  1. Summary On Sunday, YouTuber Samperson uploaded a video in which he played DOOM within Windows Notepad. The developer claims that DOOM may be run without any modifications to Notepad. The video already got over half a million views. This project was even cool enough to get John Romero, one of the creators of Doom, to react on Twitter. "Incredible," John Romero says in a tweet responding to Chiet. Quotes My thoughts Right when you thought you've seen DOOM run on just about everything, someone comes up with a new way to run it. I think this is cool, adding to the long list of what we've seen DOOM run on. Having John Romero chime in is also pretty sweet too, I must say. Hopefully the creator of this releases the tools soon to be able to do this yourself. I also think it running at 60 fps is surprising. Sources https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/fan-manages-to-run-doom-in-windows-notepad.html https://www.tomshardware.com/news/doom-runs-at-60-fps-in-notepad https://hothardware.com/news/doom-notepad-john-romero-noticed https://www.pcgamer.com/doom-notepad/
  2. 60 Hz is very likely still the most common refresh rate to play at. I just gave it a shot for an hour, everything looked blurry whenever I moved my camera, couldn't focus a thing Could it be that most people just got used to that blurriness? Once you go 120+ Hz is so hard to go back...
  3. Hey guys to those Overwatch players with a GTX 1060/1070 For GTX 1060: May i know if i run at 1440p, Max Settings while recording at 1080p is it possible to maintain 60 fps minimum? For GTX 1070: Basically same question as GTX 1060. Im asking this question because probably the heaviest graphics card work im going to do is Overwatch 1440p Max settings while recording at 1080p and wonder if i should go for the GTX 1060 as the GTX 1070 might be overkill. If you do play Overwatch and have a GTX 1060 card and run at 1440p Max settings may i know your average FPS? (If you do play Overwatch and have either a GTX 1060/1070 card please tell me your average FPS with that settings on!)
  4. What are the best 1080p 60fps settings My currently settings result in choppy footage if i don't have vsync on
  5. Hello everyone, I just signed up to the forum. I wanted to ask you all for opinions and advice about the build that I plan to do. I currently only have a laptop (HP Pavillion Star Wars edition 15,6" with Intel Core i7-6500U @ 2,50 GHz, nVidia GeForce GT940m and 8 GB of RAM) for gaming and everyday use so I finally want to build my first PC over the summer period. I've been combining different parts on the internet for over a year now and now I've come up with this combination. I would use the PC for 1440p 60 FPS gaming and perhaps streaming (not sure about that, though) and some content creation. The important fact is that I live in Germany, so the prices most likely aren't compatible with yours. I couldnt decide between Intel Core i5 7600k and Ryzen 5 1600x. However, after seeing multiple benchmarks, I think that the Intel chip is superior in gaming (sort of equal to Ryzen 7 1700), but the Ryzen seems to be more futureproof because of the extra cores. I've squeezed the Ryzen 7 in the budget because the 1600x comes with no cooler anyway. I plan to upgrade the stock cooler to some kind of AIO in the future (most likely an NZXT Kraken X52) That's why I think the Ryzen 7 1700 would be better option than Core i5 or Ryzen 5, especially if I'm going to be doing some streaming and/or content creation. The motherboard choice was very hard. I went with ASUS ROG Strix B350-F Gaming mostly because of neutral looks and RGB lighting. I find almost all other B350 boards very ugly because of overused color accents (mostly red). If I went with the Intel, my motherboard of choice was MSI Z270 SLI Plus which is way superior to the chosen B350, but I think they both have everything what I need, especially since the RAM can overclock up to 3200 MHz on both boards. Speaking of RAM, I chose G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory. Since I'm going RGB, might as well go all the way. This memory is quite expensive, but I don't think I would go for anything slower than 3200 MHz since the Ryzen chips benefit from the fast RAM. For the storage, I went with a fast Samsung - 960 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive which would be enough for Windows, programms and a game or two. As a second storage drive, I chose a Toshiba - 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive because it is the cheapest 2 TB drive at the moment. The graphics card was also a hard choice. The GTX1080 is still out of my budget and I skipped the GTX1060 because, if I'm starting from scratch, I want to go past 1080p and enjoy the "sharpness" of 1440p resolution (4k is still way too expensive for me). That's why I chose the GTX1070 which I still plan to overcock slightly. The ASUS ROG Strix O8G GeForce GTX 1070 OC was again chosen mostly because of neutral looks and support for ASUS Aura RGB. Almost all other cards that are cheaper have some hideous color accents and, if I manage to catch this one for around 115€, I would be satisfied. I am not going to buy a graphics card before the launch of Vega. I am 100% sure that I will stay with nVidia, but I think that the prices will drop once Vega comes out. The power supply of choice was Corsair RMx 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply. At first I wanted to go with a 650W version, but this one costs only 10€ more so why not. I would cram all this in an all black Phanteks Eclipse P400S Tempered Glass Edition case. I love the looks and it got really positive reviews, as far as I know. However, I liked a few cases from this year's Computex so I'm willing to wait if something better comes out. What I'm looking for in a case is tempered glass, minimalistic design, front radiator support, power supply basement and good acoustics. I've mentioned that I'm starting from scratch. That means that I also need a monitor. I've somehow found the Lenovo L27q-10, 27" and I think it looks beautiful. I have a pretty big room so I want a 27" monitor and this one has a 1440p IPS panel for 299€. I didn't find anything cheaper/better. I also need a pair of speakers. I want some kind of studio monitors for my audio recordings so I went with Mackie CR3 monitors. For 109€ they are within the budget and have everything I need. A keyboard and a mouse I have already so this doesn't need to be counted in the expense. In conclusion, it would cost me around 1825€ to get all the parts for my personal summer build from scratch. I really want to spend as little as possible and I definitely don't want to spend over 2000€. That's why I plan to buy the parts gradually, as they are on discounts. I am using a price agent web page so I am notified about all the discounts in my country for the chosen parts. If everything went according to the plan, this build with the monitor and the speakers would cost me 1590€. Since I still haven't actually bought anything, none of these parts are final and everything is open for discussion. I would appreciate your opinions and advice if some parts are overkill or not good enough, or if I forgot to include something. I combined these parts myself from the reviews on Youtube and my personal preference. I am in no way educated about this so don't be too harsh if I made some ridiculous decisions. I have all these parts in the build log on Partpicker https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/yFBJQV Best regards.
  6. I haven´t heard about it in the videos so far, but why Linus doesn´t film in 60FPS? They being a tech channel should now about quality improvement. Not to compare, but Gamers Nexus does it. What you would prefer 4K 30fps or 2K 60FPS? I will definitively go for the second.
  7. Before I drop the $30 & waste 2 days downloading it, I'd like to know how good or bad my system should run GTA 5. Specs are in my signature, hopefully someone else in this community has some at least close to mine that's played the game. I've tried finding videos of gameplay but most just run a 1060 6GB while mines a 3. Do y'all think I should easily be able to get a consistent 60 FPS in most places & if so on what graphical settings?
  8. Hey Guyz.. I have a dell precision t3500 with x5670 at stock speed.. can't overclock because my motherboard doesn't support overclocking and can't buy another cpu or motherboard because i don't have that much money right now.. so i have a chance to get an r9 270x at 75$ which is really good for that performance and my powersupply support that card also i know my gpu will be on the lower side but atleast i can buy that ri8 now otherwise i have to wait alot.. i will change my gpu in future but ri8 now i can only buy that.. i wanted to ask can i achieve 50 -60 fps in modern AAA titles like fortnite, gta 5 , doom , rise of the tomb raider at 1080p? and can i achive 50 - 60 fps in bad optimize games like pubg? i like pubg alot can i achieve 50 to 60 fps in 1080p very low in pubg or if not then is it possible in 720p? overall specs are xeon x5670 at stock 525 watt psu with two 6 pin 8 gb ddr3 ram
  9. Sorry for my bad english Soo guyz i have a pc specs below Dell precission t3500 Xeon x5670 at stock 2.93 turbo upto 3.20 8 gb ddr3 ram 525 watr power supply with two 6 pin connectors I don't have a gpu ri8 now but i have a budget around 100$ the main disadvantage is that ebay, amazon and new egg like famous websites doesn't support my country it's a long story that why it doesn't.. there is only a one online store where people sale their stuff used and new both.. so you can suggest me different cards and i will immediately check and tell you about the price of them .. the price of graphic cards in my country is a little bit messed up so suggest me freely.. i know my cpu is a little bit old and i am worried about the single core performance of my cpu which is lower and also i can't overclock it .. but still i wanted to ask can it perform 60 fps at 1080p low? The titles i wanted to run is PUBG, fortnite, doom, gta 5, wwe 2k18 and more.. also i know pubg is not well optimized but i am happy at 50 fps with pubg.. i can't build my pc woth scratch and also in my online store the x5670 is the best option for my mobo so can't upgrade that.. now suggest me some graphic cards... And plz tell me alot so i can pick one of them easily because there could be a shortage of some of the cards in my store Thanks
  10. Hello, i will be building a pc on my birthday but i just cant figger out what parts i need to pick. will you help me? My budged 600 euro. if the price goes just alitlebit over that its no problem, but try not to go over that. What will i do with this pc and what games will i play I will be streaming the games i play on Twitch. Pubg, Rainbow six, cod ww2, gta 5. where do i live I live in the netherlands in EU. please dont pick US prices because here everything is way more expensive or cheaper. storage 1 terabyte HDD is good enough. i dont need a ssd.
  11. I have a problem with my new laptop. So I got it yesterday, I installed the latest window version and updated all my drivers. But then when i play game the fps is capped 60fps. VSync is off (in Nvidia settings and in game ), DVR is off, I even deleted the xbox app. The only way to fix this problem is to do an advance restart, after the restart everything works normally again. However if i just let my laptop go to sleep or turn it off, it will have that weird glitch again. For more context it is a dell 7567 gaming series with a gtx 1050ti
  12. can it run 1080p medium or higher at 60/50 fps is there is some thing better at this budget https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sFdZnn
  13. My current computer setup is in my spoiler which I can also write here if needed. I do not believe my computer can max out 1080p games with 60+ fps, which is what I want and dream. At the moment I play a lot of Overwatch and some steam games (Lego). I used to play a lot of Payday 2 which I eventually might go back to, at least to some degree. The intended use is gaming. My monitor refresh rate is 60hz and resolution is 1980x1080 (I think this is right?). I do like playing and trying a lot of different games. But I rarely play AAA titles. So my question is; Do you think I should upgrade aka remove some parts for newer parts or build a whole new computer? I have not yet decided what budget I will have for my computer only what I want it to achieve.
  14. So I recorded a gameplay for my friend in 1080p 60fps and I use window movie maker (Free software) to edit my video and my video exported out as 1080p 29fps . I am fine with 29fps but problem is that certain clip has massive frame drop (15fps to 20fps). I look at my original file and it does not have any frame drop at all. if anyone know how to fix or recommend other editing software please let me know. I appreciate the help
  15. Hello fellow LTT fans! This is my first time posting and English is not my native language, so I apologize in advance for mistakes. I will be using € as currency and post the equivalent in $US based on the prices of my country (Italy). I have been a LTT youtube subscriber for I think 1 year now and I have learned so much about computers that I fell like I can build a PC on my own. Since I don't have experience, I still would like some input from you guys. I have been reading some threads about builds in the last few days but none of them are exactly what I would like my desktop PC to be. Why am I upgrading? My current desktop PC just cannot handle new games anymore. I did not build my current PC. I asked a tech shop for a gaming PC for a reasonable price and this is what they got me about 3 years ago (if I'm not mistaken). CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00 Ghz Motherboard: FOXCONN RAM: 8 GB DDR2 GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5700 I would love to play games at more than lowest settings, but I can barely run them at 30 fps on low. There are already games that I basically can't run at all, but the last nail in the coffin for my PC was the fact that I won't be able to run Xcom 2 (strange reason, but I love the franchise and it is THE game that I look forward in 2016). This pushed me to upgrade and be able to play newer games. Don't get me wrong, I am actually amazed how good my current PC runs and with the upgrade to Windows 10 it somehow runs even better now. I have always taken care of it and it is still perfect for university, for work and for everything aside from gaming. This is to clarify that I don't want to recycle the parts I already have, but I don't think it can be done since the parts are a bit old. Maybe I can use the monitor for the new build, but that will be addressed in another paragraph. What do I want from the new PC? It has to: - run current games at 1080p 60 fps on high settings - be everlasting: I know that components can fail, but, assuming 0 fails, it has to last 5+ years. What I mean by that is that in 5+ years it should potentially still run games at 1080p 60 fps at lowest settings - be decent for small video editing and recording - potentially decent for streaming (hoping that my ISP will provide more upload in the near future) - Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU: my Intel processor has never had a single problem, my AMD graphics cards however has been the source of constant problems at least for me - absolutely DDR4 RAM - SSD for boot and frequently played / demanding games and 1 TB HDD - budget: 1,600€ (1,750$) - max. 2,000€ (2,200$) only for really good reasons - VR support for the future (not going to buy it anytime soon) - upgrade potential up to 2 graphics cards in SLI What is not required? I don't care about: - anything more than 1080p - good looks: it can be an extremely ugly case, no matching colors, no matching LEDs (if any at all) - how quiet it is: it can be loud (not to unbearable levels) - size: it does not matter (at least in this CASE) (sorry) - overclocking: since this should be an "everlasting" build, I won't be doing any overclocking. First because I'm not confident about my ability to do it and second because I don't want to shorten the lifespan of single components. The reason for the list above is just to save money. I tried to save as much money as possible until now and I don't want to keep saving for a new PC again in 3 years. Also, I cannot afford to have high specs and spend money to make it look good unfortunately. Of course, if I can save money or spend the same amount of money with better appearance and/or less noise I would go for it. What games would I play on it? At the moment I'm playing Killing Floor 2, Xcom Enemy Within, Civilization 5, Heroes of the Storm, Blood Bowl 2, Rocket League, Europa Unviersalis 4, Guild Wars 2, World of Warships and Armored Warfare. These are just games that I can run on my current rig at lowest settings just to get a playable frame rate. With the new build I would definitely play things like Overwatch, the upcoming Xcom 2, maybe Rainbow 6: Siege in addition to the current games on higher settings. What have I come up with? After some research I have come up with the following build. I tried to find every restriction (like same CPU socket) but I'm sure I forgot something and I don't want to buy all of this stuff without being sure that everything works together. CPU: Intel i7 - 6700 - 364.00€ (397.00$) Motherboard: Asus Z170-E - 158.00€ (178.00$) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (4x4GB) 2133 - 113.00€ (123.00$) GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 980Ti - 704.00€ (768.00$) - GV-N98TWF30C-6GD, don't know what's up with that description - I went for a 980Ti because it would be future-proof at least for my standards and I found this one priced the same as a reference 980Ti SSD: Kingston 120 GB SSDNow KC300 - 72.00€ (79.00$) HDD: Seagate 1 TB Sata ST1000DM003 Barracuda 7200.14 - 52.00€ (57.00$) PSU: Corsair CS550M - 87.00€ (95.00$) - I don't actually understand much about PSU and pins so input is welcome Case: Cooler Master Case N300 - 49.00€ (54.00$) - I have no idea what a good case should have, so I went for a brand I heard a lot and a cheap version. Inputs are welcome, remember that I don't actually care how it looks, it just needs to be a good case. TOTAL: 1,604.00€ (1,751.00$) I thought about switching the CPU for an Intel i5 - 6600 but I don't know if it's worth saving 130.00€ (142.00$) for what I would like to use it for and I don't plan to replace the CPU in any way. Inputs are welcome. I don't know if the motherboard can support 2 graphics cards in SLI. At first I went for a 2 PCIe motherboard but there didn't seem to be enough space for 2 GPUs in SLI. Should I wait for Pascal (Nvidia)? I wanted to build this for my birthday in February but I don't know if I should wait for Pascal. What do you guys think knowing my usage and plan? What monitor should I consider buying? My current monitor is 1080p 60hz and only supports VGA and DVI-D inputs so I assume I have to buy a new one. I want to save money on this too so I only need a 1080p 60hz monitor with g-sync, but I am having a hard time finding a good one since the discussions around the internet are mostly about 1440p and 144hz monitors. If you have any suggestions they would be much appreciated. The money for the monitor is in a separate budget, meaning that it is not included in the 1.600€ (1.750$) budget I mentioned above. One additional note: I would like to be able to have a two monitors setup in the future once I save enough money for a second one. I don't know if this information actually changes anything about the build and I don't think I can use my current monitor as the second one (correct me if I'm wrong). The first would be for gaming and the second for multitasking like listening to music, to videos, to LTT videos ( ), to check internet pages and so on. This is pretty much a general description about my build plan. If you have any advice on where I could save money and where I should spend more feel free to tell me. I apologize for possible borderline "heretical" things I might have said or considered in my build. I would also like to thank you in advance for your time, your input and your feedback. Every criticism is appreciated.
  16. I have a lenovo Y70 with a 4GB 960M, the hdmi is only 1.4a not 2.0 thus 4k is limited to 30hz. I was wondering if I could leverage the GTX960M which I know can run 4k at 60hz through a USB 3.0 displayport adapter. I havent seen this done before and didnt know if it could be done.
  17. Hello, I'm trying to build a gaming 1080p 60 fps PC, i currently own 8GB 1600Mhz ram (1x4Gb Kingstone cl10, 2x2Gb Corsair cl10 - both are used but work properly). and transcend 256 GB SSD. i found an AMD 7600 CPU bundled with a Gigabyte GAF2A88XMD3H board for a 100$ which i think of buying for my build... i'm planning to get a decent PSU and GTX 970 with the rest of the budget.. my questions are: 1) knowing the memory is a bit old and probably need changing in the future, will the CPU bottleneck the graphics card? 2) do you think i should get a different CPU or\and board? The goal is to spend as little as possible, and get high settings and high as possible FPS... I'm from Israel so the prices are different, any but any suggestions will be considered! Thank you!
  18. Graphics Card: MSI GTX 980 Ti GAMING Case: NZXT H440 Black/Blue CPU: Intel i7-6700k Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2400MHz 16GB CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro H100i GTX Motherboard: ASUS Z170-A Operating System: Windows 10 SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSHD: Seagate Desktop SSHD 2TB PSU: Corsair RM850(850W) I want to play FC4, Witcher 3 and upcoming higly intensive games in 1440p at atleast 60 FPS. But i find it very expensive, do i need all of this or is it overkill? Feel free to leave any suggestions . I will use a 144Hz monitor.
  19. So i just realized that my ultrawide 1440p monitor is 60 hz max (I knew it was, just didn't take into consideration the consequences). Thus - It makes less sense to overkill with a GPU. Why would you get a GPU that can push more than 60 fps maxed out. Supposedly to give your system a longer life without need to upgrade. Am I overthinking this or is this a valid point?
  20. I am looking to build a gaming pc what are the minimum specs to get 60 fps on battlefield 4. budget: around $800
  21. I have a HP Pavillion DV6 Laptop and I was wondering which games I could probably play at 60+ FPS? CPU: Intel Core i7 Q720 @1.60GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M RAM: 4GB Display: 1366x768 720p
  22. Hi I'm currently trying to get GTA V to run at 60 fps. It runs over 60 fps many times when I'm in a building or looking a simple part of the map; however whenever I'm outside it goes down to 40 fps and when I'm driving very fast it goes down to 30 fps. Is there any way to improve my frames by adjusting some settings. I will have my current settings attached. Also everything in advanced graphics is turned off. One weird thing to note is that going windowed mode (1366 x 768) or fullscreen (1920 x 1080) doesn't really affect my fps either. I don't mind what window resolution I have to use as long as I can get 60 fps with some decent settings. My build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ViralV3/saved/#view=63Lbt6
  23. Before anyone says anything, this isn't an argument between 30, 60 and 120FPS etc, this is merely a discussion on 60FPS gaming/gameplay. So lets get started. 60fps gaming isn't new, we've had it for a long time, and it's great and all, but with the "recent" youtube update to allow 60FPS playback, there's something that I have noticed with it. Whenever I play any of my games at 60fps or beyond, they never truly look as smooth as what I see in videos or in webm's. And the reason I bring this up is because I was watching some guy on twitch stream Cities Skylines, and I noticed something about the smoothness of 60fps stream that has never happened to me before in any other videos or playing games, I was suddenly getting dizzy from the smoothness of it. So then I started noticing something which before getting dizzy this one time, I have never noticed before. The gaming experience of 60fps and the viewing experience of the same game, are 2 different things. Now, I know it's always been different and such, but I just find it funny that I have only just noticed this difference in the smoothness of the gameplay. Because whenever I play any games at above 60fps, they never look as smooth as any video, and it's now starting to bug me. I don't know if any of you guys are seeing the same thing I see, maybe some of you can see the butter smoothness that you see when viewing 60fps gamepla, maybe some of you don't. And I honestly don't fully understand what is happening as to why I can't really see the same smoothness, I read online (lets be serious, it was on reddit) that this is because when you are playing the game, you don't notice it, you are "busy" perceiving other things that are currently going on, as to when you are viewing someone doing the same task, the butter smoothness is much more apparent. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that I don't notice the difference between 30 and 60 fps, I am saying that I don't see the same butter smoothness that videos/streams/webms deliver. If you don't know the butter smoothness I am talking about, then I redirect you to the r/60fpsGamingGifs/ on reddit, that's the butter smoothness I am talking about. (Not sure how to make wembs auto play here) TL;DR: Can't see the butter smoothness of 60fps gameplay in videos/streams/webms compared to playing it yourself. But yeah, those are my thoughts, just wanted to throw this out there and see what other people think about this subject.
  24. Greetings, There are 2 needs that I'm trying to combine. One is the need for a "new laptop" - the other is moving gameplay recording off of my main rig and onto something else. I've been considering a new laptop, but there's a capture card that I would very much like to be able to use: The DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/decklink/techspecs/ (Just select it in the list on top of the page) Basically it should cover all my recording needs, capturing 4K @ 60 FPS. I know it sounds farfetched, but this is more of an investment for the future. But unfortunately, this thing requires a PCIe 8x lane according to the page. That definitely rules out laptops, as they don't even have available lanes to begin with afaik. So I'm thinking of maybe settling for a middle solution - a small form factor PC that can be used as a laptop (aka screen attached), but also has room enough for the capture card. This PC would need to have 2 PCIe lanes - one for the graphics card, and one for the capture card. I know very little of form factors out there, and don't know how to specifically find a motherboard with two PCIe 8x lanes while being as small as possible. The second part of the problem is that the mini PC would also have to support a built-in screen, and I've seen such rigs showcased in the past, but despite repeated googling, I can't seem to find a single one.. So in short, I'm interested in the cheapest way to get a portable gaming rig with built in screen that can also have the capture card. I don't mind buying things piece by piece and putting them together later. This might also be cheaper. I just need it to be very convenient/portable. Anyone know where to look for these builds?
