks) PS: i'm not getting them a chromebook because the computer wont be moved either way, and a desktop is easier to do maintenance on.

New pc build, advice and recommendations welcome
Nicoledes posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
To start off here's some information on why I'm looking for help here. The current pc the household was bought in a hurry a few years back by my mom. It's a hp oem (pavilion 500 or near enough). And even though it never was a very powerful, it could run what I wanted. But lately it's has begun slowing down immensely and it experienced a number of crashes and safe boot ups. So because the inevitable end is coming I wanted to be prepared when it happens and build a new one. And also to help prevent my mother from making the same mistake again. So here are my loose guidelines: - live in Belgium (ghent) - budget ranges from 400 to 900 euro, though more likely to be around 500 - aim: gaming (wow, lol, witcher 2/3, mostly AAA), general browsing and work, video (youtube, downloaded) - monitor: http://www.samsung.com/be/consumer/pc-peripherals-printer/monitor/monitors/LS24C350HS/EN- or close enough, not immediately planning an upgrade - needs new windows/office - looks are not that important, but I do like simple, smooth cases - gpu or cpu brand don't matter, whatever floats my boat I'm also going to do my own research, but that will probably have to wait until after my resits. Thank you in advance. -
--note: i dont post this to milk the community for build options, but because i honestly have no idea what to buy for this purpose-- so, during the last few days i've been messing with the possibilities of minecraft servers, and i've come to a realisation: i currently have two servers: an i3 540 (4GB ram) and an i7 4770 (10GB ram) and i've never really used more than one core on either one of them. i've come to think it may be time to replace the i3 with something thats more meant for single core performance. as for budget, i'm looking at the €500 -ish range, hoping to get the following specs: (if you can do better, feel free to do so) - 8GB ram (dont bother with ECC, i dont need it for what i'm doing) - AT LEAST 80+ bronze power supply, with some headroom for extra hard drives. - single core performance comparable to that of an i7 4770 or better. (thats why i'm doing this) - preferably as silent as possible (the stock cooler on the i3 is as loud as i'd allow) - more than one cpu core (i highly doubt theres anything lower than dual-core these days anyways) - gigabit LAN (heh, like any motherboard still has 100Mbit) PS: i'd like to clarify, i'm NOT asking for a single core to be as fast as an entire 4770, i'm asking for a single core to be as fast as a single core of a 4770. also, overclocking *is* an option, although i'm not comfortable with it, as i have never done it. i'd appreciate PCpartpicker lists from german pcpartpicker, but realise that belgium is a tad more expensive, and all parts need to come from http://www.alternate.be/html/index.html i'd GREATLY appreciate if you'd check availability, but dont feel obliged to do so tho.

Hey, I am a student and only have this old netbook, I want to build a gaming system. So read the things below before recommending and explain why you chose those parts. Budget & Location: My budget is $1000 and I live in Belgium, store doesn't really mater I can find them here. Aim: Mostly gaming (Minecraft, LoL, Bioshock infinite, Borderlands 2, Watch Dogs,...), and then webbrowsing and SolidWorks (if it can stream games on twitch that would be nice too). Peripherals: I need everything: mouse, keyboard and monitor. The mouse and keyboard don't need to be specially made for gaming. The monitor I would want is a 24" IPS panel. I have windows so that's OK. And SSD? should I go with a 120GB SSD or spend the money elsewhere? Thanks in advance. Arikuzo

Hello LinusTechTips 1. Budget & Location 2. Aim Mixing the best of two worlds, a workstation that’s capable of playing the latest games without lag and frustrations. But the most important part it must and will be silent optimized. There will be no video editing. 3. Monitors IIyama Prolite E2407HDS running 1920x1080 (Main monitor) IIyama Prolite B2008HDS running 1600x900 (Secondary monitor) These will get an upgrade next year. 4. Peripherals Logitech G110 Logitech G5 (Old but does the job, just love this mouse) 5. Why are you upgrading? My previous build is from Feb 2009, it’s in desperate need of an upgrade. Failing front usb ports, scratched case, just old parts in general that make my most important tool slow and unreliable. 6. Part List Case Fractal design: Define R4 Note: Silence optimized, has 2 “hydraulic bearing 140mm Silent Series R2 fan” included and great looks. Motherboard ASUS Sabertooth Z87 Note: Dust resistance, 5 years warranty, great performance, … CPU Intel i5 4670K (LGA 1150) Note: Latest generation CPU with the possibility to overclock (will be overclocked!) and should keep performing for a few years (4y at least) CPU Cooler Corsair Hydro Series H90 140mm HPL CPU Cooler Note: Why H90 and not the H100? The case supports 240/280mm radiators but for this you need to remove the noise reducing foam. Will move the included 140mm fan from rear to front to mount the H90. RAM 16gig Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHZ kit CL9 Note: low profile ones to be sure. GPU Note: Better fans & overclocking, looks are OK too! Still not sure about this one, is pretty high end for mid to casual gaming… HDD Note: One of the best SSD’s, 128GB is not enough for all software/games… Don’t like SSD caching… PSU Corsair RM 750 Note: Silence optimized Fan's Silent Series R2 140mm Or be quiet! Shadow Wings sw1 140mm Mid-Speed Since I can’t seem to find a local store to buy the Silent series… Note: 2 extra 140mm fans for noise reduction. (Bottom & Rear – not going to use the stock H90 fan…) Well that’s it, since I don’t make a build every month or even year there is a possibility I’ve used some incompatible material(s) that’s why I’ve posted my build here. Looking forward to see what you guys think of it and please if you would use other(beter) parts enlighten me with your knowledge . Sincerely FunkStar EDIT 17/12/13: BUMP post #21

Belgium has prohibited to sell cellphone to Children under the age of 8. They also banned cellphone commercials targeted to children under 13 years. The radiation of a cellphone would be bad for children. I think not selling phones is a bit extreme. I'd ban smartphones for children but not all phones. Also I do not reply believe that the radiation is too much. Must parents then also turn of there wifi? On the other hand, How are they going to check for who's the cellphone? Daddy would probably buy it anyway I think. This is the original article but it is in Dutch: http://www.nu.nl/tech/3564852/belgie-verbiedt-verkoop-mobieltjes-kinderen.html

Telenet, Belgians biggest ISP announced at a press conference that it will invest 500 million over the course of 5 years to update its current infrastructure. They will also create 250new high-tech jobs in the process, the CEO of Telenet stated that the arrival of netflix and 4K were one of thte reasons that they needed to update the infrastructure. The couldn't give any details on the prize just yet. If they pull this of, we will have one of the best networks in Europe. the speeds go from minimum 160megabit to 1gigabit/sec. Great job Telenet! An ISP that realizes that infrastructure is freaking important to keep up with technology. Hello, I am looking around on the net and I try to compare my build till I have the cheapest price including the shipping and I haven't really found a good website that has cheap prices, sents all the parts you want without forcing you to assemble it by them, and doesn't have an overpriced shipping cost. Or that even has your parts in stock and doesn't let you wait months. If anyone knows a store that's good for belgium customers then please post it below I will surely internet-hug you :) Thanks in advance, Pruxis
