Hello everyone, I have a Phillips 499P9 32:9 5120x1440p monitor. For gaming I like to scale it down to 2560x1440p in the middle of the monitor with black space on the sides. Up until now I had a GTX1070 and if there was a problem with the game scaling properly, I could go to the OSD Menu of the monitor and force an aspect ratio there. I recently upgraded to XFX Swift RX6800 and the aspect ratio option in the monitor does not work. The menu item is still there but it is not active and cannot be selected. This kinda sucks because I bought the GPU for 1440p gaming and if the game scaling does not work properly (e.g. like in Witcher 3) I am forced to use the whole monitor, requiring the GPU to push something like 80% of 4k. I tried various combinations (both global and per-game) of scaling settings in the AMD adrenaline app but they seem to have no effect at all. Can anyone here advise, whether I should look for some specific setting that would give the aspect ratio control back to the monitor? I'm starting to think that this whole foray to AMD was an error and that I should be a man and go back to nvidia. Thank you.

I have bought the Iiyama Prolite s2820hsb-b1 I thought I can do something like the Zenbook Pro Duo Notebook, but on desktop, I have a 21:9 monitor and the Prolite fits perfectly under the monitor and fits the lenght aswell The problem I have, is that the Prolite shows a native resolution of FullHD, not 1920x360 And I only see the top third of windows I tried switching resolutions in windows, nothing worked I somehow have to deactivate 1920x720 pixels (the lower 2 thirds), so I have a true native resolution of 1920x360

I am looking for 2 monitors that fit vertical evenly beside a 34 inch LG ultrawide. I know a standard 27 inch will line up but I saw a setup that had vertical monitors the lined up perfectly. I am looking for size and aspect ratio. Any help is appreciated. Happy Hollidays!!!

Hello, I need to access my Raspberry using TeamViewer. However, my laptop is a 3:2 aspect ratio screen at a resolution of 3240x2160. This is causing my Pi to have black borders when I access it through TeamViewer I've been trying to look online for a solution, however, I haven't found one that works.

I'm used ro 16:9 aspect ratio, so 21:9 sounds really weird for me Do most games support that aspect ratio? What about most videos / movies / etc?

I just want to talk about the idiocy the phone industry is shifting towards. Let me start this off with with the fact that I'm a big man. 192cm to be exact. With appropriately sized hands and head for this height. Right now I own a Sony XA2 but next year I'll have to replace it as it started to age. Screen size is good, and I don't have a hard time reaching all of it with one hand. When squating it is only mildly inconvenient when I wear tighter denim pants. In a phone call I can only put the upper part on my ear with the rest of the phone not touching my face and the microphone picks up even my whispers. I have tried for a few days a moto g9, with the big ass distorted aspect ratio. Leaving the build quality aside as it is a lower end phone than my Sony, it was a nightmare to use. Very hard to handle with one hand, it was stabbing my leg while in pocket even with loose shorts, an I had to keep it rammed im my face for the microphone to be in it's effective range. I can only assume it gets worse for shorter people. An 18:9 aspect ratio I assume would be okay for me, but it seems even that is considered now "too short" and 20:9 started being mainstream.

Have you ever wondered why dumb aspect ratios like 16:9 were invented? Why 1.7777777777777777777777777777:1 (aka 16:9) is good? Why our screen resolutions are a confusing number like 2160, 1440, 5120, 1080, 7680, etc...? Well, many decades ago, since different places all over the world were using different aspect ratios like 2.2:1 and 1.66:1 and 1.33:1 and other stuff, 16:9 turned out to be the average of all those. Then a bunch of people chose to standardize everything to 16:9 and made up 1920x1080. Well, I would like to say that these arbitrarily chosen resolutions and aspect ratios are horrible, just like the imperial system. There is literally no logical reason why there should be 12 inches in a foot, and 3 feet in a yard, and 1760 yards in a mile. There is also no logical reason why there should be 1080 pixels in a screen, or why it should be 1.7777777777 times wider than it is high. Or why 21:9 is more special than 20:9 and 22:9. A metric display system would improve everyone's experience with computers. Displays would have resolutions such as 2000x1000, or 4000x2000, or 5000x2000 for ultrawide, etc... Aspect ratios would actually make sense, 2:1, twice as wide as it is high. You would be able to easily divide a screen into regions, and know that half of your screen is 500px, or a quarter is 250px. Coding programs and web sites would make far more sense, 10% of a screen 1000px tall is 100px. 12% of a screen 1000px tall would be 120px. EVERYTHING WOULD BE MORE EFFICIENT! Obviously switching from 16:9 1920x1080 to 2:1 2000x1000 would be difficult, just like switching from imperial to metric measurements, but it would be a huge improvement to everyone in the world. The difference is also not that large between 16:9 and 2:1, just about 10%. This would mean living with tiny black bars when watching 16:9 content, which is not that bad. Cinema cameras already record at resolutions like 8000x4000 or other "metric" resolutions, so switching to 2:1 would just require rendering the final content at a 2:1 resolution. Fight the resolutions being imposed on us. Embrace the metric system!! Share thoughts below.

Hello, I was wondering what would be optimal res for converting 16:9 aspect video to 21:9. before someone asks 'why don't shoot you at 21:9 aspect in the first place?' Well, these videos are gameplay videos recorded on a 1080p screen at 16:9 aspect ratio. I use Adobe premiere pro and used 1920*823 resolution to make the video look like 21:9. When I uploaded the video to youtube, there were small black bars on the side in theater mode; which shouldn't be the case if the video is 21:9. Am I doing something wrong? Here's how I came up with 1920*823 resolution 1920/21 = 91.428 91.428*9 = 822.857 rounded off to 823

So my camera's actual resolution for images in the settings is 5184x3456, which is 16:10. However when I actually take the images and look at the resolutions, they're all brought down to 5184x2912, which is 16:9. How do I keep them in that original 16:10 aspect ratio? Should I even care about this?

I'm looking to use a bunch of 4:3 monitors to simply loop back old content from the toonami days to give an aesthetic to a room, kind of like Wendell has on the Tek with his looping he-man monitor. So, I was wondering, what were some of the better 4:3 monitors made? And where can I find them? I don't want tft, crappy viewing angles, bad contrast, I want the best 4:3s money can buy, within reason of course. I'm sure they still exist in surplus, right? If push comes to shove, I'll just buy a bunch of crappy surplus ones, but there must be some great 4:3s out there. Inject your knowledge into me, please. Oh, also, were there any 4:3s made with 1080p in mind? I have a lot of shows I'd like to loop back on them in 1448 x 1080.

So i opened up CSGO again today (normal thing for me as i play it maybe every two or three days) but this time i noticed something very wrong. something most people wouldn't notice if they haven't had any experience in CS but i noticed it and its really off putting. everything is slightly squished in. like the buy menu, instead of it being a perfect circle, its now a ever so slightly squished oval and the rest of the game is like that to. its incredibly off putting and aggravating. i can find anything online about it ANYWHERE. i run it on a 144hz panel thats 16:9 and 1920x1080. i didn't touch any of the settings its just gone all strange. anyone know WTF is going on? and whats weird is the screenshots don't show that its wrong, it all looks fine on screenshots?!?!?!?!?! im so confused

Just got my G9 and I fucking love everything about it... but there's an annoying issue, (I'm running the 1005.4 FW and a 1080Ti) So I can't, no matter what game, gpu or screen-scaling / no-scaling setting I choose, the G9 can't display an unstretched 16:9 aspect ratio at 2560x1440 @240Hz. Odd thing it does it perfectly @120Hz, but not at 240... I want to play a game like OW unstretched and at 240Hz but can only do so at 1080p?? That's too blurry and quite annoying.

Hi I'm a new member of both the tech industry and linus media group forum, so please go easy on me if I sound like a stupid... so I recently had an idea of connecting my laptop (compaq 510) with a second monitor just for some gamer/twitch streamer feeling... so I connected a old philips (most probably 720p) monitor to my laptop. I went to the screen resolution settings and viewed the second screen ( monitor) only. so my laptop had no visual. Then I went to the advanced option and changed the refresh rate to 120 hertz (my laptop screen only had one option:60). Instantly the monitor turned black and a box appeared that said "cannot display video. please change input to 1366by768 @60" (The second monitor does not even have the 1366by768 option). I tried to change the resolution of the second screen (monitor) from the main, laptop screen but doesn't work. I can extend the window to the second screen (monitor). I can duplicate it, I can choose the option "show desktop only on 1", but I cant choose "show desktop only on 2" option. If I do then The box appears again. I tried to go to safe mode and fix the resolution there but in safe mode the laptop can't detect the second screen. Oh and my OS is windows 7. Please need urgent help or else my dad will kill me!

Recently I have been ripping my DVD collection via MakeMKV to put on my Plex server but when I went to watch one of my movies back it was in a 2 x 3 aspect ratio but when I stuck the DVD in my Blu-ray drive it gave me a 16 x 9 aspect ratio. I was wondering how I would convert it to 16 x 9, if Plex can convert it for I was playing back at original quality because I have to because my server is not powerful enough yet to encode on the fly. Is there a way to adjust the file because when I view the raw file on my computer that I riped on VLC it’s 2 x 3 aspect ratio along with viewing it directly off the disk on my pc.

Hi There, I am a YouTuber. I used to record gameplay on a 16:9 display but now I have moved to a 21:9 display. I would like to record with an aspect ration of 16:9 instead of 21:9 as recording with an aspect ratio of 21:9 and then trying to change the 2560x1080 resolution to 1920x1080 etc. Makes the video either stretched, compressed or containing black bars depending on how you edit and render it. I was wondering if there is anyway to change my aspect ratio on my display to 16:9 and 1920x1080 for recording and then go back to 21:9 and 2560x1080 when I'm done, so that I can avoid all the problems in editing to try and get it to a normal 16:9 1080p. I do not mind if there is black bars on either side of my screen so long as its 16:9. I have windows 10 and Nvidia Graphics Card. So is there anything I can do?

iv been thinking for several months now or not whether to upgrade one of my monitors or not its been a difficult decision for me to make due to currently using 2, 1920x1080@60Hz 21.5inch panel sizes. For a long time I was thinking of making the switch to Ultra Wide so using a LG 29UM68 as an example but due to thinking about it for such a long time I am leaning more towards just getting a 2560x1440 24inch display to have the higher pixels per inch. But still having my two working monitors right now they are both around 5 years old each a piece I'm at a stalemate and wanted some advice on the matter. The reason I have been wondering whether or not to go for a 24inch is it worth me getting a display that's only slightly larger than what I am currently using. Budget is a little tight for me too currently I had my eyes on the ASUS VX24AH

Hi there! I need some advice. I've been running the same cursed 2010 Philips 60Hz 1080p 40in TV panel for PC gaming since, well, 2010. My neighbour and roommate have also been running similar 40in desktop tv setups. I'm kind of bummed that there aren't any options for 40in high refresh rate gaming monitors (lookin' at you Nvidia, a BFGD monitor is far too big to game on while sitting at a desktop--although this seems like a good solution for enthusiastic couch gaming). Ultrawide 34in is definitely awesome but the big problem for me is content compatibility with cinema. Aspect ratio is a big deal breaker for me, personally. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe 16:9 is the way to go for the vast majority of film, Netflix, HBO, and generally all streaming entertainment. Thoughts? Are you annoyed by those black pillarboxes on the sides when you're watching 16:9 content on a 21:9 monitor? Do you just think: "That's just the way it is?" I feel like there is a gap in the industry for guys like me and my homies. I mean, I'd be down to throw 2000$ on the solution here. Is it so unusual for some PC gamers to want to sit away from their desktop to enjoy some series/movies? Those gaming monitors become too small, especially if it's a 21:9 with nasty pillarboxes. A 65in mega TV isn't necessary either, it feels downright painful to sit so close to one on a mouse and keyboard desktop. All those amazing features--nano tech IPS panels, high refresh rates, GSYNC, Freesync, accurate color spaces and spectacular response times--they just stop at 34in ultrawide. As soon as you go a little bit higher than the Predator X34 type monitors with GSYNC, All the sweet spot 40/42in monitors feel systematically maxed out at 60Hz by the entire screen industry. God, why? It's so frustrating. So every 6 months or so, I try dreaming. I google things like: Best TV's for gaming... It all doesn't feel marketed towards PC gamers. Doesn't have the features we look for, and comes bloated with others we don't need (smart TV stuff). Meanwhile I'm definitely feeling the impact on my competitive gaming performance. Issues like ghosting, silly response times and boring old 60Hz have made my monitor the true bottleneck for my 1080Ti system. Anyways, sorry for the ranty feel of this post. Thanks for reading Attached is a typical small-appartment setup I've had over the years. I'm in a similar place right now. I love moving the chair to the side and leaning back on the couch to watch stuff.
