Hello, I am having trouble w my monitor (probably?) System Config: i7 5960x @4,5 Ghz (stable) Msi X99 Godlike Gaming Carbon 24 GB GSkill DDR4 Memory (GVK) RTX 3070 msi ventus 3x 1200w bequiet! PSU SSD 1: Transccend 256 GB (boot drive) SSD 2: KingDian 240 GB SSD 3: Cucial MX 2000 GB Timeline of the problems: It used to be that i had a 650w corsair psu. Everything was working perfectly well (cpu and gpu were stable, monitor @165 hz) , even under the heaviest load i could hit it with, so eventhough i was wary abt the possible psu problems, as everything ran fine i didnt think too much abt it. I decide to install some rgb leds in my room. they are plugged into the same power splitter my psu is plugged in as well (i moved recently, so i reinstalled the leds, before the move, i had the exact same config with them = plugged into the same power splitter). I explicitly mention this, as when my pc posted and booted, but i had no display input, the early forum posts i looked up mentioned power issues when blackscreening after bios. So I thought to myself: Upgrade the PSU then, the leds maybe somehow made it so that the maybe already fragile power supply to the cpu and gpu was too much so no display output (obv i tried reseating the dp cable on the gpu and monitor, disconnected and reconnected the gpu and all other troubleshooting steps that one would normally do at this point). I know the led thing sounds weird and it does, but this is the only thing that makes sense to me. So I install a new psu. Same problem. I reseat the GPU again. DIsplay output this time (!?). Yay! Only low res tho and when I try updating the drivers (which i read on some forum could be the problem) I go to black screen again. I should at this point mention that i did also test the monitor and it works fine w other computers, so it cannot be the problem, right? Also when I say blackscreen I refer to the OSD of the monitor telling me that there is no input detected. So I search the webs some more and find this forum thread: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/monitor-loses-signal-upon-booting-windows.2585702/ I do as this one helpful person suggests and boot into safe mode, and follow the steps outlined by him. Next try: boot and i dont lose display within a few minutes! I am also able to set my res to 2560 x 1440, though it only runs at 85hz. I try everything in the system panels, through the nvidia control pannel etc. I also figure, maybe the monitor is the problem so i reset it via the OSD. Now everything runs at 60 hz! When i select 144hz in the control pannel, nothing changes, its still 59 hz (going off the monitor osd), so i go to display settings and change the refresh rate there. No signal. Reset, login screen greets me w low res, that i have to change to regular res everytime i boot into windows in the display settings (presumably because of the fix of the guy in the forum?). And now I am here. I fear that if i revert the boot option that the forum guy suggested i will no longer be able to boot into windows tho it likely causes some of the display problems. At the same time, I cannot really go back as I cannot fix the no display after boot error. The weird thing is that everything worked fine before, why did it have to break?? Drivers are all up to date, i troubleshooted everything I could hardware-wise is there some weird software thing idk abt? I dont understand. I have had my fair share of computer problems and random bs over the years and I know how and what to troubleshoot. But in this case i am done with my latin (as we say in germany, meaning not knowing any more solutions and havinge exausted ones expertise and knowledge) I dont know what the problem is and I dont know how to fix it. It would be very nice if you guys could help me Here are the forum threads I referred to/read: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/pc-boots-up-but-no-display-on-monitor.3016471/ https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/a2-error-msi-again.2232459/ (i had this problem too, but i could easily fix that though it is weird that this problem showed up both before and after the psu chage) https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/black-screen-or-no-signal-after-bios-splash-screen.3097226/ https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/monitor-loses-signal-upon-booting-windows.2585702/ https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/discover/219339/monitor-losing-signal-after-windows-bios-logo-/ https://de.ifixit.com/Antworten/Ansehen/206319/Monitor+no+signal+after+start+up https://ccm.net/faq/9066-laptop-screen-won-t-turn-on

So i'm looking into buying a GTX 1070 and I need a monitor to pair it with. Currently, I've been gaming on a 60hz monitor and I'm a ready to feel that 144hz goodness. My only hesitation between the Dell S2417DG and the ASUS PG279Q is that the Dell is a tn panel. My current monitor is a IPS and I'm not sure if I could go back. Price vs IPS Do I take the cheaper monitor and lose out on IPS or should I pay the higher price for the IPS? If somebody who has either monitor or just knows enough about the two of them could give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. My main question is simply if the Dell TN panel is that atrocious that I should pony up the money for the more expensive ASUS monitor?

Hello everyone, i wanted to create this topic in order to exchange some information on Asus PG279Q latest release manufacture dates. Lets say that i am buying this panel now (for instance from Amazon in Germany) somewhere in januar 2017 which release date of the panel will i get? I understand that everything depends on the reseller, but lets suppose in general. What is the latest one? My friend bought one in August 2016 and he got a panel manufactured in May 2016. He had this funny firmware issue with the vertical lines. But according to Asus official website, this firmware issue was resolved and the latest panels manufactured after June 2016 dont suffer from this problem anymore. Does anyone have this panel with manufacture date after June 2016? Please be welcome to share here the manufacture date of your pg279q, to approximately distinguish the latest release of this panel. Thanks in advance

Hello Linustechtips community! I need your help again, but this time for choosing the right gaming monitor for myself. Without much talking or writing straight to the question. As the title says i am trying to figure out if g-sync technology really benefits the gaming performance, or is it just another gimmick from the manufacturers to make more money from folks like me. A couple of months ago i had the opportunity to try Asus PG279Q, but unfortunately due to BLB and some funny lines in the middle of the display i had to return it to the shop. Dont get me wrong it is a good monitor but for this amount of money i would like to have a monitor which wont throw me some funny lines on the edge and the middle of the screen. I am using gtx 1080 and thats why i was searching for a g-sync 1440p 144hz gaming panel (i believe it was a good match to my gpu), but today all of a sudden i came across this panel BenQ XL2735 which neither supports G-Sync or Free-Sync. I read a couple of reviews and found out that people remained generally very satisfied with it, regardless of the gpus they were using AMD or Nvidia. So I am wondering, is gsync just another marketing trick? Will vsync do just fine until something really revolutionair comes out, or there is a weighty difference between vsync vs gsync vs nosync and once i have Nvidia gpu i would better stick to gsync? Thanks a lot in advance. Any advices are very appreciated (links of reviews, videos, or just personal opinion)

Hi all! I've got the money to upgrade to one of these monitors which will replace my Dell U3014. I do gaming and photo-editing so I need an IPS panel and I want the 144hz refresh rate. I've been over-reading so many things and TrustedReviews says that the Acer and Asus have a similar sRGB coverage (around 96.5%). TFTCentral would've been another great source but unfortunately they don't have a review for the Acer. The Acer is cheaper by $100 in my country so it's more appealing to me than the Asus. I picked up this Amazon review saying that the Acer slightly washes its color away to hide the BLB unlike the Asus. They use the same panel after all and the companies are just trying to come up with tricks to outdo each other. I get that. I expect monitors in this price range to be perfect and have better sRGB coverage than my current Dell U3014 (yes I know it's made for Adobe RGB). However, these nitpicky things are turning me off... should I wait until OLED (???) or some weird but more effective tech hits the mainstream or just get a monitor now and be happy for 3 or so years? Thanks! Hello there, I've recently aquired a used monitor Asus pg279q. It's almost in a great shape. It's out of warranty but the previous owner agreed to take the monitor back (I had him sign a contract that he would take back the monitor if it had any hidden defects.) Now, the problem that I have is that the first time I plugged it in (2 days ago) after cca 10 minutes only about a 1 third of the screen was lit. I tried playing with the settings both on the monitor and in Windows and changing the resolution actually helped. I guess magic. (maybe the actual refresh of the screen helps when you change the resolution) The monitor continued to work well but then the next day it went dim again. And changing the resolution would only work for like a second when it would light up as it's supposed to and then dim again. I tried it like a dozen times changing resolution and Hz with 1920x1080 setting it right. After 10 minutes I set it back to the full resolution - 2560x1440 144Hz and since then it works just fine with no hiccups. New monitor in my country costs 800usd and I bought this one for 250usd which is an excellent deal in my mind for a working monitor of this caliber. Now what to do? Is it a big technical problem meaning that it's gonna come back and only get worse? Can you help me understand what might cause the problem? Should I simply get rid of it ASAP? Or is it a cheap fix? I have up until next week to return the monitor. For connection I only used DisplayPort. There were no new drivers installed since plugging this monitor in. Everything is the same. I have an EVGA 1060 6GB ssc, Please help me LTT Forum, you are my only hope. Thank you

To round out my upcoming build in my sig, I'm after a nice 1440p 144hz G-sync panel to buy during Black Friday. My build isn't complete as I'm still waiting on the 9900K and Z390 boards to release, so waiting until Black Friday is perfectly fine. Anyhow there's 2 monitors on my short list with one or more 3440x1440 monitors on a tentative list. The monitors on my short list are the Acer XB271HU and the ASUS PG279Q and the ultrawides are the Acer X34P or any other 3440x1440 IPS panel. Gsync and IPS panels are required, as TN is garbage and VA panels smear too much. I was originally going to go for an ultrawide without question, but my monitor budget has had to take a few cuts due to IRL expenses (build fund is committed), so now these 16:9 monitors have moved to my short list. So between the aforementioned 16:9 monitors, which one would be the wiser decision for me or should I just continue saving up for an ultrawide? Note that I rarely play competitive FPS games anymore, so input lag is not a crucial metric for me. I just want an ideal mix of resolution, refresh rate, great colors (I will calibrate), and G-sync. Thanks.

Hey guys, I am currently thinking about buying new Asus PG279Q, but as I dont watch monitor scene closely, I dont know how often does Asus release their "monitor flagship". I would like to buy that monitor in two weeks and I know that that monitor is out for about 9 or 10 months, so should I expect it´s successor later this year, that would mean wait for it, or should it take like another year or so? You know, I dont want to spend such a money just to see its successor in 3 months or so.. Thanks, guys, Cameron

I've been looking at getting a monitor upgrade for a while, and was very excited about the specs of the Asus PG279Q when it was announced, but since then there have been stories after stories of poor QC - multiple dead pixels, terrible backlight bleed and higher than average IPS glow as well, and stuff like dirt and hair caught under the panel glass and other stuff like that. Pretty much any site with customer reviews or forums etc talking about the panel have horror stories, but I know Asus put out an Announcement on the issue and apparently are trying to clean up their act. I'm mainly interested to hear from anyone who has bought the PG279Q within the couple of months or so, and has a fairly new model (not an old stock code, as obviously they'll be vulnerable to the same issues). Asus put out their announcement in mid-March, so I'd have expected to hear better things by now but all the reviews I can find are either from 5 months or more ago, or are still fairly negative even today. A few quick things I'd like to point out: Firstly, yes I'm aware that BLB is not the same as IPS Glow and I know what "good" IPS glow should look like :). Secondly, this is mainly concerning to me because I tend to game and compute in a fairly dark room with the monitor at maximum brightness, and I'm aware that this is generally the "worst case" for poor monitor performance especially where IPS glow and BLB is concrned. I do have calibration tools so I can calibrate the monitor if needed but I don't like such tools habit of knocking the display brightness down to about 20% as I find the screen hard to see at lower brightness levels. (For anyone interested, I mostly use the Datacolor Spyder4 Elite for this, although I've only used it on my work PC, not personal ones). Thirdly, I'm aware of the Acer Predator XB271HU which has the same panel and about the same price. However I hear that the QC Isn't much better and the review I've seen comparing it to the ASUS paints the Acer in a Negative light too. Fourthly - My current monitor is the Asus VS24AHL, a decidedly middle of the road IPS. In order to show what my current IPS glow looks like (minimum, even in a dark room and at max settings) I decided to take a couple of photos to upload here - basically to say "This is tolerable to me, I wouldn't want anything worse than this especially at that price range". However, an interesting thing happened which wasn't originally going to be part of this post, but I'd be remiss to not mention it here. To my eyes, the monitor in a pitch black room looks dark - or, at least, has that "black monitor screen" look of a TV or monitor in a dark room, with the only BLB being a small white-ish patch on the right-hand side, half way up against the right bezel. However, my photos show something quite different, and I've attached them both - they show very significant glow in all four corners, with top left and top right being orange-y and the bottom left and right showing MASSIVE white patches - I cannot emphasise enough that these are not visible with the naked eye, which leads me to wonder whether all of the negative reviews of the PG279Q showing photos like the ones below may also be overblown due to cameras for some reason seeing things that we cannot with the naked eye. Thoughts? Tl;Dr: If you have bought the Asus PG279Q recently, what is the quality control (backlight bleed, IPS glow and dead pixels) like? Thanks for reading and any insight!

Worried about Backlight-Bleed Asus PG/MG-279Q?? LOOK HERE! :)
IslandStone posted a topic in Displays
I found this a while ago while researching the rumors about the "bad monitors" from Asus with a lot of backlight bleed from the frame (Asus MG279Q/PG279Q) Thought I should share this video(which I found helpful), about "blind-testing" a lot of there screens: Note that I still personally am considering this monitor. Please share thoughts and opinions. Please share you opinions and knowledge!- 2 replies

Current setup: 1920x1080 144hz asus monitor + dell 2560x1440 IPS monitor running on a 780ti + 3770k. I would really like a 2k(or higher res) IPS monitor with a high refresh rate for gaming, but is there any justification for dumping £750 into this new monitor from asus, or should I get the cheaper freesync version for £470? will I regret not getting the gsync version in future?
