Hey, First post on here. Just got in some used parts for a budget pc I wanted to build. specs: i5 9600k, msi gtx1070, 1tb m.2ssd (wd black), 550w psu, 16 gig G-skill, z390-H motherboard. All used parts, m.2 is new. After setting up the system I went to power it on and... no post. I have troubleshooted for some time now with no luck, and concluded that I needed a bios update. Asked the previous owner of the motherboard and he had used the same ram, and an i9 from the same gen. Would this mean that bios update would do nothing? VGA light comes on after a couple of minutes, so think there could be a GPU related problem instead? Attaching a photo of the CPU as its the only thing I feel looks off (middle top right). Have tried without gpu as well without any luck. Mono was shipped in normal bubble wrap and no anti static could this be an issue even if I get lights to everything? The screen also detects me plugging it in and out but no HDMI detected. have tried different screens and cables there swell. Anything helps, as I have built a fair few systems but never encountered a no boot sitch...

I've been toying with the idea of trying to get 5Ghz on my 9600k preeeeety much since I got it. I'm at a stable 4.7Ghz right now and I don't have any complaints really. How much would the performance increase yield? Should I just wait till I can afford to upgrade? I'd appreciate your guys' thoughts. Thank you!

Budget (including currency): ~500 (almost all used parts) Country: Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming (DOOM Eternal, Rocket League, Minecraft RTX, maybe heavier in the future) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Existing parts: Case: NZXT H440 HDD: 2TB tadashi or smth Bought: Important stuff first: COOLER: Hyper 212 RGB (needs a 12V header) FAN: Corsair 140mm RGB fan (needs 5V, got a hub that converts the CorsaiRGB to normal ARGB) PSU: Corsair CX550 SSD: Crucial BX500 Monitor: Samsung 144Hz 1440p VA, can be achieved through the HDMI and DP inputs, i think it's LC27JG52QQUXEN Planned: CPU: i5-9600KF MBD: ROG STRIX Z390e gaming (2xRGB12V 1xARGB5V) (sold with CPU as combo on Dutch eq. of eBay, bidding starts at €160, =$181) Corsair Vengeance RGB 2x16GB 3200 M.2: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB 3200 MB/s (new, on sale for €81, =$91) Now, GPU.. RTX 2060, on the second hand market it's about it's original MSRP and still a respectable GPU for gaming, I think, and heard. If by some miracle prices get normal I'll go RTX 3060 (non-Ti) i want an RTX card mainly for Minecraft with ray tracing cause.. well this is the LTT forum do I have to defend myself for spending hundreds for a niche gaming experience? I know it'll give me 30-40 fps, but 60 with Upscaling (DLSS) turned on right? https://youtu.be/eLmiwn71_6o I was feverishly searching for a Ryzen 3600 and an accompanying motherboard, but then the ad for a 9600KF with a solid motherboard included went up, I looked it up, and that CPU is.. better then the 3600? But then why is AMD known as the value king, I thought to myself, which is why I'm putting it up on here, in case I missed something. I'm aware it has PCIe 4.0, but I feel like that's kind of a gimmick given the rest of my planned components? And even if I end up buying an RTX 3060 in the future, it shouldn't hold me back that much: Maybe it'll give me faster boot times when paired with a PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD, but like.. I can wait 5 seconds more for my PC to boot. Like I said, I might be missing something, which is why I'm posting. Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello, I was talking to a mate today and he was helping friend out with parts list, i originally had told this friend to get the 5600x because its a good gaming CPU and that's all they'd be doing anyways, but my mate told her to get the i5 9600k instead because it is cheaper and it had inbuilt graphics so when surfing the web or watching videos it wouldn't waste power and use the graphics card and instead would use the inbuilt graphics. so I went along with it and just said yeah ok but I'm not sure if the 9600k is a better option also considering its an older CPU, pretty sure it came out late 2018 whilst the 5600x came out late 2020. I'm not sure, id like to think I am right but id like to get some feedback and see what you guys think. which one is actually better and why? and also I made the argument that the friend would also have to get an older mobo and the older mobo may lack some new features, but I'm not sure, would it?

According to Intel, the 9600K full spec is https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/134896/intel-core-i5-9600k-processor-9m-cache-up-to-4-60-ghz.html Isn't that it can go as high up as 4.6Ghz? My mobo is Asus ROG Strix Z390 F and RAM module is Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000Mhz (XMP 2.0). I have already enabled XMP.

SOLVED: I have an i5-9600K and a Gigabyte Designare Z390 (i know the motherboard is overkill, but was one of the only ones that had Hakintosh and thunderbolt support) I have seen in a lot of forums that this model of CPU can reach 5.1 all cores in some cases, but mine can't, well i can't all cores. I did some testings with the Intel extreme utility and prime95 and I came to the conclusion that at 1.360v which i know its a bit high, but I'm fine with that, it can do core 1 and 3 @5.14 GHz, core 2 and 6 @5.04 GHz , core 5 @4.94 GHz and core 3 @4.84 GHz (the core reference speed is set to 100.9 GHz). And when I apply this configuration to the motherboard BIOS I saves but when I open HWinfo it always tells me that all cores are ruining at the lowest core speed (in this case 4.84 GHz) and that the core voltage is not always at 1.360v but if fluctuates with spikes that can reach up to 1.460v (this when i tested all cores @5.14GHz). Does someone know why and how to solve this? Because when i check in the BIOS the changes I made are still there. (no AVX offset is applied)

Hello! Recently inherited a system with a i5 8400 and a Gigabyte 2060 OC. Playing games like Overwatch and NBA 2k it roughly split the load 50-60% CPU 40-50% GPU. However in games such as Warzone I was getting 95-100% CPU loads. I thought the normal assumption and assumed I was getting CPU bottlenecked. That's all fine except I upgraded to a 9600k earlier and I'm getting the same results slightly less CPU load though, more like the 80-85% range. I'm just confused because I've always been under the impression with gaming that GPU load should always be 99-100%. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi, thanks to LTT I got encouraged to build my first PC. Now I'm currently discouraged because of: problem here with PC not posting any display output + there's red led lights (on MB) showing on and off for CPU, DRAM, VGA. My troubleshooting so far: A) Fans spins => spins B) Disconnected/demounted all components and mounted/connected back again => no problems detected C) Checking CPU pins / Wrong thermal paste application => no problems detected D) Switching RAM between DIMM slots (with different counts (1-2 sticks), with different orders) => no difference detected E) Disconnecting all components besides CPU + RAM => no difference detected F) CMOS reset by removing battery for 10+ min => no difference detected I hope it is because the Gigabyte B360 Gaming 3 Wifi has old BIOS which is not compatible with i5 9600k. Since I don't have any older CPU by hand, I'll probably buy some Z390 MB like MSI Tomahawk. Please any thoughts, what else might it be? Or do you think I'm probably right on this one? Any more troubleshooting to do? Recomendation on cheap MB which would have stock bios with 9th GEN i5 support? (no overclocking needed since I'll be using 1660 Ti anyway) Build setup: PSU: EVGA 750 B3 MB: Gigabyte B360 Gaming 3 Wifi CPU: i5 9600k RAM: Hyper-x Fury 2666 MHz, dual channel 2x8 GB GPU: 1660 Ti SSD: V-NAND SSD 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2

Hey I just want to know whether a GTX 1660Ti will work with an i5 9600k for streaming? I want to just stream at 1080p 60fps

Debating on what parts to buy since AMD launch
JoostVisser posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
For the past year or two I've been saving up for a new computer. I've been updating my parts list all the time and until the Ryzen 3000 and Navi reviews I've had my eye on the i5 9600k and the RTX 2060 Super. My budget is around €1500 with a hard limit of €1600, meaning I won't go even €0,01 over €1600. I know I can get better performing parts for that money but I'd like to spend a little more money on quality parts rather than going for pure performance. Now that AMD has launched their new products I'm not really sure what to buy anymore. Note: All the prices mentioned below include tax, my budget does too. The webshop I want to buy my parts on is https://azerty.nl, the only decent IT hardware store I know of in The Netherlands, which is where I live. CPU First: The 3600X currently selling on Azerty for €269,00 and the 9600k for €235,05. Here are this things I'm considering when debating what CPU to buy: - Both will probably perform fine, but which one will age better? - The 9600k is well known for being able to overclock to 5GHz, is it worth it? - If I go for the 3600X, do I go for X570 or X470? - I'm currently not really considering streaming, but if I want to do that in the future, the 3600X will probably be better for that. - How good is the 3600X with overclocking? - Should I even consider overclocking? - According to the Tech Deals 3600X review, the 3600X performs basically the same as an 8700k, but is it still faster compared to a 5GHz overclocked 9600k? GPU next: The 5700XT is going for €498,84 (reference card) and the 2060 super is not yet being sold but the suggested retail price where I live is €424, Azerty will probably be a little above that. Here's what I'm considering: - Same as CPU, which one will age better? - I'm currently gaming on a 1080p monitor, but I'm considering a 1440p monitor in the future. - Do I want RTX capabilities? - I want an AIB card, so for the 5700XT I would have to wait a little longer for those. - Some 2060's have an USB-C port, which makes VR (which I want to buy in the future) a lot easier according to some people. - According to most reviews, the 5700X performs in between the 2060 Super and the 2070 Super. I will be adding bullet points in the future as I think of more things to consider, but what do you think is the best option for me? Do you think there are other things I need to consider? Any advise is much appreciated. Thanks! -
Can anyone help me find a mobo(mITX) that would be compatible with NZXT's H1 case and cooler? It's being paired with a 2060 Super and either a R5-3600X or i5-9600K so a b450 or z390 chipset would be optimal. (also 2x8gb Kingston Hyper-X DDR4-3200) Cheers!

Hi guys. A few months ago I started the construction of a new PC. I bought some components, but I do not know what power PSU is enough for my build. I like do OC and I plan to do OC only to my CPU ~@5.0GHz. I have: * i5 9600K * MSI MPG Z390I * EVGA GTX 1070 SC * 16GB Vengance LPX @2400 * 2 SSD (2.5" and M.2 PCIe) * Alphacool Eisbaer * 4 Corsair SP120 HP I have money for a 750 Gold or 650 Platinum. The results from OuterVision PSU Calculator. Thanks! PS. I'm not from USA

Hello everybody, First of all, english is not my first language so, I´m sorry for the mistakes. I just got a Zotec 2080 AMP Edition on a Christmas raffle (I can´t it believe too). The problem is that my pc is not new and I think the other parts are bottlenecking my GPU. I can´t get consistent frame rates in games like AC Odyssey and BF5 and other games like Overwatch, Dota 2 and CS-GO I get worst framerate than my GTX 970. The system I have is the following: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 ( now is the RTX 2080) i5 4960k MSI Z97 Gaming 5 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Samsung EVO 970 M.2 SSD WB Blue 1TB HHD My idea is to upgrade to a i5-9600k, 16GB DDR4 2400MHz, Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X and I´m not sure if I need a better PSU. Will this config be enough? Thanks guys!

Hello everyone, as the title states the lowest stable voltage I can get on my 9600k ( just bought today!) is 1.4 volts. While stress testing the temp goes to 79 Degrees Celsius maximum is that a safe temperature? While gaming it never goes above 63 degrees at 100%. I noticed online that some people are getting 5 ghz at 3.7 volts, are they just trolling or did I seriously get unlucky with the silicone lottery !?

Hi, I recently build my first computer and decided to overclock it. Here are the more important parts: i5-9600k MSI MAG Z390 Tomahawk MSI Radeon RX570 When I boosted my cpu frequency up to 5GHz with 1.43V, it actually got a worse score in cinebench (800cb down from 1100cb). I have read that it should be stable with those values, so does anyone know what's wrong?

I have an i5 9600k on an msi z390 pro-A MB. I have 32gb 2400 ram and a Zotac 1070 ti mini. I have been looking into upgrading the GPU to a 2060 super-2070 but my 1070ti reaches 1980-2010 mhz on its own, no overclocking on my part and my CPU I have set at 4.6 all core with a Cooler master hyper 212 tower cooler from 6 years ago. I can get 4.7 but when i go 4.8 system doesn't boot. My question is what should I upgrade Upgrade the cooling to an AIO on cpu, Upgrade 1070ti to a 2060super or 2070 Upgrade 9600k to a 9700k or 9900k I have 4 drives with 2 1tb ssd, 1 m.2 and 1 2.5in I am not to worried on cost but Its not unlimited. I built an AMD build for wife and she has a 2700x, 5700xt, on a B450. If I can get a CPU and MB for AMD I woulden't mind changing. Thanks for all the help and advise.

Hello, I have recently gotten back into the hobby of flight sims. That's fine and all, but they're taxing on your PC no matter what. Currently, I have a 9600k, paired with a z390 Gigabyte Aurorus Pro Wifi MoBo, 32 GB RAM, and a GTX 1080 ti. First world problem, I know, but I cannot get my 9600k past 4.7. No matter the voltage, all the way up to delivered 1.4v, it doesn't stay stable past 4.7. I've disabled multi core enhancement because I read that can sometimes cause issues. Temps are fine, below 65 even with 1.4v delivered. Some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

first off my specs: i5 9600K MSI z390 gaming edge AC cooler: Scythe mugen 5 rev b Overclocked to 4.9Ghz at 1.285V Ambient: 27C cpu idles at 42C which seems rather high prime95 AVX DISABLED small ffts caps out at 90C after 3 min VCORE during small fft's: 1.288V Bad mobo, bad CPU or bad cooler? Mount and paste application is proper. Checked multiple times.

So i have had my eye on a Newegg bundle deal during black friday which has an Intel i5 9600k, MSI Z390 Gaming Edge AC, and call of duty BO4 for $369.98. seems like a killer deal because without black friday pricing it would be $500.00 for those three components. Any thoughts would be appreciated, or if you have seen a better deal for similar bundles. here is the link to that page in the ad https://blackfriday.com/ads/black-friday/newegg/20

Hello everyone, Regretfully during a build last week, a young sibling managed to knock my brand new 9600k off a low stool. The CPU departed from the plastic casing in free-fall and slid a few inches across a tiled floor. Thankfully, no serious damage was dealt to the CPU - I have it up and running in my system currently. It has ran P95 and intel burn test with maximum temps of 66 degrees while under full load. I did notice one VERY small scratch on what I believe is the motherboard PCB. I have been playing blackout, world of Warcraft and Arma today with no visible issues. Regretfully, I do not have the knowledge or expertise to state if the longevity of the CPU has been shortened. I tend to hold onto my CPUs for a while, with my last 2 i5s being a 2500k/4690k respectively - I just hope the CPU us not going to throw in the towel a year down the line. I will include some pictures of the CPU and the slightly damaged corner. I have included a few images, with one magnified area of damage. https://imgur.com/jOC5hCl
