Hey guys, I am building a cheap old server for a project, and I can't seem to get the right CPU coolers. The motherboard is a Dual Xeon e5-26xxx compatible Asus Z9PA-D8: https://www.nix.ru/autocatalog/motherboards_asustek/161373_2245_draft.jpg. This board has standard LGA-2011 sockets. I've tried several LGA-2011 coolers, for example: https://gelidsolutions.com/product/rev-5-tranq, but it seems that all of them require you to install their own backplate. The CPU backplates on this motherboard are not removable. I feel retarded. The main issue is that the screws that come with the coolers are too thin and/or too long, even though the retention mechanism does line up with the holes correctly. My memory is playing tricks on me. Is this because it's a server board? For example, the screws on this cooler look correct by the shape and relative size: https://www.ebay.com/itm/284658618446, and it specifically says it doesn't come with a backplate because your motherboard should already come with one. Other server coolers look correct too: https://www.ebay.com/itm/314677372718. So what's the deal here? Are there two variants of coolers and motherboards for the LGA-2011 socket? Ones that require their own backplate, and ones that don't? I mean if that's the case, that just seems ridiculous. I don't feel like paying $80 bucks for a Nactua, but regardless, how would I know if an LGA-2011 cooler is actually compatible? Is there a specific cooler I need to look for? I don't mean a brand, I mean like a standard which is more than LGA-2011?

I have a Ryzen 3 1200 in an Asus PRIME B350M-E. Planning to upgrade to Ryzen 5 5500. Is this a good upgrade? Are there better options for the price, excluding Intel? I have one 1080p monitor, play on lowest settings (Rust, ArmA 3, FIFA22 among others) and use creative/productive software (FL Studio, Paint.net) Also, I've noticed some mentions of the backplate. I'm not entirely into hardware, so forgive me: Is it possible to swap the CPU (both using their stock coolers) inside the tower? Will the backplate fall off when detaching the cooler? If so, how do I prevent that? Would also like some general tips about how to do the swap. I tend to not touch (or even look) inside my PC, so I'm quite paranoid I'll mess something up. Would be glad to give more info if needed. Thanks a lot! Case: Sharkoon SKILLER SGC1 Window Red RAM: G.Skill Aegis 1x16GB DDR4 GPU: GIGABYTE WINDFORCE GTX 970 4GB

Hi, are the backplate screws on gpu coolers (in particular Alphacool Eisblock Aurora Acryl GPX-N RTX 3070 TUF/DUAL with backplate) necessary for mounting pressure or something similar important for the cooler to work, or can i only srew in maybe half of them? Im asking because i want to put my custom cooled card on the wall and my idea was to use backplate mounting holes the other way and put the card on the wall with screws. Or do you have better ideas to hang the card on the wall? (the end result is supposed to look something like this: ) Im not sure if my english was good enough to understand the question, if there is any confusion please ask and thank you for the help.

I was looking at my card and was wondering: Why is there a hole on the backplate? And why do certain cards have it while others dont?

As the title says, the backplate for my CPU cooler (NH-D15S) is real hot. I don't have a thermometer, but I'd say about 45-50C. Anyone got a clue why it could be so hot? My CPU is overclocked (6700K), but it draws less than 100 W according to Intel Power meter. I have a R9 290X, that is hotter than a volcano, but I can't see how that would make the backplate hot. Tips appreciated!

So I've been trying to figure out a better cooling solution to my Ryzen 3 3100, it runs under 75⁰C under the stock cooler, but I'd like to replace the stock cooler with something different. Particularly I am confused by the whole backplate thing, if I buy another AM4 cooler, can I use the AM4 stock wraith stealth backplate? Or am I supposed to peel it off? (Pretty sure mine has adhesive and it's stuck to the back of my mobo) I have no idea. Forgive me for my ignorance, this is my 3rd CPU Ive had under a stock cooler so I just have no clue how this stuff works other than you gotta match the socket of course.

Hello my fellow Nerds and PC enthusiasts I recently got myself a ASUS TUF 3070 OC and I am really enjoying the card. I am surprised how well the temps are and how well it OCed. I noticed the backplate is made of metal, but it doesnt make any real contact with the card. I was thinking of maybe adding some pads on the area where the memory is mounted next to the die. Also where Power delivery is installed. I know it wouldnt change my temps by 43296423 degrees, but I thought it might help with temps in general and hence its potential longevity. Do you think I should try open it up and try measure the distance between the backplate and PCB and get some pads? Or just a stupid unnecessary adventure? Stay safe everyone! Just for fun, have a pic of my PC :3

Hey so I have gone from a air cooler tower to a mono lock from ekwb, when I had the the air tower the backplate was sitting flush with the bottom of the mobo, but now using the mono lock I’ve noticed there is a huge gap in the back. Is this normal for this monoblock to do that? I have included pictures to show what I’m talking about.

Hey guys, I've got a used EVGA 980Ti FTW for a really good deal last year and it's been running ok but I did notice that the backplate is very bent (I assume due to sag over time). Obviously I'm stuck with it now, especially since I'm a budget gamer so even paying MSRP for a new card isn't an option unless I save up. I know that if it gets too bad the cooler can separate and the GPU won't run well. I think I should fix the sag but currently I don't see super high temps on benchmarks or games. I have noticed that it won't sustain basically any OC (not even +50 core clock) so is that an indication that it's not running optimally due to bad cooling if I only see 72-75C max on temps? And if I do need to fix it, is my only option to pull the whole thing apart and bend it back? IMG_0621.HEIC IMG_1002.heic

I bought a Gammaxx 400v2 for an mATX LGA1150 HP board, but I can't fit the cooler because it seems the backplate bolts are too short. (the ones that go through the backplate on the bottom and into the motherboard) Does anybody know the size of these bolts so I can get longer ones? Thanks in advance.

Hello, my backplate suddenly lights only three led lights, only one light is able to change colors with rf remote. It's connected by SATA rf cable to SATA power cable. If someone knows what's happening it would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi everyone, Back when no Gpu's where available, I bought a prebuilt Lenovo Legión PC with an Legion AMD 6800 xt built in. Since then I've changed the casing to a Bequiet 500 DX, installed a new motherboard (Asus B550 F gaming) and cooled the CPU with an Arctic AIO. It works like a charm, except the GPU. Under load it gets pretty toasty and the fans spin very fast to cool it down, making the GPU extremely loud. Now I've tampered a with the fan curve and it didn't help much and I don't want to undervolt the gpu quite yet. I was thinking to watercool the GPU and maybe using a kit like the AIO GPU kit from Alphacool. Has anybody attempted something like this with an OEM Rx 6800 xt, or even better with the same Lenovo legión GPU? If yes what parts did you use, especially backplates and cooling block. Thanks in advance! BR, Yooora

So I have gotten myself into a little bit of an issue. I had previously installed a 120mm Lepa AIO water cooler into my computer for my CPU. Well the pump just died yesterday in the cooler and I wanted to proceed with taking it off to replace it with a new cooler. I took the AIO off, it went fine up until then. I went to try and unscrew the plastic bits on the front of my motherboard and they won’t come off. I have tried to push the pins through the back of my board to the front and, nothing. I have tried to hold the pins in the back to be able to twist off the plastic knobs in the front, to no success. I guess the plastic pieces might be cross threaded? No idea. But what would my solution to this be? Should I just dremel the plastic pieces off? I really do not know what to do at this point. About the missing pin in the backplate, when I was taking the cooler off it just fell off. Guess I got lucky.

Hi all! While waiting for more fittings to arrive to finish the water cooling loop, I wanted to make the backplate on my EVGA 3080 12G FTW3 active. It's not running that hot but it just bothers me that the backplate could be doing something instead of nothing. Just wondering if anyone has the same or similar card to get input on thermal pad thickness, and their placement. I was just going to place thermal pads on the backside of the memory solder points but is there anywhere else on the back that would like some more thermal mass? Also looking for recommendations on brands and types of thermal pads. Thanks in advance! For those who don't want to buy different kinds of thermal pads and read two people bicker over terminology, 3mm did the trick. Though a softer pad is ideal. If using harder pads 2.5mm may be just right.

Hello. im working on my first build and I’m trying to set it up on a test bench before I put in the case. I’m having trouble attaching the cpu cooler on the motherboard. I have an evga z370 ftw and a Corsair h60. I’m trying to attach the backplate but the screws just don’t line up with the holes on the motherboard. I’ve seen people say that it will work on a lga 1151 socket so I have no clue what I’m doing wrong. The screws move a little on the backplate but even that doesn’t help. help is greatly appreciated thanks!

Air Cooling the back of your Motherboard?! So i was wondering if any of you have had any first hand experience with air cooling the back of the PCB on your motherboards with a small to medium sized fan like an 80mm for example or if you have read/seen any tests on the topic? Does it have any positive effects on your CPU/VRMs and such in terms of overall temperatures? And which direction should the airflow of the fan be pointed at? Blowing air onto the surface or "sucking" the hot air away from the PCB? Of course the design and airflow capability of your case especially in the region behind the MB does have a big impact on the results i suppose, and it will be very different for everybody. Does this concept make sense at all or is it a total waste of time? So let me hear your thoughts on the topic! cheers

Buy Aorus GTX 1080 on Amazon: http://geni.us/95FBLzF Do GPU backplates ACTUALLY cool your video card, or are they just a gimmicky piece whose only benefit is aesthetic?

So, I currently have a watercooled loop which does only the CPU. and as my case is NOT designed for custom loops there is limited space. I was wondering if I could put the res on the backplate of a graphics card as it will help space alot. Atm I have a small kink in tubing and would really like a solution. Case: S340 Elite

So I am building another computer and the last time I did this was 6 years ago. I have a slight problem with my H100i V2 installation. I notice substantial wiggle room happening after I install the backplate for intel installation and I am nervous about this. I am wondering if there is anything I can do about this wiggle since it does not seem right to me. I will say that I have no completed my installation nor attached the pump because it seems to me like this wiggle shouldn't even happen. Especially after installing standoffs to me it should not wiggle. I have seen people adding washers to them..and results have been good but just figured since I follow this channel on youtube a lot that I would ask for advice here. Alright, so I bought a GTX 970 SSC off of EVGA surplus around thanksgiving of last year. The card works just fine, that's not why i'm here, thanks for asking. The only problem is that the card looks like ass and I need a backplate for it. Since 970 SSC backplates are more rare than Jimmy Hoffa's corpse, I am planning upon making one. That's where you come in. Could someone link me to a page that has the length and with dimensions of the card, I'm having trouble finding that online. I would measure the card, but I cant really get the card out because I am basically rendering video constantly and down time would be the worst thing right now. I plan upon 3D printing it, so I'd need the dimensions before I take it out to install the backplate, which is why I can't do it all at once. All help is appreciated! Please Help!

So i got this far fetched idea about something that i thought about the second i saw this cards cooper back plate. Thinking of investing in a Evge hybrid cooler for some fun to see if i can lower thermals when using both the stock air cooler and strapping a Evge hybrid to the cooper back plate. they should line up nicely if i'm not mistaking and the Aorus 1080 ti even has one extra unused pwm/fan header under the pcb where i marked (red circle). does anyone want to see this done/tested, or does someone even have the 2 and want to do such a test for me? Pictures for reference below:
