Hi, I recently set up a do-it-yourself makeshift security camera for my room (not facing inside the room by the way) using software called ContaCam by Contaware. It allows for clips to be uploaded to an FTP server that I set up on a different computer. The way that it organizes files by the year and month is fine, but after the month, it just throws everything in the same folder. I was wondering if there's some program that could automatically sort through the mix of .gif and .mp4 files that get dumped into that folder and organize them into separate folders either every time something new gets put in there, or at regular intervals throughout the day. I tried getting ContaCam to send those files to separate folders, but it didn't work. Does anyone know a program that can do this? Thanks! Just in case: System running ContaCam is a Lenovo Yoga 2 11 with an i3-4012Y, 4GB RAM, 500GB SSHD, Windows 10 Home System running the FTP has an i7-4790, BIOSTAR B85 motherboard, 16GB DDR3, 250GB Samsung 850, 500GB HDD, 1.5TB HDD, add-in wifi card with AX200, PSU is an RM1000X, and OS is Windows 10 Pro.

I'm trying to figure out how to set my phone alarm clock based on my Outlook calendar. My job has variable hours every day, and I usually have to set my alarm clock in the evening based on when my first appointment of the day will be. It takes exactly 50 minutes between waking up and getting to work, so I always set my alarm 1 hour before my first calendar event of the day. It's that action, creating and enabling an alarm based on my Outlook calendar, that I want to automate. I use Tasker for a few automations already, but IFTTT and other automations apps are on the table if Tasker is the wrong app for this. Has anyone done this before? Google isn't showing anything other than turning up Outlook notification volume, which isn't ideal.

Good Afternoon, So far I have created an automation task that scans files in a folder for any text string that matches Import Aborted. The step I am struggling with is getting Febooti to copy the files that contain that text to a separate folder so they can be viewed. I've thought about maybe creating a batch file that searches for the same text string and moves them. Can anyone help with this please? TIA

Recently I've found myself in a bit of a conundrum. I have several raspberry Pi's and Odroids that have or will be running home assistant. The consensus in the community is to use a dongle and a SSD through I do not like the fragility of this bulk nor do I trust the "small capacity" >128gb ssds out there. However there are brands like SanDisk and Samsung making high endurance SD cards rated for 120,000 hours of operation. I am currently using a Samsung pro endurance 128gb SD card and it has outlived any other SD card I have ever bought. It is still chucking along in good health. My issue is the lack of reviews and test done on these cards as IOPs are a huge deal with home assistant. Home assistants database writes out every device/entity event. Almost all SD cards bite the dust because of this operation. What is the communities experience with these high/pro/max endurance SD cards from Samsung and SanDisk. What would be optimal to deploy home assistant? Would love to see a tech tips video on SD cards and the specific applications. Should I be using a A2 SD card? A high endurance SD card? A SD card that has the most IOPs?

Hello everybody I have a slight issue with my current home automation setup (which is using Google Home) and i wondered if by switching ecosystem it might be solved. The issues is this: i have various triggers that turn off and on various devices (smart plugs and smart lights). Some of these triggers are position based, others time base. The problem is that Google Home doesn't allow the triggers to cross-reference each other: for example, i have a certain light come on at sunset. Then if a smartphone leaves the house, the Home mode gets turned to "away" and the light gets turned off. All fine and cool. But if the smartphone leaves the house and doesn't return before the set time for the other trigger, the trigger happens regardless...so even if the scenario is "away", the light still turns on. I think this is incredibly dumb programming by Google, and I honestly hope I'm just clueless and there's actually a setting to prevent this from happening. If there's not...does any of you folks use Samsung Smarthings or Alexa as a "smart-home ecosystem" and know if these two allow "triggers to talk to each-other"? Or if they have a hierarchy, meaning if a "higher grade" trigger is on (home mode away) all the others get disabled? If yes, i would gladly switchover all my smart-home stuff to such ecosystem (all devices should be compatible). Thanks anybody in advance.

Hi everyone I'll briefly explain my situation: I have a Mac computer located inside a not-so-well ventilated cabined. To play it safe and to guarantee its longevity I've fitted a nice Noctua fan to the back of the cabinet, which helps significantly with keeping the computer cool. Now, the fan is powered with a 12V standard power adaptor and I currently switch on and off the power manually. This is a minor inconvenience and minor constant power consumption if I forgot it on, but still, I wanted to automate the process. My first thought was to just get one of those cheap smart plug things compatible with IFTTT and to set up a routine that would be like "when the Mac is active, the plug is on, when it goes to sleep/shutdown it's off". The 12V power adaptor would obviously be connected trough the smart plug, and I would be set. But it turns out that, at least apparently, IFTTT integration on MacOS sucks big time. I was only able to find an utility made by some guy, which has a GUI that's not so great, needs quite a complicated setup and still doesn't really do what I want to do. Perhaps it's just my bad at searching and experimenting with IFTTT... My question then is: you know of any other smart integration method out there that could serve my case? Note that it needs to work on MacOS and it needs to be automatic [I had already though of some Homekit compatible plug, but I might as well stick to the physical switch if I need to open a software every time to turn on the fan] Thank you all Note: powering the fan from the Mac's USB ports is not an option for the way it's connected to docking stations and monitors...I need to power it off the 12V adaptor. Note #2: I'm not a native English speaker, pardon the probably not great phraseology.

Ookay so WFH life has got us all a little extra free-time. It's during these times that my fingers start to itch for some hobby programming...DUH DUH DUHHHH But first, some background - In my spare time, I host an [extremely] small public Minecraft server. I've never much enjoyed playing Minecraft, but administering a server always appealed to me. My roommate and I also run a [slightly less small] YouTube channel. This is only important because it's why I ended up with a Creality Ender 3V2 [3D Printer]. Back to the story! After recently moving, my roommate and I set up the 3D printer and printed a few parts for a project. In the mean-time, I was also fussing about with the Minecraft server. It didn't take long for me to realize that it would be so neat to be able to bring the digital builds of a Minecraft world into the physical world with a 3D printer. Not only that, I thought it would be super neat for the general public to be able to print their creations in my house (this also sounded like a terrible idea at the same time). So I looked into the problem and realized that with the help of a few great programs (Mineways, SuperSlicer) I would be able to make just that happen quite easily. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! I could AUTOMATE it Just what my itching fingers needed So I set about writing a few Python scripts, Bash scripts, CRON jobs, and a Java Minecraft plugin. 3 short days later, I had done it! My first fully-automated print from my public Minecraft server! (Plus automated Tweets, and the entire process is livestreamed, of course) ... Alas, I've been sad lately. A few folks have hopped on and built a few things, but it really hasn't gained any traction. That's why I'm posting here. I hope to find a few other folks who think this is cool, and may want to at least share it with their friends. If that's you, I'd love to hear it I won't drop any links unless someone is interested, but I'll include a screenshot of the current server setup below.

Yeah I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm trying to go through Citra's, pcsx2's, and dolphins forums and organize all their content because I got tired of trying to find it, and then having to try to find it again. I just want an easy way to view patch's files and what not and keep it organized on my pc so I don't have to download things 10,000 times. Though I'm planning on uploading everything eventually to my next cloud instance, and eventually a wiki (wiki advice also welcomed), I figure I should at lest figure out how I'm gonna store it first so here I am. If someone has suggestions I'd greatly apricate it, but I've taken to dos because... the only other coding language I know is HTML/CSS and I don't think I can style my way out of this mess. I'm not set on dos. but o3o it's the only langage i kind of know. I am making this thread to get some pointers on a personal project of mine, I made a little documentation to make it less intimidating but I still got no clue where to start. My question, is there a more simpler way to do what I am doing? or how would you do it? I am trying to get more ideas, I never messed with a micro computer prior to this and this whole thing is supposed to a trip down learning lane

I am looking to make a little automated plant watering project this summer and I'll likely buy another one for my second unrelated project. For the time being I am looking to familiarize myself with them. Basically looking to get the ph, moisture, humidity, temperature and a light sensor, I'll get the readings and throw it on to a website to display on a graph for the first part and for the second part I will use the data to automate some relays to water it, and send me monthly trends. (This will be all indoors limited to one pot probably lol) I noticed there are a lot of starter kits on amazon, but where do I even start? Edit I am coming at it from a Computer Science world, with barely any electrical/engineering knowhow, but I know enough to figure out my way through.

I’m looking for a USB KVM with an IR remote to allow me to control it with my Logitech Harmony hub. I would prefer to do this over IR, but I have thought about a Raspberry PI or Arduino and just soldering wires to the button contacts on a regular USB KVM, but that’s kinda a pain. I don’t need usb 3.0, just 2.0 for a keyboard/mouse and only needs to switch between two devices. Let me know if anyone’s found any in the $25-$50 range!

Hi Everyone, First time posting here, but I've been a regular viewer of the channel for the last 4 years. Since being inspired by this video, I have always wanted to put together my own NAS and server at home, and have finally gotten around to doing it. Based on the details below, what are your recommendations? Budget (including currency): AUD 1000 - 2000 Country: Australia (Melbourne specifically) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: NAS for photo & video originals, and document backup (this is in addition to backup on google drive for photos and videos, and everything else on OneDrive) Running a Windows VM with BlueIris as an NVR connected to 4K PoE IP cameras. I'll need a PoE switch for that, but that's later down the track and can be separate to this Running a DeepQuestAI server (in docker container) for computer vision detection for the BlueIris NVR above A server to run additional VMs to experiment with Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I am looking to keep the price down, and want to buy used hardware where possible. I was thinking of a dual xeon server with 32 GB of RAM, running unRAID and 4 x 2 TB WD Red or Seagate Ironwolf drives, with 2 x 480 GB SSDs for cache. For BlueIris, I might also see if I can get a cheap Quadro/GeForce card as well. As much as I would love to go out and get a proper server chassis for this, my concerns are that it will be very noisy (this is going in a cupboard under the stairs) and power draw being pretty high. However, if that isn't the case, I'd be happy to consider it, particularly since I will eventually want to have a server rack to put this, and a router/switch, etc. in the future, along with possible other servers, depending on how I go. I should also mention that I am planning to set up Home Assisstant on a Raspberry Pi 4 soon, to start building out home automation, so this will be separate to that. So everyone, what are your thoughts and recommendations? Any help is appreciated!

Hey, I watched the recording of WAN Show today (WAN Show March 3, 2023) and heard about your issue with the starting of it. Because we had a similar problem at the company i am working for i decided to create this account and propose the solution we settled on: We have a countdown at the beginning we start rolling when we are ready to start and start the going live process. It is more than long enough to last until all plattforms are live and has some nice animations in the background. When it hits 0 our intro starts rolling (with a nice transition) and everyone in the studio nows when it will be finished and can prepare properly as it will switch automatically to the maincam once the intro is over. As i do not work in the team that was responsible for it i do not know how exactly how they did it, but it should not really be harder than rolling the regular intro by just putting the countdown in front of the videofile. It also has a second benefit: By doing so users have some time to join and do not miss the first seconds if they stream on youtube where there is no preshow. The only problem i see would be a break between the preshow and the mainshow for those that watch the preshow, but i can not really comment if this might be a problem as i have not watched the preshow so far As i have not used the forum so far i am not sure if this is the right place to post, please inform me otherwise

Been an LTT fan for a while, but was never a big forum user. Decided to create an account today so that I could post about a clever idea I thought of, which could help automate Spotify ad reads. During the WAN show, at the beginning of the ad reads, someone could press a button which, for example, plays an inaudible sound for the Vod (assuming this is possible lol). At that point, automating ads would be a matter of searching for this inaudible sound frequency in the recording, snipping out the appropriate video section, and inserting the Spotify ad reads. Thanks for reading, hopefully I posted in the correct location lol

Hi all, My wife and I are currently in the process of refurbing a house built in the 70s for our family, I would like to put in as much smart technology as I can but am not sure where to begin. I am looking at setting up an office in the house with a cabinet and racks for networking, my computer is a pretty substantial build so should be more than capable of running most things. I am going to be using it for my Plex server and plan on putting in a home cinema also? What would be your recommendations? Should I run software of the computer to control the house? What would yous recommend for the different rooms? Kitchen (lighting, kettle, over, etc) and the same with all other rooms? Where should I begin? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. I’m basically starting from a blank slate and want to do as much as I can with the money I have Thank you

Hi all, After viewing Taran's 2 massive video editing Premiere tutorials and his use of macros, I wanted to ask if anyone has ever automated their workflow in either Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve (the 2 platforms I plan on using). I know there is some automation with some smaller and open source video applications, but is there any chance of automation with these two major commercial editing programs? Best, Eric

I used to use a software that is called hazel to automate file sorting on my macbook. Here is one of the scenario: once a new pdf file is downloaded to my desktop, i ask hazel to automatically move that file into a folder that I pre created called : PDF collection. Can I do this using apple's own automation app?? If so, how can I do it? Hazel 4 is quite expensive and I don't really wanna pirate it. So.

PlasmaDan's Living Room Cinema / Office Build Demo So my self-build home cinema is pretty-much complete now. This week I finally installed the motorised blind, which is controlled by a Raspberry Pi. I thought I would share some demo videos of everything working. Firstly, a quick demo of my APA102 addressable RGB LEDs. Motorised blind up & running. Also a more concise tour video. It's taken over 3 years to get here but considering I did all the work myself I think I've done quite well. Let me know your thoughts. I've not really been on the forum much since I'm mostly active on AVForums instead, but as an LTT fan I thought I'd come back and share my stuff. For those interested, the full build thread of my home cinema is here (LOT OF PICS): https://www.avforums.com/threads/ongoing-plasmadans-living-room-cinema-office-build.1992617/ Dan.

Hey Guys, I am going to be setting up a minecraft server on a computer I have laying around, will post specs at the bottom. I will be using windows server 2012 r2 and just want it to be a consistent lag free setup that will just stay open on its own all the time with very little input from me. I would like the server to auto restart every 6 hours, I am planning to use spigot and plugins to do that so I have that figured out. My question is on non server hardware with regular ddr4 memory will it be okay to not restart the machine often(or at all)? What I really want is to have the minecraft server(software) auto restart every 6 hours. And have the actual server(hardware) reboot every 24 hours without harming anything. I am not sure if the server hardware reboot is necessary though. Basically in short, me and 5-10 friends play minecraft and just want a server that will always be on, and always have our world on it, that I do not have to pay for(realms) without lag. System: Skylake I3 of some kind, not sure the actual cpu. 16 gbs ddr4 memory 256 gb SSD not sure if anything else is relevant Network: 200 mb/s down 20 mb/s up I am also curious the bandwidth something like this would use, I have a 700 gb monthly cap and get pretty close to it every month. Thanks in advance please let me know if you need any other info to help me.

I need a way to auto-rename a folder when a certain type of file is in it (in this case an Adobe In-Design lock file), and then have the folder renamed back to the original name when the file is deleted. Is this possible? If so, what's the easiest way?

HeIlo guys, I have a question regarding the backup of files. I'm planning on using a laptop for work. When I come home, I would like to backup the files in folder "X" to a NAS/Network drive when connected or with one click. This process should be automated. Also, it would be great if the software used would detect already backuped files, so they don't get saved twice on the NAS. Is there a software for my purpose available? I don't have to use freeware and I have time for more difficult solutions, if they are advantageous. Thank you for your answers
