Hi smart people! I've recently started upgrading my home setup to the Ubiquiti unifi ecosystem, with that I now am the proud owner of a UDM-PRO. Unfortunately living in Australia my area is currently limited to FTTN through Aussie Broadband. I have a NetComm modem that I have in the recent past setup in bridge mode to an EdgeRouter, this took hours to get working originally and I still don't know what magic finally did the trick. Unfortunately now I'm having trouble setting it up with my UDM. From what I've found this seems to be a common problem with VDSL but none of the steps I have tried so far have worked. Any suggestions?

The budget is ideally around $1300 Australian dollars ( Up to $1500 max). Will probably be used for music software, gaming and work on 1080p 165fps with medium to high settings. Mixcraft 9 (Music software), Fortnite and Minecraft. Has to have at least 500gb of SSD storage and 16gb of RAM. Motherboard with at least 4 RAM slots for future upgrades. No preference for the case size. Ideally no HDD drive. Aesthetics don't matter for this build. Looking for upcoming sales. Will build soon. Starting fresh upgrading from a laptop. Monitor and operating system are bought separately and aren't needed on this list. Don't need any extra peripherals. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you, Carl

Summary Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) launched action against Meta (Facebook), with the court ordering its subsidiaries pay $20.4 million dollars AUD* (included court costs) for misleading advertising of its VPN security application Onavo Protect, which was advertised to "keep your data safe" but was in fact scraping user data to form aggregated data that was sent to Meta for commercial use. * $14 Million dollars USD. Quotes My thoughts Yay! Facebook admitted it did something wrong... while their spokesman claims all their problems are in the past while ignoring they still have a Cambridge Analytica case still pending in Australia. The most disappointing thing is the last quote from the Judge that she thinks $20.4 million dollars (AUD) is enough of a "sufficient sting"... the same day Meta reported a $32 billion dollar in revenue this year, a 11% rise in revenue, and earned them a 7% surge in its share price in trading. Like $145 billion dollar maximum would of stung and woke up most of silicon valley to immediately review every advert, EULA,TOS, privacy policy and then promptly make them to just delete all the data they scraped from Australia in the last 20 years out of fear. It was a missed opportunity to sting them harder to get a positive change out of the industry. Budget (including currency): 2000-2200 dollars Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Apex, Rocket League, Story based games such as Harry Potter and star wars https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/xJh63y This is the list I came up with. It has been a while since I was last building a pc and I am out of the loop so feel free to suggest any change. I would like to keep the price a little lower if possible. I would like to run 1440p and if possible keep the colour scheme white. I could really use help in the CPU, GPU and Graphics Card areas. I have found two g5 monitors for 269 per monitor and will probably choose them. Any help is really appreciated.

I admit having files "from the seas" and passwords saved locally that I plan to bring into Australia, but not sure if there's a good way to go around it. Any suggestions or advice is fine, albeit download is on my lowest priority (since uploading and redownloading will take a really long time, as I heard Australia internet is quite slow / bad + my net is slow on upload, too).

Budget (including currency): Around AUD $3000 Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Development (Visual Studio, Photoshop, Unity3D) Video Editing (Premiere) Gaming Notes/Thoughts Monitor: 3,440 x 1,440 (Samsung G8, not included in the budget) No RGB or case window wanted. Want minimal lights etc. The main question, Intel or AMD? Went Intel for this build, but is AMD better for these workloads? Went with 64GB of RAM as running Photoshop + Unity3D + Visual Studio + Web Browser can eat up a lot. Went with the i7, could go down to i5 if it's worth bumping up some other components. I’m attempting to build a PC in Australia, and have recently noticed that almost all GPUs are marked up by at least $200-300 from the Australian prices. Flagship cards such as the 4090 are marked up by upwards of $600. (This is all based on MSRP, so things are further escalated by board partners) My first thought was import taxes being different, or companies having to pay GST (10% Tax) when importing items with a customs value over 1000 AUD, but these numbers are to big to be explained by differences between Australian and US taxes. Does anyone else have these problems in countries outside the US?

Hi, Recently my Asus AC-RT88u wireless router (https://www.asus.com/au/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rt-ac88u/techspec/) has decided not want to connect via WAN port with my TP-link VX220-G2V. After 10th factory resets and troubleshooting I've given up. Moving on I'm now looking at a decent replacement Wireless Router with atleast 4 ethernet ports and WiFi 6 to connect my smart things hub, 2 room with wired ethernet. I was also thinking on buying the same brand to prevent conflicts. ( https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-ax1500/) Possible replacement? Any help on this would be great. Cheers.

Summary After threats of Google seeking to prevent search operations in Australia, and largely backing down after signing agreements with Australian Media Business, Facebook has decided to suspend the posting and sharing of News Articles and Information from the Pages of Australian Media and other sources. ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), Nine and Fairfax, News Corp and others have had their posts removed from the platform. Other pages such as Australian Bureau of Meteorology (weather provider), Comedy News shows and satirical news pages have also been affected. Questions remain for Emergency Services Providers. Communications between the Government and Facebook are ongoing... Quotes My thoughts They are a private company, and can choose to play how they like to. There is a question about media literacy and people's lack of finding alternative sources. Maybe it's just convenient. The are also questions whether this code was mostly put in due to the current conservative government having an ear-shot of larger, right leaning media companies (i.e.: News Corp), whom own Sky News Australia and a majority of Australia's Tabloid Newspapers. Many of the news providers use post taken from Facebook's platform to whip up spin and hysteria in major news cycles, and people either buy it, or it further disillusions them from the content. Just look elsewhere.... Why give in to Daddy Murdoch or Facebook? They both don't care about what they host on their platforms. Hi! I have owned a gaming rig for about 2 years (yet I still consider myself new to the industry). With regards to setting it up, I asked my friend for advice and ended up with what he considered 'medium-end' PC due to both my budget, and needs. Just a few notes: - the SilverStone 650 power supply became out of stock, so I went with the 750W Bronze Fully Modular. - It was assembled by the store (because I had no clue how to, but in time, I should be able to give it a shot on upgrading it on my own) - My budget at that time was only about $2000+ I've been thinking of making an upgrade. I am hoping to stick in with the budget, but am able to adjust if necessary to accommodate the programs/games I would like to run. Again, I know only so much, so if I am overestimating/underestimating my budget somewhere, please let me know. Budget (including currency): $AUD 5,000-7,000 Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly single player games that could be graphics intensive (Cyberpunk, Horizon Forbidden West, Destiny 2, Star Wars: Fallen Order). Other games are, Cities: Skylines (I've been told that this is more hungry for CPU power than GPU power, so wish to consider something that will make the game run smoothly if I ever build an extremely large city), SWAT 4, GTA Series. I may even touch COD here and there, but honestly, I could just play them on the Playstation. I also stream every now and then, incl. doing some light video editing at 1080p. Programs provided by my work to work from home, but I believe they won't do jack to the current build and is enough. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I bought my stuff from our computer retail here in Sydney called mWave https://www.mwave.com.au/. I see a sale of an RTX 3060, 3070 and 3080 every now and then, but my friend believes I do not need such insanely high powered GPUs for my need, but it would be smart to have that, just to keep up with the market for any future games. He said the time will come where the GTX 1660 will just run the new game of 2025 like s***, while if you have a higher GPU from the get go, it should still fight. Honestly, I have seen some of my games struggling (Cyberpunk is definitely a culprit), and CPU-hungry games like Cities Skylines - I haven't even come close to building a large city and the frames drop substantially. Please let me know if any other additional details are required. If I do remember something, I may just add extra info as a reply or at the bottom of my post. Thanks in advance!

Budget (including currency): $500-$1,000(AUD) Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Video games(1440p, 140hz), mostly play MMO's and first person shooters. Linked is my current viable parts: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/JYstZZ I need to replace my current ram, motherboard, CPU and cooler. I had one of my ram sticks fail so I've been living with 12 Gb's of ram for a while which hasn't been ideal, I also damaged said ram slot removing the damaged stick hence the need to replace the motherboard, I figure if I'm going to be replacing the motherboard I may as well upgrade my CPU at the same time, I would prefer Intel just because I would safer with a brand I brand I'm already familiar with. Mostly just need some advice on what parts to pick up, I sincerely appreciate any and all advice you can provide.

Summary Last week, the Australian Parliament passed the Surveillance Legislation Amendment (Identify and Disrupt) Bill 2020, rushing the bill through in only 24 hours. This revision to the Australian government's data surveillance laws allows law enforcement to modify, add to, copy, or delete data of anyone, so long as they are a suspect in an investigation, as well as quietly taking control over the person's online accounts. In addition, it compels Australian businesses, sysadmins, etc. to comply with any such requests, who could face up to 10 years imprisonment if they fail to do so. While these new powers do require a warrant to use in most cases, the warrants are not issued by judges; additionally, there is an "emergency authorization" procedure that allows these requests to be executed without any warrant at all. Quotes My thoughts Everything about this law screams 'bad idea', especially since the parliament went to the trouble of rushing it through in only 24 hours. The warrants required to execute the powers of this law can be authorized outside of the judicial system, and can be circumvented altogether by an "emergency authorization". I see almost no way that bad actors won't take advantage of these powers: they would enable the destruction or planting of evidence, as well as the ability to stalk someone at a level impossible in much of the world. The powers afforded by this law are far too broad and have nowhere near enough checks on them. Budget (including currency): ≈ $1500 AUD Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: This PC will be used to play AAA games such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider, GTA 5 and The Witcher 3 and many more games. The PC will also be usedd to complete school work using Autodesk Fusion 360 and Adobe Photoshop, Animate and Premire. Other details My friend is looking for a easy and affordable upgrade path for the future. (Not buying a new PSU or Motherboard) He already has a avalable Windows 10 pro activation code so it is not required in the parts list. Hello, I have been tasked to build a friend a PC for $1500 AUD and I was wondering if this is a solid build for long term usage. He plays a variety of different games that heavly use both CPU and GPU and he would prefer a Intel core but wouldnt mind having a AMD core. He requires a Nvidia GPU that has 4GB of dedicated vram and a minimum of 16GB of 3200mhz CL18 Ram with a PSU that is at least 80+Gold efficency and a ATX motherboard and ATX mid case. The temps at idle must be around 20C-45C and under full load must not exeed 85C-90C with the cpu cooler's noise been lower than 26dB. Anything RGB and extra fan cases are optional. Any help or suggestions for the build would be much appreciated. Thanks! - PC I designed for $1537 AUD https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Schnitz31/saved/#view=HjWdHx

hello there, i am in search of a new laptop that is around $1500 AUD and has at least an i7-10750h and an GTX 1650-ti (1660-ti preferable) and needs to be appropriate for school. Apprpriate meaning the laptop not screaming GAMING! and also being silent when working and browsing the internet like using Microsoft Word and Google Chrome. I also would prefer backlit keys as i tend to work in the dark during study. This will be my only laptop for school and would also like to play a few games when at a mates house like COD: Modern Warfare, CSGO, Minecraft and perhaps Battlefield 1. I have a beast of a desktop already so this laptop won't be my main gaming rig, my desktop atm has an i7-8700k and a RTX 2060 Super which will be upgraded to a RTX 3080 (if it comes in stock) or the RTX 3070 (if not RTX 3080s come in stock soon). Only laptop that apeals to me is the Alpha S from Metabox, which right now still has Black Friday sales which with the configuration i currently like im saving $1000 AUD inc GST. But i would rather a brand that everyone knows like Asus, MSI, Dell and more. i would appreciate any laptop recconmendations. The specs for the Metabox Alpha S will be below: Intel Core i7-10750H 6-Core (12M Cache up to 5.00 GHz) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650Ti 4GB GDDR6 VRAM 15.6" FHD 1920 x 1080 IPS-Grade Edge-to-Edge Matte 144Hz LED 16GB DDR4 2666MHZ (2 x 8GB) Kingston A2000 1TB PCIe NVME M.2 SSD Intel 9462 AC Dual Band WIFI & Bluetooth 5.1 (up to 433 Mbps) 2 Year Metabox Premium Care Return To Base Protection Total without savings: $2,497.00 AUD inc GST Total with savings: $1,447.00 AUD inc GST Shipping: $32 AUD

Hello, I'm in Australia and would like some suggestions as to whether I should get the Rx 7900 XTX or RTX 4070 Ti. I won't be using Ray Tracing. I'm using it for 1080p gaming but I would like to maintain above 240 FPS. I would also like to future proof for 1080p, the most demanding game I currently play is COD MW 2. The cheapest 4070 Ti right now is going for $1299 AUD and is a Galax card. While the cheapest AIB Rx 7900 XTX is the Powercolor Red Devil ($1929 AUD) Here are the Pcpartpicker pricing: Rtx 4070 Ti: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#c=549&sort=price&page=1 Rx 7900 XTX: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#sort=price&c=548

AU health insurance provider, 9.7 million affected?
Quackers101 posted a topic in General Discussion
Summary From what Medibank from australia saw as "baseless claims" or threats, before the hackers gave out personal information and that they were serious. It's unsure how they got it? and a lot of personal + gov ID, medical information and so on. Maybe no credit information stolen. Quotes My thoughts lol, another one. Budget (including currency): $200-$300 AUD (give or take) Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: BeamNG.drive, Assetto Corsa, Minecraft, Euro/American Truck Sim, Race Room Racing Experience, NASCAR Heat 5, Tony Stewarts Sprintcar Racing/All American Racing, World of Outlaws 2002, Dirt track racing 2, screen recording, video editing (although i manage to cope on my school laptop, 4gb of ram, intel celeron and integrated graphics). Other details I am going to buy and $80 AUD pc from the tip shop (all working). It is a HP office computer with and Intel Core i5 4670 at 3.4 GHZ , 8 GB of ram (I'm guessing DDR3 but I don't know), 500 GB HDD (I will upgrade this too) and it has Windows 10 pro pre-installed. I will upgrade this eventually but I need a graphics card first and my birthday is coming up and my parents don't know what to get me. I am looking at an RTX 3050 but I reckon I'll be CPU bottle-necked. I do want to get a good one that is cheap as I will upgrade the CPU eventually. I don't have a lot of money so please don't suggest I just buy brand new parts and build one myself, I just can't afford it. There are a few computers here but this one is the best, the CPU is more advanced. The one on the far right on the top is the one I'm looking at.
