I recently got a HD7870 on the cheap with the intent to throw it into an old pc. unfortunately coolermaster 400w psu inside only has a single 6-pin power cable for the gpu. Can I cheap out and buy a 6 pin y-splitter that will allow me to populate both ports off of the single cable, or will that fry my card?

I'm using an amd 7870, and everytime I try to install its drivers I get a green screen and my pc crashes. The problem is everytime I start the pc, windows 10 automatically downloads and installs the drivers for the amd 7000 series and it causes me to crash. So in order to don't that I have to stop the update manually by stopping the process of the update. The latest drivers from the amd site ( 17.3.3 or something like that) don't work, it says they're already installed even though it's not true. The old catalyst drivers makes it crash. The gpu works without the drivers, very bad, but it doesn't crash and it doesn't overheat ( 24°c in idle) What could the problem be? is it the gpu?or something else related to windows and the way it installs the drivers? I already tried reinstalling windows 10 and it didn't work...

After my GPU started displaying some artifacts I had to unistinall all drives with DDU because it would even boot to windows, right now I tried installing drivers thruogh amd RELIVE and it just black screens when it's almost over so I'm forced to re-boot my computer and do the same thing over and over again. I can't seem to install drivers on 7870 twin frozr. Does this mean my GPU is dead ? I'm currently running on it but I can't turn on any game.

Hi You have helped me in the last too and I seek your advice again. My cpu is getting fucked for about 2 weeks now out of nowhere . It's stuttering like crazy. Cpu usage goes up and down from ,15% to 100% and pc shuts down itself . Most of this happens when I play csgo . Which worked fine before but one afternoon it just started stuttering. And the cpu now stutters in normal usage too like using chrome . I reinstalled steam , chrome , applied new thermal paste to the gpu and cpu. It still stutters. I'm thinking of buying the new ryzen cpu . ( With ram and Mobo of course) Pls give me some troubleshooting tips before I make my mind on buying the ryzen. If I do make my mind , pls advice me on a ryzen cpu , a Mobo and ram below 30000 INR. and pls try to slip in an SSD too. I just casually game and spend most of my time surfing the net. I am poor to be blunt and I just want to game on mid - high settings on 1080 p for at least 3-4 years on. Don't tell me to buy a new gpu pls . :'( My current config - And athlon x2 270 - yeah I know , I'm poor Mobo - ASRock 960 gcgsfx Gpu - xfx 7870 ghost 2gb ddr5 Psu- antec 500 something watt . Some case Hdd- 1tb wd green Ram - 8 gb Kingston dd3 (2x4) I have a great connection so that shouldn't be a problem . Thank you in advance guys

Hello, So as many of you may know I currently own an R7 360 2GB GPU and I have said in the past that I will upgrade to an R9 270X however... With all the GPU mining and the like there are few R9 270X's to be had on eBay but there are also quite a few 2GB versions on CeX going for £70 (One on eBay for the £80 which is very nice). So, as I was trawling through eBay like I usually do... I found a 7870 2GB version for £50. Is this worth it instead of the R9 270X or could it be a mistake down the line? Thanks - BP

I just got this card used (http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/all-previous-gpus/amd-radeon-hd-7870-double-dissipation-edition-fx-787a-cdfc). I am running it in my system alongside my gtx 1080. 1080 runs gaming/center monitor and this card runs the 5 side monitors (hopefully). I have plugged in two of my dvi monitors and when plugging in the second monitor, the first screen went black and I couldn't open radeon settings (No card detected, plug in monitor and extend desktop was the error). It works fine with one monitor but not the two and the website said that the card supports 6 monitors. On here (http://www.overclock.net/t/1396554/how-many-outputs-can-i-use-on-an-xfx-7870) someone said that the card should be able to support two monitors through dvi so I think this is possible. I also blue screen when plugging in second monitor with error "thread_stuck_in_device_driver"

So i just got a 2GB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7870 from a friend to test if it worked in my computer. He had issues with green bars across the screen and after some time it went to black screen. After this the computer failed to boot at all with the graphics card plugged in. When i tried to plug it into my computer now it actually booted. But with the green bars (See picture) . Other than that it seemed to work fine. So i tried to install new drivers just in case that was the issue. After this it black screened. It works up until the windows logo and reboots. I left it like this for a while to ensure it wasn't just regular driver installation or some crap like that. The computer doesn't turn off. All the fans keep going but it goes from black to windows logo to black and so forth. Anyone know what might cause this? and if there is a fix for it? There is no possible warranty to get.

I was wondering how much i should be able to get for a 2GB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7870 these days. The card has been used but never under any heavy load. No mining and no overclocking of any kind. Does anyone have some kind of vague idea of how much it might be worth?

So I had this spare gpu for quite some time now and it was working perfectly until I replaced it a couple of years ago. Now I have some pc parts scrambled together I thought I'd use it for a little gaming pc and put it together with 8GB DDR3 and an i5 2400 and a VS650 power supply. Now whenever I install Windows (7 and 10) they both get a black screen whenever I install ANY driver (16.x AND 17.11.1/new 17.12.1 Adrenalin edition). After installation it shows as basic microsoft display adapter in device manager and it works fine, up until any driver is installed. Could this gpu be literally dead from being in a drawer?

Card: ASUS Radeon HD7870 CPU: i7-2600k OS: Windows 10 Pro RAM: 16 GB Kingston HyperX PSU: 650w Corsair Over the past month my computer has been plagued by my graphics card crashing usually once per day since my upgrade to windows 10. Originally it started off as a "Display Driver has failed but recovered" which I attempted to troubleshoot, but throughout this month it has evolved into a full graphics card crash that turns my entire screen black, with only the outline of windows being around while the inside of the windows are all black. The crashes seem to come once a day, and they have no signs before the crash. They only happen when a game is open, in focus, on the screen though. Once the card actually crashes, it does semi-recovery but my windows lacks explorer and every window I open is completely black with an outline, so I can't even navigate anywhere. Sounds and my mouse/keyboard still works too. I understand it is an old card, but I am trying to get a bit more life out of it until I can afford a new 1060 or something. Current Diagnosis: No clue what it is right now. I've watched the temperature of the card and it goes nowhere above 65* C So far I have taken these steps: Underclocking the card's memory and core to 50 mhz below reference Swapping to a new PSU Reinstalling drivers, and trying legacy drivers as well Increasing the power limit Reseating the card Limiting FPS in games I really have no clue what it could be at this point, and I feel like I've tried everything but reinstalling windows 10. If you have any suggestions let me know. I've never really bothered to register on the forums before, but I do browse quite a bit.

So, recently I did a PSU shroud/cover for my Define R5 and as that turned out great, I thought.. why not try something more badass, handmade GPU backplate. First of all, I just sat and did some sketches in Paint and Photoshop to see how my backplate could look like. So there I was, 3 A.M .. sketching, knowing that I've got school the other morning Finally got it done and I was pretty happy with the idea itself. So off I go.. to work. Taking a big metal plate, cutting it into the right size, first of all, the holes.. oh god, the holes. It took me 3 plates to actually get the holes to match. As I got the holes done I drew the cutout lines, cut them with plasma cutter and filed the rest of it, also used a metal saw for the sharp corners inside. With the plate done, did some sanding for the ''first look'' and went to get the screws and nuts to fit the GPU holes. Got back, attached it (NB! Had to take the cooler off to mount the backplate) and saw the result, I am already really happy.. although, some modifications have to be made due to the motherboard. I'm hoping to get it painted this week, I'l keep you guys updated . . . Oh yeah, by the way,, I might attach blue LED's under the '' R '' looking shape

Similarly to another thread here about amd card. I updated the AMD graphics driver yesterday didn't do much on computer so nothing happened. Today decided to open a game, few minutes into it got black screen with vertical stripes restarted the pc and from then I can't access it normally. After the Windows logo a small line flickers at the bottom and it goes black. It work on safe mode with networking. I uninstalled the driver from device manager, restarted and it was all good for 1-2 minutes then it went to black again. The driver was automatically reinstalled. Now I removed it with DDU, restarted and got the same black screen after a minute, the only difference that it wasn't reinstalled. I downloaded the AMD software to install new drivers but I can't install it on the safe mode and get an error "no device driver detected". Maybe there is a separate driver that I can install without running the software? I'm using HD 7870. Had similar problems with black screens during games, but it would always be fixed by restarting pc. An update: I tried so more things. Removed the gpu completely cleaned everything AMD related with DDU, plugged it back in and now it works with Microsoft basic display adapter. I cannot install the amd drivers as it crashes everytime and the black screen returns needing to repeat the whole process to get basic display adapter installed. Any ideas?

Hi I'm trying to decide between 2 graphics cards that I found on Craigslist(kind of my own super scrap yard wars deal so the retail price doesn't matter). the comparisons I saw on gpu boss arnt right and I couldn't find any other comparisons for the right cards The first card is a gigabyte 670 windforce 2gb P# GV-N670OC-2GD http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16814125423 The second is a HIS 7870 P# H787F2G2M http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16814161411 Can anyone let me know what would be the best card for when I eventual upgrade my system to a decent budget gaming pc? Currently I'm only looking at graphics cards but my current used pc I'm using has a core 2 quad 8gb ram I believe the motherboard and psu are stock for a t3400 dell precision I can only assume it was used for cad designing because it had 2 fx3700 quadros in it when I got it. I don't plan on upgrading the gpu for a while so I want to make sure I pick the one that will give me the best graphics for as long as it can. Despite the gpu being ancient in computer years. From what I can't tell the 670 is the better card for gaming but the 7870 is better for crunching number? Would that make a difference when playing emulators? Thanks in advance for any help!

Greetings everyone Before getting a graphic card for my build i thought that I'll go for a GTX 970. But then Nvidia launched the GTX 1070 so i changed my plan and bought a used 'Sapphire AMD/ATI HD 7870 Ghz Edition 2 GB GDDR5' so that i can buy the GTX 1070 later in the future. For now i want to overclock the GPU i have but before that i need to water cool it as i live in a place where it can get really hot. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a used GPU by getting a water cooling kit or a Water Cooler bracket like NZXT Kraken G10 (as it still requires a pre-filled water cooler, also I'm not convinced enough that the fan will properly cool the VRMs). Third option being "Ghetto Water Cooler", like the one shown in NCIX Tech Tips. Using zip ties feels too shabby, so no. My plan is to get a CPU water cooler that fits very closely to the four holes in the PCB. A 25mm thick, 120x120 rad will do the job for the main GPU chip but please feel free to advice about the same. GOAL - To cool the main chip with a water cooler(Ghetto Mount) and to cool the VRMs efficiently for overclocking purposes. - To blow all the hot air generated by the GPU and blow it totally out of the case as effectively as possible. For the research i looked up at articles such as http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphics/display/sapphire-radeon-hd-7870-ghz-edition-oc.html#sect0 for the initial design. For VRMs i was thinking of cooling them with aluminum or copper heat sinks with thermal adhesive pads and blowing cool air through them out of the case in a enclosed reference cooler design as cooling them with the help of existing VRMs plate won't do any good. But to design this particular kind of cooler i need the exact dimension and design of the PCB if possible which I'm not able to find anywhere. I'm thinking of asking about the PCB design and dimensions from Sapphire but I'm not sure if they will disclose this kind of information. So what i need is information about the PCB, advise for VRM cooling, if anyone has a better idea other than the above mentioned way, advise for Rad size for the main GPU chip. Please advise people as this community is so helpful, i mean it. And i apologize for the long post. Thanks in advance.

Alright, so I wanted to benchmark my GPU and see how much an overclock of my GPU would make it better. Problem is, the performance is pretty much the same, before and after the overclock. I doubt it's a bottleneck in particular, but I guess it would be the overclock not working correctly or something? Im a bit confused. Program used: MSI Afterburner CPU: AMD FX-6300 GPU: AMD 7870 HIS GHz (Fan Ed.) Stock GPU core clock 1000MHz Overclocked 1150MHz Any help is appreciated. -Curious Crafting

So i own Saphire HD7870 since almost 3 years ago. Everything is run smoothly until one day when playing Cities:Skyline, the game crashed and leaves some artifacts. I tried restart the windows, and it stuck on blackscreen after windows booting. Reinstalling drivers and windows, and still no luck. Screen goes black after installing the driver. Since this card is no longer under warranty, any idea how to fix this? thanks

The temperatures are falling, corn is drying, bees are searching for food, bears are stocking up, and humans are starting to run there PCs 24/7 to make some heat. Alright I can't decide weather to Fold for EVGA bucks or mine an alt coin. As I had great luck mining Ziftrcoins as I got it from the start and made about .5 Bitcoins with just an i5 4670K and GTX760s. Now I have 2 GTX760s and I slapped a GTX100i on my i5 and overclocked it. My plan is to make a little money like $5 a week or something. I am more looking forward to the heat as I want my room toasty as I am sick right now and I don't like always being under blankets. What do you guys think? Fold or Mine? Which will yield the higher dollar output?

Both the 7870 and 7950 are HIS's brand with one fan...so might not be that quiet, and might run hot....but their prices are too low! There is no beating the 7870 Ghz edition in its price range! If you opt for the larger $129 7950, you might want to consider a gtx 670....but good luck finding a new one ;p

I make a mistake when trying to move the HDD and accidentally touch the back pcb of my graphics card with my HDD (I use custom-made case). it creates a spark and my fan gpu is not working anymore (glad the GPU is OK). Now i'm running on stock heatsink (gpu fan and cover removed) and use 2 12cm fan (which is molex and it's noisy). I got 60-ish on gaming and up to 81'c on stress test. (ambient temp is around 26-30'c. yes it's hot) is this configs ok? if not, what aftermarket cooler should i choose for my GPU? thanks

I Built a gaming computer some time last Year for a friend and it worked great with no problems. the specs are listed below: Intel I7 3770k @ 4.2 ghz Asrock Z77 extreme 4 Gskill ripjaws ram 2x 4gb @1600 Diamond Amd Radeon hd 7870 ghz edition I can go in more depth on the parts if needed, but recently he wanted to add a 2nd gpu to run crossfire with so we found the exact same card from the same brand and with the same amount of memory. we connected the cards with a crossfire bridge and made sure that they were evenly spaced for the motherboard. now here is the problem, we looked all over the amd catalyst control center and the crossfire option is not present anywhere, we then made sure both cards were detected and they were both in the windows device manager and listed as running properly. we have spent over 3 days troubleshooting, watching videos, and testing the cards separately and still can not find out why it wont work. any help would be greatly appreciated.
