TLDR: What is the best way to determine whether my system instability is because of bad RAM, bad CPU, or something else? Especially when memtest86+ showed no error after an overnight test, but Prime95 did. Hi, my PC specs are: CPU: R5 3600X RAM: Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB (8GB x 2) HX432C16PB3AK2/16 (which is compatible with my motherboard) GPU: GTX 1660 Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC Cooling: Deepcool GAMMAXX L240 V1 (pretty sure it's a V1) PSU: Corsair RM750 (CP-9020195-NA, almost 2 years old) / Cooler Master MWE 750 Gold (dead) OS: Arch Linux (what I used before) / Endeavour OS (reinstalled to this) / Windows 11 (for testing) Location: Vietnam (might be important) Recently, I have been facing crashes on my PC, from games to OS. A common pattern is that games would crash with a Segmentation Fault (SIGSEGV) error. Linux would sometimes hard crash without any log being written. When it did log something, however, various error messages indicated memory error (hence maybe not GPU). The problem is I have run two memtest86+ (latest version) overnight with about 10+ passes each. All of which report no error. However, mprime, the Linux version of Prime95, did report errors at random intervals. However, errors appear more consistently on the smallest test about 15 - 30 minutes in. I also installed Windows 11 to test a game (Oxygen Not Included) and Windows just crashed and rebooted 30 minutes into the game, not even a BSOD was shown. I have tried various settings in BIOS: disable PSO, change XMP profile, disable XMP, undervolt and overvolt (using offset); update BIOS to the latest version ( 7B85v1H1), and downgrade to older versions, still crashed. I also tried to switch the RAM sticks around, and test with only one of them installed, still crashed. There are various reasons why I am uncertain about which component is the issue: My R5 3600X is pretty much the first batch (or pretty close), I bought it at launch. And there are some reports I have read over the years stating those batches were not... the best. My CPU could only boost to 4.0 GHz on heavy load rather than the 4.1 GHz advertised, and eventually drop to 3.9 GHz. Typically idle at 40-50C, clock speed never goes above 4.3 GHz. (This could be because of insufficient cooling, but what can I do when I live in a tropical country without an air conditioner.) Prime95 smallest test puts strain on the CPU, yes? I got errors from stock settings meaning bad CPU? The seller only covers 3 years (36 months) warranty and I'm in my fourth year of owning it, so no warranty. I overclocked my RAM with Ryzen DRAM Calculator before. Eventually just used the Memory Try It feature from MSI because it is convenient. Maybe the RAM is bad because I have run it overclocked for a long period of time? Memtest86+ showed no error after two overnight tests. My previous PSU (Cooler Master MWE 750 Gold) had a short and it would prevent my PC from booting up. I replaced it with the Corsair RM750 which was fine for a while until now. Could the old shorted PSU cause some damages that only now causing problems? Is my motherboard still good? I don't have spare parts to do more tests :(. Money is limited so buying new parts is also limited. That's why I need to be certain.

I built a pc a while back, and now I think there is a problem with the RAM. I was playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint for a few hours when the performance started to get a little choppy. Suddenly I had 5-10 fps and the game warned me that I was running out of system memory. I checked, and the performance tab of task manager said that I only had 8gb installed instead of 16gb, and also running at stock 2133 speeds. I know I've had xmp turned on for a while. I did basic troubleshooting, where I tried to run the computer with just one stick of ram at a time, and it worked fine. Then I put both in the correct slots and tried booting. Nothing. I mean, the RGB in both sticks of RAM works fine, and all the fans spin up, and the RGB on my AIO cooler works, but no POST. Then I tried switching the places of the RAM and booting. No POST again. I'm wondering if the more likely problem is a stick of RAM, or the slot I'm using. Specs: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon Ryzen 5 2600X RX 580 8gb 2x 8gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz Adata SU655 960gb Bitfenix Formula Gold 650 Watt Windows 10 Home 64 bit I have all the latest drivers and bios installed too.

Dear people, I have bought this computer second hand and upgraded it a bit, here are the specs: Intel Core i7-4930k (not overclocked) ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P9X79 (LGA2011) 8x4 32GB Patriot Dual-Channel DDR3 1600MHz Ram Zotac 1080ti Amp! Extreme (upgraded from a zotac 980ti where the crashes also happened) Corsair GS800 PSU Windows 10 The computer crashes completely randomly, it can crash in-game, while using chrome, and just while being ideal and not used. There is not a specific pattern and I cannot get it to reproduce, it just crashes when ever it wants, not more or less frequently depending on the ask. Sometimes it crashes 4 times in an hour and sometimes it crashes once a day. There is no BSOD, my screen just suddenly freezes for a second, then sometimes there is a loading icon next to the mouse, sometimes the application i'm using will turn black, and then the entire screen would turn black. I would still be able to hear sound for a couple of seconds, then it cuts off. The lights and fans and everything would stay running. To get out of the screen I have to reboot the computer. I have tried running the full Memtest64, there was no errors at all throughout the full test. I have replaced the GPU from the old 980ti where to crashes used to happen to a new 1080ti where they still happen The crashes happen the first day I got the computer from the guy, just when windows was freshly installed, so I do not think it has to do with the software. I asked him if they occurred when he was using the PC, he said no, but then again I got this at a really good price and I was confused on why he'd go that low and he might be lying about this. The bootdrive is the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD I am not very good with computers so please excuse me if there is any missing information, I could follow up with more info if needed of course. Hello everyone Im just built a new rig... Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Gryphon z87 (BIOS version 1603, latest) Intel i7 4770 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance RAM (1600MHz XMP profile 1) EVGA GTX 780 SC Samsung 840 pro SSD (250GB) boot drive WD Green 4TB storage drive Corsair AX 750 (750W 80+ gold) BSODs started soon, 1 while installing windows and after everything was installed, it started happening more and more frequently. And it didnt seemed to be related with any application in special... At this point I ran some tests, BurnInTest showed a lot of errors on ram (all ram modules were installed), PerformanceTest was testing and passing everything just fine but when it started to test the memory it crashed. I had BSODs while other tests where running and wasnt able to get the results... I also removed 2 memory modules (the black ones) to test only the red ones, which passed, but when I tried to test just the black ones windows didnt boot. I have memtest86 but I dont have a clue what those errors mean or the results of burnintest or the dump files. Also, BSODs mostly where "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" but I got other codes aswell ("SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION"), and others I cant remember now. Its got to be the ram right? Will I have to return them? Can something be done? Am I diagnosing correctly or there might be some other issue leting me believe its a ram problem? Dump files and burnintest results attached (I ran burnintest just to show the errors, if I let ir run for a longer period BSOD will happen.) Thanks in advance!
