I am currently using Bitdefender 2017 Total Security and it has never detected anything bad except for false positives. I am a very cautious user and don't really do anything with files/websites that I don't know. So since my antivirus doesn't detect anything bad on my system, should I just remove it and let Windows Defender do its job?

ok guys im sure this is here already but i cant find any real help. i have a toshiba HDD from an old laptop. my brother distroyed his computer and i stole the HDD from him since he cant use it anymore and i checkd it and it had viruses on it. i ran my AVG and got rid of them. i then deleted the volumes on the HDD and reformated it to use as a storage HDD for my anime and PDF books i backed up from my collection. anyways i know there are viruses and rootkits that can still be on the HDD but AVG doesnt find anything and all the help i find are for primary HDDs that have windows installed. since this will be a 2nd...well 3rd hard drive that i will install on my computer but want to make sure its 100% risk free before i install it for my main rig. if there is no way to make sure i will just buy a new drive just for that since i dont wanna bog down my main HDD for my rig. thanks for the help guys. also what affects does having more than 2 HDD/SSD installed on one computer (non-raid). will there be like slow speeds or anything like that. i know HDDs are slower than SSD but i mean just in general on stuff like that XD. just currious guys and gals haha

tbh, no one should have to hand over any password, ever. regardless of what they did. the second you have one password from someone, many things can happen. it can be leaked you can figure out other passwords (most people use variations) your personal life may be / is at risk what if the person has not done anything ? could you just be brought to court by error and suddently have your whole life given away ? no privacy ? this should not happen in my opinion. ever. So I was planning on using http://www.primochill.com/product/primochill-base-high-purity-deionized-water-32oz-clearuv-blue/ within PEGT tubing, First I would add a few drops of PT nuke for microbial protection, but I wouldn't know what to add for corrosion. My waterblock is made of nickel.

So i recently made a completely new build. It has run without any complaints at all untill roughly 3 days ago. Then suddenly my Pc starts shutting down, when it reboots i get a message saying "Asus Anti-Surge has been triggered to protect your components from an unstable power unit". This has really been bugging me, ive tried most of the things i could google but to no success. My build is: Asus X99-A Intel Core i7 - 5820k MSI Geforce GTX980 4GB 16 GB DDR4 Hyper X fury 2400mhz Ram Corsair RM850X What could cause this issue, and is it safe to disable in my bios settings? Could it by any chance have something to do with my CPU being overclocked?

So I've always been a strong user/supporter of Windows Defender. However recently I've been downloading "sketchy" files and Windows Defender doesn't have a single file search option, and I don't want to do a full system scan every time I torrent something. So if someone can recommend me some good free Anti-Virus I would appreciate it. (Also please provide proof that it's a good Anti-Virus)

Hi! I just bought myself a Galaxy S6 and was wondering whether I need to bother installing an anti-virus because I used to have an iPhone and I never really bothered with anything like that? A few questions though, Can malware/viruses be installed onto my device without me explicitly downloading something? What kind of activity puts me at risk of getting malware/viruses? Cheers

Hi, I just got a new pc with Windows 10 and I don't want it to be filled with viruses. I don't have money for an antivirus, so I'd like to use some free options. I was originally thinking about Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, because these don't need a lot of power and Windows Defender is already built-in. What do you think? What do you use? Thanks in advance, zbarni21

Another day, another complaint against Apple's proposed music streaming service, only this time Spotify has come back in a very petty way which makes no sense. Apple takes a 30% cut from app store sales. Seems largely understandable, no? They review your app, they publish guidelines and give you tools to make said apps, they host your app and handle global distribution. They take that 30% as a cost of business. This 30% cut goes into everything, upfront app purchase and in app ones. Spotify is complaining that Apple taking 30% is unfair, yet Spotify does not complain that Windows or Google take the same 30% cut. http://9to5mac.com/2015/05/07/apple-beats-music-spotify-complaint/

Case set to become biggest competition battle in Brussels since pursuit of Microsoft a decade ago In one corner we have Google, a juggernaut. In the other, we have the EU. Which rivals the UN for biggest organization trying to stay relevant in the modern age. As much as I enjoy watching lawsuits against companies, I gotta wonder if the EU isn't entirely out to lunch on this one. 6 billion dollars isn't exactly a small amount on any level for any company, even Google. Do the "crimes" really fit such a punishment? Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows. http://www.wsj.com/articles/eu-to-file-antitrust-charges-against-google-1429039881 This post has been promoted to an article

Not surprising that the FCC wants to push for something like this, going off the back of just how damn useful Actiivation Lock has been for Apple devices and now that Google and others are implementing their own anti-theft systems. I mean honestly, you can't even steal an iDevice anymore without knowing the account password, its a proper brick without that and Apple sure as hell won't help you unless you bring proper proof of purchase. Anything that decreases theft of devices is hardly a bad thing, IMHO the FCC shouldn't have to tell companies to do this since it should be done from the off. http://www.theverge.com/2015/6/12/8769851/fcc-phone-theft-prevention-remote-lock-data-wipe

So I have had my computer for a year now and this has been bugging me since I got it. I go to play any game with decent graphics and jaggies are everywhere! I have tried every combo I possibly can in catalyst control centre and none of them work, in some cases they make the game more laggy but don't do anything. I have found no other forums at have an answer. I have 8gb ram, r7 250x 1gb gddr5. I have tried the pc with two different graphics cards and they both have the same issue, I have also upgraded my monitor so I don't think it's anything to do with them.

Apple is reportedly shuttering ‘anti-virus’ apps on the iOS App Store, allegedly describing such software as ‘misleading’. In a move that I am going to categorize as "about fucking time", Apple has started removing anti-virus and anti-malware apps from their mobile app store. Why? Probably because they are wholly useless. Just a thought. More akin to scams that do nothing as opposed to anything a customer might actually want. Maybe Apple will go after all those memory cleaner and battery optimizer apps next, apps that also do absolutely nothing since iOS wasn't written by idiots and can manage its memory and battery pretty well without the placebo of these apps. Now, I'm not saying that iOS is invulnerable, but apart from willing installing 3rd party apps (on a non-jailbroken phone) or straight up installing shady crap off Cydia, iOS kinda doesn't need to worry about these kinds of things. I think Apple is right in labelling them as misleading and basically praying on normal, non enthusiasts and their "fear" of technology. Good riddance. http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/apple-removes-misleading-anti-virus-app-from-ios-in-alleged-crackdown

Hello! This is my first topic on forum and I want to share with you nice piece of software I've been using for around two years. Its small program that protects you from all viruses that rely on autorun.inf files. By that I mean when you connect your USB flash memory or any external memory that has autorun.inf to your computer it will automatically rename it to "autorun.inf_current date_time" and by doing that prevent its execution. I found it very easy to use. Its best to put it in startup folder or use built in function to start with system every time. When running it consumes about 1 MB of RAM and consumes about 17 KB memory on drive. When running, program will be shown in tray and can be configured by right click on its icon. Program IS NOT MINE. I found it on some random site when looking for program that does exactly that. Sorry if there are some mistakes in text as english is not my native language. Website (eng): http://sputnik70.narod.ru/news_eng.html Website (ru): http://sputnik70.narod.ru/ On same website you can find two more programs but I didn't tested them. pics:

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs is the latest PC title to take advantage of Nvidia’s GameWorks, a robust collection of tools that allow game developers to produce a visual experience which epitomizes Nvidia’s rallying cry: “The Way It’s Meant To Be Played.” Developers license these proprietary Nvidia technologies like TXAA and ShadowWorks to deliver a wide range of realistic graphical enhancements to things like smoke, lighting, and textures. Nvidia engineers typically work closely with the developers on the best execution of their final code. Recent examples of Nvidia GameWorks titles include Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and this week’s highly anticipated Watch Dogs. As you’re suspecting from the headline, Nvidia’s GameWorks is only good news for Nvidia, their development partners, and their GPU users. That’s logical, and it serves a sizable slice of the market. According to AMD’s Robert Hallock, it’s terrible news for the PC gaming ecosystem on the whole. “Gameworks represents a clear and present threat to gamers by deliberately crippling performance on AMD products (40% of the market) to widen the margin in favor of NVIDIA products,” Hallock told me in an email conversation over the weekend. But wait, it stands to reason that AMD would be miffed over a competitor having the edge when it comes to graphical fidelity and features, right? Hallock explains that the core problem is deeper: “Participation in the Gameworks program often precludes the developer from accepting AMD suggestions that would improve performance directly in the game code—the most desirable form of optimization.” So a partner studio like Ubisoft can suggest or write enhancements to the GameWorks libraries, but AMD isn’t allowed to see those changes or suggest their own. “The code obfuscation makes it difficult to perform our own after-the-fact driver optimizations, as the characteristics of the game are hidden behind many layers of circuitous and non-obvious routines,” Hallock continues. “This change coincides with NVIDIA’s decision to remove all public Direct3D code samples from their site in favor of a ‘contact us for licensing’ page. AMD does not engage in, support, or condone such activities.” I asked Robert Hallock about this specifically, and he explains that they had “very limited time with the title and [we've] been able to implement some respectable performance improvements thanks to the skill of our driver engineers. Careful performance analysis with a variety of internal tools have allowed us to profile this title, despite deliberate obfuscation attempts, to improve the experience for users.” AMD will release a new driver to the public this week which reflects those improvements. (It’s the same driver I conducted my testing with.) Unfortunately my conversation with Hallock didn’t end with a silver lining: “I am uncertain if we will be able to achieve additional gains due to the unfortunate practices of the Gameworks program,” he remarked. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2014/05/26/why-watch-dogs-is-bad-news-for-amd-users-and-potentially-the-entire-pc-gaming-ecosystem/
