Hello again everyone, So I posted some time ago about the computer I put together and I have decided to go full on and start building a homelab. Here is the server build list; CPU : AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Mobo: Asrock x570 phantom gaming 4 Ram: Timetec Hynix IC 32 Gig (4x8Gig) DDR4 2666MHzPC4-21300 ECC 1Rx8. GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 6GB I had laying around. Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro PH-ES614PC_BK Full Tower I've removed the 3 5.25 inch drive bay covers and installed a hard drive cage 5.25" to 5X 3.5 stainless steel with fan space added fan here and 2 more on top of case for more air flow out. HDD: 6x WD Red Plus 4TiB drives. 1 TB NVME Gen 4 to be used as web hosting storage 120 Gig ssd for the OS (though, I may use the NVME drive as OS, and this drive for a small cache disk???) The idea is to use the rig as a base, before I put in a rack and start mounting specialized servers for their roles in the homelab. So I am open to suggestions as I am quite new to this modern day homelab, I've built a bouwolf cluster, in my younger years to do mundane tasks, but I like to learn .. so here I am, asking for advice. I want to run a NAS, for sure, zfs is a must. I want to run a plex server, for sure. I absolutely must be able to host webapps and services (Apache2 works) This is most important. I've take steps to get business class internet service with a static IP, my modem is in bridged mode and paired with my own router/switch. And despite all odds, I now have hairpin nat working so I can access hosted sites by domain name and not mess with LAN Ip's and ports etc. I have some Raspberry Pi 4's I could use as a DNS or reverse DNS and maybe Pi Hole. I would like to run all of it on linux, I am leaning towards Pop_OS!, cause I like the cosmic desktop, and I know, I can run headless, but come on, it just looks good. But I'm open to OS suggestions. And most importantly, I really need some advice in getting this all to work. I have tried Ubuntu server distro, and it recently updated, the update destroyed my samba shares, and apcache hosted sites. for some reason, ftp connections wont limit to the path in the conf file for each user and their site, keeps sending them to their /home/ folder, not their /www/html/ folder as it did before the update. This has been a learning experience and I am loving linux again, but I am old, and it's been FAR too long since I have messed with Linux (not Linus), hell Red Hat was a baby then. lol. So suggestions, anyone? Love and appreciate all of you. Thanks in advance, iBL. Edit::: Messed with LINUX, not Linus, he's safe. LLTstore.com for underwear. Just saying.

Hello there! Can someon help me setup Nextcloud signaling server behind an univention server. My Univention server would be the public facing webserver. I set up may signaling server hopefully fine. BUT I can’t figure out the virtualhost on univention. My config currently is: <VirtualHost *:443> # ... existing configuration ... # Enable proxying Websocket requests to the standalone signaling server. ProxyPass "/standalone-signaling/" "ws://192.168.1.71:8080/" RewriteEngine On # Websocket connections from the clients. RewriteRule ^/standalone-signaling/spreed$ - [L] # Backend connections from Nextcloud. RewriteRule ^/standalone-signaling/api/(.*) http://192.168.1.71:8080/api/$1 [L,P] # ... existing configuration ... </VirtualHost> But I only get an 404 error. (I already enabled the site) I followed this guide: https://help.univention.com/t/howto-configure-additonal-websites-on-ucs/11582 and this guide: https://markus-blog.de/index.php/2020/07/30/how-to-install-nextcloud-talk-high-performance-backend-with-stun-turnserver-on-ubuntu/?unapproved=12801&moderation-hash=152ca0dc62476368de9460052f876bdd#comment-12801

Is there a way in proxmox to disable the https certs or enable http? Im trying to let all the traffic work via my webproxy. But is does not allow it for some reason. I can not figure out why. I also tried making the proxy without certs and using the standard proxmox certs, but that had the same problem.

Hey everybody! I am currently trying to get a mailserver up and running on my server, I managed to install postfix just fine and now I want to set up vimbadmin to manage the mailboxes. I installed it according to the manual and everything works fine up to the point where I have to first log in (using mydomain.xyz/vimbadmin). I get an error 404 there saying: " The requested URL /vimbadmin/public/auth/login was not found on this server. " Does anyone have an idea why it's happening? I've been googling for the past three day, but I can't really find anything even remotely helpful

will the php hide_email() function work for any string of text? ex a phone number or address (php hide_email() is a script that uses xhtml to encrypt the email into a javascript container, most crawlers cant execute javascript and thus cant see or collect your email)

So I am a total php noob so fell free to point any major issues out. Anyways I have a web server running the latest versions of apache and php on ubuntu 16.04. So here is the issue. I need to use composer. I have installed composer. Now I need to use the autoload function. In theory to do this all you do is require autoload.php which is located in /root/vendor. So I try require __DIR__ . '/root/vendor/autoload.php'; I get a warning followed by a fatal error with basically the same message The key part of the above is No such file or directory in /var/www/HTML/sandbox5678/StreamIt/index.php on line 6 This tells me that php is looking only in the folder where the file is running my question is how do I make it look somewhere else???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Hi Team Linus, first off, I'm quite a newbie when it comes to servers. Actually this is my first project. I bought a 100GB v-server and it comes with Ubuntu 16.04 including an apache2 server. It also comes with a fixed IP, lets say 123.123.123.123 and I have a subdomain pointing with an A record directly at the IP. The apache2 default site works perfectly both ways, either typing in cloud.mysuperdomainname.at or the IP directly via HTTP. But I have serious problems installing an SSL certificate (letsencrypt, https://certbot.eff.org/#ubuntuxenial-apache). My ports.conf file: Listen 80 Listen 443 // I added this extra, the original file came without this line <IfModule ssl_module> Listen 443 </IfModule> <IfModule mod_gnutls.c> Listen 443 </IfModule> My sites-enabled file: 000-default.conf <VirtualHost *:443> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost ServerName cloud.mysuperdomainname.at DocumentRoot /var/www/html ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}access.log combined </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot /var/www/html Servername cloud.mysuperdomainname.at ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined </VirtualHost> # vim: syntax=apache ts=4 sw=4 sts=4 sr noet Trying to install the letsencrypt certificate gives the following error: Obtaining a new certificate Performing the following challenges: tls-sni-01 challenge for cloud.mysuperdomainname.at Enabled Apache socache_shmcb module Enabled Apache ssl module Waiting for verification... Cleaning up challenges Failed authorization procedure. cloud.mysuperdomainname.at (tls-sni-01): urn:acme:error:connection :: The server could not connect to the client to verify the domain :: Error getting validation data IMPORTANT NOTES: - The following errors were reported by the server: Domain: cloud.mysuperdomainname.at Type: connection Detail: Error getting validation data To fix these errors, please make sure that your domain name was entered correctly and the DNS A record(s) for that domain contain(s) the right IP address. Additionally, please check that your computer has a publicly routable IP address and that no firewalls are preventing the server from communicating with the client. If you're using the webroot plugin, you should also verify that you are serving files from the webroot path you provided. - Your account credentials have been saved in your Certbot configuration directory at /etc/letsencrypt. You should make a secure backup of this folder now. This configuration directory will also contain certificates and private keys obtained by Certbot so making regular backups of this folder is ideal. I tried quite alot and searched google for hours but I don't have any solution yet. Can you guys help me? If you need logfiles or anything, just let me know. That would be awesome.

Hello, I try (unsuccessful) to install a webapp to my ubuntu server (web moneymanager ex). The description of installation is easy: "unpack the archive to webserver", and that is completely unclear for me. Looking as example at webmin installation, I unpacked downloaded app to /usr/share/[mmex webapp]. But I cannot access it even from localhost. And i struggle to find any info how to install webapps correctly. Do someone have any info about?

Hi, so I was trying to access my home server that is running apache2 on ubuntu 18.04 LTS from the browser of my laptop by typing the IP of the router cause I wanted to test the new static IP I bought today, but I get connection timed out, and also when I try to connect to the server via filezilla it doesn't work too. I assigned port 80 to the internal IP of the server on my router configuration page, and I also assigned port 22 and 21 for ssh and ftp, but nothing works. I checked the server for any problems but I found none and when I type localhost in the browser of the server it shows me the root directory that I set apache2 to display, so how can I resolve this issue, thanks in advance. Oh, also I tried typing the IP in my phone but I get the same thing.

so I was trying to host my website from home on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, but I couldn't so I bought web hosting and the website is working now, the only problem is that I was trying to set up the domain name in apache server, I really didn't know what I was doing I was just following some tutorial online, and I set ServerName to mydomain.com in the .conf file. I removed the .conf file of the domain (virtual host) from /etc/apache/sites-enabled and /etc/apache/sites-available and I did sudo a2dissite mydomain.com.conf but still whenever I visit the website through this machine it gives me the Apche2 Ubuntu default page, so what can I do to revert this?

Hello, I am going to start using Nextcloud and I want to be able to access it anywhere in the world. However I have heard that port forwarding is dangerous if I don't set up a firewall and as my family members do not understand this they would not allow me to port forward. Is there anyway I can host through a VPN so I get the IP of the VPN connection, or are there any special services like that?

Hello guys, after spent an embarrassingly long time learning basic html (barely learned that is, and 6 hours of my life gone) and getting annoyed at apache2, I have decided to just ask here for advise. How the hell do I make the navigation links from the home page lead to other pages? I know that's an incredibly basic thing to ask but this really isn't my forte really. The example navigation link I wanna set up would be: <li> <a href="#news"> News </a> </li> I tried putting a html file named #name.html in the same folder as the main page, but that yielded no fruits so I gave up. Should I name the whole file path for the href target? The machine is a linux VM running the LAMP stack.

Hi everyone! Recently, I found a very old server somewhere at a local hackerspace, so I figured, let's make it work again, so I can replace my Raspberry Pi B+ by an actual server. I searched a LONG time to find a Linux Distro that would work on the machine, and the only one I could make it work with is 'Debian 6.0.3 Squeeze'. So after setting up the system, I did the default routine: "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade". When I did "sudo apt-get install apache2" it printed out this: "Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: apache2 : Depends: apache2-mpm-worker (= 2.2.16-6+squeeze11) but it is not going to be installed or apache2-mpm-prefork (= 2.2.16-6+squeeze11) but it is not going to be installed or apache2-mpm-event (= 2.2.16-6+squeeze11) but it is not going to be installed or apache2-mpm-itk (= 2.2.16-6+squeeze11) but it is not going to be installed Depends: apache2.2-common (= 2.2.16-6+squeeze11) but it is not going to be installed E: Broken packages" I am sure I didn't make any typos because I quadriple checked it. I already did some research, but I haven't found anything useful yet. Any help is appreciated!!! Thanks! EDIT: For everyone who has the same problem, I seem to have fixed it. I changed the content of my /etc/apt/sources.list by the text you can find here: https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/Using After doing that, I read the rest of the web page, which actually shows a much shorter and cleaner way to do it. So if you have the same problem, I recommend to read this web page.
