The question is this, I am installing 4 1TB Samsung 860 EVOs in RAID 0 as my data drive. Will the over provisioning feature of Samsung magician work? If not, is there another solution available, perhaps a software RAID solution rather than BIOS based RAID \\Notes: I know RAID 0 isn't "safe", nor am I implementing it specifically for performance reasons, it is for storage capacity for a gaming pc and the performance boost of SSDs. I know I could of made a raid with redundancy and more storage with HHDs for much cheaper, this is what I wanted to make and I am happy with the decision. I also considered JBOD, but wear leveling is important to me. I am not "finishing" the build until i get either, the RTX 2080 Ti SEA HAWK X, or an equivalent aio water cooled card from another reputable manufacturer. I made a post earlier this week concerning a vibration that I noticed in my new Samsung Galaxy S4. I'm writing this to warn potential buyers of this strange effect. Initial post: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/13307-samsung-galaxy-s4-potential-defect-looking-for-help-from-s4-owners/?hl=potential When I remove the S4 from my pocket and transfer it from hand to hand, or if I'm playing a game and I tap the screen a bit harder than usual, the entire phone vibrates in my hand. It feels much like the vibration function in the phone, and it is. The vibrating motor in the S4 doesn't appear to lock up, so any time you jar the phone you can feel it resonate in your hand. To be clear, this is not the motor actually running. This effect persists when the phone is completely powered off. After some investigation at a local Bell store, I learned that this is the case for all of the S4's that I tested (2 live demos in store). After playing around with the Sony Xperia ZL I found that it also vibrates if dropped onto someones hand from a height above 5cm. I tested the HTC One, and could just slightly feel the vibration- It took a good hit with my finger to produce anything. I know this is a minor issue, but it really does make the phone feel cheap, and I'm reluctant to use it because of this. I bought a case for it but i'm really concerned about dropping it, as if something is loose directly from the factory then who knows what could happen after a few drops to the ground. Let me know what you think of this, and to all the current S4 owners, tell me if you can reproduce this effect by doing the following: 1.) Hold the phone in your left hand near the top and tap the back of the phone at the bottom left corner with your finger. This should cause the entire phone to vibrate. I know this is extremely specific, but I seem to inadvertently tap the phone often and it vibrates every time. 2.) Lift the phone a few centimeters above your hand and let it go. When it lands it will begin to vibrate. This is analogous to transferring the phone from hand to hand, which happens often - this phone is HUGE!

I had the same issue as Slick and his brother, bombed for a week and then somewhat became decent. I also noticed about a 30 minute to 1 hour less battery life when using PC to USB than wall to USB. Did a controlled test, having airplane mode on and the screen on the entire time viewing the exact same thing. What is your experience?

The feature rich Samsung Galaxy S4 is now available in just about every major market and, as expected, the demand for the smartphone is very high. According to a report from CompareMyMobile, the Galaxy S4announcement has also generated a 127% hike in valuation requests on older Samsung phones. The availability of the latest Galaxy S smartphone has also resulted in a 29% increase in trade-ins of older smartphone models. The report also says that these kinds of numbers were previously achieved only afteriPhone announcements. Percentage of price drop on top 5 Samsung devices The firm expects a similar picture in the USA and increased trade-ins of the older market are expected to result in lowering of price tags of older models. Modern tablets come in all shapes and sizes, and even more variety may be on the way. SamMobile has published purported details on several upcoming Samsung slates, including two models with 11" screen. One of those will be the Nexus 11, which is being built in cooperation with Google and should run a stock version of the company's Android OS. That machine will apparently feature an 11" Super PLS panel paired with Samsung's octa-core Exynos 5410 processor. There's no word on the pixel density of the display, but we can probably expect a resolution of at least 2560x1600. The existing Nexus 10 has a 2560x1600 display, and the Chromebook Pixel boasts a slightly higher 2560x1700 resolution with an unusual 3:2 aspect ratio. SamMobile doesn't name its source, but the site claims the Nexus 11 will be joined by the Galaxy Tab 11. The Galaxy-branded tablet will supposedly share the same screen technology but sport a less exotic dual-core Exynos 5250 SoC. A microSD slot is planned for the Galaxy Tab, SamMobile says, and the same feature is "rumored" for the Nexus 11. I wouldn't hold my breath for Nexus-branded device with SD expansion, though. Despite the presence of microSD slots on loads of other Android-based devices, the Nexus 4, 7, and 10 all go without. If you prefer smaller screens, Samsung appears to have several new models in the pipeline. The most interesting is the Galaxy Tab 8.0, which is supposed to have a quad-core Exynos 4412 processor and a 1080p AMOLED display. That model is likely being prepared to do battle with Apple's rumored iPad Mini refresh. The SamMobile story also mentions the Galaxy Tab Duos 7.0, a super-sized phablet with a pedestrian 1024x600 display but support for dual SIM cards. As smaller tablets in the 7-8" range grow more popular, I wouldn't be surprised to see device makers experimenting with designs larger than 10". Microsoft's Surface tablets are already pushing toward 11" territory with their 10.6" screens, and I suspect Intel's upcoming Haswell microprocessor will spawn a stack of convertible tablets with 11-13" displays. As long as the weight can be kept down, larger slates do have some appeal—especially for couch surfing, where portability is less of a concern. Guys could someone tell me what type of panel(TN,IPS,VA,PLS etc) does my Samsung SyncMaster B2230 use? I tried finding it online but to no avail. I know there are visual tests that help determine what panel but I would really like to see a proper source that tells me exactly what type it has got. Please help. Thank you.

I am on the market for a smart phone that does gaming really well. I'm talking about games like GTA Vice City, Real Racing, and Shadowgun Deadzone. The reason I am asking is because I am really trying to wrap my head around how to tell what a phone's GPU is capable of. On computers you can easily look at the specs and make sense of it all but on mobile phones it baffles me. For example the Adreno 320 on the HTC One & the PowerVR SGX 544MP3 on the Samsung Galaxy S4. TLDR: I don't know how to tell a smart phones GPU specs, also what phone has the best GPU between the HTC one and the Samsung Galaxy S4?

A post on XDA developers has cased some unnecessary drama due to people misunderstanding the title: [info] Rooting will be impossible on newer stock kernels Samsung will be implementing a new feature which prevents processes (such as malware, exploits or SU) from changing from a normal user to root by using SETUID. However a custom kernel will still allow us to achieve root access. Apparently Samsung and LG are not able to push OLED TV development enough so that production of affordable consumer grade TVs can start. Instead they will now focus on 4K TVs with regular LCD panels just like every other TV company In my opinion that's really sad. I think a better image quality is more important than just having more ppi. And TVs would get much slimmer with OLED panels Tell me your thoughts on this Source: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-05-21/samsung-lg-misstep-on-tv-screens-creates-opening-for-sony.html

Well, where do I start? This is my first build ever, but I find it quite impressive nevertheless. I have been quite, you might call it, "inspired" by Linus in the choices of components, and the four hours spent on cable management I blame on TinyTomLogan ;D Well, let's get this started, before I bore you way to much by just jabbeling about... Specs: Cabinet: CM Storm Stryker (which I can't understand why Linus&co haven't unboxed/reviewed already) MoBo: MSI Mpower z77 CPU: Intel i7 3770k Cooling: H100i (with Noctua NF-F120PWM, inspired by Linus) Thermal grease: Artic Cooling Silver 5 GPU: MSI GTX680 Lighting Sound: ASUS xonar DGX PSU: Corsair AX760i RAM: Avexir Mpower 32gb cl10 1600mhz @1.5v w. breathing yellow LED. SSD: Samsung 840 pro 256gb HDDs: Seagate 2T and an old WD 500gb Additional intake fan (bottom): Silverstone air penetrator (white lights) Sleeved cables: Bitfenix sleeved cables (white/white) 24-pin, 2x 8-pin ATX, 6-pin ATX, 8-pin ESP & front panel audio OS: Windows 8 64-bit The 32gigs of ram seems kinda like overkill for many, but it is not that much of a difference in price between 16 and 32 gigs. And, at the same time, i have already maxed out using 24gig ram (when using Premiere + some other programs) so i guess it was well worth it. I hate the look of the Noctua NF-F120, but luckily it is not visible when it is in the roof of the Stryker. The breathing Avexir MPower ram is beautiful, as you can see in the quick little "trailer" at the bottom of this post The Bitfenix Sleeved cables (white/white) makes for such a clean look inside the computer, but on the backside it is a whole other story... xD The computer is named after the awesome song by NitGrid called "Hyphycide" That's about it, hope you found it interesting. The short video down below shows the PC (obviously), and remember to notice the "breathing" Avexir Mpower RAM :D Song; Oxygene by Jean Michel Jarre And, Linus, if you read this (or Cooler Master for that sake): Why haven't you unboxed/reviewed the CM Storm Stryker? It is a beautiful case, it is big, well built and nicely designed :D Cheers!

It's always nice to see older devices receiving updates even if the OS was released 6 months ago, this is good compared to many other manufacturers, hopefully it won't cause any battery life problems... The updates includes several features from the GS 4 but it's still missing things such as the new Camera UI as well as air gestures which will probably not make it due to lack of required hardware. However keep in mind this is an incomplete update, Sammobile says the full update should be released in June. You can follow the link below the source if you want to flash the firmware (you'll need the international i9300 Exynos-based model) but do so at your own risk. Hey community of the LTT forum!! I need some help with a decision. Currently, a Sandisk SSD and a Samsung 840 SSD are both on sale on NCIX Canada, and are about 10$ of each other. The samsung being more expensive. What I would like to know from everyone, which one will you choose? I'd either be installing it in my tower or my ultrabook. Here are the links for everyone's info: Samsung 840 120GB http://ncix.com/products/?sku=77210&vpn=MZ-7TD120BW&manufacture=Samsung%20Memory%20%26%20Storage&promoid=1281 Sandisk 128GB http://ncix.com/products/?sku=75142&vpn=SDSSDP-128G-G25&manufacture=SANDISK&promoid=1281

I have an old (or some years at least) 1000GB Samsung HDD that I have been using in my MacBook Pro. I used Windows a lot, so I had one partition Mac OS and one partition Windows (you guys know how it works...) After building my gaming rig, I wanted to get my stuff from the Windows partition (on MBP) over to the much more redundant RAID storage on my rig, but the Windows partition is not usable at all! The Mac OS partition is just fine, but the Win partition is not readable (I get the partition index but that’s it, and I can’t seem recover anything – can’t even open the partition without the computer freezing and begging for shutdown). Since the Mac OS partition is just fine I figured this is not a crash or sector failure, but I really need those ‘lost’ images (and other stuff) from the Win partition back  Any ideas? Thx!

Samsung is preparing to unveil a new high resolution laptop display which could set a new standard for notebook displays: a 13.3" QHD 3200x1800 panel, that gives it a whooping 276 PPI, which is more than most smartphone and tablet displays, let alone notebook displays, with the best of them only coming in at 227 PPI (Macbook Pro Retina 13) and 239 PPI (Chromebook Pixel). Samsung says the display is supposed to be 30% more efficient than current LCDs and is set to be launched this week. Source: http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/20/4347540/samsung-qhd-high-resolution-ultrabook-display What do you think about the current state of notebook displays? I personally think we can't be rid of 1366x768 displays too soon, especially considering many >1000$ notebooks still have that terrible resolution. I therefore hope Samsung starts pushing higher resolution displays to their lower end notebooks to provide some competition in this area

I had an offer to trade my Galaxy SIII for a Samsung Ativ S..What are your thoughts on windows phone 8? Should I go for it; try a new platform, or should I keep my SIII? I use basic news services, social media, dropbox google drive and instagram...The apps ain't the problem..The problem is the basic things that windows phone is missing...I've heard that the screen rotation doesn't lock...the notification sucks, multitasking sucks..music app sucks.. Are all of these things true? Are there any other WP8 bugs or bad pieces of code? Thanks

I am looking to get a new smart phone and i am stuck between the Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC One. I know the build of the One is superior to the GS4, but looking at the specs i see the GS4 has a faster CPU and the android skin looks more user friendly (and looks more light an airy compared to Sense 5). i am really leaning to the Galaxy S4, i would love to here you guys opinion on this topic. Please Help! I'm really stuck!

From Tom's Hardware by Jane McEntegart http://www.tomshardware.com/news/CyanogenMod-10-Galaxy-S4-Nightly-Builds-ROM,22442.html "Samsung's Galaxy S4 hasn't even been available for a month, but already users are able to ditch their stock install of Android with Samsung's TouchWiz user interface and exchange it for something a little cleaner. That's right, CyanogenMod, one of the most popular custom ROMs among Android users is already available for the Galaxy S4. CyanogenMod's Steve Kondik has revealed that CyanogenMod 10.1 has been ported to the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919) and will be ported to other models once the CyanogenMod team gets a hold of the hardware. "The first nightlies will go off tonight," Steve wrote on his Google+ page on Friday. "There are a few rough edges still, but will be ironed out in short order and you should be able to use it as your daily driver without serious issues. The touchscreen on this device should support Android's hover events," he added. "I'm looking forward to see what the community can come up with using this new feature!" The Galaxy S4 packs a 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED PenTile display, either an octa-core Exynos 5 or quad-core Snapdragon CPU (depending on the region in which you're buying the device), 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, a 2-megapixel camera up front, 16GB or 32GB of storage, and a 2,600mAh battery." ---------------------------------- I personally think this is fantastic and one of the reasons that in terms of long term support, the HTC One may have issues competing with, especially if I have to own a device for 2+ years. Between the 3 big flagships (the One, the S4, and the Nexus 4), the S4 is the only one with an SD card slot, and it now has (unofficial) support for stock android, and I bet it will continue to have unofficial support for long after the One, but that's just my guess. Edit by Kilmer: added quotes as per rules!
