I really wanted to get the System76's Launch keyboard, but it's unreasonably expensive as someone who lives at the hat of America. Is there an alternative that is Fully customizable on Linux Reasonably priced Macro keys (preferable) Can save settings to firmware (preferable) multiple profiles wireless option (optional) Also, I'm looking for one that's the same requirements as above, but also: low profile wireless with 2.4GHz dongle 65-75% bluetooth option lightweight Has to be compact as I'm planning on making this my Steam Deck's keyboard that I can bring with me.

What are some goods alternative sources to get data about the things LTT/LMG covers? For example, I know https://www.rtings.com/ is great for things like laptop, camera, speaker, headphones, keyboard, mouse, monitor and TV reviews. (Also mods please keep this as a separate thread since it's not directly related to the discussion of the controversy).

Hello everyone. Sorry to bother you all with this not very necessary question but here it goes: Is it possible to set 2 or more colors at the same time with Steady light option in Mystic Light on MSI CENTER? If so, how can I do it? If not, is there any other software which can do what I like? Thank you for your time.

Hi I'm looking for a 104 key full sized mechanical keyboard. They keychron C2 and K1 have caught my eye but I'm looking for something that has the wireless features of the K1 with the normal profile of the C2. Does such a keyboard exist? More info: Mostly would be using it in wired mode but the wireless switching feature is attractive for WFH set ups when switching from my main rig to the office laptop. Based in Singapore. Thanks

So I'm coming to the end of my time with my pixel 3a and wanted to try some alternatives to Android on it before I really decide if I'm gonna upgrade or not. I'd really be looking for something that updates fairly quickly from stock Android security updates and is pretty stable. Don't really need bleeding edge functionality but am interested security updates. Anyone have some suggestions? Thanks in advance.

So I am considering getting one of the Acer Spin 3 models (https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/models/laptops/spin3) that are around $800 at that site (a 10th Gen i3, or a Ryzen 3 or 5 3xx0U), but all I need it for is browsing, email, banking, Netflix / Disney / Video chat streaming, maybe some touch-screen gaming, ham-radio device programming, and perhaps video presentations for teaching. But I would like a device that would last atleast 5 years, but preferably longer as I don't like updating my devices that often nor throwing away old devices. Are there some other devices I should be considering in this price range (I would pay bit more if the device would last closer to 10 years)? Thanks.

Hello all, I have a 2019 16" MacBook Pro. I currently have Bootcamp installed for gaming purposes while on the go, however when it comes to productivity, macOS is my preferred operating system. Unfortunately, my job requires a program called BlueBeam which no longer has a macOS version, this forces me to use a VM when I need to look at the program. I tried the ever popular VirtualBox, however Windows 10 clients don't appear to have video drivers on macOS hosts leaving the Windows VM unusable. Needing a field computer quickly, I was forced to try out Parallels on a free trial and do an inspection with it, it went surprisingly well. The VM has a Travel Mode which saves on power consumption, something very important when a 16" MacBook Pro is using its Radeon graphics. Parallels also seems to have a great video driver for office work with perfect retina scaling. My only problem with Parallels is that its a costly subscription at $80/y. So my question is, are there any alternatives to VirtualBox and Parallels that are affordable/free with good video drives for office work. Thank you.

I'm looking for alternatives to MSI Afterburner that can set fan profiles. Not interested in Sapphire or ASUS software, and EVGA's Precision is based on NVIDIA cards only. I recall coming across some premium software in the past too and wouldn't mind buying something with actual support from competent programmers as an option, if anyone knows the one I'm talking about. It might have been Everest/Aida64 but that doesn't seem to have it. Idk the full capabilities/usability of Speedfan. Would appreciate any help.

Long story short, i'm building a new pc and need to find out what motherboard to shove my Ryzen 1600 in. Right now i've got the ASRock A320M-DGS in mind. I'm not sure what the difference the "-DGS" makes, so if you know, do tell. What i'm saying is basically: *points* "This one, but cheaper and better." Here's the list of parts, just in case i did something stupid (which is not uncommon): https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/xPDmpb Thanks upfront. Cheers! :3

Hello all, I'm thinking on going itx for my new all AMD build, never had any itx cases so I'm pretty new to small form factor, any advice are welcomed. The question at hand : small computer store near me went bankrupt and selling this case : https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/cases/mini-itx/elite-120-advanced/ for 30 euros, white version also, I would buy white case anyways, but this case is kinda oldish, is it still good choice in 2019 or there are much better options? I'm willing to spend up to 150 or so euros on the case, but the CM one is very cheap, perfect size, and no windows and that kinda nonsense I don't want, the front panel is not ideal looking though, not sure how good is the build quality also, it's fairly cheap case, other stores sell it for around 60 euros. So should I go for it or not?

Hey gang, I've been looking into alternatives to the expensive eGPU housing for laptops and I might have found a solution, although more research is definitely needed. Using a virutal machine distributed execution manager, I was thinking it would be possible with some (crazy and custom) setup process configure your laptop to send its graphically intensive tasks (video games, video rendering, etc) to your more powerful desktop GPU within your local desktop computer via thunderbolt 3 or perhaps LAN. Just a thought, maybe there is a roadblock I can't see (disregarding the fact that you would have to design a program to allow such offloading). Thanks!

Hi Guys, You know what ? I like to think, like a lot. Feel free not to read this thread if you don't like very hypothetical ideas. As some of you might have seen, I'm currently building my very first custom watercooling loop and I REALLY LOVE understanding what I do and using my engineering skills to try & do it the way I think is the best. This topic is definitely something that I'd be doing with my own system because it would require a precision that I wouldn't be able to achieve and for a minor (if existing) cooling performance improvement. So ! As far as I've understood, the point of cooling a broadband computer is keeping its internal components temperature as close as possible to the ambiant temperature. Air cooling transfers heat to a rad from which heat will be extracted by one or more fans. Liquid cooling has exactely the same purpose, except that waterflow will help transferring the heat more rapidly and provide a more efficient cooling. So the whole point is taking warm water to some metal parts from which heat will be extracted by blowing. I've seen lots of things being done to increase this performance. Some of them may be only marketing and low efficient in real conditions but let's take an example : I owned a small form factor reservoir, the phanteks R160 which has an integrated heatsink on its back. The reservoir mounts directly to a fan so that it dissipates more heat. Which finally bringed me to this idea : how else could we increase even a little heat dissipation from a watercooling loop at a low price ? And there I came with this idea. In the industry, tubing is very often used as a heat dissipation component. Some of them have a heat sink circulary mounted all around them. This, in nickel + copper version would IMO be a VERY great idea but increase the cost and space usage way too much in a situation where cost and space management are very important to us. They would be a nightmare to bend cut and fit. I think it would still be interesting to see how it performs - Video idea ? ( : - There's an example image of this tubes : Which finally led me to this idea : Some mid range heat transfer tubes are just regular tubes that were twisted. They dont take more space, they aren't much more pricey to produce, don't reduce water flow efficiency but they maximize the contact surface with air so more heat is being dissipated with a same tubing length. Here's an example : I think this would be easy to manufacture both with PETG or Copper like Linus did on one of his video and could increase - even if very low increase - the heat dissipation and therefore the cooling performance. And it's so easy to make and visually speaking that I'm surprised that GAMIIIIIING stuff manufacturers didn't do it yet as the century idea. With catching titles like this : « up to twice the heat dissipation performance compared to classic tubing ! » with nice charts with no legend. Thanks for reading ! I'd be glad to have your thoughts about this. This is not at all trolling, just sharing some ideas with low impact but lots of thinking to be made. Vincent

Okay, so i purchased an XPS 15 9570. I love it. Its is amazing. However; what other laptops would you guys recommend within that price range (max $1600/$1700). I'm looking for something with amazing battery life that is good to look at, aesthetically pleasing and can game well enough on occasion. If i cant find any alternatives or anything i'll probably stick with the XPS but i plan to experiment and find something amazing. Anything out there that offers everything the XPS has to offer and more? Also im very big on IO - i'd love something with all the IO id ever need generally speaking but thats kinda an added bonus thing for me. Give me your best shot guys! Maybe Linus can give his personal recommendation? haha id instantly buy whatever he recommends honestly. But lets see what we got EDIT : Id also love a 2 in 1 that is amazing... that said tho, opinions on the XPS 15 2 in 1?

Hello, My name is (Inserdisplaynamehere), no literally, that's my name on here , ANYWAY, I have been spending a good amount of time looking for better alternatives to using Adobe Flash Player on Microsoft Edge or any other browser. I did get a notification as soon as I opened Edge that they were going to stop support for Adobe Flash on their browser by the end of 2020, so, that basically sums up what my question is. I just don't know where else to look. Thank you for taking the time to read this, I understand that this is pretty trivial and not really that important but, I have tried my own google search and have come up with programs that some developers use to create content rather than just for viewing flash content.

Hey there everyone, I'm looking to improve my cable management and had a go at it today to find my PSU cables for the motherboard being a bit of a problem, the issue is that the two cables that power the motherboard are as thick as meatloaf so I'm looking to see if there are any alternatives that work. Budget (including currency): Php 60k (more or less) Country: Philippines Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Generally for gaming; a bit of very light video editing Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hi guys! Here’s what I was thinking of... Asus TUF Z390plus Gaming Wifi Intel i5 9400F Kingston HyperX Fury RGB 8G 3200 (x2) Samsung 250GB 860 EVO (MZ-76E250BW) SATA SSD (for the OS) Seagate 2TB IronWolf (ST2000VN004) NAS SATA HDD (for storage) Asus TUF GTX 1660 Super SilverStone Essentials 650W 80+ Bronze Power Supply Cooler Master H500P Cooler Master Masterliquid Maker 240 I need help in figuring out the compatibility of these parts. Do you guys thinks some of these parts are bottlenecking? Or are these parts overkill for the intended use? I’m not looking into overclocking or anything, I only plan on just straight using it from powering it on. (Just playing pc games most of the time... like doom, fallout 4, etc; and doing a bit of light video editing every now and then.) Maybe you could also suggest alternatives? (Although there are not much choices here in the Philippines... haha.)

unraid NAS Setup - unRAID, FreeNAS & alternatives
Overlandr posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
I have been looking at making a NAS to run 4 x 2TB HDDs. I was initially looking at FreeNAS because it looks good and uses ZFS, but I want to run a Windows VM on it. For cost reasons, it doesn't seem reasonable to use Intel because I want to use ECC memory, but I would need a Xeon for that and they are more expensive for the performance. This is why I now want to use Ryzen because they have better performance/value and can use ECC, but Ryzen can't run stable VMs on FreeNAS, so I looked at using unRAID because it would be possible to run the VM and use Ryzen. The problem with unRAID is that it does not use RAID and has a slower Parity system and cannot utilize the full speed of the HDDs in the array, so to my main question. Does anyone have any alternatives to unRAID that use RAID or ZFS and can run VMs using Ryzen? Thanks. -
Dearest fellow LTT fans and American and Canadian cousins from another continent, For some reason the Node 804 isn't in stock anywhere, not even Amazon, till March but I have the rest of my components ready to go. So here I am asking for alternatives for the Node 804 for this build [I'm adding the gpu and ssd in the near future] as I would very much like to be removed from the grasp of my nearly 5 year old Asus stock computer that I upgraded [Intel i3-3240t - Asus GT 740 - 2x8gb Corsair Vengence DDR3 2333mhz - The case, mobo, and psu aren't available separately]. Really I don't need the 10 HDD's + 2 SSD's + optical drive and watercooling availability that the Node 804 has but I am making the entire computer with upgradeability in mind without spending over £100 including delivery. Thank you for your suggestions, Cabal

What are good headset alternatives. So what are good headphones and microphones that go together? For under £200 would be good. But I could try to get the items for auction/cheaper on ebay or another site. For example Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones and ModMic 3.0. Any other pairs you guys would recommend and have/have had success with. The mics could be usb mics like the blue yeti or if you do suggest an xlr mic then also suggest an audio interface! I'm not a youtuber I just play fps games so need a mic to talk to teammates. Doesn't have to be crystal clear. Future proofing is a nice touch.

I'm pretty sure, like myself, everyone here is sick and tired of hearing about 4K tv's after watching CES. I know it'll be another year or so before they start to come down in price. However with all the talk of "brighter displays," "nano-crystal tech," and "SUHD," I can't help but think this may be the pancea of display alternatives. What are your thoughts? Although I'm not a tech genius, I would appreciate, if you do share, that you please back up your opinion with some facts. Thanks!

I want an alternative to Adobe After Effects that is recently updated and has decent documentation. I can't afford the Creative Suite/Cloud and no matter how much I want it, I am not going to pirate it. Pirating software just makes me feel incomplete for some reason. I was once suggested Blender, but I don't know that Blender can do what I want it to. I want something that I can use to create videos like this (Pony-related. If you hate MLP or whatever, don't click I guess.):

Hello, and thanks for reading this already! I'm looking for a fan controller like the Sentry Mix 2, with a slider (cause I like that ), and preferably led lights . Why do I not take this one? I do need the 12V+ per fan, but the 2+ fans (I'm gonna have 4 fans), will look ridiculous . So any alternatives you like? Thanks in advance!

I Need to Find a Creative Laptop BUDGET: $2500 or more if absolutely necessary. Now to the details, I have just got involved in a couple of businesses that require me to use creative tools. I have entered the dance lighting business and need a laptop to handle the DMX controller for the lights, along with being able to hand programs for djing as we are planning to expand to lights and music. Also, I am starting to create a few websites, one of which for the lighting business, another for sales. I need a laptop with amazing color and pixel density to make professional looking websites. Finally, I am entering the game design industry and need a laptop that can effectively use all of the necessary programs (Unity Engine, Adobe Suite) So far I have come to the conclusion of a maxed out Macbook Pro 15, with the student discount the total would be $2547 before taxes. Before making my final decision, I would like to hear good alternatives to my decision. Also, If i am getting the macbook pro, lower models are not an option as they do not have the Nvidia GPU. Thanks in advance.
