Hi everyone, new member here. I have the asus gm501 gtx 1060 edition since 2.5 years. The intel core i7 8750h was a huge step up in terms of performances compared to the previous gen, but this CPU is also known to heat a lot. So I made as much optimiztions as I could to prevent my laptop to overheat: I repasted it (arctic mx-4), I undervolted it (-0.0125mv) and with the soft throttle stop I also put some more security by underclocking the cpu if the temp go higher than 80°c (if so, it goes from 3.9Ghz to 3.4Ghz max). With all of this, I managed to prevent high temperatures, and in "normal conditions" (say 22°c in the room) the laptop would never go higher than 90°c during the peaks and would be usually around 75 ~ 80°c during taxing gaming sessions or 3D renders. I was happy with this. But since a few weeks my temps are going too high, reaching crazy temps like 97°c, and making my CPU throttle a bit. I'm also worried by the temp sensor indicating that one of the cores is going way higher than the others. (I noticed since the beginning that the second core [in screenshot core#1] was a bit hotter than the others, but now it can have like 10 degrees of difference and that's too much). (see images attached to this post, recorded after a 2 hours gaming session) My guess are: -the thermal paste dried a bit (last time I changed it was only 1 year ago that being said), and/or a little air bubble formed, explaining that one core overheating; -The latest bios update messed up somehow, it seems like it overheat since this update but I'm not sure if I can rollback to the previous bios version. (and I'd really like to rollback, but I rode on some places that it wasn't 100% safe) Things I did: -reset the bios to the default settings -giving the core a bit more of voltage (reducing the amount of undervolting) -playing games only on down-clocked profile, waiting for a solution because I don't want to damage my laptop it's my workstation Any thoughts?

Hey guys so i game on my laptop and while playing rainbow 6 it almost never goes below 100fps today I started playing and it is almost unplayable. It fluctuates from 12fps to 1300fps and I have no idea why. power settings are on high performance and the nvidia settings are on fast and it is still bad. Any Idea what to do? Hello, I recently got a new Lenovo Legion Y530 144Hz, with i7 8750h processor, GTX 1060 6GB video card, 512GB SSD and 8GB of RAM. I'm writing here after 5 days of: -changing settings (selecting the prefered video card that the system should use, program dedicated video card that should be used, max the fan power) -playing games on both the factory version of BIOS and the latest update from lenovo's site -undervolting -overclocking -changing thermal pastes -CHANGING THE ENTIRE LAPTOP AT MY RETAILER The main issue is that i have medium, not to say low performance in games, comapring myself with other laptops with the exactly configuration that i have at the moment. Games of reference are GS GO (90-105fps); League of Legends(90-140 fps); Civilization VI(100 fps). Any settings i'm trying to play on i get the EXACT same fps; the same on very low, the same on ultra. I can't understand why is that happening. Maybe i'm missing something very little from the equation. I also have to add that in benchmarks i get the same scores, temperatures and performances as other people with my configuration. Not a single complaint, but I know that this laptop comes in many models and no one has really done a solid 100% review of this laptop. I am not a content creator but I am more than willing to answer any questions at all or run tests and provide results for anything that anyone with questions about this laptop would like to request. Will update soon, and anyone who would like specific thermal tests please let me know below -[Wireless Connectivity - 5/5] I did a wifi speed test on Xfinity 150mb/s internet ( not ISP equipment, but using Ubiquiti equipment ) from two rooms away and got a perfect 168mb/s down and 12mb/s upload. Went all over my house and even outside the front door and found absolutely no disconnections/slowdowns. So far so good, again if you've got any specific scenario or more extensive testing you'd like please let me know and it will be done otherwise I may not look further into this but will inform if I come across anything on everyday usage at home and elsewhere. -[Keyboard - 5/5] I may just be sucking off HP here, but this keyboard is AMAZING. Best laptop keyboard I have EVER used. Spectre line has always been praised for its keyboard but this one is honestly top of the charts. It feels really good, and while it may take some getting used to because of the island num pad causing the trackpad to be a bit off-center, if that isn't a turn-off for you or if you are willing to get used to it ( i did within a few hours tops ) then you will be 100% satisfied with this keyboard. Amazing, and I 100% agree with the reviewer it is awesome. [Sound - 3/5] Honestly, i am not the keenest person when it comes to audio quality so with that being said... I love these speakers. Sound solid, there isn't much bass but at least they are pretty loud without any distortion (fill up my room, which is larger than most I'd think since I work from home and have my "office" in one corner while I have a TV, couch, bed, walk-in closet, bathroom and still enough space to workout comfortably with a bench press on the side of the room). -[Battery Life ?/5] Still needs to be tested, so far I charged it to 100% out of the box and have been using it for the past 6 hours straight, it is currently at 45% and I have completely set up windows, downloaded a few programs like chrome, discord, etc and I also ran crystal disk and played one 32min league of legends game. Brightness is at 60%. Again, any specific tests you'd like just let me know! Okay. So, hit me with those questions and requests! I will be actively checking this post (at least for the next few weeks) so feel free, I will be guaranteed to reply within a maximum of 24 hours ( honestly might reply within minutes if I'm sitting at my desktop or on the laptop ) I would also like to request Linus review this laptop at some point... ok the new 8th gen i7 have 2 more cores so obviously it gonna get better sore in cinebench and even single core but it tops at 3.2ghz on all cores at full load my 7700hq easily stays at 3.5 on all cores and at times will go to 3.6 on all cores (rarely) so my question is 1. currently in 2018 which games benefit from 6 cores, or any numbers/gamereview where the new i7 will get better fps than 7700hq (keeping gpu constant ofcourse) ? i have seen in games like nfs payback where cpu useage is mostly above 80% and the new tombraider benchmark shows the game is only 45% gpu bound (meaning probably its cpu bound (gtx1070) and the cpu useage was above 90% in most cases) 2. how much is 1070 gpu bound int the new tomb raider ? i am using a alienware 15 r3 1070

I have owned my dell xps 9570 i7 8750h since August. I have been having issues every now and then randomly. When I put a stress on the cpu it down clocks to an unnecessary amount. The temps are fine when it down clocks. I cant even render a video without it dropping the clock down. But when it doesn't down clock (below the base) I can easily render a video at 3.5Ghz Any ideas? I have a Dell G7 laptop . It comes with a GTX 1060 max-Q, i7-8750H along with 8 gigs of RAM and a 256GB SSD. For the past week or so, while gaming my FPS Drops from around 120-30 , stays at 30 FPS for around 15 secs and then goes back to 120 FPS. Once this starts happening , it drops every 3 minutes or so. I play Rainbow six Siege and Fortnite and the same problem occurs in both the games. I have tried uninstalling previous Windows updates but that didn't change anything. I undervolted my laptop to -90mv and there average temperature reduced by around 6° when I ran stress tests on AIDA64. I also increased the Turbo boost power max from 45W to 55W but the problem is yet to be solved. Every time the frames drop the cpu usage drops from 3.91 GHz to around 800 Mhz. CPU Usage during the drop CPU usage when working normally Current Intel XTU Profile Any help would be appriciated.

I need a gaming laptop under 1800 USD with at least: GTX 1070 (No MaxQ) Core i7 8750H 16GB RAM SSD + HDD A fairly good display, doesn't need to be on a MacBook level. Currently I am looking at the Alienware 15 with GTX 1070 and 120 Hz G-Sync, the price is 1800 USD. Weight isn't an issue for me. Also, the thermals should be good.

Hey everyone I got an AW 17 R4 a while ago but I'm considering upgrading. I've been looking at the new 15 R4 but Reddit is just full of horror stories about really bad thermals on this thing. People are reporting temps around 90-100 with the 8750h config. That's just insane If its that bad I'm definitely not upgrading. Utter BS Does anyone have one to verify? I can't find any legit review out there.

Hey everyone I need a laptop for gaming and programming. But I'm having a really tough time deciding between a system with a i7 7700hq and GTX 1070 vs. an i7 8750h and a GTX 1060. Across all the different systems I've looked at, the two options cost roughly the same. They are both around $1500, while a 8750h with a 1070 would be at least $2000, which is over my budget. So if you had to choose between the 7700hq with a 1070 and the 8750h with a 1060, which would you choose? I care mostly about gaming performance and future proofing. It comes down to this: will the 7700hq be a bottleneck with the 1070? What about with games 2 years from now? One other thing to consider: Is it worth getting something with a 8750h and a 1060 now and then using an external GPU later to upgrade? Or is this a bad idea?
