  1. Hello, I'm totally new here so sorry if I did anything wrong lol, but I'm needing some help as I'm setting up my first pc right now and figured this would be the best place to go! Now I'm not really wanting to build a pc right now, I'm just wanting to buy a prebuilt one, and don't like the super "out there" look that most gaming pc's have, and I've narrowed it down to 2 that I like, and wanted suggestions as to which would be better. I'll like them here: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/game-desktops/aurora-r8/spd/alienware-aurora-r8-desktop https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/desktop-computers/xps-desktop-special-edition/spd/xps-8930-se-desktop Is one particularly better or would it not make a difference either way? I'm not too concerned with price, and it would cost roughly the same for the same configuration, so that's not a concern. I'm just curious if either if better in any way. I'll be using it to play a decent amount of gaming, nothing competitive or anything like that, but I would like to be able to play games in 1440p at like 60fps, it's fine if it dips a bit below that framerate. I'm a pretty casual gamer so I don't need like 120fps or anything, but I do want the best graphics I can get (1440p) without having like 20fps lol. With that being said, i'm considering going with either an 15 9600k or an i7 9700k, either 8gb or 16gb of ram, and 1tb ssd, and an RTX 2060 super. Would these specs be sufficient to handle what I'm going for, 1440p@60fps? And is it necessary to bump up to the i7 and 16gb ram, or would the i5 and 8gb be sufficient for what i'm going for? Cause I obviously don't wanna waste extra money if i'll get no benefit from it. Thank you for any help you can give!
  2. Hey there! So before I start off - I know that there seem to be a lot of Alienware/Prebuilt-haters out there but give me a break. I'm not looking for people to tell me how garbage their systems are or whatever, and how much easier/cheaper building a system myself would be. I've heard your arguments, and I am willing to give it a try nonetheless, so please spare me with that. Anyways, right now I am thinking about buying a used Alienware Aurora R4 ALX on eBay (i7 3930K, 16GB of Dominator Platinum RAM, 256GB SSD Samsung Pro 840/1 TB HDD, Win10 Pro) for 800€ and then, since the GPU isn't included, buy something like a GTX 1070. I mean for around 1250€ I'd get a Watercooled HexCore, 16GB of RAM, an SSD, a GTX 1070 and an extremely awesome looking case. I'd mostly game on it and probably do some recording in the future. I know that the CPU is 'only' IvyBridge-E, but even so it's still a six-core running at a 4.0Ghz overclock and paired with a 1070 that should give me an extremely satisfactory gaming experience right? But here's my question - do you guys think that this is a good deal? To me, it seems pretty solid, keeping in mind the really awesome case and all. Now obviously, upgrading the motherboard is, let's just say, "tricky" but there have been people that managed to do it, so if at some point in the future I really feel the need to upgrade the platform I'd be willing to give it a shot.
  3. Anyone else anxiously awaiting them to start selling this stuff to the public? I'm basically sitting on The edge of my seat. I have a buddy who got a couple bottles, but he used one and a half and he can't get any more. From what I can tell so far it seems to pretty much be an equivalent of Aurora that is okay to run regularly. Would love to know when the release date is.
  4. Hi everyone, This is my very first post here at LTT. It would be great if you could give me some advice, or slap me in the face and wake me up from the dream of buying an Alienware Aurora. I am looking at an Aurora R8 from Dell website. It could be customized to i7 9700k CPU, Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti GPU, 32 GB RAM and 1TB SSD. It costs about $2200 USD before tax. It looks like a pretty good deal to me. I am tempted to buy that mostly because I want something faster, cooler and quieter than my current MacBook Pro 2017 to run my python scripts, edit photos on Lightroom and Photoshop and do other random things. I am not a game player at all, but I do love programming. I've only played Diablo III on my MBP and it is hot and loud AF. I want to use the 2080 Ti mostly to see how good it is for GPU acceleration. So my major question is whether the Aurora is a good computer for general use other than gaming. Before posting this, I quickly searched the posts here and found that the Aurora case was not well designed for cooling. I am wondering how bad it could be in terms of noise and thermal issues. Someone suggested to upgrade the case after the warrenty expires. Does Alienware Aurora have a good motherboard as well? Also, I saw rumors saying that Intel would finally launch their 10nm processors during this holiday season, and I would like to know whether it is somehting worth waiting to upgrade the new processor. Any other Alienware related tip is also very much appreciated. BTW, in case anyone is interested in an Alienware desktop, there is a pretty decent sale on Dell website. One Aurora model has $580 off, plus 17% off Intel game day offer and $200 visa prepaid card offer. This is my first time buying a desktop, and it seems very exciting to me. Check that out if you are interested. Thank you everyone!
  5. https://www.anandtech.com/show/14358/hewlett-packard-enterprise-to-acquire-cray-for-13-billion https://www.hpe.com/us/en/newsroom/press-release/2019/05/hpe-to-acquire-supercomputing-leader-cray.html So it looks like HPE wants to pull its big boy pants back up after having lots of crazy ideas and technologies not really go anywhere. I think this acquisition makes sense just because of that. HPE invents or helps invent so many HPC technologies but I never seem to hear about them getting past concept or if they do, just failing at getting market traction. With Cray in it's portfolio, HPE can roll out those technologies in the best case scenarios. HPE will now get to claim the 2 fastest supercomputers in the world. I thought the purchase price of 1.3B was low, only about a $5 premium/share and the shares have now risen slightly above what HP is paying. I'm honestly kind of surprised one of the only two major US supercomputer vendors (IBM) was valued at so relatively little but hey there you go. HPE has so much money they are just gonna pay it out in cash Interesting timeline I stole from some guy on reddit: (SGI being Silicon Graphics, a former supercomputer and graphics house that was responsible for the N64 and Nvidia existing)
  6. Heyho! Simple question, probably complicated answer: Is there a way to connect the Alphacool Aurora System with the Asus Aura System? Got an Asus Mobo with both the regular and the adressable LED's and I would like to simply have the regular LED's in sync with my Alphacool Aurora System. Any way? Even getto? Or no-go?
  7. Hey guyz Sorry for my bad english I have an Alienware aurora r2 which is running i7 975 4 cores 8 thread extreme edition processor.. i wanted to know that does it support a 6 core xeon processors? Because they are quiet cheap And can give a little bit more performance to me.. i didn't find any information on this .. so did anyone tried putting a 6 core xeon in an aurora r2?
  8. So the wife actually gave the "stamp of approval" to build rainbow dash lit gaming/light video editing rig. She's a PR Director and spends a good bit of time at work doing video editing for new YouTube and Facebook videos for her company, and wanted something competent to use when she has to work from home. I, well I've just wanted a gaming rig for a long time anyways. But I've come across a dilemma: pre-builds aren't ridiculously overpriced anymore. To give you an idea, I've already chose the base hardware I want to go with: Core i5-8600k 16GB DDR4 RAM (I'll upgrade later, for now 16GB is sufficient for my wife's 1080p videos) nVidia GeForce GTX 1080 8GB 1TB SSD (I like Crucial or Samsung) So when I first priced this out, going with an ATX ASUS ROG motherboard and a few minor options, I was at $1800 without an OS. I thought "Eh, that sounds about right." The other day I see an advert for Dell's new Alienware Aurora Mid towers with the new Coffee Lake CPUs. I figured it wouldn't hurt to check them out, see how much money I was saving by building it myself. That's when I realized I was wrong. My same basic build, (slight change, I changed the SSD to a 32GB Intel Optane + 1TB HDD) was actually 200 US dollars less, and included Windows 10 Pro (the final price was $1659.99). So the main dilemma of this post: Should I save money and get a pre-built, and stay in the warm, cozy blanket of a manufacturer warranty, or do I enjoy the pleasure of building my own system and shelling out more money that I could be spending on games? Or am I just building it wrong? Side note: here's the permalink to the PCPartPicker list, so you can have a full list to compare to: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nRGvTH, also wouldn't mind seeing in the future a LTT review of Alienware's Aurora machine. The Area 51 is pretty cool, but the Aurora is the one most people can actually afford. And yea, I left the peripherals out because I'm still researching them.
  9. I have decided to document my restoration of this machine for anyone who might be interested. This is going to be a learning experience for myself, as I've never lifted a Swiss Army Knife (that hopefully has a Phillips head screwdriver) in anger to anything with so many proprietary parts. The back story I've recently built myself a new Ryzen system, it's 90% complete, just aesthetics to finish. I was then itching to do another build, but couldn't justify spending the money for the sake of doing a build. Then up pops this very sad looking machine on ebay. Advertised as "Alienware aurora r4 gaming pc" "Spares or repairs The computer powers on but doesnt show on the screen. I bought this to play games on but stuck to consoles mostly and when I've come back to try and use it again I've been having this problem." I felt an urge to rescue it. I put in what I thought was a reasonable offer, which was accepted.
  10. So... I'm leaning towards the pastel ice white as it matches and just looks slick. On the other hand, the aurora I'm experimenting with looks pretty cool, you get to actually see it flowing. I dont need to be told about it's dangers too, I've monitored it and it's running well and if it clogs I can clean the system. I would have to change my cables to a black or maybe silver type to match the aurora better. So... Pastel White, or Aurora silver what do you guys think (the don't make supernova white aurora anymore) Also I'm talking to mayhems about mixing the aurora booster into the ice white pastel for a small aurora affect with the pastel white to make a sort of supernova white What do you guys think? ********* Update *************** I went with the Pastel Ice White, it just looks so dang perfect with it verses just the "Cool" looking silver. Turned out to work good too, I won the facebook High Performance PC Gaming rig of the month for may, got a decent 50 bucks for it. Thanks for voting on the coolant guys! ********** Aurora 2 Silver ****************** ********** Pastel Ice White ****************
  11. Got a coupon in my email for $5 off for upgrading the Aurora to the 300i. I don't plan to use it. Not sure if I should just post it, or wait to see if anyone even actually wants it. If anyone wants it, let me know and I will message it to you. First come first served. *************** I have given out the code.
  12. Hey guys and gals, I have a pretty out-there question about a water cooling loop I want to try out. It's actually not a true cooling loop, as it isn't cooling anything! It'll be a pump, a reservoir, and a butt-load of tubing. I want to have this set up on my wall and string the tubing in all sorts of designs. Figured I'd use 5/8"od--1/2"id clear plastic tubing. Then, I want to run some of the Aurora fluid through the loop continuously. I'd expect it to last about 3 yrs before something could be expected to need maintenance, but I know that getting into it. Does anyone have experience doing anything nuts like this? How should I gauge what strength pump and size res to use?? Thanks in advance for your help.
  13. Hey everybody, My Alienware Aurora R3 keeps crashing constantly, and I have taken it to Geek Squad at Best Buy 3-4 times and they think it's a hard drive issue, but I looked on the Dell forum, and they say it's a RAM issue. Help! Crash Information: Freezes, sometimes blue screen continuous 2 beeps after crashing Thanks! Jake
  14. Hey guys, I'm about to get my first ship and I would like to get the Aurora 2944 Legionnaire, do I have to buy the Aurora LN first and after pay that 10$ to get the Legionnaire? If you have other ships to suggest me under 80$ let me know. Thanks in advance!

My friend has a Alienware aurora and wants to install an ssd into its hotswaps, but the recommended way to do it is with an ssd cage like the ones from ICY DOCK, but where we live in Sweden they're real hard to come by. So my question as described in topic is it possible to install it without the cage using Velcro or something (don't have either the system or an ssd on hand and can therefore not test it) Thanks

  17. Hello! I created time-lapse about Aurora Borealis which I watched between 17th and 18th of March 2015. I would say, that it is quite amazing, because we have not seen this powerful aurora in a long time. Enjoy! 18. NCIX: N/A Amazon: http://georiot.co/2cwm We've never looked at a home & small office security system before, so this was a bit of a new adventure for us. I don't know how great it is compared to the competition, but it seems like a pretty good value for what we paid and we're definitely going to be using it.
  19. Hi !!! First of all let me warn you that my english is not that good so if i write something in the wrong other or with some error don't mind it. Now I have a pc with the following specs: i5-4670k maximus vi gene gtx 760 8 Gb Corsair vengeance ram WD Caviar blue 1 Tb 120 GB Samsung evo ssd Corsair cx 600 Coolermaster cm storm scout 2 advanced I planning to put this hardware into a desk and watercool my gpu and my cpu. This are some pictures of my plans (I used skecth up to make the model): The holes in the back are for 120mm fans (most likely Corsair's AF 120) that will bring the air in and the Radiator on the left that will drag the air out. The cables will be hidden in the little compartement under all of the other componentes. The watercooling parts that I plan to use are: Alphacool NexXxoS XT45 Full Copper 360 mm Alphacool VPP655 - G1/4 IG incl. Attachment (Acetal ersion) Alphacool Cape Corp Cooplex Pro 25 LT Ek Supremacy Ek FC670 GTX DCII - Acetal+Mickel PETG clear tubing primochill ghost compression fittings As his is my first watercooling build I would like to know your opinion about the parts that I choose and if the air flow on the desk is good or if it needs some changes. I want to iluminate my system too, but i don't know if should go with normal lighting (that would most likely be red) or if should go with UV lighting (blue or green). In case of the normal light i'm leaning to the mayhems aurora 2 tharis red, is that a good coolant? In case of the UV lights if i use mayhems aurora coolant + UV dye would it give the auroras effect and react to the UV light? Any other opinion is also appreciated. Thanks!!
  20. While using youtube, I am sometimes told that I'm signed out, and upon clicking sign in, I'm redirected to http://www.youtube.com/signin?action_prompt_identity=true where it asks me whether I want to use YouTube as "insert real name that they tricked me to enter somewhere" or as "insert the name that I use on youtube". If I click the youtube name, it works fine, but will sign me out again after a day or two (it's been getting more and more frequent), but if I click my real name I no longer have any subscriptions or anything like that. I am signed out on the top bar on youtube if I don't click sign in. There's nothing wrong with my cookies, and it's even happening (randomly) in the same session (without closing the browser) twice. I'm using Firefox/Aurora 28.0a2 (there's an update pending) but it's been like this for several firefox releases, since Google+ started it's murderous rampage. If anyone can suggest a way to stop it (I'm open to loads of suggestions because I don't upload on that channel), I would be very grateful because it's getting more and more annoying.
  21. My pledge level gives me access the ship Aurora and an upgrade just became available for it. The upgrade is for the Legionnaire variant of the Aurora. I don't know enough about Star Citizen to know if the $10.00 upgrade will be worth it. If any of you know specific benefits of it or just have an opinion about it, please let me know
  22. Step 1) Go to https://www.abine.com/maskme/ and click 'Free Download' - keep in mind that's currently in Beta Step 2) The browser of your choice (Chrome, Firefox, Aurora, Waterfox, Pale Moon, etc) will ask if you want to add the plugin/extension. Click 'Add' Step 3) A new tab will open and ask you if you want to 'Sign In' or 'Create Account' - Assuming you do not have an account, fill out the required fields. Step 4) After creating an account, you have the option of trying out the plugin on a few sample sites, reading the FAQ section, or signing up for Premium. Step 5A) Click on the sample site 'New York Times' - click the field for 'E-mail address' and a little box will appear with two options: you can mask your e-mail using a forwarding service, or use your own e-mail. In the 'Password' field, the little box will appear again, asking you if you want to create a strong password (it comes with more options, too). Step 5B) The forwarding service will look like this: the site you're signing up for will see your address as something random, like 3637ff1d@opayq.com, but this address forwards to your actual e-mail account (the one you signed up with). You can enable and disable forwarding accordingly. Step 5C) The little green icon on the right side of your address bar is the 'home' of the plugin, which shows you masked e-mails, phones, credit cards, passwords, and a list of accounts. Assuming you didn't sign up for Premium, the phone and credit card options will be greyed out. HOWEVER, click on either one and change your plan to 'MaskMe Online' - it's free of charge, and you get Online Backup & Access. Step 6) You're done! Just be careful as always with accounts and passwords, and you should be fine. :) ----------- I personally use this on sites I don't particularly trust with my information and it has worked well in that regard. This may seem easy and straight-forward for some people, but others are not as knowledgeable when it comes to online privacy, such as young teens or older adults. Please note that this is not an attempt at advertising, but rather a short explanation of how to begin using the service and what it has to offer. Safe browsing!
