Hey hope your all having a great day! So I'm building my first PC and my final step is trying to find a windows product key but I really don't want to pay the full 120$ for home. Windows 8.1 or 10 are the only ones that I want. Can anyone tell me a website where I can buy a product key for a good price from a reputable seller?

If you haven't heard it already - http://www.techspot.com/news/68553-microsoft-now-blocks-windows-7-81-updates-kaby.html https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/03/microsoft-is-getting-ready-to-block-windows-updates-for-old-windows-on-new-chips/ Are there any major disadvantages to installing Windows 8.1 on a i5-7400 then? Should I rather go with the i5-6400?

So in panic after the wannacry out break I've been scrambling to update my system, the only problem was my Windows update was broken and I needed a working version of BITS to fix it. I have fixed BITS but now when I try to update my Windows It's stuck on searching for updates. I've tried tons of things to fix it almost everything on the interwebs but the only solution I've come up with is that Windows update itself is out of date and needs to be updated to properly communicate with Microsoft's servers. The only question that remains, what Updates do I need to download to get windows update up to date. Thanks in advanced. Also my windows update log: WindowsUpdate.log

Hey guys. I've been having problems with my hard drive for a while now. I have a Lenovo All-In-One and what happened is that I got two SMART errors. Searching this up, I found that it's probably caused by a failing hard drive so I went ahead and bought a new hard drive. This hard drive came today. Having taken out the last broken one, I proceeded and tried to install Windows 8.1 through a KnowHow USB stick - as the title suggests, this did not work... At least not to my knowledge. The reason I say this is because I'm able to boot up the USB stick, however the problem is that upon doing so, I get a black screen with the blue Windows 8 logo in the middle, and that's basically it. Nothing else happens, I've tried waiting for over 40 minutes and nothing budges. I don't know if this is a fault of me or my USB drive. I'd appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this issue and how to fix it. Thank you guys!

Greetings. I am Using Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit. I will admit to trying to use an illegitimate installation of Windows and using a product key I found on the internet. However, it didn't seem to work, as I kept getting notifications that my Windows license was due to expire, so I decided to buy an OEM key on Kinguin. I was trying to update Nexus Mod Manager when an error message showed up saying I needed Microsoft's .NET Framework 4.6 to run it. When I tried installing that, I got another message that said- 'The update corresponding to KB2919355 needs to be installed before you can install this product on Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2'. I headed over to PC Settings and tried to install the update, until I realized that I had tried to install the same update before. It hadn't worked then, and it still doesn't work now. The error message I got when I tried this a month ago was: The update 'Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based Systems (KB2919355)' failed to install with 'Error Code 80246007'. I just tried reinstalling it, and got 'Error Code 8024200B' the firs time, and 'Error Code 8024200D' the second time. I am Using Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit. I will admit to trying - and failing - to use an illegitimate installation of Windows using a product key I found on the internet. However, it didn't seem to work, as I kept getting notifications that my Windows license was due to expire, so I decided to buy an OEM key on Kinguin and enter it. After that, I tried updating Windows, and have received the same error message ever since. What can I do to fix this? Would using the 'PC Refresh' tool in the 'Recovery' tab of PC settings solve my problem? Please keep in mind that I don't have any backups of the data on this computer yet, and while I'll take care of that soon, reinstalling Windows and then restoring all my data is the last resort. I'm desperate to fix this, and would be extremely grateful for any help. Regards, Aereldor.

About a year ago I deleted the KB0 file for the free Windows 10 update, I found that it was extremely annoying and was pressuring me constantly to update it. Since then the update message never popped up and such, but at this point I want to update my computer to Windows 10. How would I be able to do this? Thank you! I just need to know is there a way i can set a sleep timer for my windows or any trusted programmes that do such?? I enjoy listening to music to sleep but i cant set windows to automatically sleep (not shut down) after a certain amount of time. A way i saw was delaying the shutdown script but I want it to sleep (or stand-by for our older demographic).

Hi guys, I am having a little trouble installing windows on my new pc. What I have done is download the .iso off of the microsoft website and bought a key for it. I have used etcher (mac) to make my usb drive a bootable drive however when I plug my usb key into my pc, it goes straight to the BIOS. I can see my drives and the USB key is detected as a drive so what I did was pressed F8 to boot my computer from the USB however it still goes straight to the BIOS. Does it have to do with me using a mac to create the usb drive bootable? Thanks

hey Guys, I am in a jam. can anyone help me out. the windows 8.1 drivers for Canon Image runner 2520 in the web are mostly not working. even the ones installing aren't getting printouts. It just beeps long and displays an error to load A4(R) paper. The issue happened when we upgraded the customer's system from win 7 to 8.1. The previously installed drivers were bought for Windows XP systems and doesn't seems to be supported in the 8.1 environment. does anyone have a fix or any drivers compatible? it is a pretty old printer but it works fantastic for bulk prints and scans so it is not expendable.

SO a bit of backstory. My parents have had this laptop for about 7 years now and while system itself is still good the HDD is showing its age. The computer they use currently has windows 8.1 installed on it as that's what came with it from the factory. No here's my problem. i recently bought a 250GB SSD to replace their HDD and im trying to find the best way of installing windows 10 on it but have it be activated. I was thinking that i could just upgrade their 8.1 to 10, link it to a Microsoft account and then install windows 10 fresh on the SSD and log in with said Microsoft account. My worry is that the license itself wont transfer. If anybody can come up with a better solution im all ears. Im just trying to avoid having to buy a new copy of windows 10.

Really at a loss with this right now and would really appreciate if anyone could offer any suggestions. A few weeks ago I decided to install GTA V after not playing any games for a while. Halfway through the into tutorial bit the games froze. I alt-tabbed out and struggled to close the game, couldn't bring up task manager, explorer crashed causing me to have to hard shutdown PC. Windows went to the disk check screen on re-boot and said my SSD was corrupt. After it booted into an old windows install I have on another HDD installed I managed to run the error check tool on the SSD and it said it found problems and had repaired them. I managed to boot back into windows on SSD and tried other games like Skyrim and Just Cause 2 and the same thing happened again. I had to go through the whole process again of disk error checking and windows repair screens on boot. I reinstalled windows from genuine windows disc. System was more stable. Games still would crash but I didn't get the disk check come up again. The SSD in question is a 5 year old Samsung 840 EVO. So I decided to get a new SSD and put a fresh install of windows on it. I've got a Samsung 860 EVO now. I have reinstalled Just Cause 2 and I can play it for a few mins and then it freezes again. If I alt-tab out windows is acting odd again, slow, task manager won't open and explorer will crash. After I manage to close the game things resume to normal. I have checked temps while game is running and everything seems fine. Windows memory test also run. 2 passes and was fine I'll put my PC specs below. The version of windows I am running is 8.1 and I've installed all windows updates and latest graphics driver. No drivers are showing as missing in device manager. All games were being run through steam. Thanks for reading. So it looks like the Android Oreo 8.0 and 8.1 updates may be causing issues with mesh and, in some cases, non-mesh wireless routers. The cause isn't exactly known yet but there are plenty of reports with people who have mesh routers and Oreo 8.0 or 8.1 who've reported issues with the signal randomly to drop or even the router to just crash or reboot completely. Google seems to be looking into the issue though but nothing has been reported back at this time. While most issues have been reported coming from the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL there are reports that other phones that have received Oreo in some form are also having similar issues. Hey guys, I have two questions that I need to have answered. I'm getting all kind of weard error messages in my log and directX errors whilst playing bf1 (i bf1 always after like 1 minute) In other games I get a directX error after 2/3 hours gametime. It looks something like DirectXerror: Getdiviceremoved(gtx970) Reinstalling drivers won't help. https://gyazo.com/f5db11a6534c54d778de859a708453cc ----> screenshot of the windows log. That brings me to my two questions: 1. Can I get rid of these errors without doing a clean windows install? 2. Can I perform a clean install of windows 10 (which I am currently using) With my 8.1 licence + CD? All suggestions are welcome

So as the title says, after updating my computer, I rebooted and noticed that my C: drive usage went up by almost 18GB. Upon further inspection I found that my swap file had went from 24GB (same as my RAM) to around 42GB. I manually set it back to 10GB minimum, 20GB max (though for some reason my Rainmeter monitoring tool shows 34GB) any reason it did this or is Windows bugging out?

So it all started 2 weeks ago or so. I started getting blue screens when I was playing games. Sometimes after a few minutes and sometimes it wouldnt happen for several hours. Basicly pretty random and I can't really pinpoint any reason to why it's happening. Anyway a few days ago, I decided to uninstall Windows 8.1 and do a clean Install of Windows 10. For about 2 days I didn't have any bluescreens, so I thought I fixed it with doing a clean install of Windows, but today it started happening again. 3 times in fact. With a diffrent error message every time: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION APC_INDEX_MISMATCH I also decided to update my BIOS to the latest version, cause I read somewhere that an outdated BIOS might cause issues like these, but that did not help either. My CPU and GPU are both running at default clock speed, so too high overclocking really shouldnt be the issue either. My best guess right now is that some piece of hardware in my PC is malfunctioning, but I have no Idea how I could narrow down, what exactly is causing the problem. Any ideas? Also here are all the Files from C:\Windows\Minidump, that have been created since I installed Windows 10. I don't really know how to open them and analyze the info they contain, but appereantly they are supposed to be able to help pinpoint the issue (if one is capable of opening and reading them) Thanks for your Time helping me out with this issue. 061916-5593-01.dmp 061916-5750-01.dmp 061916-5781-01.dmp 061916-8015-01.dmp

I couldn't find a recent, complete list of the updates to avoid for windows 8.1. If someone knows them or can link me somewhere, I'd appreciate it. I particularly want to avoid updates that upgrade you to windows 10. Are there any 'important' updates to avoid or just optional and recommended?

Hey, So iv been on 8.1 since it released and i tried 10 and ...Nah.I was using the same background for a very long time then when i found this kawaii girl i changed it. But soon after applying it i realized there was noise around the edges (look at the hair.... come on thats criminal) and it generally looked like trash compared to the original. I would point out which is the original and which one is not but whats the point its extremely clear. So is Windows compressing the wallpaper when its applied? I did some googling and there were multiple fixes that i tried that involved going to : C:\Users\Felix\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\RoamedThemeFiles\DesktopBackground and changing the name of the picture to TranscodedPicture1 (or something similar i have got the forum page up).But none of them worked for me. QUESTION: How can i get my wallpaper to not look trash? Any work arounds? Or programs i can download ? Or general suggestions? Thanks, Felix

Gday folks! I am in a bit of a pickle. I got a new PC and sold my old one. I wiped the HDD and I still have the Windows 8.1 pro CD and key. The only problem is, when I go to install that exact copy of windows on my new PC, it won't activate. What do I do. I really can't afford a new copy of windows right now. Anything that could solve this? Thanks for the help!

So, I have been slowly replacing the parts of an old computer I picked up from a friend until I eventually have a competent gaming machine. I purchased an SSD and a copy of Windows 8.1 64 bit for it, installed it, and everything works fine. Fast forward to last summer, I, for some idiotic reason, decided to put my SSD into another computer, which didn't turn on properly if I can remember. Anyway, after taking it back home I put it back into my PC and it didn't work. It went through the repair process and brought up the screen attached to this post. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Short: WIndows 8.1 64 bit doesn't want to boot properly, brings up message attached to this post.
