I have an ASUS Zen WiFi Mini AX mesh system that is configured in Access Point mode, so it is not acting as a router, as I have that wired to an Edgerouter-X for QoS and ISP failover. This mesh system consists of one device (model SD4R) that has two ethernet ports (WAN/LAN and LAN), and two other devices (model SD4N) that has a single LAN ethernet port. If I need to make a config change, it is done by connecting to the SD4R, which here I will call the the "main AP". Currently, my networking flow is (see full explanation here) Two ISP modems > Edgerouter-X -> Main AP (SD4R) -> MoCA Adapter -> 1:4 coax splitter (one with a terminator cap, one goes to MoCA for ethernet switch, two goes to MoCA for other APs) -> One SD4N AP for each room. I will be evaluating whether there really needs to be the main AP (SD4R) in the same room as the router because the next closest AP is just one room away. So the room with the router may already have solid 5 GHz reception without its own AP. So, I was wondering: Would things operate normally to move the main AP to a different room on the same Coax splitter as the other APs, such that the APs would no longer be downstream from the main AP? That would result in the following updated networking flow: Two ISP modems > Edgerouter-X -> MoCA Adapter -> 1:4 coax splitter (one goes to main AP, one goes to MoCA for ethernet switch, two goes to MoCA for other APs) -> One SD4R/SD4N AP for each room. What have I checked and why am I posting this? I read the ASUS manual, and its "wired connection" diagram shows putting the other APs downstream from the main one. However, it does not say whether this is required for certain or all configurations (such as Access Point) I searched for other posts on these forums, and there was one regarding a similar question about having some APs on MoCA and some not, but that was a different layout - So I'm not entirely confident that the same thing applies to my situation or even my manufacturer. Why don't I just try it on my own? Well that would take a considerable amount of time to get the main AP in another room, and I think it would be helpful to have an up front answer for the community or even the internet's sake since... ASUS doesn't have a community/forum that fits this wifi product or all their products. They have specific forums for ROG and even ZenPhone, but not ASUS products in general. Also, bonus points to anyone that can tell me how I can connect reliably connect to my ScreenBeam MoCA adapters directly so that I can see signal related stats. I've tried connecting the device directly to the ethernet port of my PC and using whatever IP the directions told me to connect to, but a page for the device doesn't load at all.

I have this old router I've been using as an access point, it's an FX-ID3 from Evoluzn. This issue started right after a power outage a couple of days ago, it was working fine prior to that, now no device can connect to it. Phones would get stuck on 'obtaining ip address' for a like 30 seconds then stop, and try connecting again. I am able to connect to it if I reset it but when I disable DHCP and give it a static IP, 192.168.100.50(main router is 192.168.100.1), and connect it to the main router via ethernet, it stops working again. I've also tried resetting the main router as well, and even flashing a newer firmware but still could not fix the issue. Badly need help, I'm not good with networking stuff.

i currently have a EWS356 AP an its ok but the web ui is shit an any time need to adjust advanced settings i have to do a total reset as for some reason every time lock in desired settings i lose access to the web ui an any app control so with the EWS356-FIT do i get access to the advanced settings that are in the web ui but vi the fit app an are ther any screen shots of this an with the EWS356-FIT can i set 6 different ssid & passwords on the 5ghz band vi the fit app an not have to use the web ui an what the lowest tx power level i can set my current is for the non-fit is 11 which puts the signal way out into the street an somewhat into the neighbors yard which is slightly better then my old asus1750ac which blasted half of neighborhood but still sucked ? if the fit's tx power level can be set lower to like 9 or 7 i think that it would cover just my home an some of my yard which would be great right now my EWS356 is dead center of my home all devices are getting a good green signal at -45dbu 20feet outside my home is -64dbu so i think that if the fit's tx can be set down to 9 or 7 id be still good. also can the fit's bandwidth range be set as low as 20mhz

Hi all, I need help planning an outdoor run for a UniFi Access point. It is going to be on the side of my deck in the backyard. I am planning on running a direct burial ethernet cable 18" below grade parallel to the 240V power for the hot tub (which will be run inside a PVC conduit) On the side of the house there is a PoE switch which powers PoE cameras that I am planning to pull from. What I am worried about is the possibility of a lightning strike hitting the ethernet cable in the ground. There are not many trees around, but with a hot tub full of water near the access point I figured it could be a possibility. I would run fiber to the access point, but that would mean I would need to put an additional power outlet on the deck to power the converter which would not make much sense since the outlets near the house are only about 30 feet away and because of how expensive wire currently is. The way around this that I thought of is to put an ethernet to fiber converter behind the PoE switch. In essence this is how it would go: Main Switch in Rack ---> Ethernet to Fiber Converter ---> Fiber to Ethernet Converter ---> PoE Switch ---> Direct Burial Ethernet Cable ---> WiFi Access point The Fiber would isolate the outdoor devices from the indoor which would limit the chances of anything in the rack or connected to ethernet from being damaged during a lightning strike. The only problem I see is the Fiber converters would be plugged into the same UPS as the outdoor PoE switch. I am not sure if that defeats the whole point or if that does not matter? Total run is about 125ft long from the orange to the purple in the map. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello all. So in my household, we need a couple routers to cover the whole house. We currently have 2 Asus Zenwifi XT8 setup in AiMesh, (1 main connected to modem, 1 Node connected via MoCA). In the last area, i have set up an old asus router (AC66U) in AP mode connected via MoCA to the Zenwifi AiMesh. Couple of questions; 1) I have set up the AC66u with the same SSID and password as the AiMesh network. Is this correct or should the AP have its own name? This area is mainly accessed by my parents who arent very tech literate so my main goal is for it to work seemlessly without having to reconnect to another network manually. 2) The AiMesh system is Wifi 6 enabled, but the AP is only Wifi 5. How will i know when the device has swapped over to the AP and does this happen automatically?

Hi, Recently my Asus AC-RT88u wireless router (https://www.asus.com/au/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rt-ac88u/techspec/) has decided not want to connect via WAN port with my TP-link VX220-G2V. After 10th factory resets and troubleshooting I've given up. Moving on I'm now looking at a decent replacement Wireless Router with atleast 4 ethernet ports and WiFi 6 to connect my smart things hub, 2 room with wired ethernet. I was also thinking on buying the same brand to prevent conflicts. ( https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-ax1500/) Possible replacement? Any help on this would be great. Cheers.

Hi, Recently I got the Mercusys Halo H70x mesh (2 pack) for home use. It was working okay sometimes but other times my phone would lose signal and wouldn't change stations (I'm referring about the halos) messing with my signal and internet. For the record, it's a one floor house with a couple of bedrooms and a hallway (not a big house a mesh system is an overkill) and the signal when it works reaches as far as the street right ouside my house. Other times the internet speed would just drop and come back on its own. I am lacking the expertise in network stuff and router settings. With a quick chech I did I noticed that the channel my "halos" are using is very crouded. I wanted to change that but... no option to do so. Does anyone maybe know how to change channels of the Mercusys Halo H70x mesh??

Hey guys, I have a gigabit connection at home and one main router which can accomodate such a speed. However, I need two additional access points to make sure I get a stable WiFi connection throughout the whole house. The access point will have an ethernet connection to the router, thus I was thinking about a wired (and thus an access point and not a repeater) conection between them. However, one access point will be below the pool and and needs to be strong enough to penetrate a very thick concrete wall with ease. I do not have any experience with access points so I was thinking about using a router (e.g Asus RT-AX88u). However, I do not think it is the best solution. Does anybody have an idea how to solve my problem efficiently? My budget is similar to the router I suggested. Thanks and greetings from Scotland

I am sure this situation is not unique, but I would appreciate any help. My home network consists of a custom mini pc running Untangle for routing and firewall, etc. No issues with that. The problem is my Asus AC-5300 has bitten the dust. It has been functioning as an access point. It has had descent range but not the best. Question: can anyone suggest a replacement that will have at least as good range, if not better? Open to any and all suggestions. I truly appreciate. It is hard to find reviews, etc on range.

Hi all, So I have an issue that I hope you can help me with. I have a smartphone that is connected to an wireless access point. When I ping from the Access Point(AP) > smartphone, I experience high and inconsistent ping times compared to when I ping from the Access Point > a non-smartphone device(e.g Linux laptop) which gives low and consistent ping times. I have tested this with different routers, as well as a different brand of router, and different Android smartphone devices but I still am left with the same problem. This has also occurred with other Access Points in a different location. To add, if I ping the smartphone > Access Point, the ping times are normal(low and consistent). I have attached two screenshots: Ping times from AP > Smartphone Ping times from AP > Laptop. I would greatly appreciate any information regarding the high & inconsistent ping times from the AP > smartphone. Does anyone know if this is a hardware, software or Android network priority issue?

I'm operating a small business and we just got internet for our 4000sqft office space and we need some access points for our 1GB internet. We have Comcast installed here and we would rather not use their access points so that we don't need to pay their monthly lease on it. Are there any recommended access points for a unit of this size? I've heard of Ubiquiti AC Pro being good but not sure if there's a better alternative? Our budget is to keep it under $400 if possible. Would a range extender be better or an access point is more suitable? Also, what modem/router would be good to use as well so that we don't need to use Comcast's devices?

Hello guys, I've got few Cisco AIR-CAP3602I-E-K9 access points from a friend and would like to set them up in autonomous mode. They currently in the lightweight mode / WLC operating system. The problem is, I can't download the image I need without having a contract / puchased APs directly from Cisco. Getting an original cisco image from the internet is nearly impossible.. soo. I was wondering if any of you with Cisco access could download this image for me ->> https://software.cisco.com/download/home/284362257/type/284180979/release/15.3.3-JF14i I know it says "Aironet 2600i Access Point" but according to the product page (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/wireless/aironet-3600i-access-point/model.html#~tab-downloads) that's the right image. I would appreciate it A LOT! Thanks!

I have a 500mbps plan and 2 routers. The ISP provided router is a 2-in-1 router and modem and the other is an aftermarket router that i bought as an upgrade for my previous ISP that i carried over to my current. The Modem-and-Router is the Huawei HG8145V5 That is the TP-Link Archer AX50 router which i have now i made into an access point. The ISP router easily delivers 300+mbps effortlessly while the TP-link access-point struggles to get past 100mbps. There isnt that much load on the TP link either as i made my family use the ISP router while i get VIP access on the TP-link. They DO sit far away from each other about 5~6m of distance and are connected by a CAT5e cable. ^Is that the issue the distance and/or the cable? or is it the DHCP/IP setting? If not then what is? Why do i get drastically lower speeds on the TP Link?

Hello, my boss has an outside gate away from his house where he has a wifi camera system and a remote gate opener that he needs a strong router or AP for. The problem is he has a barn with metal in its frame that he believes is interfering with the signal giving him heavily intermittent service beyond the barn. Are there any devices any if you could recommend for his situation? Off the top of my head I thought maybe he could use some kind of beam devices to send a straight line connection from device to device as opposed to a wide area signal that keeps getting sapped by the metal framework. Thanks in advance for any and all help o/

So my house has 1 router, and everyone uses it, of course. I'm a huge gamer so I want the best wifi connection as possible, but that isn't possible sadly. I do have a small Netgear extender, but it is not as impactful as I thought it was, and "boosts" my wifi speeds up by very very tiny amounts. Also, our modem/router is in our basement, and I am on the second floor, or third floor if you count the basement. I've been doing some research and found that Access points might be the way to go, but I can't find any that work with what I want. Also, I know Wifi mesh extenders are a option, but I've seen the reviews and they last for about a week or so before dropping speeds, etc. Please recommend Access points or other extender types that are VERY WIRELESS, meaning I don't have to wire it to my router or modem, and that it has very good speeds and travels far. Thank you!

Wifi in My folks Home has always been historically bipolar good days, bad days, good weeks, bad weeks, etc. There have been problems with signal strength, speed consistence, Especially in my room. Do I need to bridge my ISP's Router with something new? Do range extenders actually work?? Home (Duplex) layout: ISP router is in the middle of the house but within 1ft (30cm) of the wall we share with our neighbor to the north of us. This area is directly below the Bathroom (very strong signal here), my room is on the other side of the bathroom to the east, my bed where I stay up all night using WIFI, and my gaming PC are placed on the far end of my room. I would like the Inconsistency in strength and speed to stop preferably for ever. I've tried changing the channel after consulting Wifi Analyzer but the improvements are marginal. Powerline adapters have been considered but it would only solve the problem for my PC and not my phone, the wiring in this 1970s house maybe also too old to support this solution. ANY help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Guys i have a pair of the devices at home and want to set up a connection to another house. Upon connecting each device to my laptop i can see they come pre-configured and they communicate on their own network (smth like 192.168.88.2 and 192.168.88.3). Does it matter if they are in the different range than what i use at home? (192.168.100.0/24) Also they are set in Bridge mode, does that affect or i need to change their whole configuration? Anyone with more expertise in this field can offer advise, i never used RouterOS, i just tried it with WinBox.

I have a 500mbps plan and 2 routers. The new ISP provided router is a Huawei 2-in-1 router and modem and the other is an aftermarket TP-link router that i carried over when i bought it to replace my previous ISP's router. The Modem-and-Router is the Huawei HG8145V5 That is the TP-Link Archer AX50 router which i have now i made into an access point. The 2 routers are daisy chained. I have the TP-link in Access Point mode and have it cover the house where the Huawei can't reach. Initially I did notice that sometimes there would be some times where the WIFI just ..lagged? but these were very infrequent and only lasted about a few seconds. This wasn't noticeable on my laptop and wasn't much of an issue on my phone. Recently, however things have gotten really bad. Its come to the point where when it does cut out its fkin unusable. My phone would just stop loading anything that needed an internet connection. Playing Just Cause 3 on my laptop, the game would pause to let me know they can't reach the servers and i have to go into offline mode, this happens several times during a session. Its become really fkin annoying and i want to fix my setup once and for all. This here is an example of what a cutout looks like on my phone. The download/downstream just stops and i get the dreaded, "connected without internet" for a solid few minutes. What can I do to fix this? I have fiddled a bit with the router settings before and now how to change some of them. But I'm not all to familiar with changing DNS settings and stuff like that so I might need some guidance. Your help and advice is much appreciated.

Hi, I am having an issue with the WAP that was provided with my apartment, it is a Luxul XWR-1200 and I have tried to factory reset it so I can use it as an additional AP whilst also using the one provided by my ISP. The issue I am having is when I attempt a factory reset, the manual says that all the port indicator lights should flash, but only the port 2 led flashes for me, and then when it boots, the AP is creating WANs with new SSIDs but these are password protected and I can not see a password on the sticker or in any documentation. If anyone has experianced this or something similar, or knows how to properrly reset this AP I would be super grateful. Thanks. p.s. when connected via ethernet I can not access the WAPs config page as I just get a "site cant be reached" error.
