I have had my gpu undervolted on my xps 15 for more than a year I think. I made it so that it didn't go above 0.8v 1300mhz. Some time ago, just randomly, my gpu would just stop working. When I'm browsing the web, or using photoshop, (just randomly) the screen will flicker and the readings from afterburner would disappear. The problem occurs even when it's not undervolted (in stock settings). For a long time, I just dealt with it by restarting my laptop and going on with my day. Then I got tired of it. So I reset my laptop 2 nights ago. All was good. Until I decided to install afterburner to monitor my gpu clock and Temps. But after setting up just my OSD settings and loading up a game, the game crashed and gpu poof. Uninstalled it and all was good. So I installed gpu tweak 2 instead. So, any insights on what could have caused this behavior? TLDR: Afterburner (stock settings) makes gpu go poof and restarting makes it turn on again.

TLDR I honestly wanted to really like this laptop. Specs are great, build quality is great, huge fan of the replaceable battery, RAM, and SSD. Defiantly not a huge fan of all the stability issues it has. Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues with their XPS 9570 or similar devices here on the LTT forums? I noticed many people share the same complaints on reddit and Dell forums? I had my Dell XPS 9570 for about half a year now. I purchased it after hearing many YouTube reviewers and online sources raving about how good this laptop is. Having an i7-8750H, upgradable DDR4, upgradable M.2, dedicated GPU, incredible 4k display, all in a reasonable sized and well built chassis quite possibly makes the perfect laptop. But sadly I was not aware of the bad side of the 9570, mainly stability issues. I have been experiencing multiple daily random reboots (sometimes BSODs or just a black screen and reboot). Sometimes I would get up to five random reboots in a row. It would even randomly reboot when just sitting idle on the Windows desktop. It doesn't matter if it is on-battery or plugged-in. Event Viewer lists these sources when it happens: - volmgr - Distributed COM - Kernal-Boot Sleep is absolute trash on this laptop. When I closed the lid putting the laptop to sleep at night, it would turn back on at 3AM with the fans at 100% and almost boiling to the touch. Had the same scenario happen twice in my backpack. Took it out of the backpack, fans 100%, so hot it might literally catch fire. Obviously because no airflow in the backpack. Sleep somewhat worked best when I disabled "Modern Standby" in the Registry. But then it completely broke again when Microsoft got rid of the disable "Modern Standby" Registry entry in Windows 10 v. 2004. I just gave up on using sleep and started using hibernation. Hibernation works better than using sleep but there are still some hiccups when using that. I had three cases where the laptop would simply just not turn on. Plugged in or un-plugged just simply would not turn on. The battery was about 50% charged according to the battery level indicator lights on the right side of the laptop. I had to open the laptop, disconnect and reconnect the battery to force reset it. Then it turned on. The first time this happened I was in away at school with no access to a decent Torx screwdriver to pop the bottom case open. I was stuck without a laptop for two days. Now I just carry a Torx screwdriver in my backpack because I expect the problem to return in the future. The Dell XPS was suppose to be the flagship Windows laptop and it better be given its price point. Back in 2018, I would be furious if I paid ~$2000 for a laptop that doesn't sleep and randomly reboots. I am giving up on it and probably going to sell it. Thinking of buying a ThinkPad T470 or T480 as a replacement for now. I have done a lot of troubleshooting all not fixing the problem: - Reinstalling Windows using Dell OEM Recovery Media - Reinstalling Windows using Windows Media Creation Tool - Using Dell drivers from website - Letting Windows Updates install drivers on its own - Using NVIDIA drivers from NVIDIA's website - Using NVIDIA drivers from Dell's website - Disabling C-States in BIOS - Replacing RAM and SSD - Reset BIOS and updated to latest revision - Tried Ubuntu and Solus for a while (random shutdowns gone but still sleep issues) - unfortunately I cannot use Linux as I use the Adobe Suite along with some applications that are only on Windows All combinations still resulted in stability issues and sleep issues.

First post, but I have enjoyed reading previous posts of people guiding others when getting a new laptop. I hope you can guide me too. I'm considering getting a new laptop since my 3 year old Toshiba Satellite LB50-B-2E7 is disintegrating and now only have a maximum of 30 minutes battery life. I travel a lot which is why I'm looking for a laptop. My intention is to go all in and get a high end laptop that can last the next 3 years with the power to handle a little of everything from virtualization to a little video editing. It's meant for professional use, but I wouldn't mind it if it can handle a few games. After having this Toshiba, build quality have become a priority, since it feels like it's going to break when you pick it up with one hand and the keyboard have left permanent scratches on the screen. I can't stop looking at the XPS 15 9570 but I've heard that it overheats: i9-8950HK-processor 16 GB 2 x 8 GB DDR4-2666 MHz M.2 512 GB 2280 PCIe solid state-drev GTX 1050TI, 4 GB Does anyone think it's worth it to buy a laptop at that price? Are there any other alternatives? Any feedback is much appreciated

Hello, My dell XPS 15 9570 (i7-8750h + GX 1050 ti) idle temp seems to sit around 50C. I have undervolt my laptop to -0.125 mV using throttleStop but I see no improvement in my temp. Is it normal for the laptop to be around 50C - 55C during idle and low work task (ie web serving, typing document)? My dell laptop is refurbished from dell website and I am owning it for about a week now. Also my fan can fluctuate between 35DB to 40DB during idle and low work task. My room temp is around 70F to 75F.

I have owned my dell xps 9570 i7 8750h since August. I have been having issues every now and then randomly. When I put a stress on the cpu it down clocks to an unnecessary amount. The temps are fine when it down clocks. I cant even render a video without it dropping the clock down. But when it doesn't down clock (below the base) I can easily render a video at 3.5Ghz Any ideas? I have a Dell XPS 9570 with the i7 8750H. I have just recently started noticing I am power throttling (Thanks to Intel XTU) When I first receved the laptop on July 31 I didn't have any problems running ADIA 64 and Cinebench R15, but now I am unable to get full CPU utilization. When I run Cinebench R15, my CPU down clocks to less than 1.5 GHz and CPU usage drops to only 50% and the temps are less than 58c. But every once in a while I get my full system power and I run at 3.9GHz while under full stress loads.

Hey everyone, i sold my MacBook Pro 13" and want to buy a Dell XPS 15 9570. The only thing i am not sure about is which configuration i should get. I am considering those two models (both of them with the Full HD Screen): i5-8300H, 256GB SSD, 8GB DDR4 RAM and GTX 1050 (~1400€) or i7-8750H, 512GB SSD, 16GB DDR4 RAM and GTX 1050 Ti (~1800€) I'm using it for university, some work (office), web browsing and some light gaming (like Hearthstone or maybe Fortnite, CS:GO, Path oif Exile). I'll run a VM sometimes. I got a gaming rig at home, so i won't need the best performance on the go. The i7 model got 6 Cores, but i am not sure if the XPS can handle it in terms of cooling. The RAM and SSD are upgradeable aswell. I'm from Germany if it matters

I have been thinking about buying the new XPS 15 (9570) with the i7 six core but am pretty torn on if I should risk buying it or hold on for a little longer. I have not seen any videos or articles about long term usage of this device. Pretty much all review-site reviews are very positive yet it has 3 stars on amazon and many customers are talking about screen flickering, wifi instability, blue screening, buggy GPU drivers and more. Plus it has basically no VRM cooling and a pretty lackluster cooler for a device this powerful. This is a very expensive device and I would need to buy it from the UK or US because prices in Iceland are INSANE on this laptop (30-40% more expensive) thus getting a replacement model becomes a little more tricky if something goes wrong. Has anyone bought this device and how has the experience been?
