I need a simple trustworthy software that: - Is free - Allows me to automatically sync (backup) a folder on my computer to 1 or more disks connected to the PC (I know a better option would be RAID1, but I do not need to backup the whole computer; but just 1 folder on a laptop to be always synced to a smaller SD card that is always in the laptop, for instance) I know there are many, I'd like to know which one is the most robust, trustworthy and most used.

I have some wallpapers in a slideshow using the default Windows 10 personalization app. There is an option to change accent color's automatically by detecting it from the current wallpaper. The problem is, it is not very accurate. Is there a way to make the auto detection smarter or have different accent colors pre-selected? Any Windows Store app/software which can help me in this or any work arounds?

Hello All! Thanks for taking at look at this thread, I have a rather odd project I would like to embark on, but i'm sure most of you can relate. I have an Amazon Echo that I would like to begin using as a family calendar system. As i'm sure many of you are aware, adding events to the calendar is very easy, so I would like to have everyone on my family be able to just yell an event out the the Echo and then everyone knows what's happening very quickly. The problem is that when you make an event, It gets added to whatever person's calendar who is signed in at the time. In this case, my mother's. She uses a Gmail calendar which I think is the best solution here, but please let me know if you have other ideas. Anyways, I want any event that is created with the Echo to have a list of guests that are automatically invited via email. This way, any event that is important enough to yell at the Echo, will also be forwarded to everyone in the household. Doesn't sound too difficult, but I can't seem to find any products or guides that will help me achieve this. I think there is a way to add groups to google calendar, but if I did it this way, It would require me to manually go into the events that have been created and forward them, which defeats the purpose of this project. If I need to run some sort of Echo Bridge or server I have a VM ready to take the job. If anyone can provide a guide for me to do this I would greatly appreciate it. Even if the solution is still somehow staring me in the face, and I just don't see it yet... Thanks for the support!

Hello All, I am currently looking for a new solution to automatically connect to my network switches/routers and save a copy of my running configurations. I currently have Infoblox NetMRI doing this, but it is not working for all my switches and support is horrible. Frankly I pay a yearly subscription for a device I am not fully utilizing. I am strictly looking for some software to SSH to my boxes and save a copy of the running config file. This cant be done manually as I manage over 250 pieces of equipment. I am open to any suggestions. Networking Equipment I use are Avaya,Juniper and Palo Alto.

I've setup my laptop as a Plex server and I have been using TimeComX to put it into hibernate at midnight and turn back on in the morning. However, although it does enter hibernation at night, it won't automatically come back on at the time set? Maybe it's just TimeComX? Anyone know a better program for the job?

About a year ago, I've installed an SSD on my mom's Dell laptop, its been working fine, but then all in a sudden she came to me and told me that its been on "preparing automatic repair loop" So I Unplugged the SSD from the laptop and plugged it to my gaming machine 1- I tried booting on my PC SSD, while having my mom's SSD plugged in (It failed, as soon as I unplug her SSD, it boots right away) 2- I tried unplugging all my storage devices and keeping my mom's SSD alone ( it gave me the same error on PC - preparing automatic repair ) 3- I tried pluggin in a windows 10 USB stick and booting on it while keeping my mom SSD's plugged in (It failed, just stuck on loop, as soon as i unplug the SSD it works right away) Im having a hard time getting anything to boot while that SSD is plugged in, and i obviously need it plugged in or else it wouldnt detect, i cant just plug it after booting cause it still wont be detected. So It seems like the SSD is either corrupted or its just faulty (I dont think its faulty or else it shouldnt even work to even give me that "preparing automatic repair loop" - I think it works, its just corrupted and I have no way of formatting it) my biggest issue is that i cant even format it because nothing would boot while that damn thing is plugged in. Does anyone know any way to work around it?

Hey guys, first time posted here. I was just wondering, does anyone know if there is a way to stop my case fans from spinning up unless necessary? I have just purchased the Corsair Air 740 and I'm trying to make it as quite as possible. My temps are currently stable and remain stable when I use MSI Eco Center to turn off the case fans entirely. My setup can be seen here. Thank you.

Hi All, I have a remote file server computer in an office I don't have physical access to, and every so often it will shut down after updates are installed, or a power out, somebody accidently unplugging the system etc. My question is, is there a way to automatically force windows to restart after a shutdown in all cases? Everything I've found online about windows 10 is related to shutting this feature off, and I want to verify it automatically tries to reboot. Sorry, I'm not trained in any kind of IT, but I'm the most knowledgeable in my office about anything IT related so it falls on me to figure it out. Hoping somebody can steer me in the right direction. Thanks!

I'm looking for a way for programs to trigger different fan curves. For example, by default all fans should be stopped, and CPU fan at min RPM, when I launch a game the fans would ramp up. Also no, sadly there's no good curve for me. And I don't want to manually turn on fans every time I launch a game. My current "manual way" of turning fans up is putting fan controller on desired speed. As for CPU cooler and one extra fan that didn't fit into fan controller (too many fans) I have to use AI Suite, I mean it kinda works, but at times I forget to put fans back on. In case someone wants to know, I got NH-D15 as my CPU Cooler.

Rsync is a very powerful data replication tool for synchronizing files between two locations. This can be performed locally on one system, locally on the network (LAN), or remotely over the Internet (WAN). As great of a tool as Rsync is, the fully functional version is only available on Linux. There are less functional 3rd party versions for Windows such as Grsync but this guide is going to discuses how it's possible to use Rsync on Windows so that synchronization over the network & Internet are possible. 1. Preparing for and Installing the Linux Terminal First introduced in Windows Build 1604 with the Anniversary Update and later stabilized in Windows Build 1703 with the Fall Creators Update a feature was included in Windows known as the Windows Subsystem for Linux(WSL). This feature is disabled by default so we need to enable it. Go to the stat menu and search for the Control Panel. From there navigate to Programs > "Turn Windows features on or off". Scroll down the list until you find Windows Subsystem for Linux. Tick the box. Click OK, and you'll be prompted to restart your computer. After your computer is done restarting you need to open an elevated command prompt. You can do this by going to Start > Search: CMD > Right Click : Command Prompt > Run as administrator > Yes. Once you're in type: bash This should prompt you if you'd like to install Ubuntu on Windows. However, if you get this error like I did: Follow the address https://aka.ms/wslstore this will take you to the Microsoft Store and list to you all the available distros to choose from: For this guide we're going to stick with the popular user friendly Ubuntu but if you like you should be able to pick any other flavor you prefer. Click on Ubuntu (or other) and click on Install: You may have to click Launch once the download is done but once it is you should be greeted by a prompt tell you that Ubuntu is installing: Be patient, this will finish on it's own. Once it's ready you'll be prompted to create a UNIX username & password: I've just gone with test_sys for the sake of the tutorial. Once this is done you should be greeted by a green prompt that says your-username@your-computername:~$ For best reliability & performance we're going to perform a package update. This will updates many components of our terminal which can be achieved by running the two following commands (if prompted for a password use the password you created): sudo -i apt-get update && apt-get upgrade sudo -i makes us root which is necessary to have full access to every directory that we need. Ordinarily we would use sudo followed by our command (sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade) to get root privileges but this is not sufficient. The command will run partially then error. This update will take a few minutes, be patient. 2. Setting Up Automatic Login over SSH with Passwordless Public/Private Key Authentication With updates done, and in order for automatic replication to work (over a network/Internet) we need a way to automatically authenticate with our server. The server can be local(LAN) or remote(WAN) but to perform the initial configuration password authentication needs to be enabled. For this example I'm going to use a local FreeNAS server. What we're going to do right now is create a public/private key pair using the following command: ssh-keygen It is going to ask you for a series of inputs including where to save it & to password protect the key. If you have a directory where you want the files you can put that in or just hit enter for the default .ssh directory. For password protection DO NOT PUT ONE IN. Leave the field empty and just hit enter. A passwordless key pair will be generated: Once this is done we need to put the public key on our server. It's possible to copy the file yourself and move it to the server via WebUI (in the case of FreeNAS) but with password authentication enabled we can use a more direct route. The command below will have to be edited to suit your use case but will follow this structure. ssh-copy-id -i .ssh/id_rsa.pub root@192.168.0.247 Be sure to specify the user on the remote server "user@" without this the terminal will attempt to authenticate with your local account and fail. If you haven't established a connection with this server before you'll receive this warning: If you trust the server say Yes. With this passwordless public/private key authentication is configured and you'll be given the following prompt: Disable password authentication on the server and attempt to login: ssh root@192.168.0.247 If done correctly you won't be prompted for a password: Using the passwordless RSA key pair is still a very secure way of authentication. So long as a unauthorized user doesn't get the private key on our Ubuntu Terminal the server is safe. 3. Create the Rsync Script There are many ways to write a script with many different functions but for the sake of this tutorial we're going to keep it very basic. First off we need to open a text editor within the Terminal. Our two major options are Vim & Nano. For this example we're going to use nano as it's the simpler of the two. At the same time we can name our file. I'll call mine backup.script: nano backup.script At the very base of our script is our primary command: #!/bin/bash rsync The first line here is common for scripts as it tells *NIX what type of interpreter we want it to run. The next line is the base of our command "rsync". From here we need to add our switches. Not going over all of them some of the extras we're interested in are: -P - Combines --progress (Shows you the progress of each file being transferred) & --partial (If a large file transfer is interrupted this keep the remote file intact and resumes the transfer when a connection is reestablished) -z - Compresses files while they're being transferred which helps speed up the overall transfer of files. Many file formats cannot be compressed though including (7z, avi, bz2, deb, g,z iso, jpeg, jpg, mov, mp3, mp4, ogg, rpm, tbz, tgz, z, zip) -h - Instead of displaying the transfer speeds in bytes -h will show you it in the converted KB/s, MB/s etc --stats - Give you a summary of how the transfer went when it's done --log-file - Saves how the sync went to a log file so you can refer to it later if anything went wrong. It's important to note that in this environment everything is case sensitive. -p is not the same as -P, -Z is not the same as -z If you want more detail on rsync open the Terminal and run the command: man rsync With this we can construct our rsync command: #!/bin/bash rsync -avzhP -e 'ssh -p 22' --delete --stats --log-file=/mnt/c/users/test_sys/backup-`date +”%F-%I%p”`.log /mnt/c/somefiles root@192.168.0.247:/mnt/test/ You will have to determine your own directories for your log-file, what local folder you want to copy, & what remote directory you want to place them in but your command should look similar to this. If you save and exit nano (Ctrl + O then Ctrl + X) copy/paste just the rsync line and paste it into your terminal it should run and give you and output similar to this: If you set the log-file to your desktop you should also find it there: backup-Year-Month-Day-HourAM/PM, this is what the code in the script creates for the file name. Next we need to take our two lines and make it a file Linux can execute. This can be achieved by first checking the files current permissions. The command for this is: ls -l backup.script Your output should look like: Right now the permissions are: Owner: Read/Write Group: Read/Write Other: Read/Write We need the Owner to be able to execute this file. Depending on your use case you may want Group or Other to have access to the file but for this example Owner is the only one who needs any access so we're going to use the command: chmod 700 backup.script Checking our file again: Our script has now turned green and the Owner now has execute permissions. We can test the file by running the command: ./backup.script If we wrote it correctly it will execute and close by itself without issue. We can check the log file to verify that it worked correctly. 4. Making the Script Execute by Itself With Windows Task Scheduler To make our script perform a routine backup on it's own we can use Windows Task Scheduler. This can be found by going to Start > Search: "Task Scheduler". When the Task Scheduler opens click "Action" (near the top left) and from the drop down click on "Create Task...". This will bring up the following menus: Each persons configuration will be different so I can't fully go over how to setup each tab but I can go over the basics: General - Where you'll pick a name for this task, and a description(optional), you can also chose if it will only run when your user is logged in our not. Triggers - This is where you will chose what will cause the task to be ran. For us "On a schedule" will be our choice. Here you can pick the frequency at which our task will be ran. Actions - This is where we will setup our script to be executed. I will explain how in a moment. Conditions - Offers some advanced features such as start delay or if you don't want the task to run if the system is on battery. Settings - Offers miscellaneous configuration options. Go to the Actions tab and click "New..." For Action we want to start a program. Under Program/script click "Browse..." on the right. What we're going to do is use CMD.exe to run our script. CMD.exe will be located at C:/Windows/System32/cmd.exe, click on it and hit Open We now need to tell CMD what it is we want it to do and we can do that by adding an argument. In the "Add arguments (optional):" field I'm going to use: -cmd /C wsl /home/test_sys/backup.script Breaking this down: -cmd - Tells cmd.exe that we want it to execute a command on it's own when it starts up /C - This tells cmd.exe to autmatically close after it finishes executing our command. You can use /K to make it stay open. wsl - Windows Subsystem for Linux. This starts our default Terminal /home/test_sys/backup.script - This is the absolute path within our Terminal to our script. Even though the Terminal opens in our home directory using the relitive path "./backup.script" will not work. Absolute path is nessasary. With that you can click OK. Once you're done personalizing your Task you can click OK to create it. If you right-click the Task you can Run it to verify it'll work when it executes according to your schedule. Summary This is not the only way that we could have accomplished rsync on Windows. There are other options, other ways to setup our script, other ways to run it automatically, but this is quite ideal using readily available services included in Windows. If you're particularly script savvy you can take this to a whole additional level by extending the complexity of our script or running multiple scripts in parallel. If you believe there is anything wrong with this guide. Anything that could be done better, improved, or simplified I'm open to all suggestions and will make appropriate revisions. Hope this helps someone.

I need something that would allow me to send a set of preprogrammed keypresses to any computer I plug it into. I plug it in it executes the preprogrammed key presses then when it's done I take it out and plug it into the next computer. or a keyboard that I can plug into several computers that would send the key presses to all computers at the same time at my work, I set up several computers manually almost every day so if I had this device I would only have to hit the keys once for several computers rather than going to each computer and typing on each one, one at a time. or a Macro key set that stores the macros locally on the device so I could create macros and plug it into any computer and run the macros without having to install the software for the thing. because I would need it to work without a program running in the background of the OS like most gaming keyboards do. Example of what I do when I set up a computer. 1st I have to reimage the computer with pixie boot 2nd I have to put in my credentials 3rd I wait for it to install windows 4th I have to make myself local admin 5th I have to I have to hit the windows key and type in the IP address for the server that has my bat files on it 6th then from there, I would run the appropriate bat files depending on which department the computer is going to so since steps 1-5 are exactly the same every time I would like a way to automate it for several computers at the same time. I usually set up several computers at a time so being able to plug in a USB device to take care of steps 1-5 for me while I do other things would be nice then do step 6 individually after or a keyboard that can send the keypresses to several computers at once would also be nice so I only have to do steps 1-5 once then go to each computer and do step 6 individually

I plan on purchasing a watch for myself for my upcoming birthday, I think I've narrowed it down to 5 watches so far. Do take a look at each of these and let me know which you would pick if you don't mind. I know this isn't a watch forum but I value your opinions all the same. I have a thin wrist coming in at 5.75" total so the largest watch I'd dare go for would be around 40mm, though even some 40mm watches are a no go due to their lug to lug length. Not planning to spend more than $300, I would have loved to get a mechanical chronograph watch but the only mechanical chronograph I can find under $300 is made by Seagull 1963(movement is the Seagull ST19) which is a Chinese company and their watch dials all look unappealing to me. So my only options for a chronograph are quartz unfortunately... on top of that all the smaller mechanical chronograph watches I could find were from brands like Omega which are towards the high end of the price range(thousands). The watch purchased will most likely be added to my everyday watch collection, I currently have a Seiko SNK805, 1994 Seiko 7002a Diver, and some random Chronotime mechanical watch of which I can't tell the model of. I'm open to suggestions as well, thanks! Watches listed in the poll below: 1. Seiko SSB031 Chronograph - Link to Buy 2. Seiko SNDC33 Chronograph - Link to Buy 3. Seiko Presage SRPB07J1 - Link to Buy 4. Seiko Presage SSA339J1 Limited Edition(2000 made, individually numbered) - Link to Buy 5. Orient Bambino Open Heart - Link to Buy

So after a windows update not long ago, this happened. My screen gamma got way darker than my usual amount and preference. So I used Nvidia control panel to increase the gamma to 1.20. However now the screen keep slowly flickering between +1.00 gamma and +1.20 and that is really annoying. Any way to solve this?

Hey guys, I want to setup my monitor and TV to my PC. I recently bought an LG 4K TV that I connected to my PC via HDMI. I also have Dell U2413 IPS monitor that I use for productivity. The problem I'm facing is that I want to use one device at a time. For example if I come home and decide to work on something I turn on my PC and my monitor. I want the monitor to automatically work on it's default resolution (1920x1200) and don't have a second screen somewhere on the side (meaning TV). And if I feel like just sitting on my couch and watch movies or play games I turn off my monitor, turn on my TV and play games or watch movies on it's native resolution (4K). I kind of made it work manually. If I make PC to show only Display 2 (monitor) it shows my monitor. Then if I want to watch movies I make PC show only Display 1 (TV) then turn off my monitor accept changes on TV screen in 15 second and then do whatever there. Then after done watching do reverse thing... It is bothering me a lot... Is there any way I can automate this? Hope you understood what I want Thank you in advance.

I would like something in similar to the WD app, however i do not want to spend the money on a NAS etc.

Hey all! I pulled the plug on GPU upgrade and went from EVGA 970 to EVGA 1070. Exciting stuff! I did some testings in Witcher 3 and Rainbow Six Siege and everything looked okay, BUT..... I got some very noticeable drops in Witcher 3 city areas (Novigrad, main squaire). I ran the game at 1080p, hairworks on (0x AA), maxed. Frames jumped around pretty badly, from 45 to 65 in that one area. Walking around countryside I got 70-80fps on same settings so I was happy about that. I asked a friend of mine about what might be causing these drops and he made a very good suggestion: Check CPU usage. So I did. My usage jumped around 90-100% most of the time. I have a habit of keeping a lot of background programs open, my CPU idling around 20% so I closed some of em up and tested again, and sure enough, I got some extra frames, now keeping mostly in 50's. So of course, now I want it to go faster. Now the problem is, I haven't made anything go fast ever before. I know internet is FULL of OC guides and such, but I noticed something interesting while looking at my BIOS: OC Tuner "Sweet, an auto OC tool !" And then I found a whole lot of nothing about how to use it on internet. I have always found the descriptions of stuff in BIOS very cryptic. The tool had 3 options: As is, Ratio first & BCLK first. I have no idea what each of these do (I guess As is the default one as it was selected). I found people saying good and bad things about this tool. Some say its okay, some say to do it manually. I'm not looking for that ultimate 100% performance OC. I just want that extra kick to get few more frames with stable settings. So what i'm asking here: How do I use this tool, what do these settings mean, and is this a good idea for first time OC'er? Of course, specs bellow: Asus Z87-K EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 Intel i5-4670K 3.40GHz (CPU cooler which model I forget, but I assure you its very big and bulky and stuff) Kingston 8GB DDR3 RAM Samsung 850 EVO 240Gb SSD Windows 10 64bit Western Digital Blue 1TB HDD Seasonic S12 II 520W BRONZE

So yesterday i bought new case NZXT Phantom 530 and Gigabyte GTX 970. Me and my friend replacing all the components from my old PC to the new one. Here are the specs: i7 4790k Gigabyte GTX 970 Corsair CX750M Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Pro 2x8(16GB) Gigabyte GA H97-Gaming-3 Cooler Master HYPER 212X TURBO When everything done, i plug the power cable behind the case, and turn the switch. Funny thing is, before i press the power button in the top of case, my pc turn on for a split second, then turn off. I tried the solutions from other forum like remove then insert the RAM stick, reseating heatsink, remove GPU. Still the same problem. I bought the motherboard a year ago and PSU in 2014, so it's still kinda new i think. And have a zero problem before this. Anyone knows how to fix it ?

Greetings, recently my R9 280x had been acting weird every now and then, it would randomly show artifacts, weird visual glitches when certain effects were used or even crash my PC, I thought it was because I was running modded games, or maybe a faulty driver, or in the worst case scenario, it was dying. A quick google search showed that it could be overheating so I decided to try and run my games with the fans always at 100% speed but when I looked around in AMD CCC I noticed that the option to tweak the fan speed wasn't there anymore, I dug around different forums and someone mentioned downloading the latest version of "Crimson", after looking around the different settings and playing a few different games to see how it affected performance on my GPU and that was the moment I realized the fans on my R9 280x were always running at 20% speed, even when the GPU temperature reached 70°C, I tried enabling the Profile OverDrive for certain games so the fans would increase their speed according to the game I was playing but their speed never increased no matter what. Only after I changed the fan settings to Manual on the Global OverDrive tab the fans' speed increased. A regular user wouldn't have noticed and could've ended up frying his GPU just because the drivers wouldn't work as they are supposed to in order to control the temperature of the card but I was lucky to find that forum. I've been wondering if there could be any permanent damage on my GPU, and if so, what are my chances of getting my R9 280x replaced by AMD? I really can't afford to fix it, much less buy a new GPU. Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

First here's my system config: 2500k, Z68X-UD3H-B3, 8GB G Skill 1333 DDR3, GTX 570 Classified, Seasonic 660W platinum, MX 200 250GB. I am running Windows 10 Pro which was installed through the upgrade process from Windows 8.1 Pro. Today I installed a new ram kit. The new kit is 32GB G Skill 1600 DDR3. After installing the new ram, I booted the computer, it posted just fine, but seemed to fail getting into windows. When I say fail, I mean that it showed the windows logo, but nothing else. No spinny circle, no words, just a logo. So I powered down the machine by holding the power button in after 10 minutes of waiting. I then entered the BIOS to check the ram settings, all 32GB is detected in the BIOS, and I set the speed manually to 1333. After saving the BIOS, Windows went directly into "Preparing Automatic Repair" which lasted for 30 minutes, then a black screen with a cmd window that briefly popped up named winpeshl.exe from what I could tell. Then the screen just went full black. I let that go for another 30-ish minutes figuring windows was working on something, before hard resetting again. Is this fixable? Does the RAM upgrade automatically require a "repair" in Windows 10 Pro? And another related question: If I need to reinstall, how do I download Windows 10 Pro from the Media Creation Tool? Trying to create install media from my laptop does not give me the Windows 10 Pro option in the drop down. I suspect that has to do with my laptop having Windows 10 (non-pro). How do I go about that? Thanks for any help.

Long story short, the latest intel hd drivers that windows keeps trying to install are causing some issues on my laptop. The issue is that if I install an older driver that works properly, windows 10 automatically updates it within a few reboots. From my time looking around the settings app, there isnt really any option that lets me disable these updates... Any help would be appreciated.
