THIS CAN ONLY BE SOLVED BY MUSIC PRODUCERS Whenever I try to take a sample sound into waveform free or ableton DAW, I want it to be on the piano roll with the keys (C,d,e,f,g,a,b,c) as the same note as the sample sound. A donk sound in my case, (for hardbass) this is possible in FL studio but it's paid (Please don't tell me to pirate it, please). I want the piano roll to convert the note of the sample sound onto the keys, you can also tell me some plugins for this. (if there are any lol) I'm trying to figure this out for a week now, any help is greatly appreciated. P.S: I'm very sorry for such a specific question, I hope it's allowed. Thanks.

Budget (including currency): Around 2500 USD, Max around 3000 USD but prefer lower. Country: Sweden Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Plugins and virtual instruments. Also Gaming like CSGO, Fortnite, WoW Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hi, I have been using a Macbook Pro for the last 4 years and thought it was time to upgrade, and instead of getting another mac I thought about building a custom PC as I only use it in my home office now. It has been many years since I last built a PC, and thought maybe you guys can check my potential build I made. The computer is going to be used for mainly Ableton Live production with virtual instruments and recording, but also mixing and mastering in Pro Tools. Virtual instruments I am using: Most of Native Instruments library, Keyscape, U-he Diva, Serato Sample, Serum etc. I am also thinking of doing some gaming again, previously played CSGO at a decent level so want a stable gaming rig aswell. In CSGO I usually play 1024x764 Resolution at low settings so this should be a incredibly overkill setup for this. But I would also be able to livestream when gaming and possibly music production. (otherwise thinking of getting a Elgato HD60+ and using my macbook as streaming pc) Here is the list of components: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900x GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 12GB DUAL OC V2 Motherboard: Asus Rog Strix x570 Gaming Ram Memory: Team Group Xtreem ARGB 32 Gb M.2 SSD: Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB Second SSD: Seagate Firecuda 510 NVMe SSD 1TB PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 11 850W Cooling: be quiet! Dark Rock 4 Case: be quiet! Pure Base 500DX Svart OS: Windows 11 Home Also thought about getting either of these monitors: BenQ Zowie XL2540K/2546K I also went with air cooling even though I know it sounds more, but I have 0 experience with water cooling so I am going to skip that. Thanks in advance Best Regards David

Ok so here's the issue... I have recently just purchased Ableton Live Suite 10, with a new 1TB SSD. My PC currently holds a 120GB SSD (with my OS on) and a 1TB HDD (to store other files, games, work etc). So, I install my new SSD and format it into my system. As the old SSD is nearly full, showing a red bar on 'this pc'. Anyway, I come to install Ableton and I definitely choose the correct location for install, on my new, empty SSD. But every time I do so, the installer tells me that I'm trying to install it on my nearly full Cdrive. Which I stress again, am not. It's really starting to make me lose the will to live, as Ableton was expensive and being stuck not being able (pun unintended) to download it is starting to really grind my gears. The way I see it, I have two options. 1. Try and replicate my OS files onto my new SSD, if I can? Is it possible to turn another drive into the OS one? 2. Install OS onto new empty SSD, then wipe the old one. Is this possible now I've already formatted it into the PC? What should I do?

THE SOLUTION: BALANCED TRS CABLES I ain't no clickbaiter, and this solved my problem. Not quite sure why, but I guess the EMI was happening directly in the cables connecting the speakers to the interface...? The moral of the story is to try the simple solution first, I suppose. This is the set I purchased which solved my issue: https://www.amazon.com/Audio-2000s-E26106P2-Right-Angle/dp/B00JORUEDI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510349873&sr=8-3&keywords=balanced+trs+right+angle Here's my original post: Ok so this ones a doozy: I have some wack EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) in my audio system, which I believe originates from my GPU and bad mobo wiring. Basically what happens is if I try to use any external soundcard (Scarlett 2i4, Steinberg UR12, Behringer Q802) through any USB port, front or rear, I get interference in my speakers for any motion on screen. Mouse movement, scrolling through windows, and watching a video on YouTube all trigger a small high pitched whine. There's also constant buzzing in the speakers which I thought was a ground loop, but after using a ground lifted power strip and balanced cables, its still there. I have scoured the internet for days on end looking for a solution to this, but alas I couldn't find anything other than "buy a new motherboard" so I attempted to work around the problem. The hissy-whiny noise is not proportional to the output volume of either my computer or my soundcard, so I set them as loud as I could and turned my speakers down as far as sounded reasonable. I installed EqualizerAPO to boost my Windows sound output, and it works fine for everything *except* Ableton, which is of course where I need it to work the most. (This is because Ableton interfaces directly with the soundcard to reduce latency, and EqualizerAPO needs to run on top of the Windows MME driver, so it can't boost this output.) In Ableton Live, I level my tracks on average around -15dB to allow headroom for louder sounds. The problem with this, is that as far as I can tell, Live has no audio output volume control. There's the master volume, but it can only boost by 6dB, and that causes peaking within Ableton. What I'd like to do is to boost the output of Ableton live in software before it hits my soundcard, so I can keep my speakers low and avoid hearing the horrid EMI noise. Either that or find a magical solution to my EMI problem which doesn't require buying a new motherboard. If you have any ideas at all, please share them. If you need any more info on my system, just let me know. Thanks guys. *EDIT* I don't know why this was happening before, but Ableton was just being quieter than usual, and since this is the first time I'm using it with this speaker setup I didn't notice. The sound output issue is now pretty much solved, I'm only interested in fixing the EMI issues at this point.

Hello all, I'm thinking I need to switch to a Mac, but the price points are a little crazy. I'd use it for audio and video editing. What's the best way to get an affordable device? Buy the lowest options available and upgrade the hardware myself? Buy upgraded used hardware? I'd need at least an i7 and 32gb ram in order to effectively run the programs I'll need for work. Thanks!!

I have recently acquired a Behringer Q802 USB Mixer and i want to use it to record audio in ableton live 10. I have no idea what i need to do in ableton to start recording from it. I already have the ASIO drivers installed. I have poked around in the audio devices under abletons preferences but i cant see my mixer in there. Maybe Im just being dumb. Any help with getting the mixer to show up in ableton so i can record from it would be much appreciated. I am a beginner with all this audio stuff so please forgive and silly mistakes. Thank you in advance

So I started on Mac using Ableton and have used it for about 5 years. A little over a year ago I made the switch to PC through a discount gaming PC witch fairly decent specs. For the most part Ableton runs completely fine unless I add way too many VST's on the track and overload the CPU. However when it comes to scoring for video I have reached a terrible problem. I can add a video to any blank project and everything is fine. Once I come back and open that project or drop video into an existing project, things go belly up and Ableton crashes shortly after. I have reached out to Ableton support and they have told me to install special codecs but also that my NVidia graphics card has shown instability on several of there tests. I'm about to build a new PC around the $2,000 range and I would like to avoid this issue on this new build. Does anyone have any good information about what GPU is more compatible with Ableton? I also do a lot of video editing and casual gaming so a nice GPU is something I'm striving for. Desired parts: GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB Video Card CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 3.5 GHz 16-Core Processor Full Build Here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Lorestrum/saved/#view=H6ht8d

There is a huge community out there of electronic music producers, who frankly havent the faintest idea what specs they require for their music production needs.

Ive recently come across a dual socket 1366 motherboard along with a pair of xeons x5660 for $120. i was thinking about picking it up some time this week and using it as my temporary pc mainly for ableton live 9, nas, and some light weight gaming until i manage to save enough money for a ryzen build. I do have some questions about this build and im going to list them down below. 1st question. can a graphics card, a raid card, and 3/4 usb 3.0 pcie cards run at full speed in a pcie 2.0 slots? Theres 7 pcie 16x slots running at 8x. 2nd question. Is there a Windows based nas program? Once i get enough money for a ryzen build, i will be strictly using this as a htpc/nas. 3rd question. What gpu would you guys recommend for streaming and fortnite? Fortnite mainly. I want to run the game at 1080p with high/epic view distance and textures and everything thing else set to low or off.

In terms of a DAW, any VSTs I'd need, etc. I plan on producing rock/electronic (the latter would probably be way less expensive) I do not have a guitar, or the time to learn how to play. I'd rather just use a Kontakt library, but I'm not sure which one to go for. I have some experience in FL Studio (don't ask how I got it) I've made a couple demo songs with the stock instruments just for shits and giggles. Not really proud of any of them. I like FL Studio's workspace but I'm not sure if learning another DAW would be justifiable. Help would be appreciated.

Currently using 2011 iMac (well over due an upgrade), wanting to go as portable as possible with laptop 12-14" and happy to switch to windows, minimum quad core. Usage: Ableton Live 10, Max MSP with rme ucx and push 2. Usually working with 96khz, 24/32 bit audio. Heavy audio processing/sample based, willing to learn tricks to chill CPU. Only using Live's built in plugins. Interested in Razer Blade Stealth ...but will the processor be powerful enough with it's quad core 1.8Ghz i7-8550u? Any experience with the Razer and/or other alternatives welcome? similar portability, build quality, better performance if possible. Budget max £1500ish Cheers in advance PS...please no mac vs windows bulls**t. I'm interested in performance, portability and aesthetics only, not OS or brand.

Hi! I'm buying a new laptop for music production with Live, and i can't really make up my mind on the CPU... the choice is between i7 7700HQ and the new gen i7 8550u. I'm struggling trying to figure out which one would give me most headroom when using heavy guys like serum and massive. As for what i found on the net, the 8550u seems to be a little more performing on single cores usage... so i guess it would be a little better for music production, since in this field single core speed matters more than multicore speed? Does this make any sense? Any personal experiences with the 855o7u+Ableton?

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone could help me with an idea... Basically I got a new Hybrid Cajon drum and I was going to make a song using all the samples I got from it. I like a Canadian YouTuber called Andrew Huang and he edits this type of video amazingly. I'm not new to making this style of beat with samples and such, where I'm lacking is in my editing skills (was thought Premiere Pro in college but it didn't teach me much as was only an extra module) but im very curious on how he synced up every sound with the video: He hardly just dragged and dropped everything in there so i'm very curious do you guys know how I could achieve to make something like this? Just even in the basic quarters of the screen or something. I know there is a video editor in Ableton technically but as far as i'm aware that only renders the top lair so I still don't know how he done this. My clips are only about 1 second long as I'm making the sample and editing it into a song similar to how Andrew does it here. Any tips? Thanks! Hope to get help off someone soon as plan on making this sometime this week! Thanks in advance!

Hello guys, Just wanted to check out if this forum has any people playing around with ableton? I am new to producing but would really love to learn how to get my musical mind transfered into a program. VST's and other starter packs? im kinda clueless, watching youtube vids and trying to copy what others do to get a hang of it. Thankful for any help.

I am into music production and many times get stuck while producing..... I use ableton as my main DAW and it uses enormous cpu processing Thinking about assembling system specifically for DAW. Suggest CPU (both intel and AMD) focusing on Multi-Threading and Multi-core processing ! *(Have already considered upgrading RAM) *(Will not consider upgrading to an SSD) Currently using a mobile Intel i5-5200U @2.20GHz (Low to mediocre loads only; Pathetic) P.S. : DAWs and the VSTs used in it are like CPU Hogs

First Ever Build | Audio Production Workstation
djyoungins posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
1. Budget & Location $2000 USD but I'm trying to keep it pretty low because I need to buy another laptop now. 2. Aim The purpose of this build is to be a complete audio production workstation for producing and editing music and sound design projects using Ableton Live 9 (which supports multithreading), lots of VSTs, and lots of small-size wav samples. 3. Monitors I plan on running a single monitor for now with plans on a second monitor in the future with a minimum of 1080p. 4. Peripherals I will need to purchase a keyboard, not looking for anything special here. I'm probably just going to use some stock stuff I have laying around from 15 years ago. 5. Why are you upgrading? I'm upgrading because my 5 year old MBP is tapping at the bucket and I no longer have a "functional" machine. It's fan is running high all the time, I'm losing control over keyboard and trackpad, and the screen will go black and freeze up the machine until a hard restart. The main thing I'm worried about is how audio is streamed and written on hard drives. I've never used SSDs before but I hear that they way audio is handled can be pretty volatile to SSDs in terms of their longevity if I were to use it as a scratch disk. I'm thinking of using one SSD for OS and programs, the second for VSTs and sample library, the 1TB for backups and other stuff, and either the 2nd SSD or the HDD as my scratch disk depending on the new info I may be able to learn here. I'm also looking to make this build pretty silent which I hear the 212 EVO is not good at doing, in addition to certain PSUs which I have no idea how to pick out. The type of environment this computer is going to be in can reach temperatures of potentially 80 degrees F, so if you guys can point me in the direction of potentially better fans, I'm all for it! Also, I am looking to buy a hardcore GPU in the future so the PSU will need to reflect that potential power draw. I've spent 2 weeks of research (as it's all my computer is capable of doing now) and this is what I came up with so far: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($350.00 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Directron) Motherboard: Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($162.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($99.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($87.88 @ OutletPC) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($87.88 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.89 @ OutletPC) Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($107.99 @ SuperBiiz) Power Supply: Thermaltake Toughpower 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($68.00 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home Full - USB (32/64-bit) ($115.49 @ Adorama) Monitor: Acer H236HLbid 60Hz 23.0" Monitor ($119.99 @ Newegg) Total: $1280.09 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-10-02 04:04 EDT-0400 TLDR of stuff I'm worried about: 1) SSD as a scratch disk for audio, 2) Silent efficient fans for rooms that reach 80F degree temps, 3) Silent, efficient PSUs with room to handle hardcore GPU in the future. Thanks a bunch! Next thing I'll worry about is my VST compatibility. -
Just poking the community about musical minded people and seeing what falls out! I'd love to hear what you guys have made/written/performed, so either drop a link below, with a description, or PM me if you're shy about sharing your creations with the public so freely. If you use Ableton or FL, I'll be more than happy to share my knowledge with you! If there's enough interest in this, I'd love to set up a Skype / Discord group to share ideas/music with each other!

Hi guys I am trying to sell my Ableton Push MIDI controller that I hardly ever used since I got it in October, and I am trying to find the best and safest place to sell it. I am trying to sell it on craigslist but, I am just getting scammers/bots. I want to do eBay or Amazon, but I am afraid of getting screwed too. So I guess my question is, where should I sell it, LTT classifieds, ebay, or what?

Hi, I am looking to upgrading from the Oxygen 41 to the Nektar Impact LX88 Controller Keyboard for better key feel and responsiveness as the M-Audio Oxygen key press is very squidgy and plastic. I would like to see if I can get a decent soundcard to achieve the best low latency results for use in either FL Studio or Ableton. I am not a music producer, I just enjoy playing and creating bits and pieces for my own fun. Any suggestions? I've been googling and have gotten lost in information overload and keep ending up on external usb devices with inputs I would never use. Thanks

I am trying to run build a CPU that will work well for audio production(specifically ableton live), and my goal is to have it run better than the top of the line macbook pro. what kind of CPU is best for accomplishing this task? Also, if anybody is familiar with audio production, can somebody direct me to a website that benchmarks audio production pc hardware?
