Hi there, basically my question is, if I get a Barebone keyboard that's in ISO layout, do I get ISO-DE layout with the correct keycaps and language setting in Windows or is that basic ISO with just the large enter? Kind of a dumb question but anyways...

I'm looking for a super cheap computer or bare bones. From what I can tell the best option is something like an old Dell Optiplex or an HP 8200. Basically anything that was sold in massive numbers to enterprises or schools. The newer the better, but I seriously just wan't a cheap PC to tinker with/turn into a pet project. Where would I find something like this?

So I would like to get a gaming pc and I have two options. Build my own or get a barebones from this link. *ebay link removed* What is the better option?

So I'm looking into getting a super compact barebones PC, something like the Gigabyte Brix, but I was wondering if there are any options that have no processor included and essentially just have the small case, motherboard, and IO. I have an extra i5-6600k and a SSD with OS already on it just sitting around (I won't be overclocking it in this use case) and have the use for it but I would love to have it an ultra small form factor enclosure. Everything out there seems to have a CPU already in the system. Are there any barebones systems out there that you guys know of that don't come with a CPU? All current ITX cases are way bigger than I want in this scenario as I do not need a GPU and I want the power supply to be an external power brick. I also already have 2 ITX system that I'm happy with. Thanks for the help!

Not 100% sure where I should be posting this but considering my use case this seemed to be the best place. Right now I have a low end Toshiba Satellite B-55 laptop hooked up to my TV via HDMI with a external hard drive for storage. When I built this thing I had no budget and the bulk of my content was 480p or the odd 720p movie, any thing beyond that and I get horrible stuttering. My content has mostly moved on to 1080p so I want to look for a new rig and while I know if I dump $800+ I can guarantee smooth playback but considering that this computer will only ever sit by the tv unless I need it for maintenance or emergencies I want to know if anyone has a suggestion for something cheaper that can still run 1080p. The main reason I am using a laptop and not a mini pc is because I want to be able to work on the system without hogging the TV from the rest of the family and have a last ditch back up computer for work.

I might be building my friend a pc and all he wants to do on it is play bf1 at like 1080p maybe even 720p on low settings, the lest of money i found to build one was like $300 with a g4560 and a 1050 but can anyone else find a cheaper option? It would be way better if he had a laptop that could play bf1 so if anyone could find the cheapest laptop option too that would be great, the cheapest i found was like $500 or so

Im just wondering how cool would it be to have a barebones laptop like its a normal barebones system (cpu and or GPU included) but everything else like SSD ram etc is user populated. ofc there are ones like the Dell Inspiron but like its already populated. what if companies sold their systems where the user needed to populate the ram and storage? idk I find it interesting =P just want to gather thoughts on this subject

I'm planning on getting a barebones mini-pc by Asus called the Asus PN40 Desktop Computer - Intel Celeron N4000 1.1GHz DDR4 SDRAM - Windows 10 Pro - Mini PC - Black. On the actual Asus site, it say that this can be bumped up from its normal, but awful 2gbs of ram to 8gbs of ram. The mini-pc can take a 2.5in ssd up to 500gb and and m.2 ssd up to 256gb. The size of the pc is 115 x 115 x 49 cm (WxDxH). The ssd I want to use is a 250gb samsung evo ssd and the memory is a 8gb ram stick by Veteke. If anyone has recommendations for a possible better ssd, m.2 ssd and memory stick let me know. It contains DDR4 at 2400MHZ and has 2x SO-Dimm for memory. If anyone has recommendations for a possible better rig overall, please let me know.

Looking for a Supermicro barebones for a NAS running FreeNAS. I'd like at least 4 drive bays and I'd like everything but the CPU and RAM included, as well as a PCIe slot for a x8 10G NIC, but otherwise I'd just like whatever one is the best value. The X8SIL-F looks decent, but I think I can get a better deal than the one I was looking at ($120 including shipping). An eBay link to a listing would be greatly appreciated. And shipping needs to be included in the price because those servers are heavy and shipping is expensive (zip is 60658 in the US if you'd like to calculate). Thanks in advance for any help.

I'll am putting together a server build and I am most likely going to use this bare-bones system from Supermicro http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101794 My question is about processor compatibility. I would like to run a Xeon E3-1200 series processor, namely this one because of the hyper-threading. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=19-117-316 The question arise when I start looking at the graphics option. Newegg and Intel do not list any on board graphics for the E3-1231V3. Will this work in the Supermicro barebones system or do I need to get a cpu with onboard graphics, like the E3-1226. If I wanted to use the E3-1231 would I need to run an external GPU? Are there cheep options? Can I use the GT-640 that I have lying around? Thanks

Hey everybody. I've been building pcs for a while now, and want to try something new, and i feel that building a laptop sound like a nice project just different enough to be interesting. The only problem is that i dont really know much about building a laptop. i need some advice on what barebones notebooks are good, maybe some pricing schemes, anything that any of you think may be helpful. i have 800-900 dollars to do the build.

Intel NUC problems when ever I try to boot I always get a black screen. I'm booting to Debian. I know that the drives being used work, I'm currently using one of them right now actually, so I'm really confused as to the meaning of the black screen. The ram is detected, fan is working fine, the only detectable problem is the drives being used, somehow.

Hey, guys so I have been using an HP Stream 7 for about three solid weeks now and its surprising powerful and snappy. For a 32 bit system this caught me off guard but makes sense if it only has 1gb of ram. Sure it wasn't meant to replace a full PC or laptop but I have has some great usage with quick searching, steam, videos etc. Whats your opinion on this device? Love to hear some feedback.

Hiya, I've been saving over the course of this year to get myself a nice gaming laptop, I'd much rather have a desktop but as a seafarer there isn't much of a choice :-\. I've looked over a lot of laptops but I really cant bring myself to pay the "brand-tax" and would much rather build my own laptop. the only high end barebones laptops I know of are from clevo. So a lot of google searches down the road I was still unable to find any compant that sells clevo barebone laptops in europe, I'm only finding pre-built systems. In America I did find one however but because of import taxes I'm not so sure this would be a good idea. Are there any europeans out there that know of any barebone resellers? (please dont link the clevo buyers guide, because that only lists resellers and I'd like to put my own system together except for the mobo/cpu/gpu). Is it possible to import straight from Taiwan? Thanks in advance! z0ne

So I have been searching the internet for a few days now for an 18in gaming laptop with a reasonable price. (my range is around $1000.) At about this time most of you are probably saying "get bent, your crazy".... My question is, could I buy all of the parts separate and build my own alienware in that price range ? REASON I chose alienware, is because I know they have great upgradability and freedom. Do you guys have any suggestions on what I should do? Do all laptops in a certain category have the same fittings and freedom to where I could pick and choose my own internals? Im new here so please direct me to the proper place to post this.

I'll cut to the chase. I'm building a barebone for my parents' use, only requirements are: it browses, boots and plays the occasional media smoothly! I'm on a budget let's say around 300 EUR/375USD/421CAD. The OS I have. Can't imagine anyone consciously wanting to put their 50+ parents through the hell that is Windows 8 (another reason why I convinced them not to go with a prefab rig) So I did my research on what RAM and SSD to get, so don't need advice there. Currently I'm thinking on 3 particular barebones, all three of which are 120 EUR/150USD/168CAD more or less. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856164017&cm_re=Gigabyte_Brix_GB-BXBT-2807_%2f_Intel_Celeron_N2807-_-56-164-017-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856173073&cm_re=ZOTAC_ZBOX_ID18-_-56-173-073-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856102062&cm_re=DN2820FYK-_-56-102-062-_-Product So I'm directing myself to all of you out there, who have had any expieriences with any of these 3 models, to share the pros and cons. Or if you have any general thought of which one could be better based on: connectivity, processor performance, heat output, build quality etc.. It would help me out a great deal, 'cause atm they all look like valid options to me. Thank you

Hey people of Linustechtips.com I am new to the forum and English is not my first language so please forgive me for any grammar or spelling mistakes I might make. I have a question for all of you techpeeps that are willing to help me. I recently switched from console gaming to PC gaming. My xbox 360 died while we were moving and thanks to the insurance I got about 700 bucks back. I don't really know what happened but my uncle is a lawyer and he said he would take care of it. With that money I purchased a MSI GP602PE leopard since I travel a lot between college and my home-town. I have falling in love with pc gaming but the laptop is not the ideal solution at home for me because I have a big beautiful 27 inch AOC monitor that I rarely use with it because I would need to hook up an external keyboard, while I love the keyboard my laptop has. But I am talking too much and I will skip to the question. I am looking into getting a "small" desktop for media consumption and gaming at home. My budget is around 650 to 700 euros. My eye has fallen on the zotac Zbox EN760, it has an i5, 560 m and requires you to install the ram memory, a hard drive and an os yourself. Now I would like to know if this is a good option for me and what sort of RAM and harddrive or ssd I should install. Many thanks for reading this and I hope to hear from you. Mike
