I have a bizarre idea that I can't get out of my head, now that my ancient desktop is dying and I need a replacement. Basically I'm planning a custom built case for an extremely portable, rugged PC, using a hard protective luggage box as a case, something like this: 1200 Protector Case | Peli Official Store. I move around a lot by motorbike, so having a powerful PC that can still fit into a backpack and not melt from vibrations would be a dream. I don't want a gaming laptop because they're lame and not upgradeable. Obviously issues to solve are vibration resistant mounting for the components, cooling, and just fitting everything in - but if I can lose the GPU, that will make everything much easier. So I guess my question is, are there any CPUs out there with integrated graphics good enough to play modern-ish games, do CAD and light AI workloads? I've read about the new Ryzen 7 8700G, will this be able to do it? I have a 1050ti dGPU currently so I guess a good benchmark would be, will it be able to match or exceed the performance of the 1050ti? Any other things I should worry about? (e.g I heard iGPUs use RAM as VRAM so high speed RAM is much more important, is that true?) Thanks for reading!

Gigabyte ab350m Gaming 3 Ryzen 1400 (upgrading to 5800X3D) 8Gb x4 3200 RAM Intel NVME SSD boot drive Windows 10 64bit In order to upgrade to the 5800X3D, I needed to flash the BIOS, which I hadn't updated at all yet, due to risk vs reward. Perhaps wisely, because this has been a nightmare. My current attempt - Flashed BIOS to v25, then to v31 (prerequisite for any version beyond that). Ran the Gigabyte EC FW tool (which I understand to ensure dual-channel RAM functionality with newer BIOS versions. I don't know how to verify that it did what it was supposed to, but it appeared to be successful. Then, flashed BIOS to v51 (most current version). This is the recommended procedure as I understand it. Here is where the issue appeared. The BIOS flashing to v51i was completed (or very nearly completed?) when the screen went blank. Not off, just showing black. It's worth saying that my machine is powered through a solid PSU unit, so there was no interruption of power or anything. Reading the experiences of others, I learned that sometimes any of these BIOS versions will sometimes not recognize the NVME boot drive, or will have some surprise RAM incompatibility, etc. So I have tried switching my monitor to the mobo HDMI port, removing the NVME drive, booting from a Windows repair drive, removing one or more sticks of RAM, even clearing the CMOS. No progress with any of these methods. Sure, it's possible that the mobo is bricked, but the examples I've found from so many others gives me reason to believe that there is likely to be some kind of glitch or incompatibility that, once resolved, would put me back on track. Some reported that rolling back the BIOS version is what helped them, but I confess I have no idea how to do that without visuals, since this mobo doesn't have a handy BIOS button (which I regret, but I was pretty poor when I first built this thing many years ago). I know that the 5800X3D is supported by two versions previous (v51g) to the current, so if I can roll back and update to one of those, there is a chance one of those may not cause the issue I'm currently having (since neither v25 or v31 cause it either). Thoughts? I'm really at the end of my knowledge here, and I'm tempted to just buy a b550m mobo and take a hammer to the old ab350m, Office Space style.

I bought an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X in 2020. A few months ago, I bought a Ryzen 7 5700X. I didn't try to replace my old CPU immediately because I had seen a lot of cases where people had their CPU come off with the cooler. So, naturally, I had to remove the previous CPU. . Since buying 3700X in 2020, I haven't changed the thermal paste for 3 years. It had the default paste that comes with the Wraith Prism Cooler. So, when I tried to remove the CPU a few weeks ago, it came off attached to the cooler. I had run 6 hours of stress test before trying to remove the cooler so that the paste would melt a little and be a bit easy to remove, but it didn't work. . I reside in the Asia region. Since, I am not an expert, I went to the official distributor of my region and asked them to detach the cooler from the CPU. Note: They used to be the official distributor of AMD CPU when I bought my 1st Ryzen CPU which was a Ryzen 7 3700X. Currently, they are no longer the official distributor. All CPUs of AMD are imported via third party channel. . After a week or two, they called me and told me that the cooler wasn't coming off from the CPU. If it were attached to the paste only, then applying some force would make it come off, but they suspect that the CPU body has been fused with the heat pipes of the cooler or melted a little and got stuck really hard because of high heat. If they try to apply more force, it might damage the top body of the CPU, and there is a risk of rendering the CPU dead or not working properly after the procedure. They asked me for my permission to try. I told them I would let them know. . Is there any way you would recommend that would detach the cooler without damaging the CPU? I don’t care about the wraith prism cooler. If they have to cut pipes in order to free it, I am cool with that too. But would it work? That is the question. Or would any method work? What do you recommend? Please let me know. . I am attaching a link to a few pictures. In those, you'll see some bent pins. It happened during the removal process. They told me that bent pins wouldn't be an issue and that they would be able to fix those. The main problem is detaching the cooler from the CPU.

I've recently built my first pc and am occasionally having some unusual thermals . I am unsure if this is normal so first my build: Asus b550, ryzen 7 5700x, radeon 6750xt 3xfan, 750W 80+ gold PSU, samsung 990 pro SSD, 1 TB hdd, 3 128mm front fans, 1 128mm back fan, some small tower-style cpu cooler, some sort of antec case that doesn't have good front airflow. The weird thermals i've run into include: GPU hotspot reaching about 95C max under extreme load (the average is about 88C), i don't know if this is okay for the hotspot, the average GPU temp is super low like 60C. My CPU would run at about 80C when gaming but it does sometimes spikes to like 90C, and this is without PBO. All of these temps i've evaluated using Hwinfo. My main question is what's going on with the GPU hotspot? My old builds hotspot was never above 85C. Also removing the front panel to increase airflow didn't really change the hotspot temp, but it did lower the cpu temps by about 5C. Is the CPU temps randomly spiking normal during gameplay? Should i reapply thermal paste? Is this possibly a software error (i have newest bios and drivers and everything)? Sorry if i seem really confused, i have never used a AMD gpu nor cpu so i'm unaware if this is okay for AMD specifically.

Every so often seemingly with no common cause this happens, it freezes for a few seconds then they go completely black and I have to restart it on my case. This has happened when gaming, when just idling, using text editors, browsing the internet etc. I have had this issue for some time and nothing has solved the issue, I went to a GPU driver that was more stable didn't fix it, changed PSU didn't fix it. The hardware all seems fine since stress tests do not replicate the issue and it is not a temperature issue as under these stress tests the GPU remained at 70 degrees and CPU under 65 while running furmark and aida64. Looking in event viewer the report of unexpected reboot is always preceded by two errors Source: Hyper-V-Hypervisor Event ID:42 Task Category: None General: Hypervisor launch failed; Either SVM not present or not enabled in BIOS. & Source: Kernel Boot Event ID:124 Task Category: (80) General: The virtualization-based security enablement policy check at phase 0 failed with status: Virtual Secure Mode (VSM) is not initialized. The hypervisor or VSM may not be present or enabled. I dabbled with virtual machines at one point and so enabled VSM and Hypervisor to do it but disabled them both because I didn't need them any more, but every time this issue occurs it has these two events. I have no idea what to do because randomly having to restart really does effect me as it would anyone, the only thing I can think of is to just reinstall windows entirely to try and fix it but that is a nuclear option that I would rather avoid so my PC isn't down for that amount of time including reinstalling programs. Budget (including currency): $4000AUD Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly gaming (games of all kinds from AAA to indie) and streaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): This will be my first build ever and I just want to ensure the build will be worth the value. Unless I have miss understood something the new Nvidia graphics cards out perform the AMD version and the new AMD CPU is out preforming the Intel variant and that's why I have gone for the cross build. I'm happy with only have 2tb of storage for now and will upgrade later down the line. the only other thing I am unsure of is the Case for the PC as IDK what the ventilation will be like and I've hear the 3070 produce a lot of heat. I am currently over budget by $250AUD but that is fine though if anyone has an idea of how to lower it please share. I will eventually use 2-3 monitors but at the moment I only have the one till I can afford it I've included a screenshot and a link to the Wishlist https://www.pccasegear.com/wish_lists?wlcId=1121194&action=wish_lists

Hi guys, my PC crashes randomly for no reason at first I thought it is due to Hard disk failure coz its the only old product (almost 10+ years old). A couple of days back I bought a new Hard disk and issue still persists. Can you guys help me with my issue. When I tried to stress test the CPU and GPU it Passed the test and then after a while I crashed randomly. I have attached a video in which it crashed instantly after booting. My Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M S2H RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4 3000MHZ C16 Desktop RAM (Black) GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 1050Ti 4GB HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB PSU: Antec VP 450W WhatsApp Video 2021-08-03 at 1.49.18 PM.mp4

Hi, I want to undervolt AMD Ryzen 5 3600X for the sole purpose of reducing it's idle and workload temperatures and keep it running under stock speeds. Is this possible without overclocking? I am using stock cooler and don't want to change it. My motherboard is Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite, revision 1.0 with latest BIOS. Thanks.

AMD cpu laptops with thunderbolt 3 discussion
alme55 posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
So i currently use a Dell xps15 9575 2-in-1 laptop as my main computer, for both work and gaming. specifically larger autoCAD 2D and 3D files, 3D Studio Max for image rendering and the Adobe photo editing suite. I definitely need more cpu power than this device can provide but the draw to this device for me was the touch screen for artwork and asset creation and the thunderbolt 3 ports for an eGPU and a 10gb NAS. After seeing a few reviews of AMD's new Ryzen cpu's and what they are capable of in laptops, it made me start to think about what the next laptop i upgrade to will be. But I haven't seen any AMD laptops with thunderbolt 3 ports which will be a requirement for me since i take the laptop between my home office and work office. Do you think once manufacturers start to put these AMD cpu's in high end devices we will start to see them with thunderbolt 3 ports or do you think this is this a patent that intel is holding onto for their laptop devices? i always thought this was why apple never used AMD cpu's, even in the new MacPro, because they have set themselves up in a thunderbolt 3 peripheral environment. I also considered that it could be an r&d issues as most of the devices we see released this year were already being developed a few years ago when intel was top dog. Anyway, i made this thread to see if anyone else was interested in this or if it was just me. If you do, share your thoughts. -
The FX 9590 is ruining at 5,1 GHz (not stable higher) at 1,62V with max temp of 78 Celsius useing a Noctua NH-D14. Why is it so low? Is Noctua just that good? Update: board is wonky as can be, and what people are saying i am asuming that the readings are wrong and/or it is thermal "throteling". going back to "safe" 4,8 GHz at 1,56V thanks for the info

i have an old dell desktop and im wondering if i buy a phenom will it work with the AM2 socket or do i need to buy a CPU that is AM2 or AM2+?

Hello, I am kind of new to the PC master race. I'm having trouble with wich CPU to buy, Intel's Kaby Lake G4600 Or AMD's Fx-8300. Just keep in mind I am a person who likes to be on a budget.

So im salvaging my moms old PC and she has a AMD CPU in it and i want to clean it off with my thermal paste remover so i was wondering if i could set it on a piece of toilet paper or anything and not break it Thanks

A rumour posted by Tweaktown sourced from reddit states that we could see AMD'z new CPU pack a whopping 8-core / 16 threads TweakTown then went on to say that back in August the CPU was hitting around 3.8Ghz, now we're seeing results of 4.2Ghz overclocked and 5Ghz using LN2 Original Post here

Hey all, I'm just getting my feet wet in building and was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions for a new CPU. I have been gradually been replacing components in a used Inspiron 570 that I grabbed on the cheap. Here are my current specs as I remember them: Amd Athlon II X2-250 with the cheapest cooler I could find lol Asus 970 aura 6GB ddr3 1300mhz Kingston (2009) MSI Radeon R7 370 4GB 500W Thermaltake PSU 60GB OCZ boot drive 1TB WD blue 2013 HDD Now I'd like to upgrade the CPU, if you all would recommend it, to a cost effective (sub 150) and more recent architecture. I intend this PC for gaming (hopefully maxing out skyrim special edition when it comes out) and for using the Adobe suite to create media (after effects and illustrator). I know I need to upgrade the ram as multitasking is painful compared to my Msi gt60 (4th Gen i7 4700mq with 16gb ram) Any suggestions?

Should I use DDR3 or DDR4 - First gaming build
Fyre posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I am building my first pc and I plan to be using it as a gaming rig. This is my plan so far -Here-. I want to use the AMD FX-8350 for its great value, but it seems only to be compatible with DDR3. I don't know if I should use DDR3 or DDR4. I saw Linus' video on it, but are there now games that require DDR4 to run? Or are the advantages of DDR4 greater now so that I should go for a different processor. -

There is one prime dilemma about the reading CPU Core and Socket temps via HWMonitor software. One is CPU Package Temp and another is CPU Temp. Many Misleading guides but is Package for the actual core temp and 'only temp for the socket temp or the opposite? The package seems like squirrel. No static reading but on the other hand only CPU temp seems very static. I am attaching a screenshot. Ambient is 28'C. Running browser, μTorrent and a movie. Derive. Am I safe?

One of Asus’ new TUF models, FX505DU, is probably the strongest variant in its Amd + Nvidia models. It comes with a Ryzen 7 3750H and a GTX 1660ti 6GBvRam. Upon research, it seems that the AMD processor is a near equivalent of the i5-8300H. But i was wondering, wouldn’t this processor be a tad bit too weak for this strong graphics card, and cause some bottlenecking? I don’t see that much people addressing this topic so i’d like to hear your thoughts on it.

Has anyone accomplished this? Successfully? Success meaning running at 3600 with stock timings and little configuration? If so please provide ram Name/ Part Number. Really appreciate input from those who were brave enough... "to go where no man has gone before" - Old enough to be OG Star Trek! Background and why?My X470 board smoked and took ram with it... So I only started this process due to the smoked mobo. I was going to, and still will, replace the 2700X in a year or two with 3950 or whatever makes sense then. But I'd rather not have to replace the ram then also. Before the ducks start quacking... I'm very familiar with the QVL's of both mobo and CPU, or should I say all 4 QVL's - ASUS & AMD both have 2 - 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen QVL's for the X570 chipset. One of the points regarding QVL's that seems to get lost in the forums is that QVL's are fluid... especially while the product line has barely stopped teething... So I would consider something off of the QVL if it worked plug & play AND runs at specification or very close. AND NO they wouldn't already necessarily have it on the QVL list already - they can only test X amount of memory. Optimally someone will present a RAM Kit meeting the criteria that is on both ASUS and AMD QVL list for 3rd Gen.Your time and consideration is greatly appreciated.Don - The SOlidwire

Have red a number of news about PS5 due to be released in fall of 2020. From TechRadar Oct 8 2019: Full article here. From WccfTech Oct 9 2019: Full article here. From Tom's Hardware Oct 26 2019: Full article here. Given SONY has selected the Ryzen Zen2 8C/16T architecture, would that be a crazy idea to build a PC rig based on the R7 3700X? Your opinions.

Hello all, I am new to the forum but not new to LTT, I am a tinkerer as a lot of folks are that haunt any of the forums. I build custom PC stuff just for the fun of doing it and you will often fin me commenting on case mod posts. the purpose of this thread is to have your say about why you use the CPU that you do. I only want your opinion about your personal choice of CPU. PLEASE DO NOT berate someone for their personal choice the topic is WHY YOU CHOSE YOUR CPU not why is everyone else stupid for thier choice. People choose the processor they have for sometimes very personal and private resons which are none of your business to judge and copmpletely inappropriate to comment on so don't put others down and call them stupid or tell then that they use a Sh**y CPU just tell me why you use what you have and why you decided to go that route. For the record I own and use both, none of my personal tech is new in fact most of it is more than 6 years old and some is more than 10 years old. My current daily driver is a 6 year old. core i7-3770 on a Lenovo Mobo coupled with an Nvidia GTX 650TI Boost which also happens to be about 6 years old. I game on it everyday and get about 80 fps on Medium high 1080p settings. Why do i run this processor? Honestly because the PC was free other than my time to clean everything, gut the Lenovo ThnikCentre SFF case and make all the stock parts fit into my CoolerMaster elite 430 series case.....there are a few mods in there but none are for better perfomance other than cooling, and power I can hear some of you screaming in the night , WHY??? I have done it because that is what I like to do with PC's Here are all the specs on my current toy Lenovo M82 ThinkCentre Motherboard; 03T8227 Q75 LGA-1155 8GB (2X4GB) Hynix DDR3 1600Mhz RAM CPU; Core I7-3770 75W GPU; Nvidia GTX 650TI Boost PSU; Thermaltake 600W 80+ Bronze plus the 24 pin to 14 pin adapter for the Lenovo mobo Storage; Intel Pro 2500 series 180GB SSD (boot drive) WD Caviar Blue 7200 RPM 500GB HDD Cooling; CoolerMaster EVO Hyper 212 air cooler 3X 120mm fans 2 in case and on on air cooler Optical drive; (X2) Pioneer DVD RW and a LightScribe DVD RW Case; CoolerMaster Elite 430 (modified) come on and tell me whatcha got!
