Hi everyone, So I just got asus strix 1080 ti OC 11gb and I was working to get the 2050 mhz that most people seem to be able to hit pretty easily, but while I was running furmark I was only able to push 0.9001v through my card and in the thing that denotes the limiting factor said power was my limiting factor. To note, in gpu tweak II i have the voltage target set to max (120%) and the GPU voltage % also set to max. I have two 6+2 pin power connectors powering the card. Cables are the ones from the psu box. Runs cool as a cucumber at 55C with fans at 44%. I'm using a EVGA 750 BQ 110-BQ-0750-V1 80+ BRONZE 750W that a guy at micro center said would be enough to power my system. Also when i checked my system in a power calculator it said i would only need 550w under load. Is power really my limiting factor here? Hi there, I'm totally new to hardware. I’m currently building my first PC which I will be using for work in 3D animation/dynamics/GPU rendering/large scale photo editing/VFX. This will be a work machine only - no gaming. Here is the software i use: Cinema 4D - Octane renderer - Redshift renderer Side FX Houdini After Effects Premiere Photoshop I am aware that flaunting very expensive PC Part Picker lists for the sake of it is a thing on these forums but this is not the case here. This build is built with future expansion in mind, I want to be adding to it if I need something in the future rather than buying from scratch. The components have been picked by looking at various sources from the net and even though I think I have filtered well through the hype-word marketing shit-storm of the hardware world, still, at times I’ve gone for a faster of model of this or faster model of that and even gone for a familiar brand name just to be on the safe side, purely because I don’t know these things and want to be getting value for money. Could you please point out anything wrong that you see - conflicting components, potential bottlenecks, any parts where I can save money, and any other suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated! If anyone has built their PC with some of these parts and can advise on potential pitfalls during the build; 'you need this cable or this extra part' etc this will also be helpful as I will be building it on my own and have never done so before. ASUS X99-E WS USB 3.1 Has 40PCI lanes with x16 on each. Looks great for future expansion. Intel i7-6850K 6 core is enough as all renderers are moving to GPU rendering and in general, in animation, single core performance is valued over how many cores + Allows up to 40pci lanes also allows 128GB RAM for future expansion. I know AMD are bringing new ones out but I’m not interested in them. ASUS STRIX 1080 Ti (x2) Just like the FE but has fans which will keep it cool so no additional GPU cooling needed in this case. Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB DDR4 RAM 2400Mhz Trusted brand. Not the fastest out there but CPU can’t support more than 2400. Kraken X62 AIO Seems to have the best reviews and said to be quiet. 1TB M.2 SSD Some of the software I use caches to memory and by default it will go to the SSD, hence the 1TB. I know I can manually tell it to cache to the HDD but there times when you don't want it to do this. WD Red 2TB HDD (x2, one for back-up) Have a WD already and I’m happy with it, also RED are meant to be very quiet + Back up drive is important, as these will be work related files. Optical Drive They all look the same, any specific recommendations or things to look for? Wireless Card The motherboard doesn’t have WI-FI. All cards seem to be the same but any recommendations? Windows 10 Home? Pro? Which one do I need? Corsair 1200W PSU 1200 Overkill? I bought an ASUS Strix OC 1080TI about a year ago, but I’ve only just noticed that when my windows PC is at idle with no programs open, the GPU temperature is always at 54ºc. Now, the GPU fans are off up until about this temperature, which is obviously why the temperature reaches this high in the first place. Note I haven't overlocked my GPU at all. It’s all stock out of the box. Also my case cooling is very good with 5 Noctua fans creating a positive pressure environment to prevent dust build-up. However the problem is, that when the GPU fans kick in, the GPU temperature obviously goes back below the GPU temperature threshold and thus the GPU fans turn off. Then the GPU temperature rises above the threshold and the fans turn on again, and this is repeated resulting in the fans constantly turning on and off every 5 seconds, which is annoying. Now I’ve been doing some reading regarding this, and some people say to change hysteresis setting in MSI Afterburner, which I set to 5ºc with a fan speed update period of 5 seconds. However all this does; is that my GPU temperature will reach 54 / 55ºc as normal the GPU fans will kick in and cool the GPU -5ºc then the fans will turn off. The GPU temperature will then go back up + 5ºc and the fans will kick in again and again the cycle repeats. The only difference this time is that rather than the fans turning on and off every 5 seconds it occurs about every minute which is an improvement, but the problem still persists. I’ve also tried setting the power mode in the Nvidia control panel to adaptive with no difference. The only thing that seems to work is to set a custom fan curve where the fans run at 20% up until 50ºc, but the GPU fans need to be on all the time. This does solve the issue but I’m after silent operation for when I’m not gaming. Actual question if you don't want to read all of the above: A lot of other people have said that the previous generation ASUS strix cards never reached 50ºc at idle even with no GPU fans on at all, so I can’t understand why my 1080ti reaches 54ºc at idle with no GPU fans. Is this a design flaw from ASUS for the 10 series cards? Because this high idle GPU temperature is what is causing the issue above. Some people have said that running 1440p 144hz monitors can cause high GPU usage even at idle, which I have two of that also have G-Sync compatible free sync enabled at all times. But I doubt this is the case.

Hi there, I’ve recently tried to overclock my ASUS Strix 1080TI (OC Version) and I’ve managed to get an overclock on the GPU boost with +50 MHz and a memory boost of +400 MHz using ASUS GPU Tweak 2. Below are the settings I used based on this guide: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?93536-Strix-1080Ti-Overclocking-Guide as it recommends to increase the voltage to +100 and the power target to +120. GPU Boost Clock: + 50 GPU Voltage %: + 100 Memory clock: + 400 Power Target %: + 20 (to reach 120%) The issue is, this doesn’t appear to be a very high overlock with +50 MHz on the GPU boost, but I can’t go any higher without crashing. I’ve seen some people reach up to 100 MHz and beyond on the same card. I don’t know if I'm doing something wrong or is it simply the case of getting unlucky on the silicon lottery? The other thing is, even with this +50 MHz overlock, there doesn’t appear to be any performance gain at all on my games. I recorded pretty much the same FPS values before and after the overlock using built in benchmarks for various games. Could this zero performance gain be because the overlock is so small that it has no impact on FPS? Or could it be that GPU Tweak 2 is buggy and not actually applying the settings even though I can see the GPU clock reach a higher value than the default clock on HW-Monitor? Should I try another program like MSI afterburner? Or could it be something else?
