I know that such ghoulish endeavours are generally inadvisable and widely scowled at, but please hear me out. I want to upgrade an office pc with an r7 260x that I have lying around. The PSU has got the juice but not the connectors: it is rated at 450W with a 24A 12V rail; total max power draw of the system should still be well under 300W with the r7 260x added. Now, would the combined power of the PCI express (75W?) and a SATA to six pin be enough? Can the single sata wiring take it, or should I use a 2*Sata to six pin connector?

Hi Quick question. I have a Corsair CX550M PSU. I have a Palit Geforce 1060 3GB GPU. Rest of the system in the description. Anyway. I want to know if it is okay to power my GPU with the following old molex-6 pin pci-e adapter that I am attaching a photo of. The PSU does come with a dual 6+2 pci e power connectors, but for visual reasons = as little cables in a small case as possible, I have used the above. Everything is running fine like this, but: Can it damage the GPU in the long run? I read something about rails having to be utilized properly. It is also for obvious reasons, connected through the SATA/Periphial port on the PSU, not the PCI-e one. The adapter came from an old PC from 2008. (This used to power a GTX 260!!) Does this matter? Do cables get "too old" ? I also noticed that there are only five wires on this adapter, as opposed to six on the one that came with the PSU. Does it affect the lifetime of the GPU? Like I said, everything is working fine with this setup, and I intend to keep it this way if it is good to go.

Hi so I'm installing my GPU currently (asus dual 1060 6gb) and it only has a 6 pin power connecter, yet I have two 6+2 power connectors. Is this normal? And is there any way I can hide the cable...? Thank you!

Help with RGB fans. Different size 6 pin connectors?
ash_parekh1992 posted a topic in Cases and Mods
Hey all I bought a Kolink Luminosity case with 2 RGB fans pre-installed and an AvP Spectrum RGB kit assuming the 6 pin connectors would all be the same size. Unfortunately they aren't and i was wondering if anyone had any idea if i can get adapters so they run into the same controller? the controller fits the smaller of the 2 cables -
Hey, I'm upgrading my living room PC and allowing it to play games on it, previously it was a C2D E7500, pretty crap. So, i plan on upgrading it with under 100USD, (live in SG so under 150SGD). Here it is: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zvbKTH Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zvbKTH/by_merchant/ CPU Cooler: Scythe - SCBSK-1000 38.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($10.00) Motherboard: Biostar - G41D3C Micro ATX LGA775 Motherboard (Purchased For $0.00) Memory: Kingston - ValueRAM 2GB (1 x 2GB) DDR3-1333 Memory (Purchased For $0.00) Memory: Kingston - 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($15.00) Storage: Hitachi - Deskstar 320GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($3.00) Video Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card ($56.00) Case: Cooler Master - Elite 311 (Silver) ATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For $0.00) Power Supply: Corsair - Professional 1050W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $0.00) Optical Drive: LG - WH12LS30 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer (Purchased For $0.00) Keyboard: Logitech - Value 100 Wired Standard Keyboard (Purchased For $0.00) Mouse: Logitech - SBF-96 Wired Optical Mouse (Purchased For $0.00) Other: Intel Xeon X5450 Processer (Q9650 equivelant) ($12.00) Other: Cooler Master V1 Thermal Compound (Purchased) Other: Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo (Purchased) Other: Headway SF450W junk crap explosive power supply (Purchased) Other: LGA 771 to 775 mod sticker ($2.00) Total: $98.00 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-06-25 02:07 EDT-0400 What do you think of it? The X5450 is a Core 2 Quad Q9650 equivalent but it is better binned with the highest quality silicon and thus better overclocks and it's cheap as well. LGA 771 to 775 mod. Nice that the GTX 670 would come with a pre installed Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo! Also is it possible to use the 6/8 pin connectors from my 24/7 mining rig (which is why there is such a overkill PSU). My mining rig is currently only using ~650W or so. My main PSU only has one 6 pin. Will anything detrimental to the parts happen if the mining rig suddenly shuts off while i am gaming, must i plug out the 6/8 pin connectors to the mining PSU every time i am done using this PC. Thanks for your time. TL;DR can i use a power supply from a mining 24/7 rig to power my graphics card in this rig?

Today I bought a dell poweredge 2950 II rackmount server from a surplus store. I'm considering trying to put a graphics card in it, for which there are many hurtles. My main concern at the moment is getting power to the card though pice 6 and/or 8 pin power connectors. The front of the unit has hot swap bays for SAS hard drives, which I do not intend to use. powering the back plane for these tray is a 20 pin ATX power connector. Has anyone seen a conversion from ATX 20 pin to PCIe 6 or 8 pin power? if not seen, theoretically possible?

I'm trying to add power for my CPU which is 4x2 and a separate 2x2. My PSU (corsair RMX 850w, fully modular) does not include a 2x2 plug, am I able to use the 4x4 CPU and just use half of the plug? The other option is to use two 1x2 PCIe plugs.

Hi! I’ve got a Corsair RM850x PSU and ASUS Radeon 5700 XT GPU. Mentioned GPU have 8 pins and 6 pins power sockets. i currently have 8 to 8 pin cable + {6+2 pin} cables connected. Second one is connected to PCIe (8pin) port on PSU and just a 6 pins to GPU (the +2 pins are dangling near the GPU) and it don’t looks good ? I have plenty of 6 pins ports free on my PSU, but these are named “Peripheral & SATA”. I would want to get a 6 pin cable to power up my GPU without that “dangling +2”. Can I simply plug a 6 pin cable into one of those “Peripheral & SATA” ports on PSU? Or maybe I could buy a PCIe 8-pin to 6-pin cable (I don’t know if something like that exist)? OR maybe there is a different way of dealing with it, that I am not aware of? Any help greatly appreciated!

I have a GPU that requires an 8-pin PCIE connector. My PSU only has 2x 6pin power connectors. So I took my 8 pin PCIE power cable, took two pins off one side and plugged it into the PSU, and then plugged the 8 pin end into the GPU. Is this the correct way? edit: This is my GPU

Hello. I’m having trouble installing my graphics card. I am using this PSU and my card requires 8-pin PCIE power connection. I’m not sure if my PSU has the right connections for this. I have a 6–8 pin adapter, but it requires a 6-pin PCIE cable which I can’t seem to find on Amazon. Any ideas on how to go about this?

My PSU has 4 6+2 pin PCIe cables and my gpu requires both 8 pin and 6 pin. Can I just use the 6 pin part of the 6+2 cable for the 6 pin and use the 6+2 pin for the 8 pin?

I have a motherboard with 2x6 pin power connectors from the motherboard to the psu. I want to add a graphics card, but want to know if there are any limitations because of the 2x6 pin connectors instead of the standard 24 pin? The graphics card I want to add is either a 750 ti, 950 or 960. The power supply is 450w, so no problem there. The motherboard I am using: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=1JW-000M-000T5

Hey guys, I got myself a Kolink Observatory case with 4 included fans. My problem is that they are powered through a included fan hub powered through molex, which makes the fans run at 100% permanently. Would have just bought another hub, but these fans use a 6 pin connector and it seems pretty much impossible to find a hub for them that also allows speed control. Does anybody have a idea to work around my problem?

So, I put together a build for my buddy off of an old ebay prebuilt and a gtx 750ti that I had laying around. It came with the usual crappy dell (275w, i think) psu, but this time, it had basically NO connectors to spare. I brought my 2x molex to 6 pin adapters w/ me bc I knew the card wouldn't boot unless it had power to the 6 pin connecter, but I also knew that 750tis were 75w cards, so it didn't really matter where that 6 pin power came from. but that's the issue, this psu had a 24 pin, a 4 pin (cpu), 2 sata daisy chained by the dvd drive, and 2 sata daisy chained by the hdd. This left a whopping TWO sata connectors unused. No molex, no floppy, and obviously no pcie power left over. I ended up having to use my psu that I was planning on using in a future build on his computer, but now I'd really like to get it back, if possible. due to the AWFUL assortment of connectors from the psu, the only thing I have left to power the gpu with would be a sata (or 2x sata) to 6 pin adapter. Now, I now this is usually a bad plan, and I know you guys are gonna say "just buy a cheap psu", but the slot provides 75w and the card has a 75w tdp, and the rest of the system is MAYBE 90W at full load, so I really don't feel like investing extra money into this super low end budget built and the psu has almost double the wattage required (275w psu vs ~165w max draw which I'd honestly estimate to be closer to 140-150 after I undervolt the gpu) My question is this, what is the sequence in which the card draws power? ie, when idling (say 15w power draw), does it draw 15w from the slot? or maybe 10 from the slot and 5 from connector? how about at full load (75w)? does it draw all 75w from the slot, or maybe 32.5 from the slot and 32.5 from the adapter? Basically I want to know if I'm ever at risk of drawing more than 5-10w from the adapter, bc I know it could supply at least that much and I'd like to stay safe. Keep in mind, I plan to undervolt just to ensure that it never exceeds or even gets close to its 75w tdp.

I remember in a preview seeing an adapter for the RX 480 that moved the top 6 pin connector to the side of the graphics card to the side. Are those being sold? Have these been available before for other cards? (I imagine this type of thing is proprietary) The next best thing would be a right angled 6 pin adapter.

I couldn't find on newegg, or even on SeaSonic's website: Where does it say what connectors the PSU have? I want to know if a PSU has 2 6pin connectors for a R9-380x but I can't find the information...

Would using a 8 pin(6+2) connector cause any problems for graphics card that uses only a 6 pin? I recently replaced my old PSU with a corsair CX500 500w power supply, but now when I play games the graphics card is barely used. For example in planetside 2 on my old PSU the game would utilize the GPU as indicated on the FPS monitor and would run at 60-40 fps on all low. However with the new PSU it runs at 20-10, and the fps counter indicates only the CPU is being used. Could it be that a 6 pin powered card does not run with a 6+2 pin? My current graphics card is a GTX550ti.

Anyone know where i can get a Male to Male solid Black PCI-e 6Pin connector? No combo just 6pin, I have a CM Silent pro M2 and i hate the flat style PCI-e cables (very hard to flex horizontal) The PSU is modular and the modular input for the PCI-e is the same on both ends, like i can plug ether end of the cable into my GPU and viseversa with PSU.
