When I start up my PC a number of problems can happen, it will take more than five times as long to start up and when it does its extremely slow, or it will start up normally and just stutter in the OS and games or just go black screen, or start normally then when watching youtube videos and hardware acceleration is turned on it will buffer the video but the audio will keep playing, going back a few seconds will temporarily fix the problem. I had my GPU RMA'd and the problem slowly came back. while i haven't been able to find a compatible full waterblock for my power color fighter 6700xt (twin fan) to bring my load temps down from a avg peak idle avg 27.5c load avg 67.7c (during the winter) in a 68deg room to avg 34.5c peak idle to avg 78.7c load (during the summer) in 72deg room with a well ventilated case 5 x 120mm noctua 3000rpm fans iv been thinking about thermal solution augments for the 6700xt such as replacing the thermal pasta with thermal pads like my cpu's [Innovation Cooling Graphite Thermal Pad] an try this on the gpu core an the ARCTIC TP-3: Premium Performance Thermal Pad on the vrms or the the arctic on both core an vrms my goal would be to at bare minimum get 8c in reduction any more like 10 - 12c an i would be even happier so id like thoughts , idea's , an advice on this an if anyone's got a step by step for this gpu's tear down so i can down it right would be much appreciated my gear loadout LITTLE YELLOW BEAST fyi if you think temps are affected negatively by this layout there actually a bit better as the old layout when the gpu was horizontal an rear aio as exhaust everything was 8c hotter at both idle an load they as cool as the are now after re-config ther no diff with 1-1/2 intake on the gpu as before but it vertical an with the rear exhaust fan freed up ther is , an the same for the cpu with front mount aio in pull config.

TLDR - I used to own a R9 290 (Sea Islands, GCN2) and couldnt get the Os to boot using the AMDGPU driver so that I could use Vulkan & DXVK, due to the reason the Kernel I have installed (5.8) and the AMD drivers only currently supporting up to Kernel 5.4. Im now using a R9 280 (Volcanic Islands, GCN1) and thought I`d give this another go and try to install Vulkan and get the AMDGPU driver running instead of Radeon. Ive had mixed results. I have managed to get Vulkan & DVVK installed and working 99% .... The last 1% being some game I cannot run from steam or lutirs that tell me I need DX11 installed of which I thought DXVK was for, so Im confused. vulkaninfo give 3 errors of what I am attributing to the issue with the Amd drivers not supporting Kernel 5.8 ERROR: [Loader Message] Code 0 : /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libvulkan_intel.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 ERROR: [Loader Message] Code 0 : /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libvulkan_lvp.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 ERROR: [Loader Message] Code 0 : /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libvulkan_radeon.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32 In the rest of the readout it also advises that its using the GPU id = 0 (llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.1, 256 bits)) and not my R9 280 and im a little confused about this too. lsmod | grep amdgpu also confirms this with - deviceType = PHYSICAL_DEVICE_TYPE_CPU deviceName = llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.1, 256 bits) In regards to the AMDGPU driver I have tried ... Blacklisting /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf Add the following line: blacklist radeon. Run sudo update-initramfs -u Editing the grub xhost +si:localuser:root; sudo gedit /etc/default/grub Change the line to the following: Change the line to the following: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.si_support=0 radeon.cik_support=1 amdgpu.si_support=0 amdgpu.cik_support=1 ( there is lots of conflicting guides on which one to switch on for my card and ive read that its in-between Sea Islands & Southern Islands, but .cik is the one to use?) sudo update-grub + reboot Adding these lines to the /etc/modprobe.d/amdgpu.conf options amdgpu si_support=0 options amdgpu cik_support=1 All of this had always resulted in either a black screen upon boot .. it just will not use AMDGPU I even tried updating the Kernel ( I think ) with the HWE stack, but it made no difference. sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-20.04-edge So in essence this time I have managed to get DXVK & Vulkan installed, but I still cannot use it properly ( I think from lots of reading ) due to the AMD drivers not supporting the Kernel I have installed. The easy option is to re-installed 20.04 and dont update the Kernel and according to the guides, I should be ok and this will work. However I coming to the conclusion that if Im going to re-install again, maybe I should just bite the bullet and Install Manjaro n go for the more stable setup as I can only envisage these problems returning if I stick with Gnome? Apart from Gnome being modelled off Debian and Manjaro being modelled from Arch .... I really cant find a simple explanation on how they differ under the hood. I know there is no guarantee that I will beable to get AMDGPU working with this card using Manjaro but Im up for the challenge/learning experience, but at the same time, I know more about Pop/Gnome n how it works compared to Manjaro/Arch n that keeps holding me back. I thought I`d run this past u peeps 1st just to see if there is anything I have missed out trying considering Ive actually managed to get Vulkan & DXVK installed this time before I head off on a new journey / head-ache again

RESOLVED: it worked. EDIT 2: I sent it back for replacement. Hopefully it works out. EDIT: using Ubuntu’s 5.13 as opposed to Pop!_OS’s 5.15 seems to have fixed it, but I’ll keep an eye on it, and update this post There's a weird issue with my 6900XT where it doesn't display anything after being asleep for a few hours. I took a nap earlier, then had dinner (so about 6 hours asleep). If I simply press the reset button, the display doesn't come back. Only thing that shows up is the the boot screen with the Gigabyte Aorus logo then nothing. I have to turn it off then turn it back on. For my birthday I got an RX 6500 XT and I know what you all are thinking, just hear me out before this I had bought an 8-year-old graphics card (GTX 750 TI 2GB) just so I can play at least Modded GTA and that's all so for me this was a HUGE upgrade and I wanted to just try to play Steam VR with this new GPU and... I was disappointed to see the black screen with 3 dots forever and getting nowhere. Searching for months and months I finally found the solution on how to play Steam VR with Oculus Quest 2 with an RX 6500 XT Graphics card. A developer (@Ev1lbl0w) helped with the ALVR project and now we can play Steam VR. All you need is a powerful enough CPU that can do its own video encoding. Using ALVR can now allow you to play Steam VR. Now I will note that using it wired is much better because it doesn't lag as badly as wirelessly but that's just me especially since I'm not using an ethernet. But if you're looking for a solution here you go folks, it's been months but now I can finally play and it works pretty smoothly for me (Wired). Hope you enjoy and huge thanks to Ev1bl0w! My setup: CPU: Intel i5-10600k GPU: AMD RX 6500 XT RAM: 16 GB VR: Oculus Quest 2 Link to the project: https://alvr-org.github.io How to use ALVR wired: https://github.com/alvr-org/ALVR/wiki/Use-ALVR-through-a-USB-connection

Hello .. Me again .. Nayr438 - Soz I didnt reply in the old thread, but TLDR, it gave the same result n my head blew up n I had to leave it for a month Anyhow on to the current issue... Guess what .. its the same one ... Current setup - I5 2500, R9 290, 16Gb RAM, Manjaro KDE installed, Still on 5.9 Kernel due to a time-shift rollback ( I buggered the GRUB just b4 this post with too much desperate tinkering ) .. Anyhow .. This time somehow I have "vulkan" working using I assume the updated Radeon drivers, I can get vxcube running and get no errors when I "vulkaninfo" it .. But I cannot get any dx11 Proton games working in steam ... I can get a few working via wine .. but would prefer to use the amdgpu-pro driver so that I can use Proton to its full abilities for "my GPU". So AFAIK I have all the required drivers installed and I am back to where I was b4 I messed up the GRUB ... Current installed drivers are - My Issue is that when I Follow the Archwiki guide .... Whatever I do """" always"""" ends in a totally blackscreen where I cannot even access the tty2 screen to fix my errors. ... I have made sure > - Made sure amdgpu has been set as first module in the Mkinitcpio#MODULES (I only wrote amdgpu in the modules tho?) - Set module parameters in kernel command line both in the amdgpu.conf & radeon.conf file - Make sure modconf is in the the HOOKS array in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and regenerate the initramfs ( I believe this covers the "Early KMS start" bit too ) - Made sure the "Install the amdgpu-pro-libglAUR. Optionally install the lib32-amdgpu-pro-libglAUR package for 32-bit application support." are installed - Even tried the last fix on this site that has the same Issue as me but with 390`s - https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/1222 - And this ... Yet - Everytime I get a blackscreen on boot. However .. If I edit /etc/modprobe.d/amdgpu.conf to options amdgpu si_support=0 options amdgpu cik_support=1 ... It does allow me to boot with nomodeset & get the tty2, so I can revert it If I select any other option from any guide I have found .. I get total black screen with "" no chance "" of the TTY2 screen. I read on another site that 1 dude believed that the GDM was loading b4 the amdgpu driver .. I dont totally understand what hes trying to say re: the fix, so have not tried it yet, but it could be a option as nothing else is working https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/kx8mam/radeon_loads_fine_cant_get_amdgpu_to_load_on_gcn/https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/kx8mam/radeon_loads_fine_cant_get_amdgpu_to_load_on_gcn/ Here are some random screenshots via my adventures of trying to get the amdgpu driver to boot 1st (Just in case they help) .. But Im at a bit of a loss as what to try next considering I cant use the wiki anymore Long post but would rather give as much info as poss to fix this issue ... Other people have it working with a "very" similar setup .. So it "should" work on mine too ... But for the life of me .. I cannot Anyone

Hi Everybody, I have a problem with my GPU Sapphire Nitro+ 6900xt, that crashes in stress situations (and not only). I just built a new pc, and every piece is new, at the end of the message you can find my config. So to go more in details, I was trying to simply benchmarck the card with Heaven, and I did not seem to have encouraging results. I was initially having troubles in doing it in every setting except at low quality, where it went smoothly. As soon as I put the settings up to medium, the screen would go black after few minutes and the whole computer rebooted. I tried to remove drivers with UDD and then I installed them again and I connected the GPU to the PSU via three different cables (before there were two cables only), and after these changes nothing different happened, the GPU was still rebooting the whole PC when set on medium quality; however, for whatever reason, after few hours I tried again (changing nothing) and it eventually seemed to be able to run a benchmark with either low and extreme quality. The average quality is ok, apart from the fact that at some stages the screen becomes completely black and once is on again, the benchmarking is still going while the whole AMD program crashes. From times to times I also seem to get BSOD with different errors every time. I then tried to play a simple videogame, which only required around 50% GPU but the game caused a crash of the whole pc again. I don’t understand what kind of problem could be, and it is so frustrating, what would you suggest me to do to try and fix it? SPECS: Mobo: Gigabyte Aorus Z690 Elite PSU: Corsair HX1000 W modular CPU: Intel I5 12400 CPU FAN: Stock intel Fan Ram: 16gb DDR5 Kingston 4800Mhz GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ 6900XT OS: Win 10 Everything has not been overclocked and is running as it comes out of the box, as I want to get stability first (when will it happen), and then try to move something around

Quite simply the problem is that the clocks stay cranked to the max regardless of temperature. I watched it climb to 100C before the machine shut itself off. Trying to do folding@home. The fan was going full tilt. On the newly installed PureOS (Debian) I am trying to install the driver for the AMD Ryzen™ 5 2400G with Vega 11 Graphics. I tried to follow the video How to Install AMD GPU Radeon Driver in Debian and tried to follow the commands: lspci -nnk | grep -i -EA3 "3d|display|vga" xrandr sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list (main contrib non-free) sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install firmware-amd-graphics libgl1-mesa-dri after the commands and following the video, I am looking at the lspci command and I get the following output: ~$ lspci -nnk | grep -i -EA3 "3d|display|vga" 0a:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Any tips on how to fix this? Thanks! lspci:

This topic is kinda related - It was suggested that I could try using Manjaro and decided to give it a go and downloaded the KDE plasma version. I installed it on a totally separate drive to PopOs, next to a WIn10 partition. Once installed, I then followed the instructions on the Arch site to get the AMD drivers installed, update mesa and try to get Vulkan running. I installed all these files from the arch site and then the Linux core via the instructions. When It asked me to "Specify the correct module order" I remembered Nayr438's comments and ran the " sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/amdgpu.conf " commands and inserted data & saved and then the " sudo nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf ". In here there were no modules set, so I added amdgpu & Radeon, saved and exited. When I ran " sudo mkinitcpio -p linux54 " The process started but advised there were errors to do with the amdgpu & radeon modules. I guess I did something wrong ? I rebooted and and prayed Vulkan might run, loaded steam and of course it wouldnt So, I headed into the package manager ( think its called that ) and proceeded to install everything that I thought might have something to do with vulkan and amd drivers ... Yes I cried when I saw the amdgpu experimental install ? I thought it would be best just to stick with the normal amd drivers for the mo and installed all of these - I rebooted and it was still the same I looked on some other sites for pointers but just became a bit lost again to be honest and then went into random install anything mad man mode before I really cocked it up ? I did manage to take these SS tho, so hopefully they are helpful - I did however manage to update the manjaro grub so that I had the boot choice option pop up instead of it just loading into Win10 straight away( they share the same drive ), so not a complete waste of time After all that .... I calmed down and rebooted, Vulkan was still the same, but I finally found out how to check what driver was loading and could see that it was the Radeon one So I headed back into the package manager and decided to install the amdgpu-experimental package ... when this ran all these windows came up ( im screenshotting everything by now btw ) and then I got these error messages .. I Kinda determined that this ment it didn't work, but thought I better give it a reboot just in case. Thats when I received that Horrible black screen of nothing when I rebooted back into Manjaro .... It just would not load I still had PopOs & Win10 tho and proceeded to try and boot Pop ... This ended in a grey screen, I wouldn't let me log in or get into the Alt+F2 or F3 thing either. Most My files were on Pop so, I tried to do a refresh install and whereas it brought up the login screen this time, it would not let me log in and ended up in a cycle of accept and reset login screen every time I entered my psw ? I had to do a fresh re-install for the 10th time in the end ? (I got my copy of home directory 1st tho using the live usb - phew) I also did try using the recovery drives for both Os`s, but apart from fixing the Grub and packages, im a bit lost as what to look for when editing the grub ... I see the word splash, but have no idea what to type or remove or even how to save it afterwards still learning. Win10 btw somehow survived all this and still works ... the irony ugh. If you've made it this far well done you must either really like solving issues or fixing Linux. I have a few questions moving forwards .. 1 - How did Installing a graphic driver on one system bork both Os's into not being able to boot? I made sure they both had their own swap partitions and they were on separate drives too? 2 - Two different Os's have both given me the black screen of doom upon boot, PopOs Gnome & Manjaro KDE. Am I doing the correct things to ensure im giving it the best chance to work? As far as im aware the only things I need to update as the mesa drivers and setup dxvk/d9vk, install the amdgpu drivers and set a few grub/kernel commands and it should work. Am I missing anything else I need to install? 3 - Can someone link a video of really basic guide on how to edit the grub thing during boot or via a live usb properly .... I really should be learning how to do this so that I dont have to keep on re-installing my Os, but the guides Ive found tend to over confuse the explanation and I get lost again Thx for reading again if u made it this far & soz for the mass of pictures, im dyslexic and pics inform a lot better imo

ok so. like normal people i update drivers when they are released.. i updated to the catalyst 14.9 drivers and now youtube on google chrome will randomly crash the display drivers forcing me to use the trusty reset button. this only happens when i am trying to close the entire browser and not a tab. i use the browser on a second screen with a different resolution than the primary monitor. not sure if that makes a difference. upon the driver crash i get a black screen with pieces of what the browser looked like scattered across the screen and flashing. sometimes the primary monitor will be normal and i can fix it by reopening a google chrome window.. sometime the primary goes blank as well. not sure if its a common issue but its the first time ive encountered it. this happens with and without overclock on the gpu. its not overheating. ive ruled that out already. important specs. win 7 x64 ult. xfx r9 280x amd catalyst 14.9 primary monitor 1920x1080 dvi-d secondary 1440x900 dvi-d if i missed something important let me know. and thank you for reading
