  1. Ok so I built a 6850K/X99 system many years ago and probably toward the start of 2020 I was having some memory errors and was no longer able to use my XMP profile without constant bluescreens. I was able to run pretty stable again by turning off XMP so I thought bummer my memory is dying. About 6ish months after the memory issues I started to get a boot error with the code on the motherboard referring to "CPU North Bridge", I had an undervolt applied to my chip but I thought okay something must be wrong with my CPU to have memory errors and can no longer use the same undervolt settings. I went another couple of months with factory settings on my cpu/memory/gpu with no problems until one day I couldn't boot again with the same CPU North Bridge error code. I was busy with school so I just went ahead and bought a new CPU/mobo (9700K/Z370) to get going again. To my surprise, the new system was able to run XMP on my old memory and has still been going strong for a year with no errors. I would like to sell my 6850K or my X99 board but I don't know which one was the source of the issues and I can't test one without the other.
  2. Hello, I'm trying to overclocking my i7 6850k that I bought a while ago, and using OCCT to test it. I'm trying to achieve 4.1Ghz (nothing exceptional reading what other people achieved) as a cooling system I have a thermalright macho. (so air cooled) and my motherboard it's an MSI x99 carbon temperature during OCCT are around 75/82 degree celsius, and I put a vCore of 1.230v What I do not understand is the voltage values on OCCT, and it seems that if I lower or raise the voltage the temperature do not change much (I did some test with vcore= 1.240 and 1.250 and temperature were the same) but what i see in OCCT is that the voltage value in the graph is higher at lower vcore voltage (in the screenshot vcore=1.23 and voltage on graph around 200 000 and in another case vcore=1.25 but graph shows around 159 000) I have a couple of questions: - what are all those value under CPU Vcore? (VIN1 AVCC 3VCC...etc.), tried googling it, but it didn't helped - is there something else i should tweak on the bios to be sure that the system isn't raising some other voltage values to make sure the overclock is stable? - are those temperatures acceptable? i hear everywhere that I should go under 70 degrees, but 70 degrees while playing, i mean during normal use, or 70 while stressing it with OCCT? when I see come overclocking guides/posts I read everywhere that people went up till vcore 1.35, which i guess my cpu will melt seeing those high temp at 1.25 (but maybe those temps are related of my questions above?) - should i look at the average temperature which is around 75/78 or at the maximum temperature reached (in this case by core4 90 degrees) ? - how much can I hope to lower those temps if i use a water cooling system (like the corsair H110i type of system: close loop already built) ? If you need any other information I can provided it to you. Much appreciate your answers Yann P.S. sorry for my English: it is not my primary language
  3. Processor: Motherboard: Memory: Hard Drive: Crucial M4 128GB SSD, Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD, Crucial M500 960GB, 2x2TB WD Black, 2x3TB WD Red (also few more 1 and 2 tb drives not in but used) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 ACX Monitor: ASUS VG278H 3D Monitor, HP w2207 Wide LCD Monitor, Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium HD Headphones: Sennheiser PC 363D Keyboard: K70 Rapid Fire Mouse: Logitech G700 Mouse Surface: Corsair Cloth Mat XXL Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Computer Case: CORSAIR 800D So my last PC was a 3930k with a Rampage IV Extreme Dead from a leaked AIO cooler. Now i have been waiting for ryzen to release. So i have come down to Processor: AMD R7 1700x vs 6850k Motherboard: ??? vs Asus X99-A II ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory So my biggest limiting factor is PCIe lanes or sata drives? I stream games like Battlefield 4/1 Overwatch and other games. Now with the 3930k i hit the limit of what i could stream at 1080p @ 30fps or 720p @ 60fps and still look good.(not pixels all over) I also save the recording at the same time, my 2tb drives tended to stay 60-80% full with uncut video and a 3 tb drive with done stuff on it and the other has most of my movies i got saved. The SSDs are 128GB for OS and 256GB Programs and 960GB for games. I do have a few drives i plug in and clone my stuff every few months so i do not lose a lot. So do i spend more on the 6850k and not get a GTX 1080 but for sure not hit some limit of PCIe with all my drives running or a risk a r7 1700x and get a GTX 1080 and find a limit on the pcie with my drives? As i said i have drives not in but i do use but I already looking for more space so been look at PCIe raid cards for more drives.
  4. Hi there, currently building a PC (for 3D Animation/GPU rendering/Editing/VFX) and just when I thought I had it all sorted I've heard of this 'bottlenecking', I don't know if it's just a gaming term or not but to be safe - my question is will two ASUS STRIX 1080 Ti graphic cards bottleneck an Intel Core i7-6850k CPU in any of the tasks mentioned above? please dumb down any answers for me as you can tell I'm not too clued in on hardware. thanks in advance!
  5. Hey guys, I'm looking to build a new PC very soon and have come to a little detour. I was set on getting the NZXT 440 case...and here's the rest. MOBO - Asus Deluxe II CPU - 6850K RAM - Corsair Dom. Plat. PSU - EVGA 750 Supernova Here is where I'm stuck.. I noticed that there is a combo deal on newegg for the Asus Rampage V Edition 10 with the 6850k for less money than my current MOBO and CPU combo. Unfortunately, that motherboard is extended atx and the case is not. I know some people have made the Rampage IV fit into that case, but I hadn't seen many with the Rampage V. So, is it worth ordering and trying to modify? Should I get a different case or just spend more on a lesser motherboard? Or..just wait for another combo deal? What cases are similar to 440? I haven't seen many. Budget is around 1,500 give or take, and I already a GPU with later upgrade plans. Build purpose is 4k raw video, 3d modeling & animation, VR, and gaming. Thanks, Billy
  6. Hi I'm looking for a good x99 board with a LGA-2011v3 socket and at least 2 m.2 gen 3 slots preferably with nvme support. (I'm not sure if there are any gen3 m.2 ports that don't support nvme but I thought I'd mention it anyways just in case) i am starting a x99 build that will be featureing the 40 lane 6850k (picked one up fairly cheap a few months back and though it would be fun) and I think I would like to try 2 950pros in raid 0 as a boot drive. So having a hardware raid controller built in would also be a plus. the only thing I seem to be able to find that seems close to this is the asrock x99 taichi and for some reason I can't explain looking at that board dosent give me the warm fuzzy feeling my new tempered glass case deserves.... so rather than settling I figured I'd come here and ask all my favorite people if they had any ideas. So any ideas? ps. added features like built in Bluetooth or RGB, RGB and more RGB are always welcome but by no means a must.
  7. Is 1.45v a safe max voltage for a water-cooled setup on this cpu? vrm and chipset are also water cooled
  8. Frig I hate upgrading. Just had to get that out of the way Last upgrade was Oct 2008 (just over 8+ years) and I don't really fallow computer hardware trends that much between upgrades so I end up having to relearn a bunch of stuff come time to upgrade. Me mind is going all mushy If you are TLDR adverse read Intro then skip down to bottom. Intro ------------ /Sigh time for some TLDR. First a little background about myself. I'm a self taught programmer of 30+ years going back to MSDOS. I currently don't really make any money programming but hoping to change that … eventually. Although I consider myself a gamer I have not really been playing to many games these last few years. Mostly simple games like Utopian Miner, Agar.io, Solitair, Duck Tails, Brutal Doom. Simple games that don't require a huge time investment. I also played World of Warcraft from late BC to end of WoD 5/3/15 but grew disinterested, because various reasons and my system can't play it at max settings & addons, getting sluggish frame rates. Again 2008 system can't exactly play DOOM 4 at ultra settings,. so have not been playing any recent games. GTA IV was very sluggish. And much as my steam library keeps growing with never played games, THANK YOU LORD GABIN, THANK YOU SO DAM MUCH! #TwoFingerEyePoint #SteamSales #Sarcasm, VR may get me playing larger games that require a longer investment of time. And I very much would like to dabble in VR development as I have some ideas I'd like to play around with. My current 2008 system specs can be found here https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/createdbyx/saved/#view=smNqsY I started using google spreadsheets to list off all the various upgrades I was interested in but it quickly became too cumbersome when I started trying to mix and match items. Spreadsheet available here (out of date don't use as reference) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1x5doU2-TaIgSKVsjjt_XGTNq7un7_iKPSmzte-eLcEs/edit?usp=sharing So then I figured I would just write a WPF app to help me decide what hardware to go with. It's not helping either and is leading me to suffer the dreaded Analysis paralysis. Cost Calculator app available as attached file (Works but still beta, ask if it does not work for u, Windows 7+, WPF & .NET 4 etc) CostCalculatorDataNew.xml is my current dataset as of Nov 14, 2016 Fanboy much? ---------- Quick note about AMD/Nvidia/Intel, I don't consider myself a fanboy of any company, but traditionally I have only went with AMD parts CPU and GPU all the way back to 2000's. I have gone with AMD all these years because I understand what can happen if AMD were ever to tank. You think Intel prices are high? How high would they be with out AMD keeping them in check. I mean who else is there that has the resources to get into the CPU/GPU game? Qualcomm? Hah, das funny. My point is I have gone with AMD not because they offer the best of the best parts but because they offer a decent cost effective alternative to there competitors. Without them I fear what could happen. So for the last 2-3 years I've been hearing about AMD's ZEN and have held off upgrading these last few years so that I can purchase a Zen cpu but go figure here I am again with money in the bank for a upgrade and Zen is no where to be found. Pushed back til sometime 2017 and as of yet Nov 2016 with no real hardware in the hands of reviewers other then one controlled blender benchmark. I'm sorry AMD but it's time for me to upgrade, I've waited and been waiting and your offerings are too little to late. I suspect high end Zen chips will still not be able to compete with the likes of a 6900K or just barely. And heard rumors of $300-$400 price? I can't see them releasing a enthusiast CPU that can compete with a 6950X or Xeon. It sucks but it is what it is. Perhaps in another 6+ years I'll go back to a AMD offering but for this upgrade cycle it's not looking good. About Programming --------------- I have 23Gigs of compresssed (*.zip) json files that I have downloaded from the blizzard world of warcraft auction house API. From Dec 2013 to Dec 2014. Was going to use it for my Wowtracks website so I can perform an analysis of economic changes both before and after the realm merges that blizz was doing. Thought it be interesting to see how a realm merge affected the economy of a server. But uncompressed it's like 100Gb and would require painful amounts of processing time. I am also writing a search app to parse through it and ask questions etc. Not even gonna attempt it with my current system as I'll be dead and buried before I get back any results. I also would like to start getting more into Genetic algorithms (specifically terrain generation, procedural game worlds), been dabbling with them a bit but again it can require a lot of processing, and take a long time, and greatly benefits from more cores if coded right. I also need to develop some unity3d related code that requires a whole lot of processing time. Because my system is unable to play modern games I have been spending most of my time programming my various projects. It spend virtually 7 days a week coding, and usually up til 4am & sometimes 7 am. Stupid primate body always having to waste time sleeping and pewpin and stuff Current 2008 system ----------- Although it has served me well, my $3200 2008 system is showing it's age. Running VS.NET 2015 with a few extensions, and a 240 project solution can be unbearably slow at times, and even doing simple actions, takes 1-2 seconds where back 2008 there was no waiting, almost all tasks were instant and no lag. Last big game I played was GTA IV and even on low settings it was sluggish, probably CPU bound. Have not bought any new games last few years because can't run em at max settings. got a GTX 660 hand me down from my brother but yeah, twas not an upgrade. Ran Steam VR test and said CPU was good but I don't trust it given my experience. See attached screen shot. Because Reasons: ------------ Processor: 6 Core minimum 6850K & 10+ Cores prefered E5-2640 V4 / E5-2697 V3 / E5-2690 V4 -> For your average Gamer/Power user a 6700K from what I'm reading is more then enough, but for me the more cores I can get my hands on the better. 6700k-6800k 28 PCIE lanes, and only 4-6 cores makes me uneasy as I don't think it can stand the test of time IE: 8+ year upgrade cycles. 10-14 Core chips I think will hold up much better long term for programming, video editing etc, but may suffer long term for gaming in terms of there slower clock speeds & single core performance. On the other hand DX12 looks to improve multicore gaming perf and 6+ years down the line having those extra cores could prove beneficial and may not be a bottle neck after all. Kind of a toss up. Going with a 10+ core system means making sacrifices. Not costly sacrifices just undesirable ones aka no VR! /SadFace. BTW I believe the E5-2697 V3 is what linus used in the 7 gamers 1 pc build so I know it can play modern games. Video Card: Minimum RX 480 (or crossfire) but GTX 1080 preferred not because Nvidia fan boy but because it's one of the best single card solutions available at the moment, Titan X too pricey for budget. RX 480 in crossfire is cheaper and basically on par with GTX 1080 performance but again 2 cards, double power usage, and if water cooled need 2 water blocks which adds cost. RX 480 PCI voltage drama a little while back and I'm hearing 1080 over heating/smoking on some cards don't give me a lot of confidence but what can you do when they are the only viable options /shrug If I get VR with my upgrade will need best GFX card I can get. Power Supply: I've got a Corsair TX850 watt. It's got plenty of power for any system I build, but again it's 8+ years old. How long can a power supply last? I'm a heavy computer user & on the computer every day multiple hours a day. Do I really want to trust a heavily used 8+ year old PSU with new (expensive) system components, and for how much longer before I upgrade it. I'm leaning towards a 1200-1500 watt PSU. I don't care about power bills, I care about dead silent operation under demanding CPU/GPU loads. 1200W and above seems like they don't kick in there fans until 40% power usage and my various components will probably be 400W to 550W putting it at basically that 40% power usage rate. Fa, la, la, la ,la,... la la la la: Christmas sales or boxing week sales? Buy now or wait a few more weeks? Decisions decisions. VR Gets & Deserves it's own dedicated section! ----------------------- Oh VR, the little technology that could. For you youngins out there us old geezers remember the day way back when. A time when Nintendo power magazine was the shit, the SNES was king and the internet was but a dream. A 56k dialup dream. Oh yes VR was not invented by the lucky palmer, but in fact has been a technology in development for many a decades. So why is it only gaining popularity now? Because it's only now that it actually makes sense from a hardware specs perspective. I made a blog post on my website where I laid down some of my thought about the recent state of VR. In that (more TLDR) blog post I lay out my concerns and the almost dejavu history of VR as we know it today. 20 Years ago I had the opportunity to buy a VR head set Forte VFX1 but never did. With the way things are going I fear VR is teetering on the edge of falling back into the abyss of oblivion. Only to be resurrected once again in the future. Again it's dejavu, here I am with the means to get into VR and here I am again on the fence. I hate that feeling. I HATE IT. Do I dive in, or do I wait. We are already seeing vr adoption rates plateauing according to steam surveys. If you are reading this you are already a technology inclined person. This is linus tech tips after all. So don't ever forget that you live in a technology bubble. So don't think VR is here to stay. It's way to early to call it. It's about the exercise! No, really. It really is. If you read through all this TLDR you know that I spend a lot of time on my ass. VR, especially room scale VR will get me off my ass and get active. Especially over the winter months up here in Canada where I don't get out side much. Summer time I'm out side cycling, swimming every other day. But sure would be nice come winter where I could stay active and play games to boot! I'm also wondering what the refresh cycle of VR is going to be like. Yearly, every 2 years? I'm already seeing revamps from both Oculus and Vive with wireless functionality, and new controllers, tweaked headsets. Given VR has been available for a few months now should I wait? Or say screw it and dive in nao. If I did get a VR helmet I think I would start making VR videos of various types. Certainly not what every one else is doing but something different from a programmers perspective. As for Vive or Oculus? Oculus: Room scale *beta*, Initially designed for seated experiences, no controllers til December, better designed controllers then vive in my opinion, Facebook #grumble #grumble stupid facebook, Flirting with DRM in the past, causing uproars/drama. What did you expect it's Facebook, aesthetically better overall look/feel/design! Vive: Room scale, comes with controllers, light houses, some researchers/articles claiming 0.3mm accuracy (lasers beh beh! pew pew), front facing camera, chaperone system, STEAM! Our lord and savior Gabin. Half-Life 3 confirmed & coming soon for VR. Don't act like it isn't! Really, Gabe, really? Kind of on the nose there partnering with HTC. HTC = Halflife Three Confirmed!. You want to sell a crap ton of headsets. Half life three confirmed. Aw yeah! Also I would love to start programming some VR stuff that I have been thinking about but kinda need a headset to do that. Very pricey head sets. See Sacrifices section. Sacrifices ------------ I'm willing to forgo a M.2 SSD, Power Supply, Quieter Case Fans, Water Cooling. Also willing to go air cooling and put up with more unbearable fan noise, *sigh* if I have to. I have a Surface Pro 2 and dam, the only thing I hear is the click of a mouse. Was really hoping to build a dead silent PC but we'll see. My current system is 2-3 feet away and is loud as *bleep* and very annoying. I really really really, perdy pweeze can i haz some VR? Pleace don't repeat your self history please don't. In some builds I sacrifice VR and put that money towards a beefier CPU and system, but no VR /cries *Some* Builds I'm considering -------------- All builds you see here are copied from the CostCalculator app i wrote. 9. Hey everyone I currently got some of the parts of my new build together and have been working on the overclock for my 6850K. I am currently chasing down a 4.6GHz overclock that is currently just outside of my reach (Awaiting my EKWB goodie box). My question is what is your X99 Broadwell-E CPU running for core voltage and clocks peed, and what cooling are you currently using? I have been looking around and most outlets or info I can find seems to show me that 4.4GHz is what you should expect from these CPUs but most of that info come from review samples.
  10. Just finished building my first Intel HEDT system. I got a CPU through Intel Retail Edge a while back and finally got all the parts lined up. MOBO - ASRock Taichi x99 CPU - Intel 6850k GPU - ASUS Striix GTX1060 6GB RAM - 32gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3000 (4x8gb) PSU - Corsair 750w AIO Cooler - Corsair H110i I'm having a weird issue while trying to get a stable overclock. The memory defaults to 2133, and if I set the multiplier to 42 I can do 4.2Ghz at ~1.32 Vcore with temps staying below 85 during Prime95 max heat, never crashing, and never rising above about 60-65 while gaming. It seems perfectly stable but I would like to run the memory at its rated 3000 speed since I paid a premium for it. The first thing I did was to set the XMP Profile. The memory jumps to the right speed, but the BCLK automatically changes to 125 which throws my CPU overclock off and makes me alter the BCLK/PCIE ratio. The closest I can get without messing with the BCLK is 4.125Ghz or 4.250Ghz. Both of those frequencies crash during prime with the memory at XMP speeds, and upping the Vcore past 1.34-1.35 nets way too much heat to be useful. I went back into the UEFI, changed the BCLK back to 100, the multiplier back to 42, and then manually altered the memory divider to get to 3000Mhz on the memory. Everything appears to work great, its stable again, but when I go into system properties it only shows 24GB. CPU-z can see all 4 sticks and Corsair LINK is still running the RGB colors, but one stick always disappears from Windows. I shuffled the memory sticks around, they all work individually, and it isn't always the same slot that it loses it either so I don't think it is a bad board. I upped the memory to 1.4v (from a stock 1.35) but it didn't seem to make a difference. I manually changed all the DRAM timings to match the XMP profile but that didn't change anything either. As long as I go back to the XMP profile or reset the BIOS the last stick magically reappears, it just doesn't like the non XMP profiles. At the end of the day I am guessing it is just a voltage issue, I know the VCCSA is a potential candidate but there is no VCCSA label in the UEFI. Is it just named something different? I don't want to start turning any more knobs without some advice. I tried to add a little to the CPU cache voltage and it ended up spiking the VCore to like 1.45 (for about 4 seconds before I stopped it) and now I'm afraid to mess with anything else. My old 3570k was literally just a multiplier tweak and one bump of the offset, and my DDR3 was set it and forget it at XMP speeds. I knew x99 could be picky but I've never had a BIOS with so many settings before and can't really afford to be damaging a 2000 dollar PC.
  11. Hey everyone; We have setup a software engineering business roughly 11 months now running. We finally have a business space and have spare hardware as a result of RMA's etc. Our current setup is: Old gtx680 rig (old i7 with it) - used for menial tasks. My workstation: Ryzen 7 1800x 32gb Ram GTX1080 Nas: G4560 CPU 4x2Tb WD Red mITX Motherboard But as a result of RMA's from assorted systems we've had we have spare: Intel 6850K X99 MSI GODLIKE Gaming Carbon Motherboard Gigabyte Z270-HD3 Motherboard We build enterprise logistic software for companies using Elixir/Phoenix and mostly through Linux. What are some options that would be handy for the spare hardware? Selling it in Aus is fairly poor currently so we wouldn't get a whole heap for selling the stuff. Is there anything we could make out of them i.e dedicated cpu for staging etc? Thank you
  12. Hello all I recently sold my old system (4790k and 780ti) and am looking at a new build. I already know I'll be going with a 1080, 16gb ddr4 and a 500gb nvme. My real debate is what processor and chipset to go with. While I plan to wait and see what coffee lake has to offer I wonder whats best to go with now. From what I've seen I could get a 1700(x) and mid range x370 board or get a deal on a i7 6850k and mid range board for a similar price. I plan to overclock moderately and while I'm a heavy gamer I would like more cores than the 7700k for engineering apps and rendering. Edit my buddy will be moving to threadripper soon and offered the 6850k and x99 asrock taichi for 450
  13. Hey guys, So I have somewhat finished the first iteration of this build, however there are updates and changes yet to come. I wanted to do something I hadnt seen done very much. After a lot of deliberation over which case to use as a platform i landed on the Core P3. I love the modularity and flexibility of the case, and I wanted the challenge of making something unique from such a minimal chassis. I also wanted to do this without breaking the bank completely. Here is what I have so far: Motherboard: Asus x99 a-ii CPU: Intel i7 6850k RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16gb 3000MHz kit GPU: GTX 1080 Founders (currently a gtx 780 until the block and back plate come in. PSU: EVGA 650 GS I am not going to list all of the water cooling bits since it isnt finished yet but i will say that i am currently running a swiftech apogee drive ii cpu water block/ pump combo, and a single xspc ex360 radiator. This was my first time doing hardline tubing and i couldnt be happier with how it turned out. I did some intricate bends just for added aesthetics. If there are any questions about the build or anything please feel free to ask. I do have a second 360mm rad that will be going into the case but my creativity has yet to yield a good way to mount the second. I do have a few solid ideas kicking around tho. For now here are some crappy pics. And one before i did the water cooling. Ill be taking some better quality pics soon hopfully. Maybe tomorrow. lol JRob

  15. Hello, i am looking for some suggessions of cpu cooler (air not any liquid please) for my cpu 6850k. I am a video renderer not a gamer and have no plan of overclocking my cpu. I might run my pc most of the time around 10- 12 hours. Do i need any cpu cooler? If yes, do i need any high end cpu air cooler or a low budget cooler will be more than enough ? If i do need, which one should i buy? Thanks in advance for you suggession?
  16. Hi there, I'm totally new to hardware. I’m currently building my first PC which I will be using for work in 3D animation/dynamics/GPU rendering/large scale photo editing/VFX. This will be a work machine only - no gaming. Here is the software i use: Cinema 4D - Octane renderer - Redshift renderer Side FX Houdini After Effects Premiere Photoshop I am aware that flaunting very expensive PC Part Picker lists for the sake of it is a thing on these forums but this is not the case here. This build is built with future expansion in mind, I want to be adding to it if I need something in the future rather than buying from scratch. The components have been picked by looking at various sources from the net and even though I think I have filtered well through the hype-word marketing shit-storm of the hardware world, still, at times I’ve gone for a faster of model of this or faster model of that and even gone for a familiar brand name just to be on the safe side, purely because I don’t know these things and want to be getting value for money. Could you please point out anything wrong that you see - conflicting components, potential bottlenecks, any parts where I can save money, and any other suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated! If anyone has built their PC with some of these parts and can advise on potential pitfalls during the build; 'you need this cable or this extra part' etc this will also be helpful as I will be building it on my own and have never done so before. Here is the list: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/VCK3Gf Here are is my justification for the parts which might help: Corsair 900D Large case for expansion in the future and also helps with prevention of overheating. ASUS X99-E WS USB 3.1 Has 40PCI lanes with x16 on each. Looks great for future expansion. Intel i7-6850K 6 core is enough as all renderers are moving to GPU rendering and in general, in animation, single core performance is valued over how many cores + Allows up to 40pci lanes also allows 128GB RAM for future expansion. I know AMD are bringing new ones out but I’m not interested in them. ASUS STRIX 1080 Ti (x2) Just like the FE but has fans which will keep it cool so no additional GPU cooling needed in this case. Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB DDR4 RAM 2400Mhz Trusted brand. Not the fastest out there but CPU can’t support more than 2400. Kraken X62 AIO Seems to have the best reviews and said to be quiet. 1TB M.2 SSD Some of the software I use caches to memory and by default it will go to the SSD, hence the 1TB. I know I can manually tell it to cache to the HDD but there times when you don't want it to do this. WD Red 2TB HDD (x2, one for back-up) Have a WD already and I’m happy with it, also RED are meant to be very quiet + Back up drive is important, as these will be work related files. Optical Drive They all look the same, any specific recommendations or things to look for? Wireless Card The motherboard doesn’t have WI-FI. All cards seem to be the same but any recommendations? Windows 10 Home? Pro? Which one do I need? Corsair 1200W PSU 1200 Overkill? I got this calculation from here: https://outervision.com/b/XRZ1fm I’ve heard going overboard with the Voltage will cause your components to not work to their full potential- will this be an issue here? This forum is the last stop before purchasing and I’m looking to leave no stone unturned, so feel free to pick apart the list as much as possible - again many thanks in advance!
  17. Hi everyone, I need some help at making a final choice in a PC build. I'm a Best Buy Canada employee so, I have access to intel retail edge program. And at the moment i can get a 6850k for 199$USD. I don't see a reason not to take this deal but i want to know if it's really worth it. And if it is what board i should get for it? (I hesitate between the Strix X99 from Asus or the X99A from Asus ) Do you have any other ideas for a motherboard? The thing that makes me hesitate is that i already have a 4790k with 24gb of ram. and a 4770k with 8gb of ram. (So, I would take 32gb with the 6850k) I plan on selling the 4770k build to cover the costs. But my final question is. Do you guys think it is worth all the trouble? Or should i just get myself a 1080/*1080ti* To make it simple the promo i have right now makes it that i have a CPU/MOBO/RAM for a bit more than the price of just the CPU. I can answer more questions about my "problem" if needed but i'm mainly looking for some general ideas and opinions Thank you all for your time!

  20. Hello every one, I am not able to decide that which cpu to buy. Intel 6800K OR 6850K? Please help me decide which is better and have a good value for money.
  21. Well I am relatively new to both the overclocking community and LinusTechTips Forum. I just got a brand new custom rig and a i7 6850K. I managed to push the clock speed to 4.3 GHz but I have high hopes for this chip. How far should I push it and what voltage should I put into it? I am using the MasterLiquid Pro 240 cooler so heat is not too big of a problem. Any guides here would be really helpful. What would be a relatively healthy speed for my system? Should I enable CPU C-states so that idle clock speeds plummet?
  22. Hello, I recently got a 6850k, however, it never reaches maximum clock during certain operations, it is currently stable at 4.4ghz. That being said, if I run Aida64's FPU test, the multiplier only goes up to 4.1ghz at max, while temperatures are in the high 40s and low 50s, that being said, if I do a simple CPU stress test, I can get 4.4ghz. Unfortunately, I do a considerable amount of rendering, while rendering video, I only reach 4.1ghz again. My friend has a 5820k and he does not run into this issue so I am curious what is going on. For other information my build is as such: EVGA x99 Classified Intel 6850k (Water cooled twin 140mm fans) EVGA 1200 watt PSU 2 x Nvidia 980ti 950 nvme drive 512 GB 850 pro 512 GB an assortment of other disk based drives for archived storage Any help is greatly appreciated, Sincerely, Jake
  23. Greetings everyone: I just completed my first build and I am struggling to resolve some issues with Overclocking, Audio and M2 Drive. I have been a lurker here for a while now and am hopeful I will find a solution here: OVERCLOCKING The Motherboard does not seem to be permitted overclocking or there is some issue which is causing system fail loop. Attempt 1 – After PC assembly, PC booted into BIOS, Windows was successfully installed. After installing all utilities from Pen Drive which came with the M/B, I opened AI Suite III. The software asked me to run a 5 way optimization. After clicking on the optimization button, the PC went into a restart mode and there was no feed on the monitor thereafter for several hours. After several attempts to restart (including emptying CMOS and installing a new BIOS battery) the computer got stuck at American Megatrends screen with a message “Overclocking Failed! Please enter setup to re-configure your system.” I entered BIOS, loaded defaults and continued using the PC. Attempt 2 – After discussing with ASUS Tech Support as to why RAM was reflecting as 2300 MHZ while the RAM is 3000 MHZ, I entered BIOS to switch on XMP. While exiting BIOS after switching XMP on, it showed several changes to CPU settings which were not made by me but I assumed these were automatically made in order to accommodate XMP profile. As I exited BIOS, CP went into the same error loop. The computer got stuck at American Megatrends screen with a message “Overclocking Failed! Please enter setup to re-configure your system.” I entered BIOS, loaded defaults and continued using the PC. Attempt 3 – I followed an online guide to overclocking (link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW6gBneg3VA) which isn’t very extreme and the target CPU clock was 4.0 Ghz. I made changes as reflected in this video however upon exiting BIOS after making changes CP went into the same error loop. The computer got stuck at American Megatrends screen with a message “Overclocking Failed! Please enter setup to re-configure your system.” I entered BIOS, loaded defaults and continued using the PC. No further overclocking attempts were made. Has anyone faced similar issues? Any recommended workarounds? AUDIO I plugged in my stereo speakers into the lime colored audio jack at the back of the PC (as recommended by the manual). When I turn on my speakers, I get persistent static and whirring sounds which get acute as I initiate any commands on the PC. E.g. it seems like static when CPU is not performing any new commands but as I initiate a new task something as simple as copy/pasting, the whirring increases. I have tried to reconnect all ports, and reinstall drivers a few times but to no avail. I have tried the same wire and speakers on my two other computers and no such issue. Performance with M2 I have a SSD 960 EVO NVMe M.2 500GB plugged into the M2 port. I have installed windows and all programs on this drive. Somehow, working with this drive is giving me slower results when compared with using the same set of programs on the SATA Samsung 850 pro. Do you know if there are any compatibility issues with this drive? Or the port in general? The second drive which gave me faster results is SSD 850 EVO 2.5" SATA III 500GB which is weird since read/write speed of the m@ drive is much faster. I have tried reading about these issues but I haven't got far. 24. Specs of my rig are below So I have an issue it only happens on Rocket League. My screen will go black the sound of the game continues, but its just extended of the same note, and come back, but it goes to the desktop and it takes me a good 15-20 seconds to get the game going again although it will resume right where I left off so not a full crash. I want to fix this because it hurts my competitive rank when stuff like this happens.
