  1. i have a server that used to run a bunch of VMs (2697a v4) with 64gb ecc ram, now that it doesnt need all those cores, i need fewer higher speed cores to host some game servers, i have a 5930k, can i just throw that in the board instead of the 2597a v4 but still keep the ecc ram, will it just run as normal ram without being able to use the ecc features? or do i need to get new ram?
  2. First Priority: Got an offer from a friend and want to check with you guys if it's a good idea: - Intel Core i7 5930k - Asus X99 Deluxe (Sockel 2011-3, 8 DDR4 RAM-Slots - 4x 8GB DDR4 2400 MHz CL15 (G.Skill Ripjaws Black) - CPU Cooler Prolimatech Genesis with 2x 140mm beQuiet! Silent Wings. - Price 300-350€ Second Priority: If i decide to buy it, figure out what PSU and Case to buy with it. I will keep my Storage, 1050ti (upgrade when gpu Prices have normalized) 1. Budget & Location Germany, € (My English is good, but not perfect) No real budget, don’t want to spend more than i have to, In true German fashion. Also seems like a good Idea with the PC hardware Market being completely Bonkers right now. 2. Aim I dualboot Pop!_OS (Ubuntu) and Windows Linux is my Work OS. Having to reboot before starting a Game really helps me focus and i use a custom keyboard layout called Neo2 (neo-layout.org) Which is a constant pain in Windows. Especially UWP Apps. Windows is for Gaming. Games I’ve played lately: Cyberpunk 2077,Total War: Warhammer (2), Doom, Rise of the Tomb Raider, XCOM 2, Total War Shogun. I want to run a Nextcloud from a Docker container to sync my files... I will also run Windows in a VM sometimes to use MS Office when someone sends me a (.docx/.xlsx/.pptx) or other windows exclusive stuff. In the Future i might want to experiment with GPU Passthrough after upgrading my Graphics card but that would be just for fun. 3. Monitors 32inch 2560x1440 165hz 24inch 1920x1080 4. Peripherals No, I have everything. 5. Why are you upgrading? My Asus Office PC is just not cutting it anymore. i5-4460, 8gb ddr3 Ram. I got it for free about 1.5 Years ago and made it into my first Gaming capable computer by buying a used 1050ti for 70€ Productivity-Reasons to Upgrade: I need more CPU cores and more RAM to build my nextcloud server, play around with virtualization, make the pc more responsive in general (I’m a crazy multi tasker) Gaming-Reasons to Upgrade: The CPU is not always, but often the bottleneck. Especially when playing 1080p minimum Settings. I also have so close everything else, sometimes reboot to free up CPU and RAM usage. I hope this is not way to Rambling/Detailed. Thanks in advance. PS/ Different Tangent. Is an ebay 6900x or Xeon e5-26.... A realistic upgrade path mabe one year down the line?
  3. Hello all! Idk if this is the right section to post this in, but here it goes. I am building my friend his first PC with a few extra parts I had lying around. These parts include an i7-5930k cpu, an x99 Sabertooth motherboard, and a Samsung 960 evo m.2 sata. In theory these parts should be able to work together no problem, but the m.2 isn't showing up in the BIOS. I have tried to update drivers using a HDD I have lying around, but still no cigar. I attempted to read the manual for the x99 to best understand why I was have such difficulty and, in the expansion slot section, it shows that 28-lane cpus have access to the m.2 slot, but did not specify for 40-lane ones like the 5930k. Can someone please offer some guidance; is this configuration a lost cause, or is it possible to use my m.2 in this build, and if so how?
  4. Hi I plan on doing a 980ti 4 way sli on a ud3 x99 motherboard equipped with my 5930k. The question is, could different models of 980ti work together? I know it would, but what about the sli bridge? Thanks, SirFlamenco
  5. I have a 5930K in an MSI X99a Gaming 7. What newer chips can I get from 6 or 7 that will fit in that board?
  6. Hey guys. How does the I7 5930k hold up/compare with new CPU's. Is it time for an upgrade?
  7. Hi guys I have an Intel Core I7-5930K in a Gigabyte X99 G1 Gaming WIFI mobo running bios f20. I have my cpu overclocked to 4.5ghz at 1.3v on vcore, its stable and runs good. I was just wondering if anyone else has that cpu or from the same generation overclocked, if so what voltage and overclock have you managed to get. Im thinking of trying to push mine little bit more and got me thinking about what other people have. Thanks
  8. Hello again and sorry for repost but I screwed up the voltage info in the last post and I tough it will confuse people up after they replyed. About a week ago I decided to make a 'mild' overclock to my 5930k at 4ghz, from 3.6 on my Asus x-99s motherboard. First tried with a voltage of 1.120 than 1.115v than 1.110v (which eventually crashed after about 8 hours of stressing). Than I raised the voltage to 1.115v again and it was stable after 48 hours of stress testing. Never crashed since than so for power consumption and efficiency I decided to use the Adaptive Mode instead of Manual Mode. So I launched BIOS and set it from Manual Mode to Adaptive Mode. I set the turbo vcore to 1.115 (which I found stable within manualmode) and the offset to Auto. When I booted back to windows I launched cpu-z andHWmotinor to check that eveeything saved corectly, I noticed something strange. The max voltage was 1.140 instead of 1.115 so I tough that maybe it's like this because I didn't set an offset. Back to bios I set the offset to 0.05 so if the cpu needs more power it will go from 1.115 to a maximum of 1.120 volts. Booted back to windows..maximum voltage was 1.140 again (**please note that I never used a stress test while under adaptive mode, just light photoshop renedering and gaming**) What I am doing wrong? Why the max voltage goes to 1.140 instead of 1.115 or 1.120 with offset ( as I set them in the BIOS)? I really need some.help on this because I feel like i'm doing something wrong and I can't figure out what Thanks!

  10. Hi guys, Had a raid 0 set-up on two 1TB ssd's that failed because one drive somehow disassociated itself with the other drive and couldn't get them to collaborate like youtubers seem to be doing nowadays. (E N G L A N D I S M Y C I T Y) Anyway I have a i7-5930k on an Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard with 2 1080Ti's in SLI and, would adding an m.2 ssd mess with the dual x16 lanes that the gpu's get? UPDATE: Got the drive and installed it, M.2 ssd running at x4 and both gpu's running at 16x Asus's Vertical mount is so peculiar imo
  11. Hello you beautiful people Back again with a puzzle So I decided to overclock my 5930k way past the point of 4.5ghz to now 4.9ghz @2.10 volts and I am now in shock as my temps never go higher then 65*C on full load and stable with tests for 2 hours in each bench/stress tests and starting to think does this CPU even heat up?? And also I have the ring at 3500mhz Has anybody else been lucky to get the x99 platform with overclocks to 5ghz just on water and low temps and should I see how far this thing will go without nitrogen and this cpu as not been delided ?
  12. Hello fellow techies, I'm interested in buying a quad memory module set of Corsair Dominator 2666MHz (CMD64GX4M4A2666C15) which is a 4 * 16GB set. I was wondering if anybody knows, or where else I can look to check if this memory kit is compatible with my mother board and CPU (Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5 rev 1.0 and an Intel i7 5930K Haswell-E). Any thoughts ?
  13. Hey there, for years now my machine killed my nerves. My PC freezed so many times. I looked up on google a thousand times what could be the issue. Gaming worked for many hours without a problem. But working with Photoshop or surfing with chrome OR EVEN just being in the explorer made the machine freeze. I reinstalled windows like ten times. Now I think I finally found the issue. Im using an Intel i7-5930K with 2x4GB DDR4 2400MHz memory. On Intels website they say that the CPU supports only up to 2133MHz RAM. So I went into the BIOS and set the maximum RAM speed to 2133MHz AND increased the RAM voltage from 1.2V to 1.35V. Now everything runs stable so far. I didnt get any problems until then. So far so good. My question is: Is it possible that that was an REAL ISSUE? I heared that you can use faster RAM without any problems. What do you think. Did increasing the voltage solve the problem or limiting the max speed? Is it okay to set the voltage to 1.35V ? ASRock x99 Killer GTX 970 i7 5930K 2x4GB DDR4 2400MHz 550W PSU 2x 128GB SSD SanDisk Ultra Plus
  14. I was wondering if anyone with this particular combo could help me out with the voltage settings a little bit? I've been running 4.2 turbo with auto voltage + XMP for a while, 4.4GHz without XMP seems to run fine but will BSOD very rarely because I have never been able to get my head around the settings in the BIOS properly. Can I just add an offset to the auto voltage already running or am I going to have to start tweaking memory and whatever else in order to progress? Totally different to overclocking the pants off my 3570K lol. Cheers
  15. I have a 5820k six core Haswell-E CPU that I want to push to the limits while allowing it to be stable enough to be practical in everyday use and gaming. I use an ASRock X99 Professional Gaming i7 motherboard, which I consider to be a pretty good mid tier board for overclocking. As of now, I am running a somewhat unorthodox overclock setting where I use per core as opposed to all core overclocking with adaptive voltage as opposed to override voltage with L1 LLC at 1.42v core, 1.3v cache, and 2.15v input. I have it set up so that only one active core can go up to 4.7 GHz while 5 active cores can go up to 4.6 GHz and 6 active cores to 4.5 GHz, as I discovered that pushing all cores to its limits is somewhat impractical for the use case I have. System agent offset is also around +0.3, any lower and some of my RAM will disappear from my system. My CPU is currently being cooled by a 360mm all in one and the fans are set to max out at 80C, which is actually a fail safe that ASRock put in my particular board that can be adjusted but not disabled, so overheating is not really a concern. However, I still don’t want to go ham on the voltages and potentially fry my CPU just from turning it on, so what is a borderline suicide overclock voltage that you would recommend before it is considered kissing my silicon goodbye? I definitely don’t want to go above 1.45v on core or 2.2v on input unless I know it is safe. At 3.5 GHz cache, what is a reasonable voltage to run it at? I think 1.3v is a tad overkill and I can potentially make more headroom by turning cache voltage down. It was what ASRock set it to in its overclock presets. >inb4 people say 1.35v is max safe voltage also I am increasing voltage as opposed to lowering clock speeds because I’m too stubborn to settle for less speed. my system spat out a clock watchdog timeout when I played rainbow six siege so maybe I should lower clocks... afaik when you get whea uncorrectable error is when you have too low voltages for a particular clock speed, but I only got that once, before I bumped up voltages. is this a lost cause? also mods, where do I post for overclocking tips?
  16. Hello! I have a quick question about the hexa-core and up i7s intel offers. I'm a new content creator and gamer trying to get into a youtube "carrer". It's just something i've always wanted to do because I find it fun, but I don't really plan on making MONEY off of it as it's not a necessity for me. I game, record my gameplay, use a browser at the same time, so I decided to look into an enthusiast grade CPU because I know that the 6700k isin't really for that. My question is, is it worth it to go for the 5960X, 6900k, or 6950X for what I'm trying to do? So far I have bought: 2 x GTX 1080s 64GB 3200 MHz RAM 1000W Corsair PSU (I have lots of fittings and hardline tubing, you know where I am going with this) Thanks!
  17. Hi everyone, I can't can't get my 5930K to be stable in RealBench. System specs are as follows (brand new build, everything is updated): Rampage V Extreme Intel i7 5930K Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 64GB GTX1070 x2 I've tried 4.5Ghz down to 4.2Ghz at 1.3V (I don't want to go higher than 1.3, I'll go 1.31 if I have to for stability). ive run multiple stress tests in RealBench, and only got it to pass one time at 4.2Ghz at 1.30V, didn't ever get it to pass a second time. Ive been reading reviews online, people are able to hit 4.5Ghz sometimes at less than 1.3, and easily 4.2 at less than that. Should I continue to decrease the clock and see where I can pass a stress test at 1.3V? What's the nex step I should take? If it helps, my stress tests failed within 5 minutes at 4.3, 4.4, and 4.5 Ghz. I passed one 15 test at 4.2Ghz, then failed the second and third test at around 9 minutes consistently. 1.30V was used at each of these settings except I tried 1.31V at 4.5 and 4.4Ghz

  19. My plan is pretty simple: A complete rebuild of the waterloop while migrating to a Thermaltake Core P5, using hardline PETG with almost all new parts (original build here). There will be no LED lights, no colours or coloured water, just black and chrome and, nickle... and some copper.... The actual PC components: CPU: Core i7 5930K MOBO: Asus X99 Deluxe RAM/dimmdrive: 80gb (4*8 +4*16) Corsair Vengeance 2666Mhz GPU: Asus GTX 980 reference (waiting for the TItan XP to magically appear) OS Disk: 2x 240gb Intel 535 (RAID1) Game Disk: 2x 400gb Intel 750 PCIe NVMe (RAID0) PSU: Corsair HX1050 And, to hold it all together Thermaltake Core P5 GPU: EK FC980 (carried over from current build) Motherboard: EK FB ASUS X99 mono block Storage: 2x EK I750 Res: EK X3 400 Tubing: PETG Fittings: A boatload of EK fittings Pump: Laing D5 (still going strong) w/ EK pump top Radiator: 360mm XSPC + 120mm Swiftech (both from the last build) Fans: 4x Corsair ML120 I am waiting on a few more parts to come in and will hopefully be able to put it together this weekend. But, I fear the PCIe 4x extension cables for the 750s' may even take a couple weeks to arrive from China but hopefully not. Maybe by then I will find a camera to do a proper video log... will post if I do In the meantime I am amusing myself with Sketchup: *The render below uses models for many parts I am not using, it is just a way for me to get an idea of how to run the line.
  20. So I have been debating my new build for a while, back and forth with the pros and cons of both. Here's where I am currently at and what I want to know is what is some of the opinions of other users: Current Build: z87 Sabertooth TUF i7 3770K overclocked to 4.9ghz at 39 on idle max 70 under heavy load using GTS V8 Cooler Master Cooler 32GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance 2133mhz Corsair CXM850 Power Supply HAF-X Case EVGA 970 SSC 2.0+ clocked at 1314mhz boosts up to 1470mhz Seagate SSHD Hybrid Drive 1TB with 32GB SSD Cache Next Build: Either X99 Sabertooth or Z170 Sabertooth i7 5930K Haswell-E or i7 6700K Skylake 32 GB Corsair Dominator 3100 mhz (RAM Clock speed I am still debating as the improvements don't seem much for a 200+ price difference) Corsair RM1200 (might be RX) modular Genome Full Tower Green and Black Case with built in helix and water cooling block EVGA GTX 1080 Classified m.2 SSD 950 PRO 512GB 2TB SSD (unsure of what I am picking at this point) So here's what I have surmised: X99 Sabertooth Z170 Sabertooth Quad Channel Memory Dual Channel Memory Extra OC pins on CPU Socket Smaller CPU Architecture allows for less heat and TDP allowing for higher overclock SATA Express Ports SATA Express Ports? (not sure didn't see any) Better motherboard cooling with heatsinks Still uses heatsinks separate from fans for motherboard cooling Processors: 5930K 6700K More heat and less efficiency Highly efficient and less heat More Cores Better Single Core Functions (for games is better as most games don't utilize multi-core tech yet) New socket pins allow for better OC High overclocks but lacking multi core power Quad Channel Memory is the future Still using dual channel Better for strategy games and work Better for FPS and other games that are less CPU intensive So the question is this: I am a straight forward user and enthusiast. I built my computer about 2 years ago (it took about 1 year to build), and have been saving up for this build for a while. My computer has been around the world with me (Africa, Afghanistan, a couple other places) where the AC wasn't great or at time non existent, but still it ran great and everytime I came back to the states I had to disassemble it and give it a good cleaning (Afghani dust smells the worst). I love my Sabertooth boards because they are decent to good at OC and they survive heat, cold, all kinds of issues that would have busted other motherboards. I love the heat shields, thermal armor and TUF armor on the bottom protecting it (on one move it actually saved my board when a crate smashed my old case and the TUF armor kept it from touching the board, after which I promptly switched to a metal tower made by Cooler Master and never again will buy a case with plastic side panels). And I game on my off time and like to crank up the settings, stream my games, write code and do some animation stuff. So compiling is key as well as game playbility. ASUS backs their TUF stuff 5 years and I am giving my old rig to my younger brother because he is about to start college. I hate to build computers that will not be usable 5 years down the road, minus graphics card upgrades. So which one is better? Which one will get more power? Which one should I go with and why do you think so? and lastly do you think Skylake-E will eliminate all the disadvantages of a hexacore processor has in Broadwell-E and is it better to wait for that?
  21. Everyone, this thread was created for anyone concerned about potential bottlenecks between components. Post any processor, ram, motherboard, video card combo and let's discuss optimal, NOT compatible! For instance, I don't care what motherboards my processor, ram, gpu is compatible with if the full potential of these components are not available through this motherboard. Why drop serious coin on one component if this component is fractionalized or bottlenecked by another component. The inspiration for this thread is inspired by the below...which i still don't have good any motherboard choices. Any other bottleneck concerns are welcome in this thread. Original question: best motherboard for 5930k? I was looking at pulling the trigger on MSI x99 sli Krait board. to match up with i7 5930k processor. Now this got me thinking that I don't want to create a bottleneck. Just because a board is compatible doesn't mean it's optimal...correct? I don't need a lot of extras I just want to maximize the 5930k processor and also want to be compatible if i decide to upgrade to 5960x later...but i'm on a budget now. Are there any more affordable boards that won't create the bottleneck your referring to above and are still excellent boards?. Thanks!!!!!

    HELP!

Hello! I built my first PC about 2 moths ago and the first time I used 3DMark Firestrike Extreme I got a 14000. Lately, my GPU has gotten about 4 Celsius hotter. I have the NZXT fan contoller and it's been hovering at about 24-25ºC and now it's been hovering at around 27-29ºC ideal. Then I noticed it's a little slower, I did the Firestrike again and I got a 2000... WTF? I updated all the drivers and the BIOS, then I got a 4000 on Firestrike. Still, WTF? I replaced my SSD with an identical one with no OS I had laying arround from an old RAID I used to have. I installed Windows 10, all the drivers and I got a 5000 on Firestrike... I replaced the SSD once again to my old one and I tried booting into it. I was able to get onto my desktop, I opened my browser looking for a solution, as soon as I clicked on a link, it freezed, slowly went into a blue screen and slowly displaying the error. The error stopped loading at "Your PC went into a problem, we'll just re" There it stopped. I tried booting it up again and the same thing happend but this time, the error name loaded: "WHEA_Uncorrectable_error" --> Windows has encountered an uncorrectable error... Now, it just doesn't boot at all... The fans spin, my keyboard lights up but the screen does not display anything... Please help, I use my computer a lot for work and very important things... Please help! Thanks My specs are: CPU: 5930k (Non-OC) GPU: PNY 980ti (Non-OC) Motherboard: MSI Krait Edition SLI Ready (x99 chipset, duh) RAM: 64GB DDR4 Ballistix 2400 Mhz (Non-OC) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO M.2 (and a 2tb 5400rpm Samsung drive, did not use with the replacement SSD) PSU: EVGA 750G1 Thanks again, I love you guys
  23. I'm sorry, I know I've posted this before, but just before the GTX 1080's came out. Will a Corsair AX860i be enough for two GTX 1080's and a 5930k, all three overclocked to their limit. I will also have a custom water cooling loop and 4 SSD's. I just want to be sure before I buy the power supply during the memorial day sale for Corsair.
  24. I'm trying to overclock an 5930K on an X99 sabertooth, at 4.5Ghz@1.3V, temperatures are fine if I only run the CPU stress test, around 80ish. However, if i add in FPU stress test, the temperatures rises up to 100. Any ideas? Also, I've been able to obtain an stable overclock at 4.4Ghz with auto voltages. Stress test voltages are around 80 with voltage around 1.277V When doing an stress test, It says that my voltages are around 1.07V, if I manually set the CPU voltage to 1.1V, the system would not boot at all. Any help would be appreciated
