I had problems booting into operating systems that want more than 1024x768 resolution. I am dualbooting Windows 10 and Arch Linux Windows section: I could not boot into Windows normally, because it would crash on the change to a higher resolution. In the 2nd boot, it would boot into Windows RE to troubleshoot, and I selected "boot with Low Resolution Mode" and it works flawlessly. Linux section: My Arch Linux boot entries were deleted. So I wanted to use a Live disk to recreate them. I had a spare Arch Linux live disk laying around, so I booted into it, and crash. tried using some kernel commandlines edited in the live disk's GRUB2, still didn't work. I used these kernel commandlines: vga=1920x1080 video=1920x1080 gfxpayload=1920x1080 (not a kernel cmdline, a grub command) This is my systeminfo (in windows) >systeminfo Host Name: DESKTOP-BRI68P5 OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OS Version: 10.0.19045 N/A Build 19045 OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free Registered Owner: root Registered Organization: Product ID: 00330-80000-00000-AA720 Original Install Date: 11/16/2023, 7:34:29 PM System Boot Time: 12/11/2023, 2:54:54 PM System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name System Type: x64-based PC Processor(s): 1 Processor(s) Installed. hey guys! I've been on this crazy adventure getting HoloIso 5.0 running on my project Pc Steve. Steve has built-in wifi and blutooth (blutooth 4.0). connecting connecting controllers like Ps4, wiimote, xbox via blutooth is pretty easy, but what if i could get more than one to connect at a time? is that possible? would i need to upgrade the wifi card? is there a USB solution. Can linux (mostly archlinux) handle that? if anyone could shore some resources that would awesome! please remember im very much a novice when it comes to linux as a whole, so i may need step by step instructions. thanks!

Hello, am using Arch Linux for almost 2 months now with a KDE plasma Desktop environment, and am having several issues with apps that i installed like Steam, free download manager ..., they have a weird appearing once lunched as you can see in the pics down below. i have a 3200x1800 display monitor, so i thought maybe these apps aren't adapted to such a resolution, so i tried downgrading it to Full HD (1920x1080), but that didn't work. i tried installing graphic cards drivers (intel + nvidia), still nothing has changed. am using Xorg as a display manager, with SDDM. am really getting used to KDE, so i want to fix this issues, if not, i hope you can redirect me towards better desktop environments that are easy and efficient for a new Linux user to use.

So I have this curved 1920x1080 23.6'' monitor and even though I run it at this resolution I have some empty blank spaces at the edges of my monitor. About 5 mm vertically and 2 mm at the top. Back in my windows days I would use this guide https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/dh-022 . But since AMD doesn't have a Radeon Software Control for Linux I can't do that. I tried to fix it using xrandr but I am too noob to figure it out. Can anyone help me? Thanks for your time.

Which Nvidia RTX technologies do and do not work on Arch-based Linux distros, specifically Artix with OpenRC? Or just with Linux overall? I know of DLSS and Ray Tracing having issues, but it's hard to catalog all of the different algorithms and features that are employed by RTX cards, their interactions with Windows 10/11 and their subsequent interactions with Linux. Thanks for any input.

Hi everyone, I am loking for some software solution to auto control screen brightness through the webcam (I do not have a light sensor in my monitor and would prefer not to buy an external one). I looked around and found this Clight on github GitHub - FedeDP/Clight: A C daemon that turns your webcam into a light sensor. It will adjust screen backlight based on ambient brightness. It seems one of the only options, but I am not a programmer and not really confident with code, and I am not able to understand how to use the program and if it is compatible. I am currently on windows 10, and I see that in the code there is written archlinux. This makes me think it is a linux only app, but hope never dies, and maybe there is a workaround with the windows subsystem for linux? Also an alternative using something like python would be a nice project to work on for me. (I know python basics but usually work on R for statistical reasons, I know R is more similar to C probably). Let me know if you have any suggestion.

I am getting a Thinkpad x13s and have heard that it is a pain to get Linux up and running on it. I don't think anyone has successfully done it yet. Does anyone know if it is possible? Also any troubleshooting help when it arrives and I try to install Linux would be much appreciated.

Hey, so last night I installed Arch onto an SSD on my computer, and it was working perfectly. The problem is that today when I got home, I fired up my Windows drive for a bit (I have Windows and Arch on seperate drives so that I didn’t destroy anything while partitioning, then tried to go over to Arch, when it said that the SSD I was using for it wasn’t a bootable device despite this working last night. So I booted the Arch install media USB stick that I made and hit “boot existing OS” which made it go into what I assume is an error screen for like 100ms or something and then pop back out. Then I loaded the actual installation media environment and ran fdisk -l to check my partitions, and they were all still there. I am currently begging for support so that I don’t have to go and reinstall the whole OS. Attached image is my fdisk result and the video is me trying to boot into Arch from the install media FullSizeRender.mov

I have been trying to install a gnu driver on my raspberry pi. In the Xorg wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xorg#Driver_installation), it says to identify your card you need to type in $ lspci | grep -e VGA -e 3D I did and my terminal tells me that pcilib:Cannot open /proc/bus/pci lspci: Cannot find any working access method Is there any fix to this? Or just install another driver? @noahdvs You were right when you asked me before, I did not install proper driver for my arch linux system.

Hello, I installed Archlinux recently, it's installed correctly and boot correctly but I can not connect to my network (it's a pro network important for ip or gateway i think). I followed this tutorial in addition to the official tutorial and everything went well: https://arcolinuxd.com/5-the-actual-installation-of-arch-linux-phase-1-uefi/ From my work pc I have the following ip/gateway: Adresse IPv4. . . . . . . . . . . . . .: 10.49.111.11 Masque de sous-réseau. . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Passerelle par défaut. . . . . . . . . : 10.49.111.254 From the pc archlinux I have the following interfaces: 1: lo: [...] 2: enp8s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state UP group default qlen 1000 link/ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff inet 192.168.1.102/24 brd 192.168.1.255 scope global enp8s0 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 xxxx::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx/xx scope link valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever 3: wlp7s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN group default qlen 1000 link/ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff My / etc / netctl / enp8s0 file contains: Description='A basic static ethernet connection' Interface=enp8s0 Connection=ethernet IP=static Address('192.168.1.102/24' '10.49.111.0/255') #Routes=('192.168.0.0/24' via '192.168.1.2') Gateway=('192.168.1.1' '10.49.11.254') DNS=('192.168.1.1' '10.49.11.254' '8.8.8.8' '8.8.8.4.4') My / etc / hostname file contains: helyxportalan The log message is : for ping 8.8.8.8 the network is not accessible for ping google.com temporary failure in resolving the name Do you have an idea ? (and yes I read the doc and followed the official tutorial as well, but nothing changes)

I'm not sure about the category Computer Hardware or Linux. Hi there I experienced some problems with the manjaro graphics driver. I could not use my hdmi port, not my mini-dp port; but i solved the problem by doing the following manipulation: go to manjaro setting manager hardware configuration uninstall all bumblebee drivers for [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile] install video-nvidia-390xx reboot But, a new problem has appeared : When I plugged it (hdmi and mini-dp) I have the image on both screens but not on the built-in screens (it's ok because I close the laptop in this configuration). But when I unplug all the additional screens the built-in screens are black. I feel that the driver does not support the built-in screen. Any idea ?

I'm totally new to Linux, I've used Windows all my life, but I'm doing another very cool, watercooled build and I wanted to try my hand at it! I'm going for a minimalist install of Arch running i3-gaps and to be able to rice a nice desktop environment and learn some Python scripting. Aside from Raspbian, I've never touched Linux, and the installation process I see is gonna be a hassle, but not until I can actually boot into it! The build won't be finished for a while, so I'm practicing on my laptop. I have VMWare Workstation 14, and I created a virtual machine off of the ISO file: archlinux-2018.05.01-x86_64 Am I using the wrong live image? Is it compatible with VMWare? When I first created it, it asked what OS I was using, and under Linux, there was no option for Arch, so I just put Other. Is that important? When I try to boot, it runs some code, but stops shortly, displaying: Error: "(Whatever)" device did not show up after 30 seconds. Falling back to interactive prompt. sh: can't access tty. If anyone knows what's going on and wants to let me know, I'd really appreciate it! Image is down below...

I was wondering if there was a way to split up a dynamic drive in windows without wiping the other drive. I have two one terabyte drives put together into one dynamic drive in windows. I have only ~600 Gb of drive space used so I assume one of the drives is not used. I want to split them up and use one of them as a Linux partition, problem is they are named the same thing so I can't tell them apart. I also only have a 500 Gb backup drive so I can't backup all my data to wipe them and reformat them.

So I have an old Macbook 13inch I got for back in 2007. Still boots up, still runs moderately fine, but its stuck on OS X Leopard.The machine has a 2.16 Ghz Core Duo, 2 gigs of RAM, and a 120 gig HD; the screen and speakers seem to be in working order. The keyboard does not seem to work properly anymore, I have tried cleaning it out thoroughly but it seems to have crapped out over the years. I would like to convert this machine into a linux box and have a few questions about the process: Should I just use Bootcamp? I took anything of value off the HD long ago, so I could just partition Mac OS into a little closet... Am I able to boot from a USB Drive? I've tried searching for it but all my results talk about using it to boot with OS X or using a CD Will I have difficulties using a USB keyboard during installation due to lack of drivers? I have a mechanical keyboard i can hook up for the process if needed What would be a good Distro for this process? My one IRL Linux friend always says Arch, period. I liked the idea of Debian as its what Steam OS is based on, and was going to use Mint's Debian version until this weekends events. Is Manjaro a good compromise between ease of use of Mint and the control/freedom of Arch? My gut, peers, and research say I don't want an Ubuntu based distro.

Distro: Arch Linux DTE: XFCE desktop Terminal: Terminator Terminal Conky - Gotham clock and lunatico-rings (without the rings for some reason) i5 4670k @4.4GHz Radeon 7970 8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM This has taken me a few days as it's my first major linux installation (I have briefly installed and played with things like Ubuntu) but I never really learned to use them to their full extent, I ran into quite a few problems but all is working now. Also any suggestions for software I should install would be great Thanks
