Recently built myself a water cooled 1060 i7 6700 k 32 GB unfortunately, for my school program I need a laptop. I've been on Kijiji and I have three options a straight trade for a 970m 4K 6700 HQ MSI ghost Pro A $300 train ride and straight trade for an Alienware 17 980m with 4K, 6820HK and 32 gigs of RAM Or a two hour car ride plus $500 4 on MSI 1070 6700 HQ laptop I'm strapped for cash but I know the 1070 is the best performer graphically is it worth it for first or second year CAD work in an architecture program? Is the lighter MSI laptops 4 pound weight a big enough difference? Open to suggestions

Hey guys, maybe someone here can help me as im at a loss, you see ive only purchased 1 mxm card b4 from Eurocom computers, as they seem to be the only one that sell it to the mainstream new, thing is, that a client of mine has an 870m on his MSI GT70 2PC laptop, and wishes to upgrade to a much faster GPU as the time passes now (mainly because Nier is running really bad) as i checked specs, he can perfectly install the 980m 100w card in the machine, the thing is, that it is painfully expensive at 817 usd, i was wondering, if i can order a Standard MXM length/size GTX 1060 for the machine (as the 1050ti seems to have the same performance) thing is that several 1060mxm ive seen all have diferent shapes opposed to the Standard MXM Length and width any suggestions?, now the main selling point of the laptop was that it could upgrade in the future, but paying the same as he bought the laptopr for (used) doesnt seem to be a good idea

I currently have the choice of either getting an asus rog laptop with a 1060 and 16gb of ram and a 256gb ssd for a price tag of $1300 but several reviews online mention overheating problems with temps up to 90c on cpu and gpu (way out of my comfort zone). On the other hand i can get a partly dated (less than a year old) acer predator laptop with sick specs that beat the asus in every regard (512 gb nvme drive and 32 gb ram) except for gpu (980m instead of 1060) and doesn't overheat. What do u guys think is the better tradeof, better performance with very bad thermals or slightly lower performance for better thermals? I plan on using this laptop for 3d modeling in blender, coding 3d games in unity and gaming. Is the ram more useful than the gpu in these regards? Whatever tour answer may be, does that justify getting the acer one or the asus one and having to choose one aspect over the other? Thank you for your time and attention and wish you all a merry Christmas! (Also if you guys have found an alternative that combines both good temps and sick specs don't hesitate to inform me)

Let's keep this short; Due to my horrific eyesight, I need an IPS monitor. I'm looking for a gaming laptop with a relatively high grade GPU with an IPS monitor. Minimum spec: CPU: Doesn't matter as long as it's past intels 4th gen (anything past that is basically useless, i'm not pushing boundaries here). RAM: 8GB + GPU: Anything past Nvidia's 900M series will do me perfectly PRICE: < £1000 DRIVE SPACE: > 500GB My demands may be high - if so let me know so I can explore a market that's more likened to my needs. Thanks!

Hello guys i have a lenovo y700 with this spec 4gb gddr5 960m 16 gb ddr4 ram 6th gen i7 and it have been standing pretty good but it feels a little potato when it comes to gameing in 2018 so as a CE student new gaming machines are so expensive that I can’t afford a new 1070 laptop here is my question is it possible to upgrade the 960m gpu to 970 or 980 if yes how and if no i keep playing cs:go because it’s the only thing that runs smoothly

My Asus gl502 has a motherboard problem that requires a full replacement. My model has the gtx 970m and 6700hq on the motherboard, but the exact replacement would cost around 500 dollars, but for 600 I could get a motherboard with a 980m and the same processor. Would I need an upgraded power supply to run the GPU or would it be fine with the power adapter that comes with the 970m model (100-240V at 2.34A)

Greetings, I've Clevo P751DM-G and I called to my builder and they gave me info that my 980M cannot be upgraded for any 10XX card due to it's oversize. 10XX mobility are bigger than MXM standard and I've no room in my laptop for it. This body is huge so I'm 95% sure that you can't upgrade 980M at all then. It's pain in the ass, I bought this laptop for one reasone - that's upgradebility, that I'll be able to change parts in progress.

as I mentioned in my "hi" comment in the off topic section I posted my laptop spec, which is this : http://valid.x86.fr/d521cj I noticed my 980m has 8gb of vram. Having watched linus's videos on vram I have to ask why does the 980m have 8gb of vram. It just doesn't seem to make sense to me. My desktop 980 only has 4gb and that is more powerful and is driving 4K games so what could possibly be a logical explanation for this? Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining my laptop has 8gb of vram instead of 4. It just got me thinking.

Hey, all. So I'm currently in the process of deciding between two differently spec'd MSI GT80s. These two only differ in their price and the GPU utilized. The lower priced one goes for around $1600, and contains one 980m, with another available MXM port for future addition of another 980m in SLI, which itself goes for $800. The higher priced model goes for $1900, and runs two 970ms in SLI stock. So should I spring for the one with a single 980m and possibly upgrade in the future, or should I go for the 970m SLI model? Both of these are the older haswell versions running a i7-4720HQ soldered to the MB, and without thunderbolt, that removes any possibility of using a eGPU solution down the line. So that leaves me with two options: A) GTX980m - $1600 (+future 980m in SLI for total of $2400) B) GTX970m - $1900 Thanks for reading!

So Im a bit confused. I am looking at two different laptops and one as a gtx880m and the other has a gtx980m. In this thread (below) I was told that the 880m is better. But everywhere I look, I see that the 980m is better. Can you please clarify for me which is better? Thank you!

Greetings fellas and dames, I would like to ask you if you're interested in review of XMG 506. I want to start blog with friend and this could be my first review. I wanted to make it in Czech however I don't think I would hit large clever audience who can appreciate all details. It has this specs: CPU: i7-6700k GPU: 980M 8GB RAM: 16GB DDR4 2400MHz (Soon upgrade to 32GB) SSD: 1TB 840 EVO (soon I'll buy SM951 512GB NVMe) If you're please give me feedback what do you want to test - game, benchmark. I would very appreciate your help. I'll definetly make detailed temp test, thermal images and noise measurement. Teaser - in Heaven 4 after hour of loop temp never get over 65°C on GPU and body had max temp 32°C. Thank you for reading this and please respond if you're or not interest in, sincerely little_shiet

So, I've been looking around the internet for about two weeks, but I can't seem to find an actual laptop that would seem good enough to invest more than a thousand dollars on (Budget: 1500-1600). I'm not very picky in terms of the screen size (Even though a 17'' screen seems nice) nor the hardware that it's packed within the machine (The weight or size does not matter), the only thing I've been REALLY looking after, is having a GTX 970m (Also a SSD). The two laptops that I have found and fit this "requirements" have mixed reviews due to their poor longevity and optimization: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152817&ignorebbr=1 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232202 And in other sites, people have reccomended to me a custom built Sager or a Xotic variation for the MSI GT72. What do you think about Sager? Is it worth it? Also, Xotic is able to equip a GT72 with a 980m and a 4th generation intel core I7, will this create a bottleneck? Is Xotic any good? http://www.sagernotebook.com/customize.php?productid=821 http://www.xoticpc.com/force-msi-1781-221045-980m-msi-gt72-barebones-p-8111.html?wconfigure=yes Maybe you have better suggestions?

I have a G751 with the 980m inside.I was wondering if I can run the X34 ultrawide through the display port and if it would work properly. There are literally no benchmarks or even a single article on the matter and I don't wanna drop a big chunk of money on something that I'm not even sure will run.I know that most games won't be able to run at high settings and I'm OK with that.I need the monitor for Moba gaming+ streaming (playing in a window and multitasking) and movie watching because I don't like a multi-monitor setup since that will complicate my cable management situation even further and it will cost the same as far as pricing.I am also planning on buying a PC but right now I can't spent 5k all at once so I want to start with the monitor.Any thoughts?

Planning to buy a new gaming laptop. Which one to consider: gtx 970m with gsync or gtx 980m without gsync? Both the models cost pretty much same in my country. Or would it be wise to wait for pascal or volta?

Hey folks. I am looking at getting a new gaming laptop. I am looking at one of the Origin EON17-SLX. I know they aren't exactly super portable, but I love being able to game nearly anywhere in my house and having my whole rig fit into my backpack that goes with me to work every day. That being said, I am torn between getting one with two 980m's or one single desktop 980. The price difference is about $200 between the two. Which would you guys rather go with? Thanks a ton guys.
