Issue: When I hit the power button, the fans spin briefly, and I hear a hiss-like beep (similar to the shutdown beep). The system then shuts down. [Specs listed at the bottom] Initially, I tried a manual Motherboard BIOS reset by removing the CMOS battery, but no luck. However, when I removed one RAM stick, it booted up. I swapped the RAM sticks to check if the issue was with the slots, and it worked. Then, suspecting a dual-channel memory problem, I tried booting with both RAM sticks, and it miraculously worked. The PC ran smoothly for a day or two, but the issue returned. I repeated the troubleshooting steps (CMOS BIOS reset and single RAM stick), and it worked again. This time, though, it did not post/boot up on the first try but on the second try when pushing the power button. Now, the PC won't turn on at all. I've exhausted my troubleshooting repertoire: Mobo BIOS reset by removing the CMOS battery for 5-10 minutes. Swapped both RAM sticks, even tried different ones. Used a different GPU. Used a different PSU. Reseated the processor. Booted it up without a RAM stick and still the same issue. (researching on the internet I think motherboards usually beep when there is no RAM installed) Current status: Same issue, fans spin for a second and it turns off. Is there any way to fix this? Hi, So I've been troubleshooting memory issues for over a month now (extremely enjoyable ) & I've finally decided to RMA either my CPU or motherboard & I'm making this post to hopefully get advice on which component is malfunctioning (probably the mobo, but who knows, could've just gotten extremely bad luck with the CPU...) Troubleshooting: SO I am running an i9-10850K along with a Aorus Elite AC Z490 motherboard. I have used multiple memory kits while troubleshooting this (thank god for amazon's return policies <3). And all the memory that I have been using has been on the "approved list of compatible memory" for the motherboard model. Memory kits that worked/didn't: I first had a kit of Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 2x16GB @3600Mhz CL18. This memory worked perfectly without any sort of issues whatsoever. Then I decided to finally go up to 64GB & purchased another kit of exactly the same memory, but this time I got sticks with Samsung chips (my old kit had Crucial chips). Only 3/4 16GB sticks would boot into Windows (any 3 sticks on any of the 3 DIMM slots). But with the 4 sticks I managed to boot in once (out of about 100 attempts at changing memory settings). Everything worked fine & I stress tested the memory as well, no errors whatsoever & the PC ran fine for a few days until I finally restarted it because of an update & I was never able to boot into Windows again with all the 4 sticks. I sold my old memory & returned the new one so I could purchase a whole kit of 4x16GB @2666 Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB memory. I was never able to boot into Windows with all 4 of the sticks & this time only 2/4 of the sticks would work reliably, where as 3/4 would only boot into Windows rarely. At this point I figured I had to have a bad mobo or CPU so I just returned the memory & got a kit of 2x32GB @3200 CL16 Crucial Balistix RGB. With this memory 1 stick works without any issues & I was only able to boot into Windows with both of the sticks about 3 out of 20 times & when I did manage to boot into Windows it worked 100% fine. Just to add, I did reinstall Windows many times during the troubleshooting, removed the CMOS battery, tried every single available BIOS version, tried just about every setting for the memory aside from manually adjusting every single timing... I'll also add that I could boot into Ubuntu just fine, I guess because Linux isn't as picky with memory, but I did try that only like 2 times. The memory was also always showing up in BIOS, it just didn't wanna boot to Windows (it got stuck at the spinning logo right before you're greeted with the Windows lock screen wallpaper & this was the same every single time, example image bellow) So first of all, thank you so much for taking the time to read this post, I really do appreciate it! And I would love some feedback on what you think I should do (I'm pretty much just deciding if I should return my CPU or motherboard at this point or possibly even try to return both); if you'd like any more info let me know! Hi all, I have an MSI a88xm Gaming motherboard from 2015 that i've owned since new. It's an AMD FM2+ socket that houses an Athlon x4 860k CPU. It has an evga 500w power supply. This setup has been through many cases and thrown around here and there and overclocked a ton. Put it all together after a year of sitting for a starter minecraft server. The Athlon x4 860k runs at 3.9-4.2ghz on start up and then immediately goes to 1.7ghz and stays there even under prime 95 benchmark load. The temps are perfectly fine! No where near thermal throttling temps! Troubleshooting I've done: Swapped CPU with known good one. Supposed to run at 3.9ghz max, runs at 1.3ghz all the time (off load & under load). Swapped PSU with known good one. No difference. Swapped RAM, no difference. Upgraded BIOS, reset BIOS, changed all BIOS settings, no difference. SLOW switch on motherboard is off. Windows 10 power mode is set to "High Performance, no difference. Tried Ubuntu in case windows was being windows again, no difference. NOW, I swapped motherboard with known good one, CPU runs at full speed!!! ^so this is why i suspect the mobo. Someone said bad VRMs? Greetings community, I have been experiencing a very perplexing problem. My computer doesn't actually "shut-down", it goes into a state of unresponsiveness at seemingly completely random times. The screen goes black, the graphics card lights go dim, the mouse and keyboard completely turn off and become unresponsive. (and the power button/restart button does nothing.) The only thing to get it out of this state is pulling the plug. We thought originally it was the power supply supply so we got a new power supply. that didn't work. so we thought it might be the c-mos battery, but no. We reset the bios to factory settings as well and that didn't help either. because we are using Asus, we thought it might be the Ai over-clocker. but that wasn't it. OK, well maybe it is the RAM! Unfortunately it is not. We did a memtest and results were fine. (see photos). I am at a loss, What should I do? My brother built a computer but it didnt start, so i tried the ram from another computer but nothing happened. After i put it back the previously working computer had the same issue. After pressing the power button the light on the motherboard switched on and than off. I'm really confused to what is going on! the new system: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G Asus MB PRIME A320M-K Crucial 8GB 2400 CL17

Hello, I need some advise my system is water cooled, a few months ago I had a leak which killed my GTX 590 I didn't really care cause I was upgrading to GTX 970sli. So I replaced the graphics card when I went to power on the system nothing happened so I took it back a part that's when I noticed water under the CPU socket I cried 64GB memory, 4960x on a Asus P9X79 Deluxe. I let it dry out for a few days before putting it back together It worked fine at normal clocks, I tested it with prime95 and fury mark ran it for a couple of hours no problem at all, but as soon as i try to over clock the CPU only by just a 100mhz my system locks up if it will boot, I tried adding more volts to the CPU, I dont want to make things worst, I know its not the memory so how can I tell if its the board or CPU I don't have an extra board or CPU laying around. thanks

First of all a huge thank you to anyone that posts and tries to help, I greatly appreciate it. About 3 months ago I put together my first PC build. During the initial setup I encountered some problems as far as the graphics card giving me no signal and fans turning on and back off again repeatedly. With a few tweaks I got the system up and running perfectly. Flash forward 3 months and after a successful day of gaming and working with my computer I wake up one morning to it surprisingly on, but not functioning. I shut the system down and tried to re-boot, but was getting no signal. After digging a bit deeper I realized that my graphics card was having the same problems as when I first put the system together. The fans would start and stop repeatedly. I went through all of the necessary steps. Changed ram, changed the slot my card was in, reset the CMOS, and I even gave the whole system a nice cleaning, but still nothing. I figured the power supply might not be giving enough juice, a 500w 80 plus certified power supply from EVGA, so I upgraded and got a 750W power supply 80+ bronze certified from Corsair, but still nothing. Thought maybe my GPU was the problem, a r7 370 dual-x from Sapphire, and replaced it with a GTX 960 FTW from EVGA. Tested both cards with both power supplies and no progress at all. At this point I am at a stand still and come to you guys for a answer or at least to point me in the right direction. Any and all suggestions are helpful. I did test my monitor and it is working no problem. Also all drivers are up to date and I am running Windows 10 64bit. I will say that it wasn't until downloading windows 10 that I started to run into some problems. Hello everyone. This morning my system was working beautifully, and when Windows 8.1 Pro restarted to install some updates all hell broke loose. Upon reboot, my computer just hangs with everything running and no video displayed. I have disassembled the entire computer down to the motherboard, one stick of ram, CPU and cooler, and power supply. I have also tried using both my GPU and the onboard graphics to determine whether or not I could get video output, but neither give me anything. The system isnt shutting off and coming back on. It is just sitting on my Mobo box runnig with no video. I have tried a few different sticks of ram, and the M.2 SSD that has the windows installation is not connected just to ensure the problem has not been caused by windows seeing as how it started durring a reboot. Any suggestions? I am thinking it may be the PSU or the CPU.

Hello, I have been having some issues with my computer lately and I am not sure what is causing it. The first thing was that it completely shut off without any notice then it would not turn back on. There was a green light on the motherboard indicating it had power but it would not turn on when I pressed the power button on my case. I had to turn off the power supply with its switch on the back then turn it back on to get my PC to power back on. Second issue, I noticed while gaming my frequency of my GPU was only at about 530mhz, 20% power, and only 41 degrees Celsius. It normally runs at 1241mhz, 55% power. I can't remember the temps its runs around but I know its quite a bit higher than 40 for the particular game I was playing. I decided to turn off my computer then turn it back on to see if it resolved the problem but when I went to hit the power button to turn it back on, it was the same issue. It would not start until I turned the power supply power switch off and on. Once I turned it back on, I logged in then shut down again. This time it powered back up when I hit the power button. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn't. The computer is running right now with no problems. I disconnected everything from the power supply and did the paper clip test and it turned on just fine and the fan spun. I just recently moved this system into a new case because I'm slowly building a new PC. I did not add any hardware except switching to the built in case fan instead of the old case fan I was using on the last case. I mention moving the system because I'm afraid their may have been some ESD to the board during the swap. Also, I don't think it is a faulty case power switch because a flick of the power supply switch would allow it to turn back on. Is there any chance this is could be CPU problem instead? Sorry if this is too long for the initial post. I'd appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. Side Note: I know there is bottlenecks in my system, its a work in progress and started with a prebuilt HP computer.
