Hey everyone, A while back I had a system configuration as follows: Coolermaster 690 II Advanced Case (Windowed) Intel Core i7 3820 @ Stock Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler Patriot Pyro 1866Mhz RAM (@ 1333) Gigabyte X79-UD3 Motherboard Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM 60GB Patriot Wildifre SSD Antec EarthWatts 750W Galaxy GTX 680 2GB Asus Xonar Phoebus Sound Card I had purchased 2x OCZ Vector 128GB SSD's to go in RAID 0 and it was all fine and dandy for a few weeks then randomly BOOM, one of them starts not being detected and I lost my data. I tried re - RAIDing it, but the same thing happened. Then I took the "faulty" SSD to my mates house and tried it in his PC and wouldn't even detect in his BIOS. I knew then it was faulty. After that I used my 1 SSD for the time being and then randomly that stops working and I tried in my mates PC and that too wasn't detecting either. My HDD has had no issues and I have tried HDD in all the SATA 6Gb/s ports, nothing happened. What could my PC be doing to kill my SSD's? Has anyone had this issue before? Thanks for reading :)

So, I'm getting a PSU in the 760W-860W range, and have pretty much settled on the Corsair AX Platinum, because they fit in really well with the look and requirements of the build. Now, the main question is what's the differences are between the AX and the AXi series. Obviously there's Corsair link, which I don't really care about as I will probably barely use it, if at all. All I'm worried about is power delivery, reliability, ripple etc. I can currently get the AX860i for about £30 cheaper than the AX860. Or I could get the AX760 for about £10 cheaper again. # So, anyone's views on this would be appreciated! And if anyone can point me to some specific benchmarks and reviews, that'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys :D

Hello. How much wattage will my PSU need to have? Building a pc with a 3770K (OC 4Ghz), Maximus V Formula, 16GB,1 SSD and 1 HDD. My case is the Bitfenix Shinobi (with window). Thanks in advance guys.

What is the best PSU for sleeving the cables? Right now in my build I have a OCZ ZT 650w. If that is good, or it doesn't matter what PSU I get then please tell me. Thank you.

Hey! Im thinking about getting a new PSU, but since I want to sleeve it myself, I need something fully modular and really want something with straight pin outs and pin ins.. Meaning I dont want crossing wires or 2 wires going in to one pin in the other end like Corsair does it. Has to be between 850 and 1000watt, which is probably overkill, but I want the head-room. And has to be atleast 80+ Gold. :) I seem to remember Linus saying that Silverstone has straight pin out and in, true or false?

Thought everybody whos thinking about the new haswell cpus should read this... .If you get your freak on by an extreme low power state you may need to get a new power supply if you want to use the new C6/C7 low power states of Intel's upcoming Haswell processors. These new power states require a power supply that can maintain a minimum current load of 0.05A on the CPU exclusive 12V2 rail. The previous ATX12V v2.3 design guidelines called for a minimum load of 0.5A on the CPU power rail, so a lot of older and budget power supplies will likely not meet the new specification, resulting in stability or shutdown issues once the system enters the C6/C7 power state. Unfortunately, there's no way to know which power supplies are fully Haswell compliant as PSU manufacturers do not usually report the minimum load on their specification sheets. Older or bargain basement power supply units may be unable to achieve this, and might become unstable or trigger a UVP/OVP shutdown once the system enters the C6/C7 power states. This is because the previous ATX12V v2.3 design guidelines for Ivy Bridge and its predecessors only called for a minimum load of 0.5 Amps on the CPU power rail, hence a less sophisticated internal feedback loop/protection could be used in older or cost-reduced offerings, which will not support the new standards. Most worryingly, PSU manufacturers (even the enthusiast grade ones) do not usually report the minimum load on their spec sheets, so it is virtually impossible for us to come up with a list of supported units at this time. To ensure a smooth transition, mainboard designers and system integrators have been told to implement a BIOS-level toggle to enable/disable the new C6/C7 power states. http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/intel_haswell_low_power_states_could_require_a_new_psu.html

Hey Techies! I'm getting a PC soon that has as "estimated wattage of 705W" With this system, I'm getting a 750W power supply (Corsair Professional Gold 750W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply) Is this enough of a 'buffer' or should I up to a 800W?

Hello! I'm new to the forums, I'm looking for a new Power-Supply-Unit to fit my custom build, as I wish to upgrade to a 650, or a 660. (Preferably the 650 as I don't have much cash at the moment) I'm running my computer on a Xigmatek 400W PSU at the moment, it's bent at the side and is an awful PSU. I was looking around for a 500-600W PSU, as a 650 and an FX 4100 sat at 4.2GHZ shall run fine on a 500-600W PSU. I managed to find a cheap offer from Dino-PC (I know right, their prices are usually off the roof) I found a Corsair VS 550W PSU, for £30.00. Which is a total bargain for me, as I'm just looking to upgrade to a 550W. Although, I realized that it would cost £38.00 including delivery and at the moment I recently purchased a new keyboard and I don't have alot of money. So I continued my search on Corsair Power-Supplies on Dino-PC's website, and I came across a 450W Cosair VS. I was wondering, the PSU comes with all the necessary cabling such as 20+4 PIN for the motherboard, and comes with a 6 pin PCI-E connector for my GPU, (650 runs the same) Would a Corsair VS 450W be able to run these specs? And be able to upgrade my GPU to a 650? AMD FX 4100 Quad Core (Bulldozer) @ 4.2GHZ Asus GTX 550 TI 1GB Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) 1333MHZ Asus M5A78L-M LX V2 Seagate Barracuda 500GB HDD Seagate 250GB HDD If so, I could purchase the Corsair VS 450W now. I know it would run these specs easily, but would it be able to handle a new GPU upgrade to a 650? Instead of the 550 TI? Thanks guys! ^_^ Links to the PSU 550W http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/-b-NEW-b-550W-Corsair-VS-85p1621.htm 450W http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/-b-NEW-b-450W-Corsair-VS-85p1620.htm

http://nl.hardware.info/nieuws/35183/cooler-master-haswell-voedingenprobleem-een-mythe-alle-voedingen-geschikt Since Haswell is going to be so power efficient and uses so little power at idle the discussion in some other places has been that some power supplies aren't able to run a Haswell CPU because they cant deliver clean power at such low power. If you are planning on a new Haswell PSU is that something you need to check before purchace of a PSU? Does it need to have a certification "Haswell Ready" or something?! I saw this (link above) on a hardware site in my country that CM in this one claimes that theirs are ready for it. In the item it also mentioned Corsair and other brands... What are your thoughts on this? All (not dino age PSUs) from a decent brand will be good for a Haswell system and no need to check for a Haswell Ready thingy? Maybe some specs important? Singlerail? Or anything above 80+ xxxx certification?

Hi, I have been trying to find the perfect PSU for my build. I know the specs I need and everything, I just can't find the one. So here is the challenge I present to you: Find a PSU in my price range that has the following: $80 dollars or lower, may be able to squeeze a bit. 600-700w Doesn't have to be modular Good Sleeving! - EMPHASIS How to get bonus points: Red color theme. Under budget. Be awesome. Thank you!

I've just watched Linus' video on the NCIX YouTube channel , and at around 3m3s, he recommends using a non-modular PSU. Could someone please clarify why, as I am left a bit baffled...

Hey all, I have a strange problem: when I turn my computer off my PSU (and I am sure it is the PSU) emits a very high pitched noise, almost like a low-volume coil whine. When my PC is turned on, there is no problem. But as soon the fans stop spinning (etc.) it starts. Does someone know this problem and how to solve it? It does go away if I flip the switch at the back, but that shouldn't be necessary. It would be great if someone could help me. - Wauthar

Hello everyone, I had a little "accident" yesterday, first I'll put up all my hardware: (CPU) AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition (Mainboard) MSI 880GM-E41 (GPU) Gigabyte Radeon HD 6850 (PSU) One of these very old (china made) ~400 Watt max (I was about to buy a new one... really...) (CPU Cooler) Scythe SCMG-2100 Mugen II (If you need more information, just tell me) So far so good. So yesterday I found an old CPU fan from my AMD Phenom which I thought was a good idea to use as another little fan to make air flow a little better in my PC and yes I was quite bored but I thought it was still an idea. So I plugged it into my motherboard, started everything up and wanted to find out what would be the best positioning for this little fan. I started up Prime 95 along with SpeedFan to messure everything but I realized that my fan was still plugged in which would have falsified my results. Quickly I pulled out my phone, looked up "Can you unplug fan while" and found this little post: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=591070 Convinced that it works I just unplugged it while it was all running (probably my worst idea ever). After bout 5 to 10 seconds my PC shut down and the LEDs at the front (I only have like a large one, probably for status(?)) was left blinking. Shocked of it I unplugged my power supply and was waiting for a little while. After that I plugged in my PSU again and was hoping that my PC would turn on... but it didn't. I tried everything, unplugging my graphics card, my RAM, my CPU but nothing worked at all. I'm about to send it back on warranty and will probably get it back repaired (also going to get a new 750 watt PSU along with it ;) ) but I am still curious about what happened when it shut down. I was discussing with a friend for quite a while and he first thought it was my poor Mainboard or my CPU but we were not 100% concerned about these thoughts, so that is why I am coming here to ask people for their opinion. I also tried putting another PSU to my PC but nothing happened. Then I checked if my HDD or GPU had any issues but luckily they hadn't. Unfortunately I can not check my CPU because none of the mainboards that I have access to have an AM3 socket so all there is left that could be damaged is either the mainboard (very sure because otherwise the PC would at least turn on) or my CPU (gonna send both in for repair btw). One thing I tried this morning was hooking up the old PSU to my mainboard again and trying to start it up. The fan inside was slowly spinning with almost no noise (it is usually quite loud) and I unplugged it again... I guess it's broken but please tell me what you think (I do not have a voltage meter around me, sorry). I just wanted to get a little discussion about this going because I just started a computer science schooling/education myself and I like to understand hardware much better and this is why I started this topic. Hope there are some good explanations out there... (I am German btw so excuse any mistakes ;P)

I have a corsair HX1000 and was wondering if plugging in the 6 pin on a graphics card to 12V1 and the 8 pin to 12V2 would be a safe thing to do. I want to balance the load across the rails as best I can, and this seems like an ideal way to do it, but something tells me that this is wrong.

Hey guys i have a kind of an issue and concern because i don't know if it is a good idea to change where the power supply's fan should be, i have this issue because if i flip it i most likely be able to hide the ugly 8-pin and 24-pin cables, my power supply is: COOLERMASTER EXTREME POWER PLUS 500 WATT (no 80 plus certification at all) Here is my system: Specs just for the sake of it: FX 6100 M5A97 EVO 8GB. kingston blue (1666 MHz) Asus HD 7770 Dirct CU II Cooler master Extreme power 500 Watts Cooler Master Haf 912 TPi-Link PCi-e wireless network adaptor 150mbps (recycled from an old computer) WD 600gb HDD

I will be upgrading soon and I am not certain what PSU I will need. My system will be: Asus Maximus VI GeneZ i7 4770K Corsair H100i GTX 780 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance RAM 1600MHz WD Caviar Blue 1TB OCZ Agility 3 60GB OCZ Agility 3 120GB Corsair Obsidian 350D I am going to OC my CPU and GPU and I am planning to sleeve my cables. Because of that I want a modular PSU, I do not know how much Watt I will need though.

Good evening everybody. I'm going to be as detailed as possible. I just bought the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP4 TH motherboard and have the following issue: When I turn on the mobo it will shut down immediately, turns all the fans on, but doesn't enter BIOS, or anything. At first I thought it was making contact with something making a short, but I was testing it over its box and antistatic bag. I went to the place where I bought it and they told me that one of the pins in the socket was bent and cause the short. And the tech guy test it and it work fine, I went back home and try it out, just to encounter the same problem. I turn it on, and it shuts down instantly. So I went back, and it worked just find there, telling me it was the power supply. So before buying a new psu, I tested out my psu with another board I have, and it works just find. So once again I try it on the GA-Z77X-UP4 TH, and again no luck. I eventually decided to buy a new one, a 1000w PSU, the technician tested the mobo with a 400w power supply, so the 1000w would do great. So I tested it and again the same problem. So in my desperation I did a jumpstart (connecting the green cable to ground) while it was connected to the mother board, and it started, at first it would just show the white logo screen and restarts again, so after a few waits, I start pressing DEL to see if I could enter the BIOS and I was able to after a few tries (only leaving DEL press would let me enter) and exiting the BIOS after. That help and the resetting cycle stop and continue, I was able to install Windows, and other software. And I even updated the BIOS, since the person who checked my mobo told me it could be a BIOS version compatibility. But even updating it to the most resent (F9) it still has the same issue, and I cannot understand why it won't work properly with my PSU. And the PSU works well with the other motherboard (ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z) I wanna thank everyone for your time in reading my issue and I appreciate any answers. The store would not make my guaranty valid due to not finding anything wrong with the board.

Hi everyone, I recently posted asking if my motherboard blew my SSD's that I had in RAID 0, but I forgot to mention also, I wanted to downlock my CPU to stock from an overclock and have the lowest volts possible. So i kept decreasing the volts slowly and slowly, until I hit a BSoD. Then I turned the volts up again and same thing happened. I did it again. BSoD again. When I cleared the CMOS on my board I lost my RAID 0 array and then after that my SSD's starting screwing up. Could that have screwed my SSD's? They were 2x OCZ Vector 128GB if that helps and my motherboard is a Gigabyte X79-UD3. Cheers :)

This is my problem, when playing Crysis 3 (example of a demanding game) my screen may suddenly go black and say no input detected, and my headphones will start buzzing. this only happens when i am playing demanding games and my fan speed is set to 100% or so Mobo Z77 Pro 3 CPU i5 3570K stoc clock Cooled by Arctic Freezer 13 GPU AMD RADEON 7950 Windforce core OC to 1030 MHz memory is at stock 1250 MHz power is at 120% all this from AMD overdrive settings PSU (i blame this item but am not sure) Modecom Carbon 620W RAM 6 Gb DDR 3, 680 MHz (edit) upgraded to Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz 16 Gb (4x4) CL9 Win 7 Every time this happens i have to force shutdown my PC, and that is never good. This has happened 4-5 times now, the thing is it's non consistent so i don't really when it might happen.

Hi, I have a Corsair GS800 PSU. It can change its colour between red, blue, white and "off". But it always changes back to blue after restarting the PC. Any ideas how to stop it?

I unfortunately do not have the time to go and wrap my own cables. I defy another father of 2 year old twins to come out and say he has PLENTY of spare time to custom wrap cables. That being said, I am looking at the OCZ Fatal1ty 1000w that comes with black individually sleeved cables. An easy cop out for sure. I know other companies make custom color sleeved cable packages (Corsair, SeaSonic, Silverstone), my question is are all the modular plugs for PSUs compatible with one another? For example if I wanted mix the Corsair (or any other brand) Blue wrapped cables with the black one on the OCZ, can I do it? Thanks!
