I am thinking about buying a 960 EVO and I was looking at reviews from other people. There a quite a few cases of people's 960 EVO (and one review unit) fails within days of purchase, the shortest is only after 400MB of write. Is it really that unreliable?

I have a MSI Z170 M5 motherboard with a Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SSD being used as the main drive. I am trying to replace it with a Samsung 960 EVO m.2 SSD. What is the easiest, fastest way to transfer everything to the m.2 so that I can use it as my main drive and give the 850 EVO to a friend. Specifically, can I just install the m.2 and work within my system to clone the drive and then take out the 2.5" drive without any problems? I running windows 10 home. Any tips or resources would help. Thanks.

I recently got a 500GB 960 Evo from Microcenter. While I was there, an employee explained how to get everything from my old hard drive to the Evo. He said all I needed to do was format the drive in Windows, use Samsung's Data Migration software to get everything onto the Evo, switch the boot priority to the Evo in the BIOS, and I should be able to chuck the old drive entirely if I wanted to (it's an old, 150GB, 5400 rpm mechanical drive). I did all these things, but when I switched the boot priority to the Evo, my screen would flash black, the Win 10 blue, and my login screen. Switching the boot priority back to the mechanical drive, everything works fine. A friend of mine said that when copying my files to the Evo, the files for Windows 10 might have corrupted, and I need to just get a new copy. I trust her, but I wanted the opinion of "experts" on the internet. What do you guys think?

Title pretty much says it all, super confused. I just purchased a 960 Evo 500GB and installed it into the M.2 slot on my Rampage V Extreme. I performed the Data Migration from my 1TB 850 Pro successfully and Windows can see the 2 drives, but when in the BIOS, it only sees the 850 Pro and the 960 Evo is no where to be seen. Is anyone familiar with why this is happening or able to help me solve it?

I built my system about a week ago, and something just isn't right.. Hoping someone can help me fix this. System Specs: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/v3XJ2R (Running Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit, everything stock - No OC) My downloads folder (about 8gb worth of files/folders) takes 20-30 seconds to load. When I click on it, it just says "Working on it...". The same thing happens when i go into my devices and printers folder. I've experienced these issues on my 3 year old ultrabook with a much slower SSD and was not expecting to see the same problems with such a premium ssd. The read/write speeds seem okay when I benchmark, but the 4k and random reads/writes seem like they are disastrously slow. I know I installed windows in UEFI, and for the most part everything else is running smooth (although, I am getting 90C+ temps only when benchmarking with Prime95, but that's probably irrelevant). Imgur Link to benchmarks: Compare it to benchmarks from around the web such as: http://www.thessdreview.com/featured/samsung-960-evo-m-2-nvme-ssd-review-250gb1tb/3/ What can I do to fix this?

Hi, I currently run my X99 Sabertooth in Sata configuration: RAID mode with a 128GB Sata3 SSD for Windows and two 500GB Sata3 SSD in RAID0 for games. Now that NVMe has been out for some time, I wanted to upgrade my windows drive to a 960 EVO 500GB. At first, I wanted to sell my 3 SSD and buy a 1TB model for Windows + games, but I think that my RAID0 is more than fast enough for games, so I can keep using it and save some money by buying the 500GB model. The 128 GB SSD starts to fill up too quickly. Can I keep the RAID0 Sata while using a NVMe drive as boot ?

Arctic Frost I usually build a PC every few years, one more ridiculous that the last, and wanted to share my adventure though the process with the community. My last build was red with green, thinking it looked like a monster with green blood. It was over cramped with bad wire routing. It was so bad I couldn't get the panels on and it became what I wanted, a monster and unruly. Wanting to learn from my mistakes clean and ordered while being efficient are my lines I wont cross. My inspiration was ice, cool sometimes white and sometimes blue but always cold. The parts are added below and I will update them as I get them. As of right now I have the ones listed. Hi, I am stuggling to see if the Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H motherboard and Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD are compatible. The motherboard specs lists: M.2 Socket 3 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 SATA & PCIe x4/x2/x1 SSD support). The SSD interface is PCIe 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.2. So far it looks like they are compatible, but the motherboard manual has the following table under its M.2 details which confuses me: This post https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/760867-which-videocard-to-buy/#comment-9615506 matches the motherboard and SSD, but the build is not complete. Thanks

Thinking of getting an m.2 nvme drive. 960 evo offers better performance but degradation after a buffer to slow speeds (any info on which I would be grateful for) called intelligent turbo write. 950 pro has slower speeds but no performance buffere. Both similarly priced, which should I buy?

i7 7700k 32GB RAM 1TB Samsung 960 Evo m.2 I have a new workstation pc, built for high detailed CAD modeling. Most of my models are so large (in the GB large) I need to reference them in. My biggest bottlenecks in my last build were the RAM and the hard drive. so I both upgraded the RAM and bought an m.2 NVMe ssd. While this has greatly increased the performance of my computer, it still seems like the storage is struggling to read all of the references. I ran a benchmark using the Samsung magician and it says I am getting 2,959 MB/s read, but task manager has never exceeded 100 MB/s. I get that it won't be operating at full speed 24/7 especially if I'm not doing anything intensive, but when I am it still seems to run way below its potential. This could be totally normal, I don't know, but I just wanted to pass it through here to get a second opinion. Thanks for the help!

Greetings, Im working on upgrading my Ryzen system, and Id love to jump on the NVME bandwagon, but I have concerns as to how it will affect the usage of my other 7 sata drives (5 HDD, 2 SSD). I remember seeing somewhere that using an nvme drive on the Asus Crosshair Hero VI would limit me to 4 sata ports, however I cant seem to find that info again. Can some help me understand what the limits to nvme on this platform is? And if it does limit my sata drives, how can I work around this? A raid controller perhaps, though at that point PCIE lanes would likely become an issue. Thanks for your help!

Hello everyone! I have one question about some results that I got on a website called userbenchmark.com. According to the results everything but the SSD is performing as expected. I get a warning on the SSD (Samsung 960 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 500GB) section that says: Performing way below expectations (15th percentile). The SSD is connected to the PCIe M.2 header on a Asus MAXIMUS IX CODE. The CPU is an Intel i7 7700k and RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 C16 4x8GB. These are the full results in case are needed (http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/4955842). I checked and there are no programs or apps writing o reading anything at the moment of starting the benchmark process. What can it be? What can I do to correct this? Thank you very much for your help.

Hi everyone, I finished building my computer last month. I had an old ssd laying aroud so I decided to use it. Since last week, the ssd became very slow from time to time. The ssd will be about 2 years old in a month. The ssd is 120gb and 70gb is not in use Before having it spare it was in a pc that ran about 20h/day and 6/7days a week. This lead to my question, should I buy a 960 evo to replace it since it is on sale and I don't want to lose data? Will there be a performance improvement on boot time and program start? I have a m.2 port on my motherboard Links: 960 evo Old ssd Thank everyone for the feedback Sorry for bad english

So I have an Asus Maximus VII Ranger and I want to get a new M.2 Samsung 960 Evo. The problem is that my motherboard has an M.2 port but its limited at 10Gbit/s. That means 960 Evo's potential is wasted on my motherboard. I thought about getting an M.2 to PCI 3.0 x4 adapter (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Lycom-DT-120-PCIe-Adapter-Support/dp/B00MYCQP38) to get the maximum speeds of the M.2. But I need to know if the M.2 will be bootable. Please help, I have been searching for days and found nothing. Thanks in advance!!

Am I the only one that's more excited about fast storage than a lot of other things? Even if it makes no observable difference...

Hello, I own a prebuilt Asus g20CB 970 computer. The HDD that come with it is very slow, requiring upwards of 5 minutes to load all of my programs. I am thinking of shelling out a lot of money to buy a 960 pro 1TB M.2 SSD. I am very certaint that my motherboard contains a m.2 slot, though I am double checking. I just want to know if the size would work on it. I can never get some of the screws out and are already going to pay the geek squad 30$ to install it (Yes I know, I'm sorry.) It is a pretty small case so I don't know if it is going to actually fit in. Thanks for all responses.

Simple question is there any special procedure or bios changes to install the Samsung 960 evo pcie on the m.2 slot ?note* have two more sdd´s on the sata intel controller, No sdd´s installed on ASMEDIA

Hi guys. I recently built a computer(https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TP8PQV), and I got the 250 gb 960 evo as storage. When I entered the bios, the motherboard wasn't sensing the ssd. Can you guys help?

Hello everyone, The PC specification are as follows: MB : Z390 Gaming Sli (Bios F7 Version). CPU : I7-9700K Ram : Corsair 8GBX2 (Model : CMK16GX4M2A2666C16R) Storage : Samsung 960 EVO NVMe SSD PSU : Antec 850W High Current Pro Platinum. The problem that occurs is that when the 960 EVO is connected to the M2A port in the MB its recognized as PCIe 3.0 x 1 and not PCIe 3.0 x 4 and because of that the Storage device isn’t working at its designated speed. To quote from the Gigabyte website “Dual Ultra-Fast M.2 with PCIe Gen3 X4 (1 with Thermal Guard) & SATA interface” it means that the port should read the storage unit at PCIe 3.0 x 4 if no other devices are connected to the PCI lanes. The CPU supports the following PCI Express Configurations ‡ Up to 1x16, 2x8, 1x8+2x4, it means that the CPU does not cause the issue and fully supports the the drive to run at PCIe 3.0 x 4. When connecting the storage device to the M2P port it read the drive as PCIe 3.0 x 4 and works properly. The test was preformed when no other HDD or SSD devices are connected and no other PCI devices like GPU were connected it means that not occupation to the PCI lanes were present except the 960 EVO, so there is no reason for the drive not to run at PCIe 3.0 x 4. Another test we preformed is to connect a GPU to test if the MB reads the device properly as a PCIe 3.0 x 16 or even PCIe 3.0 x 8 but the MB reads the device as PCIe 1.0 x 16. We have taken a few pictures to show the information and the status when tests were performed, I will explain each photo and what is shown. Picture 1 – this show how the MB identifies the storage when connected to M2A and the current reading lanes ( you can see what the device is capable reading and after the @ how the MB reads it, I verified it with the Samsung magician and crystal disk info too). Picture 2 – The identification of the 960 EVO in the NVMe Configuration. Picture 3 – The sata configuration at the bios (reminding that no other devices are connected). Picture 4 – The system information of the MB and as you can see it’s a F7 bios version. Picture 5 – The power settings of the MB. Picture 6 – The chipset settings of the MB. Picture 7 – The bios settings of the MB. Picture 8 - The identification of the 960 EVO when connected to the M2P port in the MB. Picture 9 – We tried to connect a GPU to see the distribution of the PCI lanes of the MB and it doesn’t even distribute it properly and the MB even reads it has GEN1 and not GEN3. Picture 10 – The same test but the GPU was connected to the second PCI x 8 slot, and as you can see the GPU is at 1.0 x 8 and the 960 EVO is still at 3.0 x 1, here I suspect that MB has a problem with a lane distribution (may I remind you that using the CPU supports 1x8 + 2x4). Please help and thank you in advance

So I went to turn on my computer today and I just get a message that says press the F2 or delete key to enter the UEFI bios but pressing those keys does nothing. Nothing I press does anything. I've tried all buttons on my Asus Maximus Hero X wifi motherboard and still get the same error. After taking out my Samsung 960 Evo nvme boot drive I was able to get into the bios and find my other drives. But if I put the nvme drive back in I get the same error. Even tried a different nvme slot. Is there any hope of recovering any of the data on it without having to send it into a recovery center? Or is there something else you think I could try?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my PC very soon. MoBo and CPU. Now i want to keep my boot SSD (Samsung 960 Pro). What do i have to do? Can i just swap it or do i have to do anything else? I never upgraded a pc in this way (only built entire systems until now), so sorry this might seem like a stupid question. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi all, I am looking to add to my computer build and there really isnt much more to add because my current setup is stacked. 1080 ti I7 7700k 2x 1tb samsung 860 evod in raid 0 1x 2tb 2.5" seagate barracuda 5400 rpm for backing up raid 0 array on weekly basis 1x 250gb samsung 960evo m.2 for operating system I was thinking of getting another m.2 as my motherboard could support one more m.2. I was looking at the new 970 evo 250gb, but was wondering if there would be any issues if I decided to put that 970 evo in a raid 0 array with my current 960 evo. I dont know if they have to be the same exact m.2 or if they could be different. And if they can be different will I take a hit in performance rather than just buying another 960 evo to do a raid 0 array with my current 960 evo. Thanks!
