Hi guys. Quick question. I have a friend that plays on a 900p monitor. Wishes to play dota 2 on med-high settings. And wishes to play Watchdogs. On med-high. He has an a10-7850k and an 8gb 1866 kingston ram. Budget at most is $100. Told him to replace his PSU to a corsair vs450 if he wants a discrete gpu and his current psu is a generic one. Someone told him to just buy another 8gb 1866 ram instead of buying a discrete gpu. And if he does buy a new psu, i doubt that the money left to buy a discrete gpu would even have noticeable difference. I doubt he can buy any gpu thats brand new at all Im not familiar with AMD's architecture (increase in APU performance via additional ramstick) So... What should he really opt for? Would an additional ram improve performance in gaming in his case? Or just buy a psu then save enough for a discrete gpu (rx 550 maybe)?

Hi guys, I want to ask whats the best graphics card for this APU A10 7850K, I know that R7 is integrated in the processor so I want to add a dedicated GPU. Maybe an R7 260X? I appreciate your comments

So, i have an AMD a10 7850k in a small htpc case, because at the time it was all the space i needed. Now i want to upgrade and throw in a graphics card, but i can only use a low profile card. I know that i could upgrade the case and get a better GPU, but I'm not snobbish and don't mind having these "low quality" cards. So my question is, whats a better card for me? The r7 250 in dual graphics? or the 750ti, with effectively an 860k? ​Sorry if i put this in the wrong section, or did something else wrong. I'm new here.

But my best friend wanted something small, portable, capable of running DotA2, CSGO and "in extreme cases, BF4 if he ever decides whether to buy it for PC, or buy it with a PS4". The A10 7850k does just that, and because you can just add a GPU later on, it is a natural choice for "cheap now, more badass later". However, not long after he complained he couldnt play any game with the onboard GPU. Now, i set up the system hardware, but left the system install to him. He did the usual install - ninite - DL steam stuff - play. So when i looked at his system later on, i couldnt find any errors. He had the correct drivers even (or so it seemed back then). So to solve this issue, i let him borrow my old Radeon HD7950 GH edt. And not too surprisingly, everything was fine with him. (the most badass gaming machine he ever had was a laptop with intergrated graphics and intel HD4000 and a PS3). So my other friend also has one of these setups, with a different harddrive. Nothing that changes performance as it is a SSD. However she had no issues what so ever. Games ran just fine (except WoW was a bit hard on her system with ultra settings, she got around 14-21FPS at best, probably due to the recent graphics update). So i dug around, and this weekend my friend came over. I decided to find out what the hell is the issue. Main issue was that HE had downloaded the WRONG drivers (he grabbed the drivers for dedicated GPUs, not their APU drivers..... user error). So with drivers fixed, games ran normally, but not really well. (we're talking DotA2 struggling to get 30FPS at 1080p). Which made no sense with those settings as ive seen a few benchmarks (in languages i do not understand) featuring DotA2 with higher FPS at 1080p. So, here comes the interesting part. It turns out AMD has TWO issues going for them. First up is that while the APU is supposed to automatically assign the "correct" amount of shared RAM as "VRAM" depending on the amount of RAM avaliable (according to AMD, 4GB system RAM will cause the APU to grab 1GB for itself. 8GB will cause it to grab 2GB for itself). Now the reason we grabbed the 16GB sets is very simple. They were on sale and cost just 15USD more then a 8GB set.... So, thats why. Too good a deal to ignore. In theory, the APUs should have used 2GB with auto settings, however upon inspection, it only used 1GB. Now i know that the APU cannot effectively use the whole 2GB frame buffer, however we did find out after some tinkering, that it can easily use 1,2-1,3GB. Which means at auto settings, it will push the remaining 200-300MB onto the pagefile on the SSD. Which is way slower then any DDR3 RAM. So, first fix - force set it to 2048MB in BIOS (For ASrock mobos, this setting is under "Advanced -> North Bridge -> Shared Memory") BAM - DotA2 at max settings now ran at 34FPS with stock settings for GPU and CPU clock. now for overclocking this baby (prepare for cringe AMD stuff) So, overclocking an APU using a A88X ASrock mobo. "awesome in theory, kind of a mess in practice" AMD Kaveri APUs has something called "APM". This stands for "Adaptive Power Management". What it does is this. AMD specifies the maximum voltage a APU can use, CPU and GPU wise. By default these settings are 1.55V for CPU and 1.4V for GPU. Now, that does not mean the APU uses 1.55V at stock operation thought, it is more like 1,25-1,3V at most. Anandtechs initial Kaveri Review featuring OC showed that they got their sample stable at around 1.3V with stock settings. However, this simplifies overclocking for noobs, and makes it a painful mess for those of us with some experience (i wont say im a great overclocker, but i have been tinkering around with overclocking of CPUs and GPUs for a couple of years now and i am starting to get a better understanding of it). So, what does this mean in practice? Unless you want to really drag out the absolute maximum OC. Just leave APM on, do not touch CPU OC in bios (cuz then your need to turn APM off, which means A LOT of time being spent on finding actually stable voltages, which was a frikkin pain in the arse). Instead, use CPU Overdrive in CCC to overclock the CPU. We got my friends 7850k rock stable at 4.3GHz (up from 3.7GHz). For the GPU, i discovered that you can easily and effortlessly turn the GPU clock up to 960MHz without ever touching the voltages. At 1028 and 1100 we observed random disconnects from the monitor, which we quickly diagnosed to be lack of voltage. Unfortunately i do not have the Valley benchmark "save files" right now (we forgot to save the first few anyway). However the scores: at 1080p with stock CPU and GPU settings (1GB DDR3 VRAM) - 673 at 1080p with 4.3GHz CPU and 960MHz GPU settings (2GB DDR3 VRAM) - 723 Sure, these are not great scores. But considering these are onboard, in a test that really doesnt favor AMD (for some reason, AMD always scores worse in Valley then intel CPUs + dGPU does, even if same dGPU). BUT, what was the end result of my findings (with the massive sample size of TWO Kaveri systems?) GuildWars2 (GW2 is DX9/10 because it was originally planned for crossplatform with the PS3 and XBOX360, this is why you see so shoddy FPS.... if only they would bother to use a better DX version. That and we jumped into World vs World, which is 3x teams of 80 human players duking it out in big castles with a metric shit ton of particle effects) FPS before OC + VRAM increase - 19 to 25 FPS after OC + VRAM increase - 29 to 37 DotA2 FPS before OC + VRAM increase (with correct, and latest drivers) - 26 to 31 FPS FPS after OC + VRAM increase - 39 to 60 FPS (depends on settings. But just going easy on ambient occulsion and AA helps a lot) Heartstone who cares, it was 300+. its a card game with boring animations. Warcraft 3, Frozen Throne 59-60 FPS Stronghold Crusader Extreme edt. 70+ FPS Farcry4 at 3440x1440 Ultra settings - 65-79 (OK, that last one was a joke, that was my 295x2 + i7 4790k) Anyway, ill keep updating this post with a few more FPS numbers as i get him to play more games. Now, bare in mind, these are ONLY with iGPU. When he used my HD7950 GHz edt. he had WAY higher FPS then this. So, keep that in mind.

So I have an old Radeon HD 7770 Ghz Edition lying around and was considering giving it to a friend who currently has an A10 7850k. Since the R7 250X is compatible with AMD Dual Graphics, and is just a re-brand of the 7770 Ghz Edition, would it work? Or would it not, because maybe the 7770 Ghz Edition has a different BIOS?

I consistently getting BSODs on the computer I just finished building. All drivers are up to date and Windows updates have been applied. It usually happens when I'm downloading something from Steam or Origin but has happened intermittently as well. This is my first time building a computer so i understand that this could very well be an easy fix but I am currently at a loss. Thanks in advance for any help. Hi, I've been doing some googling to see if I could find some solid performance numbers of the A10-7850k in terms of its GPU but couldn't really besides the fact that it can get ~30fps on med on bf4(at an unknown resolution and unknown other settings). A few of my sister's friends wanted to help build a graduation/birthday computer for her but is on a very limited budget and so the only thing that came to mind that fit the needs were the APUs. For the most part the CPU performance will be more than enough for her needs. The only thing I'm actually worried about is the GPU side as she does play a ton of L4D2 and occasionally other horror games such as Outlast. So if you guys could just let me know if this can handle that i'd be great. If not other possible recommendations? Trying to build a whole computer from scratch with approx 400 dollars that can handle those tasks. OS doesn't need to be considered into price, I can get free OSes from Microsoft Dreamspark program.

can someone benchmark this for me? I've seen linus video on the 7850K crossfire with a r7 250 but i really want to know how this r7 265 performes in crossfire. I need these benchmarks to decide whether i go with the r7 265 or the gtx 750ti. I haven't found any good benchmarks/reviews on this combination.
