As the title states one of my 4TB drives only registers 2TB and I have no clue why. I have already tried to reformat it and change it from MBR to GPT but none of these things seems to solve the problem. I'll post a picture of the drive label and the information on the drive given to my by Seatools, the same information and results were given by CrystalDiskInfo. Any help finding out what is going wrong here is greatly appreciated.

Hi!!! I own a Ps4 Pro (1TB), which I bought in November 2019. I now have no free-space to add new games. I purchase approximately 6-7 games each year. Main question here is that , is HDD Write speed important for gaming ? I have just now purchased an seagate expansion 4TB external hard disk (ST4000DM004 drive) and on running the HDD trough crystal bench I was able to see bizarre results. The drive was having around 180MBPS read speed but the sequential Writes were merely just 37 MBPS !!!! I know that this drive has SMR (Shingled magnetic Recording) but is it this worse . I am only going to use this drive as an extended storage in my PS4, so will it be fine for my usage .

There is a pretty significant price difference and I would definitely go for the cheaper one, but wasn't sure if there's a reason it's less or more expensive.

I do a lot of file compression like 7-zip and winrar. I'm looking at a 4TB SSD for my needs. I see for my budget I can go with a higher-end TLC SSD like the SAMSUNG EVO 870 or maybe a cheaper NVME QLC like Inland or Teamgroup, etc. Unfortunately I haven't really seen benchmarks for 7-zip compression when it comes to comparisons between the two and was wondering if anybody does even remotely the same sort of transfer/write/compression heavy stuff I would be doing and has had experience with a QLC NVME drive. I'm just trying to decide if, despite it being QLC, it being NVME would still prove it a better purchase than even a good SATA SSD. Thank you for any help! It is greatly appreciate!

I'm looking to get a 4tb dirve as storage and was set on the 870 evo but found out there are lots of issues and now I'm on the fence... what of these would you preffer? hello, i have a 4tb raid 0 on my main system, but randomly one drive just gone away from the raid and now it is just a normal drive. can i revert it back? if yes how. ps my motherboard was reset before this happened

Hello there. So a few months back I got this server, an Intel 1600URHSR from eBay, with plans to build a machine that would double as a decent render box for Adobe Media Encoder and a NAS for mass storage of video files. I came here looking for help because I couldn't get Windows Server 2008 R2 installed on any machine with that motherboard (Intel S5520UR); I ended up getting a different Server 2008 R2 disk from someone working in IT and it worked for me. So now I had my server up and running, and I was quite happy and satisfied with the render speed. I added in a Quadro K2000 (only room for single slot in there!) and proceeded to work on the NAS part of the project. The server has 3 hot-swap HDD bays that connect to a SAS backplane. It came with 3 80GB SATA drives and I used those for my testing. I wanted to set it up so that it would have a system drive with OS and software and then a RAID 1 with the other 2 drives for storage and working over the network. All the testing went fine, I switched the backplane to Intel ESRTII in the BIOS, figured out the configuration and everything, it worked great. Tested removing, wiping and rebuilding drives, all good. So I went and decided it was time to buy and install some proper HDDs. I got myself a 2TB WD RED for the OS and two 4TB WD REDs for the RAID1. Today I was installing the whole thing, until I tried to configure the RAID in ESRTII and I noticed that... the 4TB drives only get detected as 2TB drives! So apparently my quest of setting up this stupid thing is far from over. I went on Intel's website and made sure everything was updated: BIOS, firmware, chipset, backplane firmware, SAS RAID controller and all that, everything I could find from Intel's page and install from EFI Shell. Still, my drives are only showing up as 2TB. I read somewhere something about drives larger than 2TB and compatibility problems with old stuff. I can't seem to find a solution. The server has a date on the inside, it was build in December 2009. I guess it is kinda old, but I figured that with drivers from 2014 it really shouldn't have this kind of problem..? Anyone know anything more about this? Possible solutions..? Is there ANYTHING at all I can do to make this server work with 4TB drives..? Or have I just wasted 300$ in drives I can't use?

I was looking to buy some USB enclosures/hard drives. I need at least 4tb. I was looking at WD MyBook enclosures, the duo and solo drive models. Hi everyone, probably time I should have made this topic but it wasn't at the top of my list. I have a 4TB Seagate external hard drive. I lost the power adapter and did something really stupid. I was scrambling to find a power adapter and completely disregarded the voltage that had to go into these things. So I grabbed my laptop charger and plugged it into the external hard drive, and then plugged it into the wall. You can guess what happened next. I've been able to break the hard drive out of its enclosure, and was able to remove the adapter for the rear IO and expose the original SATA power / data. I'm not sure why I didn't think of just doing that first. My question is this: Would it work if I bought a cheaper hard drive and take the data controller or board that has the sata data / power connectors, and try swapping them out, or am I just an absolute klutz that should just shell out the money and buy a new external hard drive and keep better track of where my power adapters go? You guys haven't failed me once, so I'm hoping for some good advice... Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I'm planning on buying a new 4TB HDD for storage purposes. But I'm torn between choices: Seagate Barracuda, WD Blue, or ramp up the money a bit and go for a HGST DeskStar NAS as my drive will be used mainly for torrenting, so it will be up and running almost 24/7. Hi I guys I'm in the market currently deciding on what portable hard disk should I get 2tb, 3tb or 4tb. I had wd my passport 1tb that lasted me about 5 6 years before getting dead and taking data with it.Though, I have that data but still it lasted me quite long. At that time I used to download lots of movies and games but now its different. I'm sure 1tb is not enough for me for sure. I need atleast 2tb, but need your suggestions wheater to bump it to 3tb or 4th or keep it at 2tb. The following is what I'm considering to get. I live on a canal boat and I would like to build a file server that works with only USB ports. I would like to try and make it wireless. I was thinking to buy a WD My Passport 4TB and then buy a Rapsberry PI and connect the Hard Drive and download the needed software. I just cannot figure out how to make it wireless. What software should I need to access the files on iOS, Chrome OS, Windows and Linux?

As the title says, I am looking for an hdd recommendation. What I want mostly is 4tb of space to keep most of my games on and everything else like music, movies, etc, maybe 5 or 6tb if it stays within the price range. Would like it to have 256mb cache on it for my games, from what I understand it doesnt really affect gaming performance but rather load times, which is why i would like that much cache. 128mb cache will also be fine if 256mb makes it too expensive. Speaking of price, I am willing to spend around $150 on the drive. Also just to throw this out there, please do not suggest the wd black 4tb with 256mb cache, that drive is terrible, I went through 4 drives in a little over 1 month and they were all DOA, in order to make it usable, i had to unplug the sata power cable and plug it back in the drive for it to turn on properly every time i booted my pc. I have tried many things to fix it and tested everything just about, nothing works so no thanks on that one, dont think i can use another WD drive after that hellish experience. Im not too fond of seagate either since I had a couple of their external drives and both died inside of a year which wasnt pleasant. I dont know how reliable their drives are now but if they have improved since then, which was about 8 or so years ago btw, then i may give them another chance. Apologies for the rant there but if anyone has any recommendations, it would be most appreciated, thank you. edit:Just a note, in case you ask why not get an ssd if i want performance, I am already using an m.2 NVMe 1tb addlink s70, and i do have games installed that I want to have performance on. It's been very nice so far and no complaints.

Based off your vlog of a FAST 12TB HDD, I have another challenge for you. We've been given a project of building a storage array of 4TB capable of RW around 2.5 to 3.5 GB per second, as cheap as possible. So if you could almost double the RW speeds of a spinning disk using a optane SSD what would it be capable of when using it with cheaper SSDs with about 540MB RW and even when trying to use it in a RAID 0.

Hi, I am going to build a new pc with around 2500$ budget and I am getting a 4tb hdd WD blue and 500gb ssd. My plan is to use the ssd for os + multiplayer games and the hdd for singleplayers games. So is it necessary for me to partition my 4 tb hdd?

Hi Guys. ive been running Unraid for a couple of years on my Zotac motherboard, with a mix of 1.5 and 2TB disks, ofcause with a lovely 2TB disk as parity. Anyhow, im in the unfortunate situation that a 2TB ST2000DM001 has died, and im now on the lookout for a replacement. Since the prices of 2TB disks dont really make sense, ive been considering starting to grow my array over time with 4 or 6TB disks (im at 10TB used and growing... video Library... yaaay), but i am unsure if my motherboard supports disks larger than 2 TB. Anyone have any insights to the wierdness that is an Atom Based NM10 chipset running on a DTX board :-)

Hi I'm facing one iffy hdd, a seagate 4TB HDD GPT formated to a single NTFS that became RAW while copying some files from a dieing desktop 500 WD black in external dock connected to a USB3. I used multible programs such as 'R-Studio' and 'GetDataBack simple' both after scaning the RAW drive wrongly reported over 10 parttions with different typs FAT12 FAT32 NTFS even linux partions and wrong size 1.6 something TB
