I've got two ssds an 840 pro and an 850 pro. I thought before I bought my 850 pro that I already had one, but apparently its older than I thought. They have about the same read and write speed, so I configured them in a raid 0 anyhow. I can't seem to find any benchmarking software that will test their speed for free so I wanted to know if I'm nerfing my pc by using these in a Raid 0 or is it fine.

I remember reading a story a while back about an SSD performance test being done by The Tech Report. Apparently, the remaining two contenders, the Samsung 840 Pro and the Kingston HyperX 3K, are still kicking. I first heard about it on my HTC One M8's Blinkfeed from engadget.com which linked me to The Tech Report's article about the test here. http://techreport.com/review/27436/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-two-freaking-petabytes For those who don't know, a Petabyte is 1,000 Terabytes.

I'm upgrading alot of stuff at the moment and wanted to get an SSD along with it. I've never bought an SSD before so I'm not very well informed on the various technical aspects that distinguish them. I've read that the 840 Pro is the better of the two but the MX100 is better value. I would like to know if this is correct and that I haven't been misinformed. I am more concerned about performance than value and if you have any other recommendations that perform better than the 840 Pro please let me know. Edit: Just realised there is a newer edition of the 840 Pro, the 850 Pro.

Hello, My Samsung 840 Pro 128GB, has a firmware update in the Samsung Magician software but it fails to install it. it just says "Firmware update failed on the selected drive" My current firmware is DXM04B0Q Any ideas? Thank you :D

Hi guys can anyone help me get the advertise speed for my samsung 840 pro for the random write and read? I'm running a fresh install of windows 8.1 in a samsung 840 pro 256gb Things that I've done -Check if i plug the ssd in the correct intel sata 3 -Check if its in AHCI -installed rapid storage technology -disabled defrag (optimization) -Installed Magician and check maximum performance (disabled hibernation and system restore because I dont use it) -Updated Firmware -Overprovisioning Set to 10% -ran performance optimization -Enabled rapid mode Specs: 3770K Sabertooth 8gb corsair lp

So basically I am currently using a WD Caviar Black 1TB (I know a 1TB hard drive with an os on it) and I was wondering, should I get a Samsung 840 500 GB SSD or even a 840 Pro 512GB, how much of a speed boost to expect? Thanks for all help guys!

I've had my 840 PRO for a little bit now and have heard good things about Samsung's Magician software being able to optimise configurations for the SSD to improve performance so I though I'd try it out, here's how it went. Which one is better for gaming and more reliable? SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series 256GB or Intel 730 Series 240GB

So, the Samsung 840 EVO SSD's are to be released next month. This SSD is meant to sit in between the 840 and the 840 Pro. Do you think there is any possibility that Samsung will release a refresh to the 840 Pro line as well? These are my thoughts: For The EVO is 3 bit per cell storage, whereas the Pro is 2 bit per cell. There is an advantage for 2 bit per cell, and the Evo may beat the Pro using 3 bit per cell. The EVO nearly matches (or beats) the Pro in raw statistics. (for example, more than double the 4K reads)here Other SSD brands are starting to produce faster, more reliable SSD's than the Pro. The Pro is due for a refresh. Against Samsung have just had their annual SSD conference thingy The Pro still performs exceptionally well The Pro could be reduced in price That's all that comes to mind at the moment, got anything else? So Samsung have recently had their 2013 Samsung SSD Global Summit. There they announced their new SSD's in the 840 line, the 840 Evo. It appears that it is meant to sit in between the 840 and the 840 Pro. Dat metal... So it is to come in five different capacities. 120GB, 250GB, 500GB, 750GB and 1000GB. It is using 19nm NAND memory, and Samsung's multicore MEX controller. Depending on the capacities, Samsung claims the Evo may double or triple the current performance of the 840. Depending on the capacity, we could see 520MB/s seq. writes, and 540MB/s seq. reads, as well as 98,000 IOPS read, and 90,000 IOPS write, Samsung have added a new feature, known as TurboWrite. It uses a buffer from 3GB on the smallest model to 12GB on the largest. In sequential writes, they saw a jump from 140MB/s to 410MB/s on the 120GB just by enabling TurboWrite. On the 250GB we see 270MB/s to 520MB/s and on the 750GB we see 420MB/s to 520MB/s. "Much like that of SanDisk’s nCache, Samsung’s TurboWrite Technology dedicates a certain portion of NAND flash memory to simulate SLC memory, which in turn becomes a pure write buffer that caches all incoming writes. The stored data subsequently completes its storage trip to the memory during idle time and, should the buffer become full prior to this, data is routed directly to the main memory as required.
