Got laptop that had an extra drive in it (the 850 Evo). It comes up as a Microsoft storage space in device manager and cant be initialized in disk manager or formatted it in DiskPart Disk part said it was cleaned successfully but still cant format or create a new volume. When I tried to create a volume it said that a disk specified is not dynamic. I also tried to create a primary partition and it said: DiskPart has encountered an error: A device which does not exist was specified. See the System Event Log for more information. I do that (bruh moment) It comes up with this: VDS fails to write boot code on a disk during clean operation. Error code: 800701B1@02070008 Is it doomed for the drive.

Hey, folks...first time posting (long time viewer of LTT and its sister sites on YouTube)... I just experienced a failure on my three-year-old drive. This drive just stopped working "out of the blue" and I need to recover the data on it. I sent it to $300 Data Recovery in California, and they indicated that if it were a PRO they have tools to recover; there's a YouTube clip of someone doing data recovery from the PRO model, but the EVO model is at the moment not recoverable. In the same breath they tell me that the problem is not with Samsung but with their provider of data recovery tools; they have been waiting for an upgrade to the firmware for some time and have offered to hold on to my drive(s, including the recovery drive I sent them). The failure was cited as follows (and is why I'm writing here...): "The problem with your drive appears to be a firmware issue. This is a known issue for which there is no current solution (given your model)." They further write "Would you like us to hold onto your drive until an update is released? Note: we've been waiting for years for this update. So far, I don't think a solution is even on the horizon. Still, we have about half a dozen 850 EVO drives like yours here now, waiting for the day it finally comes (someone has to figure out how to break the samsung encryption for this model). In response to the email I sent them incensed at Samsung over this, they replied: "It's not Samsung, it's the developers of our data recovery tools." Is there any reality in which Samsung is NOT the villain of this piece? I find NOWHERE that I'm on notice that spending the extra $$$ for the Pro version of this drive would make it recoverable where the EVO version is seen to recovery tools as so much soup. And where would the "developers of <their> data recovery tools" NOT have to rely on Samsung for technical specs for the update they need to make the drives recoverable? I'm poisonously angry at Samsung right now, and somewhat at MYSELF for not covering my flank. I had used this drive as a repository for video files I'm immediately editing and working on, then to go to slower storage after the video is realized. Many of the files that were here ONLY resided here. I know now that this was careless practice but still find the facts herein extremely frustrating. I'd love any thoughts the brains our here might have for me, with many thanks. If someone knows of a different provider with more likelihood of success than $300 Data Recovery (I've worked with them before and they've been reliable) please let me know. I can't go crazy with recovery cost but these files are important to maintain goodwill with a client. Thanks to all. Jay from the Bronx, NY

So last night there was a storm and the power went out for 2 hours max. My computer was on at the time, but not in use and not sleeping/hibernating. When I turned my computer on for the first time since then tonight, it wouldn't boot and gave the 0xc000000e error. I went into the BIOS and saw that it did not register my SSD but it did register my HDD and my CD drive. Perplexed, I switched the port to one of the working ports, and checked again. No bueno. Then I tried switching cables. No bueno. Then I tried power cycling. No bueno. Now I am trying to boot into Windows with a USB 3.0 flash drive, although I think that the next ice age will come and go before that happens, and I have no idea why it's taking so long. I have considered the possibility that it is bricked by the storm, but I find that unlikely since I am using a surge protector and my PSU has some kind of similar feature built in. In addition, besides my sanity, it is only my SSD that is having issues. Does anyone know any magic incantations that could fix this? I would gladly pay any price or make a deal with demons to sacrifice my first born child or only eat toenails for the rest of my life, or both. If I must perform a blood ritual, then it looks like the neighbor's great dane is going to run off while they are at work tomorrow. Seriously though, someone please help. I was looking at getting the 250gb 850 evo. However the seller of the drive says that it has a SAS interface, my motherboard is SATA. Will this work in my system? Thanks

Okay so i have two 850 evo ssds 500gb each, should i raid 0 these or will it not make too much of a difference. I have never used raid on an ssd btw. I have only ever used raid with my WD raptors years ago. Or should i sell them for a 1tb M.2 ssd?

Hello, I am thinking of getting a 850 evo 1TB SSD. I have done a lot of research, but I do not know if I should get the 2.5 or m.2 model. I have a m.2 slot with 4x PCIe at 36GB/s, so I am pretty sure it is compatible. The M.2 is a little more costly and people said that is because it doesn't need wires. My case does not have a window and is not cluttered with wires, so I do not care if I have to put it one or two more wires. Thank you to all who respond. *I am a avid gamer and graphic designer. *The reason I am getting a SSD is because my hard drive is starting to wear out, giving me a lot of BSOD recently and the IOPS is horrid, only being 100. Also some games, Payday 2 in particular, crash a lot from my hard drive being too slow. (Or at least that is what people said and whenever I am playing it my hard drive is always closed to maxed out.)

Hi all, hoping someone here may have an idea about this. I have an ASUS Z170-A with a 6600K and 32 gigs of ram. My SSD is a Samsung 850 Evo 250g. I noticed that sometimes things loaded slow so I ran Magician and my speed at purchase was 540 read, 528 write and now I am lucky to hit 90 read and 50 write. I tried Crystal Mark and it too gave me really bad speeds, I could get better from my 1TB WD Black. I have my older OCX Vertex 3 in my system and it too is running about the same numbers. I have even done a clean install of Windows 10 thinking maybe something glitched in the reg but still getting the same numbers. The only issue I have had was about a month or so ago I came home to find my Corsair H110i V2 pump had died and my system was at the boot screen blinking CPU over heat. The heat coming from the cpu was high, I could feel it coming from my case as I got close. I had it OC'd to 4.4 when this all happened and it would have been no more than 8 hrs like that since it was fine when I left for work. I did see the temp was pegged at 100C but then shut everything down. Could that heat have fried something? I have checked and I am in ACHI mode, both BIOS and Windows confirm that much. I am at a loss as to what the issue is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys! I'm about to buy a PC and I can't decide about which type of SSD should I get. The M.2 version of the 850 EVO SSD by Samsung is a bit slower (500Mbps instead of 520Mbps) and a bit more expensive than the SATA version however its connected to the Mobo directly and doesn't requeire cables that would block the airflow in my case (probably NZXT's S340). What do you guys think? Thanks in advance!

They are about the same price, the A400 is slightly more and has 20gb less storage. not sure whats the beter choice, this will be my new boot SSD for Linux thanks for any help!

Hi, So recently I built a new PC and everything was working fine. I am using an 850 evo 500gb SSD, but whenever I try to turn on rapid mode in Samsung Magician, it doesn't turn on after I restart my computer. Also, along that process it opens a window that says https://pastebin.com/WHbZpRQs . I am using the latest version of Samsung Magician and Windows. Thanks in advance DxDiag.txt

I bought this samsung 850 evo from a friend for $40. My pc doesn't have a m.2 slot on the motherboard. Can I get this adapter and make it work?

Im wondering if anyone can answer me a question about this particular drive? Were these drives in anyway particularly bad and prone to failing? I bought 2 of these drives and the second one has died on me today, seems to have lost around 300mb of the space of the drive and cannot in any way shape or form get an O/S to boot which was working perfectly on the drive before this morning. As i said this is the second drive and the first one died in the same mannor.

Hello, I have a question related a Gigabyte board: Gigabyte z97x SOC-Force, I want to buy an SSD and found at very good prices 2 Samsung ones: SSD Samsung 850 Evo SSD Samsung 960 Evo NVME <- I really want this one The problem is that my motherboard doesn't have an M.2 slot and I want to buy an adapter, it's about 9/10Euro here. I tried to find out if is possible to boot windows from an m.2 SSD in a adapter on this motherboard but no luck. I know the chipset, Z97 will support it, but I don't know in this case. I need some advice/information if something like this is possible. Thanks! P.S. Changing the motherboard is not an option, I don't want to upgrade yet!

I was searching Ebay for SSD's and i came across this! 575 Australian Dollars for a 250 GB SSD? I think that's a little too expensive...

My brother is about to buy Dell 7577 soon, the only thing he is concerned about is which SSD to use or just go with the HDD. As you guys may know, the laptop (if configured with a HDD) comes with a 5400rpm which is kinda slow. He wants to have an SSD in the 2.5inch bay. The OS will be installed on the M.2 256gig SSD. What I want to know is, is 850 evo 1tb SSD good for installing games and playing everyday? How long can I expect this to last? Is there any other alternative to this? Preferably under 300$ And after we buy it and install the SSD in the 2.5inch bay, do we have to mess with anything in the settings or BIOS for it to work or it will just show up in Computer without doing anything?

As the title says i have purchased a new SSD last November and have not installed it in the system yet cause at that time i was still awaiting for my other system parts to arrive. after getting my GPU and while waiting for my ram and motherboard to arrive i started playing skyrim and well today i finally got down to build my new pc now that i have all the parts. I started by registering all m products and that including my SSD's. I purchased 2 Samsung SSD's (850 EVO 250 and 500 GB) from amazon, so today when i registered them in the samsung site it said my product is out of warranty? WTF? I am at loss here and have no idea what to do. I did a rudimentary check previously when i first got my SSD's (plugged them in and checked their status and generally see if they are working) and they were working fine. What do i do now ? what should i expect ? what is my situation ? the product was Amazon fulfilled so i trusted it to be good. now it says its out of warranty ? Am freaking out as its happening to both of my SSD's

So I have two identical Samsung 850 EVOs both 500gb. If I were to RAID 0 them, would I get approx twice the speed and the full capacity of both drives (1tb)? Or would I just get twice the speed but only 500gb of storage? I also have an operating system and programs installed on one drive. Is it no longer possible to RAID 0 them?

so i know this sounds weird but I kinda have a problem choosing which one? Should I buy x1 500gb 850 evo or Should I buy x2 250gb 850 evo?

Hey guys, I'm planning on changing my laptop 5400rpm HDD to a SSD, and add a boot SSD in my desktop. That said, I have been looking for a good 850 EVO 250GB deal and while looking I stumbled upon a 750 Evo 250GB, but I didn't find many reviews of this SSD, all I can really tell is that there it seems to be a more "budget oriented version" of the 850 EVO. Given the price difference between both, Is there much of a difference for working with programming (in my laptop, while at the college) and with gaming (in my desktop) with one or the other?

Hi, guys. I´m planning to optimize at least, more tHan it is my 850 EVO (250GB versión) and I found this option on my Samsung Magician software, but I don`t know, I don`t feel safe with it. My SSD is currently running at 36 degree with velcro strip next to the power supply. This option seems to emulate the TLC into SLC for last longer. Should I actívate it or not?

Title pretty much sums it up but I'm just wondering if anybody know if it's possible for me to clone my current Samsung 250GB SSD over to my new 500GB Samsung SSD WITHOUT using a USB to SATA cable easily? If its super complicated I can just go pick one up later this week but just wondering if theres an easy way without it? My OS as well as my programs are all on the 250GB one and I'd just like to move everything over to the 500GB one and clear the 250GB one I'm using currently for backup storage. Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

So I'm building a new PC for myself. It's going to be my second build, which I'm very excited about. After some looking, comparing and checking I got this part list:Mobo: ASRock Z87 Extreme3CPU: Intel Core i7 4790KCooler: Noctua NH-L9x65RAM : Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600MHzGPU: Gigabyte GTX 960 2GB WindforceHDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GBPSU: NZXT HALE82 550WThis build will be used mainly for programming and some gaming. The most demanding game I play is World of Warcraft, but I really want to play it with 60fps+ on highest settings. I'm looking for some opinions on this and possibly suggestions for better parts in pretty much the same price range.

Hello everyone, I am planning on upgrading from a mechanical drive to a 500 GB 850 Evo, but my motherboard's SATA controller is SATA II. So the drive will be forced to run at SATA II speeds (half of SATA III). 1. Will this bottleneck my SSD? 2. If so, would it be a noticeable bottleneck 3. Even with the bottleneck would I see an improvement over the current HDD? (I'm pretty sure the answers yes on this one but I still want to make sure).
