Hello, I have a question, does the dell xps 15 9560 (1080p 16GB Ran 512GB SSD) support a extra HDD? I'm looking for a ICT Laptop. Dell XPS sound great so far, I only need a little more space. Thanks for reading! Hey everyone, does anyone know what gen the USB type c on the dell XPS 15 is running and if its 2 or 4 PCIe lanes Thanks, Joe Edit. Thanks, everyone who answered my post. I don't know how I missed that info on Dell's website. Nonetheless, i ended up purchasing the laptop. I was between this or the new razer blade 4k model. but I got a killer deal on it that I could pass up, basically, I got this laptop for 1600 with the best buy price match.

I've asked this question but even till now I cannot get a definitive answer. My 9560 pauses charging periodically about every 5 seconds. This happens around 80%+ At around lower than that when plugging in the charger it would say "plugged in, not charging" but then immediately goes to charge. At 100% it just completely stops charging. This has never happened before which is worrying. I am currently on the most updated version of Windows and BIOS.

I'm looking to get a laptop and haven't found too many options besides the XPS 15. I'm probably being very picky for a laptop that will be a secondary pc since I have a desktop, but I've used too many cheap laptops that get sluggish real fast. This will mostly be for casual web browsing, watching videos, and some 3D CAD modeling if I take it to work. I'd like a 15" display, 8+ gb ram, 128+ gb ssd, i7 cpu, and thunderbolt. The XPS 15 9560 with 7700HQ has all of this and with the current 10% off deal it's $1,400. Thunderbolt is the feature that many laptops don't seem to have yet. XPS 15 9560 Is there anything closer to $1,000 with similiar specs? Thanks

Hi Everyone, I recently bought a Dell XPS 15 9560 with a beautiful 4K screen, intel 630 graphics and a GTX 1050 GPU. It's generally working well, though I noticed in MSI Afterburner yesterday that the GTX 1050 seems to be turning on an off at roughly 1 second intervals even when its not being used by any programs according to the NVidia Control Panel. With NVidia Inspector I was able to see that it's only cycling between 0% and 1% load repeatedly, but it just strikes me as odd that it would do so even when I'm only looking at the desktop, where the Intel HD 630 should be doing all the work and the GTX 1050 should be entirely disabled. Is this normal? Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can disable the GPU completely when it's not being used by a program that really needs it? I am not particularly concerned about degrading my hardware since it's only being used a very small amount, but it seems like it might adversely affect my battery life, which is sort of annoying. Any advice or ideas you have would be greatly appreciated .

Hi! DELL put the 1050 in their new XPS 15 instead of the 1050 TI. Benchmark at notebookcheck is already out showing that the notebook 1050 is slower than a 965m and only 20% better than the 960m. The 1050 ti is 50-60% faster than the 960m as early leaks have showed. If these benchmarks are correct then why the hell did they choose the non TI variant when they share the same TDP. I´ve been waiting on a slim businesses looking laptop with good battery life and graphical power to play most games at 1080p 60fps+ and thought the DELL XPS 15 9560 would be the one.... http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mainstream-Pascal-GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-and-GTX-1050-in-Review.189822.0.html

Hi! It´s been confirmed by dell that the Thunderbolt 3 port is the same as in the old model and won´t support speeds up to 40gbps because they still only use 2 PCIe lanes instead of 4. The XPS 13 2-1 will however have full thunderbolt speed. I´ve been waiting a long time for the new dell XPS 15. I thought that I finally would get a portable professional laptop with good battery life and the power to play games without looking like a toy, and the option to use a eGPU later on when the 1050 wouldn´t be enough. Do anyone recommend any other laptop that is similar but with full Thunderbolt 3 speeds?

Hi, Yesterday, my XPS 15 9560 suddenly stopped working. I'm running Windows 10 pro, didn't install any new software myself, and now it doesn't boot into anything other than safe mode. Sometimes it doesn't even boot to safe mode with network drivers enabled. I have no clue as to what caused this, I tried disabling the devices with the newest drivers, the ones that have no driver assigned to them, and even tried resetting Windows with a Media creation tool stick. I don't have any backups that I put on a stick previously unfortunately, but none of those options above work either. Nothing but booting to safe mode works. If anyone here has encountered this problem before, or knows how to help in any way, without me losing all my data, I'd appreciate it a ton. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have an XPS 15 9560 from a couple years ago. A couple weeks ago, my battery (97whr - 6GTPY - GPM03) started its death spiral and eventually I pulled out the inflated thing and brought it to a nice big recycling center upstate. Now in searching for a replacement, I have already tried contacting Dell's Spare Parts department who have confirmed everything I have read in other forums (r/Dell and r/XPS) which is that they don't have any of the battery in stock and have no clue when it will become available again. I then started looking online to try to find a reputable seller with some decent reviews to back up the legitimacy of their "genuine OEM" product. Turns out I might as well been hunting for unicorns as I can't find a single source that seems legit enough to get me to spend my money with confidence. I am a full-time student with limited resources and I don't want to add more problems into my life buying a sketchy battery and having to pay for another. I have already checked out sellers on Amazon, who all seem to be pretty hit or miss. I found a couple options on Newegg but none of the products have reviews and the sellers are a bit hit or miss. (For example). I also found this at Walmart, but again, no reviews and I cannot find any info on the seller. I am wondering if any of you have the 9560, needed to replace the battery, and managed to find a decent source (or any to avoid). Thanks for your help,

Fellow enthusiasts, About a half year ago I bought a Dell XPS 15 laptop. Which runs the games I like rather smooth. (CS: GO | LoL | OS RS) However, It feels different than using a desktop. ( I tried simply connecting a keyboard mouse and monitor but it didnt cut it for me) The main question I would like to ask is, do you guys have a more advanced way to transform my laptop in a fully functional desktop, or do you recommend building a seperate desktop. If a build is recommended by you this is some information about it. I was thinking something like a 1070 -i5 8600k - 8gb ram budget - for the build + mouse would be +-1000€ and it would be build in 1-2 months (I know this can be tricky with the new graphic cards on the way) Location - based in NL Aim - mainly gaming (not too crazy, games like cs go) monitors - currently 1080p but preferably a 1440p 144hz in the near future if it is within budget. Peripherals - only a mouse is neccesary thinking of logitech g502 and currrently already have corsair k65 keyboard overall the look would be as simplistic and small as possible while maintaining suffucient airflow. (Black grey white as colours, no LED’s neccesary)

Hi there, I would really appreciate some help deciding on what to purchase with both gaming and CAD in mind. The choice is the current Dell XPS 15 9560 or wait for the soon-to-be-released Dell XPS 15 2-in-1. Also worth noting I would not be using the touch screen functionality. I know the CPU will see a considerable jump in performance (I've seen numbers thrown around saying 30%). I just can't figure out whether the Vega M would be a better GPU to have over the aging-but-dedicated GTX 1050? The specs are as follows: Current/Old XPS i7 7700HQ GTX 1050 4GB 16GB RAM 512GB SSD UHD 4K Screen New 2-in-1 XPS (still to be released) i7-8705G Radeon RX Vega M 16GB RAM 512GB SSD UHD 4K Screen Thanks very much for your help.

Hello People. After many hours of research I turn to you for answers on the installation of a secondary HDD on the Xps15 9560. I have the 56Wh battery version with space for a second HDD. I bought the cable and assembled it but unfortunately the laptop wont turn on after installation. Is there a reason why this happens? Is is a cable defect or the SSD not supported (Samsung 850 EVO 250GB)? Many thanks

A lot of you have undoubtedly heard of the famed XPS line up. Ever since the introduction of the 9550, it's been regarded as the closest to perfection a Windows PC has achieved. However, much to my dismay, this is only the case on paper. I've owned two XPS laptops - a 9550 and a 9560, both with the 4K display option. Spec-wise these are the best laptop-displays on the market when combining the resolution and colour accuracy - only recently met by the new Aero 15 which offers the same 100% Adobe RGB and 4K resolution, however I haven't had any experience with the latter product. I'm mentioning the panel as a focal point now because it's such a trump-card when discusing the laptop and I'll return to it further on. Seeing one of these laptops in a retail environment may be love at first site for a lot of consumers, including myself. After deciding to pick one up, I brought it home only to have the unit not power on whatsoever. I had to return the laptop the next day and replace it - however the replacement unit only had half of the front charging LED light up. I have however kept the unit as I seriously cannot be bothered at this point. Returning to the display, it looks great when you're looking at static content - save from the darker splotches which show up on the sides of the display (it's almost like the opposite of light-bleed, if I could describe it). Moving images are another story - the ghosting is so bad that it strains my eyes simply from dragging around a file explorer window and flipping through animations in the Windows UI... which is a whole other issue I will talk about next. The overall performance is mediocre - navigating Windows feels sluggish and is prone to low-framerates and stutters throughout the OS. Simply alt+windows key-ing into taskview the animation plays at what I'd say it about 12fps and combined with the ghosting, is just horrible. I know I may sound ridiculous for even discusing this, but considering the price point of the device, I think issues like this should be ironed out. I've tested other resolutons - namely 1080p for the exact 4:1 pixel ratio and the navigation is drastically smoother. So essentially, the HD 630 onboard graphics cannot handle 4K properly. I'd really like to hear your thoughts on all of this! Cheers!

Hey everyone, so I've gotten the 4K/GTX 1050 XPS 15 9560. I use it for graphic design and the occasional game as I'm waiting on parts for my desktop rig. I've been having awful issues whilst playing Fortnite and running some of the Adobe suite. Fortnite will dip down from 60fps at a combination of low/medium/high settings to the late twenties, with constant instability - I had to cap it at 30 to keep it 'smooth.' I opened up HW Monitor and the temps exceed 88 degrees on the CPU and 70 degrees on the GPU for short moments. After opening up task manager, however, the CPU was clocking itself at about 0.7-1GHz (even whilst playing). It's honestly painful, not only because of the gaming performance, but the whole Windows UI starts running at around 5fps for an extensive period of time. Any ideas on how I should proceed?

Over this summer i purchased a Dell XPS 15 9560 to replace my aging AMD FX build. I absolutely love it and I don't regret my decisions at all, but since I got it about 3 months ago, I've had two questions/issues in my mind. 1: Fan noise When i first got the laptop the fans were basically dead silent. With games they were an audible woosh, but that was it. But more recently, the fans have been making a noise that sounds almost like grinding. It's mostly audible when they first spin up at low speeds, and quickly gets very annoying. Also, if I'm Skyping someone and the fan kicks on, they constantly hear a rumbling as if there's a train coming. -Is this something I can fix myself? -Or should I give Dell a ring and see if I can make a warranty claim. 2:Thermals I've noticed that this laptop doesn't have -amazing- thermals. Granted it's a very thing laptop, but even with my i5 model it seems to thermal throttle a decent amount when gaming, even with just Team Fortress 2. This happens whether the laptop is on my lap, flat on my desk, or raised up for more breathing room on the bottom. -Is it worth using my own thermal compound and re-pasting the CPU and GPU? I'm more than comfortable doing it, especially if it means i can play TF2 without getting dips into the 15fps range. -Will Dell get pissy if I do re-paste and void my warranty? There's no warranty labels on the outside of the laptop, nor did I see any on the inside when I upgraded the RAM. Thanks in advance -Ken

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum but hoping someone will be able to help me out. I've had my XPS 15 (9560) for a few months now, the screen is absolutely gorgeous and the battery life among other things is great. HOWEVER, this system has been giving stuttering and lag issues since the day I bought it. Just a few examples are... lag typing into Google, loading webpages (not internet related lag) clicking, switching tabs, general UX (This was largely fixed by enabling hardware acceleration, but non-internet lag is still noticeable when switching to it from another window and when typing at times such as just having opened a new tab and trying to type) Playing a game on moderate to extremely low settings such as BeamNG, Rainbow Six | Siege, frames will drop significantly. BeamNG will game around 30-60FPS and then for no reason whatsoever, will drop to 10FPS for at least half an hour. Rainbow Six | Siege will fluctuate around 28~40FPS then drop to 5~15FPS if I get any sort of on-screen notification until it goes away, or randomly drop down to 15FPS for no reason. PUBG is 25FPS dropping to 15FPS at times even on the absolute lowest settings. Rainbow Six at the lowest settings should only require 1GB of GPU.... how on earth is this thing so damn slow when I have 4GB. Adobe Lightroom CC....my gosh.... every single action is laboured. Moving the mouse and waiting for changes to take effect, even just clicking the next photo will take an age for it to respond. Word Documents with anything longer than around 10 pages with even compressed images will lag while typing, moving the mouse and just generally feel like it's finding things exceptionally difficult to do. These are just a few examples, basically any operation short of just opening folders (e.g. using any program) can be exceptionally slow at times and laggy. I have tried all sorts of fixes for these programs individually and nothing seems to have helped very much. Even gaming at the lowest possible settings on both these games does nothing for performance improvements and I cannot describe how infuriating it is to be trying to complete a project in Word or Lightroom and have this ridiculous level of lag just because I inserted a compressed photo or clicked on the next photo in line I need to edit. The computer cost a significant amount of money and is pretty well spec'd out with all the latest updates of everything installed. i7-7700HQ Kaby Lake 16GB RAM NVidia GTX-1050 4GB GDDR5 I understand it may struggle to game these reasonably intensive games at high settings, but just day to day things??? Surely there is something not right with the settings. I've heard that Dell disables SpeedShift on the 9560 laptops, is this something that could be causing this stuttering and slow performance? Would enabling it with ThrottleStop be a safe option? It is absolutely infuriating, I had smoother performance on my old HP Pavilion DV5 than on this thing...editing in Lightroom is actually slower on this supposedly high performance laptop than it was on that 2008 model HP.... Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks guys.

I've got a bit of a dilemma when it comes to picking what laptop I'm picking up. I'm buying these second hand and I know I can realistically afford either if I decide on one. On one hand I'm looking at the Yoga 730 15", which I'd want to have the i7-8550U and the GTX 1050 mobile GPU in terms of specs. The issue is this laptop has a smaller battery than the XPS by about 40%, and the display is generally dimmer. What's nice is that it's a 2-in-1, so I get the conveniences of that, including stylus support for drawing and an edge in terms of portability and tight quarters usage. I've checked reviews and generally this thing doesn't thermal throttle too hard either, so I'm not concerned about that, especially since I plan on repasting. Also, there aren't a lot of peculiar issues reported for this laptop but it may be just because it's less popular. Edit: also, I plan on getting an external battery bank for some extended use times if it becomes an issue anyway, so battery isn't my utmost concern On the other hand I have the XPS 15, specifically the 9560. It's older but has similar specs. I'd want one with an i7-7700HQ, and as usual with this generation of XPS 15, the GTX 1050 Max-Q. This laptop has superior battery life but the form factor is strictly traditional. I also know that there are a lot of known issues with the XPS lineup from Dell, especially with thermals and VRMs and just weird driver issues. I'm not sure if it's nearly as bad as I've been lead to believe, but repasting isn't out of the question. The plus side is that it's a Dell product, specifically an XPS 15 so it has the nice finish that comes with that. Plus, dbrand skins. If anyone has any wisdom to bestow upon me, please do so. I need some extra eyes and brains to help me unstuck myself.
