hi i'm currently planning to gradually build my first ever pc from scratch. i have an ssd-upgraded legion y530 1050 ti i5 8300h laptop bought in 2019 and it's still a champ for work and some older games so i will continue to use it, but i can't deny it's nearing its course sooner or later especially for games and i wanna be prepared. though of course before buying the pc parts one by one over time i need to decide on them. however i've been going back and forth over my cpu and gpu choices that it's bugging me so much so i would like a second or third opinion from people who know more than me Budget: around $470 USD (~Rp 7.2 million, for ease of reading i'll use USD) less if possible because i also need to save for a new phone but i don't want to sacrifice too much performance and upgradability Country: indonesia, where every penny counts and where all your cash goes to shopee or tokopedia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mostly emulated games and a few singleplayer AAA titles like baldur's gate 3 and the upcoming dragon age 4 in 1080p >60fps + light photoshop/premier use. i'm thinking my build should last around 6~8 years before doing more major upgrades after the other parts i've decided (total ~$265): 2x8gb ddr4 3200mhz ram (~$35) a550bn msi 80 bronze psu ($45) 1tb m.2 nvme ($45) matx case + fans ($30) 1080p 144hz koorui 24e3 monitor ($110) for the remaining $205 i'm mainly considering a few options. i would either have a ryzen 5600g + b550m (~205$) or a i3 12100 + h610m (~$187) to just get it up and running first when i eventually get the parts. then when my paycheck rolls in the months to come and pc part prices hopefully get even cheaper i'd be getting an rx 6600 (i found used ones for ~$130) or something higher to complete the build. if am4 then i have an upgrade path to the new 5800x3d, if intel then to whatever 14th gen will have to offer. the third option is that i get the 12100f and a used rx 580 8gb (total ~$224) and use that for 1~2 years until i can get a better gpu later but it's kinda stretching my pocket here. what do you guys think? is it wise to buy am4 brand new in 2023 when am5 is here or should i go with lga1700 for some futureproofing? should i sacrifice some other parts for the cpu/gpu? do you think with my budget maybe i should look at older gens? should i wait off 1~2 years and be content with my laptop before i build? thanks so much in advance!

Since GPU princing is out of control .. I am looking at getting a prebuild. The options I have are below PC 1 Motherboard : MAG B550M BAZOOKA CPU : 5600x Cooler : MAG Coreliquid 240R GPU : MSI 3070 GAMING X TRIO RAM : 2x8GB DDR4 3600Mhz SSD : 970 EVO PLUS 500Gb Case : MAG FORGE 100M Power supply : MSI MPG A850GF PC 2 Motherboard : Asus Z490 (don't know the exact model) CPU : 10700K Cooler : Freezer 34 eSports DUO WHITE GPU : Gigabyte 3070 VISION OC RAM : 2x8GB DDR4 3600Mhz SSD : Some generic 480Gb Case : Aqirys Wezen Power supply : Some Generic 750W The difference between the 2 is 100 Euro, The I7 is a bit cheaper. From all reviews I browsed and looked at, everyone is saying I should go for the 5600x. Between the 2 I think the 10700k is a bit better overall but has a shorter lifespan and upgradeability. PC will mostly be used for 1440p gaming ( I have a 1440p 165hz G-Sync monitor) and some coding ( some VM's ... etc .. not very intensive ) Budget (including currency): 2000 Eur Country: Romania Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Warzone, Dota 2, Cyberpunk etc..

Budget (including currency): No More than $1,500 (US dollars) Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Adobe Premier Pro & Visual Studio Code Editor (I use it mostly for video editing for my day job. I code with multiple windows open, including Chrome and Fire Fox.) Hello, I have done some of my own research on PC Building and SI Prebuilt; however, I have never built a pc myself. I wanted to attempt to build my next pc, yet with CPU and GPU shortage it looks like that my not happen this year. I wanted to ask all the experts in Linus Tech Tips Forum on where to go next. Current PC: A 5 years old Inspiron 3668 that my father-in-law gave me. It renders video files in about..... 3 hours.... and export them in about ..... 15 hours. It currently has a GPU in it that is only a year old. SO here is the problem: I would like a new pc, but I can wait if price or company isn't right. I am looking for more information to make an informed build. The SI that I am looking at buying from is NZXT BLD. Which I am debating about the Streaming PC (image below on Specs) or building my own with the current GPU as my graphic card in the new build. Which one is best for my situation? Should I wait? Should I build it? Should I buy it from NZXT? I just want to learn more and I appreciate any help. Thank you Linus Tech Tip Fans. Current PC Specs: Processor: Intel Core i3-7100 CPU @3.90GHz Installed RAM: 16gb Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti

Hello everyone I am considering buying a new gaming rig and going what i call "all out" i mostly game on my pc, but sometimes i do CAD/CAM work aswell in programs such as Mastercam and inventor. In the photo i have attached you will see the configuration i am currently thinking, but what i want to know is- Am i better of getting one of the new Ryzen CPU's instead of the i9 10900 i currently have chosen, ofcourse i would need to change motherboard aswell. i would like to know a better combination of CPU/motherboard for the same amount of money Or i would like to know a cheaper combo of CPU/motherboard for less money with the same performance. ALSO i would like my motherboard to include WIFI. I look very much forward to hearing all of your suggestions! Best regards from Denmark

Hi, I'm looking for a complete AMD build for my friend and which should be adequate enough to be game for next 4 years with decent performance (at least 40 fps only) and if no, then shall I make him wait for ryzen 6/5 whenever if its going to launch. If you wan't to know the budget, it's INR 55k, so suggest us by going into in.PCPARTPICKER.com as stuff in USD doesn't help because of heavy import duty. P.s. - We're going for ASUS Dual-Fan Radeon Rx 480 4GB OC Edition AMD Gaming Graphics Card with DP 1.4 HDMI 2.0 DUAL-RX480-O4G DUAL 4GB All kinds of suggestion are welcomed (we can rest with intel too). Image attached of my build (G-card is for INR16k) Thank you

estevan436 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I’ve been wanting too upgrade my cpu for a while now from a i5 9600k to a i7 9700k the reason why is because i want more threads and i was wondering whether or not my motherboard will be an issue, I would like to do a slight overclock (gigabyte Z390UD) however if that’s not possible with my motherboard i was thinking of getting a Ryzen cpu (Ryzen 7 3700x) with a new motherboard, will take recommendations, Thanks. Budget of 150 for a new motherboard for Ryzen- 3 replies

Hey LTT Forums! Looking for some help and ideas considering my build for my next PC that I'm going to be building this month. The goal is to do a "White" Build, I am having trouble choosing a motherboard to match this build. I still haven't decided to go AMD or Intel, I love the new 3000 series from AMD but have always gone with Intel in the past. I plan on mostly gaming/streaming with editing as a side hobby. I want the computer to be able to do it all, price isn't too much of a concern. I just feel overwhelmed at choosing motherboards and it doesn't seem like manufacturers really make them White anymore. I have considered painting it white as an option but would need a helpful guide before I did it on my own. Willing to take suggestions on other parts as well! 1. Budget & Location My budget is as close to $1000 max as possible but willing to go over if worth it. I will be building this towards the end of February or early March with my tax return. (no longer true, buying parts today) 2. Aim I plan on using the computer for general daily use of browsing, Discord, streaming and games(mostly rpg, but a variety will be played, games like LOL or DOTA wont be played though). I will also do some audio recording on the side but as far as I am aware that doesnt take much pc side. 3. Monitors I plan on eventually running two 1080p or 1440p monitors at 144hz but not required right now if it wont fit in budget. I have a 1080p 60hz monitor right now. 4. Peripherals I already have keyboard, mouse, speakers, webcam and mic. For my OS I will be using windows as my main drive and I will have a dual boot option for linux on a separate drive. 5. Why are you upgrading? I am upgrading because my current laptop is quite old and not capable of running most games let alone minecraft. Parts that I already have and will be reusing in the new build: 2 500gb SSD (windows on 1 and linux on the other) 1 Be Quiet Pure 600 PC case Edit: I ended up ordering parts today, here is the list of parts that will be in my rig https://pcpartpicker.com/user/kazukokat/saved/6jbmqs

Hi Guys, probably posting on wrong forum, however multiple questions that cross multiple forum's so didn't know what to do. I recently lost my retro gaming setup due to my HDD failing and noon mistake for not backing things up. I had this set up on Linuxmint 19 and things were going well with EmulationStation. Now that is gone, thinking of doing something bigger. Currently on hand: AMD Phenom II X4 965BE, Asis M488TD-M Evo/UBS3, Crucial Ballistix 16GB DDR3 1600, Asus Strix GTX 970, SSD fot boot and 2TB for storage, PSU recently died due to other reasons so still pondering that part. I remember Linus did a retro arcade set up at some stage so wanted your thoughts on what I am doing. 1) I had EmulationStation running, piece of cake to set up. looked at a buck of other options, found hyper spin but it's doing my head in a bit. If at all possible, would love your thoughts and recommendations? 2) new hardware or stick with what I got? 3) what PSU to get for this? thanks in advance.

Budget: 700 usd, but prefirably less. can go 1000 if nessesary. Country: us i am gonna make a system for a friend. it'll have ubuntu 20.04 umix os. i have a spare gpu, so that is not included in the budget, nor are keyboard/mouse. i was thinking of going amd, but i looked and their equivalent of a 6core lacks an igpu which is a must for the p106 to work. the system will be used for gaming. anything i should change? OK guys, I need unbiased opinions on whether to go AMD or Intel, I DO NOT WANT TO START A FLAME WAR! Although that is sure to be what I'm doing. I'm putting together a gaming build in the $1500-1550 range. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/VR4DGX ( Project Ren Original ) http://pcpartpicker.com/list/t3t6YJ ( Project Experiment Zero/Overclock Experiment ) http://pcpartpicker.com/list/4Y6mnQ ( Future Build 3 ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152928 This is the laptop I am currently running. Although, these aren't up in the $1500 range this is what I came up with. Now I need a monitor, speakers, keyboard, wifi booster and operating system. I have a mouse and mouse pad. I play a good bit of the Total War series on steam, The Forest, some light CS:GO ( I haven't gone up in rank yet), World of Warcraft, Dishonored, Fallout series, Hitman, DOOM and Dark Souls, and Arma 3. I would like the GTX 1080 if possible, but I can settle for the 1070 or 980ti if I have to. The 1080 might be overkill for my needs, but I might as well go overkill because I'd like this to last at least 4 years or so. Also looked at the RX 480, I'm very curious with AMD, I think I'm leaning to intel at the moment honestly. Thank you in advance and be nice. -Deepia

So im buying my first custom desktop for the primary use of gaming but also some 3D Modeling/Editing. Im having a hard time choosing what cpu i should go far as my budget is on approx. 650$. Currently what im considering is this: CPU: AMD Fx 6300 Motherboard: MSI 970A SLI Krait Edition Socket AM3+ GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 750 ti FTW Ed. Memory: HyperX Fury 2x4gb DDR3 PSU: Not sure yet but 80+ Bronze certified 500w is what im most likely going to go for Case: Cooler Master CM Force 500 Mid Tower/In-Win Mana 136 Mid Tower Hard Drives/SSD: Kingston SSDNow 120gb. Have some hard drives that i can use so im not including that here. My question is mostly whether i should change any of the parts for something else and whether or not i should invest some more money into an intel skylake processor? Im also very unsure whether or not i should go for an amd card in the same price range as the gtx 750 ti that would give me the same performance... Feel free to recommend me something else, im very open for suggestions.

Hey everyone, This is my very first build and I'm lost. I just got into computer gaming and I love it! I really don't have another reason to build a computer except for gaming. I am a pitcher with the Yankees. I travel a lot through out the year. So it needs to be small something the I can get a quality mobo that's mATX or ITX. So far I have gotten myself a little EVGA GTX 980 Classified for this build. I got it on sale for 480 USD. That's my parts list so far. So the big problem is I need a CPU that won't bottleneck my 980 and has at least 4 cores over 3.2ghz for under $200 preferably under $150. I will be waiting till October or later to build this. I'm not afraid to overclock or anything like that. I had my heart set on the AMD FX 6300 but an i5 might be more future proofed. Let me know what you all think! Thank you!

Hi. For 2 days ago i posted a topic about i'm getting high CPU when i playing and record in 1080p and 60 frame rate. I don't know so much about CPU and processor, therefore i ask if someone could tell me what required for a processor to NOT struggle with gaming and recording at the same time. I dont know so much about my processor, but it's a AMD fx 4300 quad processor with 8 ram and 3.80 GHz. Is that bad when it's come to gaming? So yeah basically i hope someone could tell me what make it a bad processor and what make it a good processor for gaming, recording and video editing? Thanks for your time, sorry for the bad English Edit: Hi everyone. Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it . I have a lot to think about now i know a bit more about CPU and processor

Hey guys, I building a PC that I want to be able to game on on without any limits and run CPU intensive single and multi-threaded programs on. I don't have a limit really on what I can spend on my CPU I thought a "AMD FX 9590 Black Edition" would be good shout but I'm unsure if there is a Intel alternative. Do you think I've chosen the right CPU or is there a better alternative.

Hi guys, so here is my actual build: Mobo: GA 78lmtusb3 CPU: FX-6100 GPU:r9 290 OC2 (i Have an other one lying around so am willing to get a xfire mobo maybe) Memory: 8Gb HDD: 500 SSD + 2TB SSHD. I was wondering, does my cpu bottleneck my gpu? From what I found searching it does maybe you guys have a different point of view. I get 35-40 fps playing at WOW on ultra, so I though of upgrading my cpu to an 8350 or 8370, or even going for an I7-4770K(or less if it doesn't requires that much) which would mean new mobo. What do you guys think? What I do with my pc: Mostly programming, playing games like WOW, LOL, CSGO, I know they are'nt that demanding but in case I want to play games like Witcher 3, or else I want to be able to, when I want to. thank you in advance,

Hi guys, I am a regular follower of Linus tech tips and I joined the forum recently. We all know there is a never ending debate between "Whats best between amd and intel processors". I know this may sound funny, but I would like to have an open minded discussion on this topic (discussed by Linus and Luke, not by us members of the forum). Although I am not a fan boy of either of these brands, i usually am inclined towards intel when it comes to processors for obvious reasons like better raw performance per core and we dont need more than four course even while multitasking for regular daily use anyway. I know there are some strong areas for AMD too like better performance in OpenCL, Compression and Decompression rate etc. Considering this as an opportunity, I would like to ask Linus to host a discussion on benefits of Intel or AMD as a small segment in a wan show or in some other way. If you are open to the idea, please comment accordingly. I personally would like Linus as team RED Leader and Luke as team BLUE leader. Comment if the discussion is worthless or if it is worth a discussion, who should pick what side? PS: Remember guys, the primary purpose of this post is for to say whether Linus should do a video on this topic.

My question: Should I upgrade to an Intel Core i7-4770K or to an AMD FX 8350 Black Edition? please list the pros and cons, I'm aware of the huge price to performance argument but I'm willing to spent some more if it makes my life easier.

Hi! im planning on building my first rig only im not realy sure of what parts i should pick ( my budget is €1,300 / $1750 USD ) my budget is only for the pc it self so no monitor/mouse/keyboard/ os system. my goal is for the best gaming performance possible with my budget ( even preferable with some extra room to even expand in the future. ) i don't care about AMD or Intel just who has the best performance for my price range. if anyone with allot of knowledge wanna help me that would be fantastic! thank you in advance.
