I've been troubleshooting another larger problem with my system but something I've changed (or maybe coincidence) has profoundly affected my overall pc (cpu) performance. I have an i7 4770. Not the fastest, I know. But it can still handle most of my applications simultaneously without breaking a sweat. 200 tabs in Chrome, will be a lot of ram but might only be 30% use. Idling, it should be under 10% use. The past day, merely idling has been over 50% use, and something as strenuous as opening windows search takes it to 100%. Furthermore, normal proceses are behaving exceptionally sluggishly - moving the mouse across screen is jumpy; almost all commands and hotkeys take a moment; video playback is choppy with fragmented audio. Overall, it's behaving like a windows xp machine with a hard drive. This is not normal performance! It's not like there's a virus sucking up all my performance. It's like normally simple tasks are suddenly a tremendous burdon on the CPU. Using task manager to force quit java used 10% cpu temporarily. Changing desktop backgrounds used 20%. Runtime broker is now idling at 10-15%. These processes should be a fraction of a percent. Other processes that would normally be insignificant are instead using a % each which is how idling can get up to 50-80% use. see screenshot of task manager for demo. The troubleshooting I had done for my other problem was to run chkdsk on the c drive, and to run memtest off a usb. I went into bios a couple times while switching boot priority, but I don't think I changed anything. Resource Manager shows all 8 threads running away.... at close to 100% work. I don't think it's to do with a disabled core. Software doesn't recognise anything is wrong. System has been restarted several times. Any tips would be very much appreciated.

Someone on ebay says that i can get an i7 4770 off them for 150 GBP. Is it worth it?

How are the temps for the stock cooler with an i7 4770. I was thinking of getting an evo 212 for the one i ordered.

I recently bought an used 4770. In my motherboard bios (MSI B85M-G43) it says, that cpu ratio status is unlocked. Should I consider buying Z97 chipset motherboard?

1. Budget & Location My budget is dependant on the answer, and in $NZD 2. Aim My aim is to speed up my computer in games. Games being broad as I play a wide range e.g. Wildlands, PubG, Assetto Corsa, Battlefield, NFS, Overwatch, Dying Light so a good mix of GPU speed and texture storage is needed At the moment it is as fast as I need for things like coding and photoshop but is starting to get a tad slow in some of the newer games. 3. Monitors I currently have 2x 1920x1080p 60hz and 1x 1440x900 60hz (but I am thinking of upgrading the smaller one to a 120/144hz curved screen at maybe 2k res that I will use as my main solo gaming monitor) I normally just game on one screen except for Assetto Corsa as driving sims are so much better with tri screen 4. Peripherals none 5. Why are you upgrading? I am starting to no longer be able to run games at 60 fps solid at high settings anymore and I'm wanting to upgrade to a 120/144hz monitor but don't want to have to lower the quality so I'm gonna need to upgrade my graphics card. The only problem is I don't know if the rest of my PC will hold the new graphics card back and if ill need to fit that into my budget as ill either be able to afford a 1080 with nothing else or a 1070 plus the other stuff. Current Specs cpu: Intel i7 4770 (non k yes i know I was stupid back when I got it) mb: Gigabyte Z87-HD3 ram: 8gb Kingston 1600mhz (if I don't have to upgrade everything else and go to ddr4 I will probably upgrade to 16gb ddr3 as my friend will sell me some cheap) gpu: Gigabyte 970 G1 ssd: 2x hdd: 2x So basically my question is will I be able to get away with putting a 1080 in my system or will either my motherboard / CPU hold back its full potential

Hello guys, I have a question and I hope you can help me with...I mean not really a problem but a dilemma. I have a 1440p monitor and computer (i7-4770, Asus H81M-K, 8GB Corsair V, 550W PSU, 240 GB SSD) and without a GPU. The main problem is: SHOULD I GO and BUY A GTX 1060 6GB OR SPEND 100$ MORE ON A 1070 (JUST FOR THE BETTER FUTURE) OR JUST GO WITH RX 580 8GB? I read and was told from bunch of people the the radion RX cards can get a bit more hot and loud and can broke easly. I really don't want that. What are your experiences ? Your suggestions ? Thank you all for your help!

Hello. This is the first time I'm building my own pc and I would appreciate any help. 3 years ago I bought my first pre-built pc. When games started getting slower I started looking for a new gpu. I learned a lot since then about pc''s and would like to build my own. In the prebuilt pc I had a: gtx 760 2x 8gb ram i7 4770 @ 3.5ghz 1.75tb hdd 256gb ssd and a motherboard/psu I cannot find the name off. I basically want to upgrade that pc. I want to keep my i7 4770, ram, storage and put those in a new case with a new motherboard and psu. This is what I got so far and I would appreciate any suggestions. (I selected an i7 4770 and ram to see if it was compatible) http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Wbdf9W Would this be possible and is there anything you think would be better.

I have an asus z97-a mobo, with an i7 4770 which has a max of 16 pcie lanes that can be configured in 1x16 , 2x8 , 1x8+1x16 . I have a 970 and would like to get a second one for sli configuration, BUT i also have a gigabyte GC-WB867-I (a wifi, bluethooth card that is pcie based). AND a 128gb plextor m.2 SSD which is also pcie based . and the 4770 only has 16 lanes express lanes. so of i get an additional 970 , would it even work or would i just have to sacrifice my m.2 and wifi card for them to be 8x connected. Thanks for your help.

Would an I7 4770 be a good upgrade from a 4690K, i know its not a needed upgrade but would it be better and would it be worth getting one? i have a ASRock anniversary Z97 motherboard right now and it has an LGA1150 socket so it would fit my motherboard, so would it be a good upgrade in performance? thanks for any replies and any help

Is there any reason why I should pay ~$50 more for the 4770 other than iGPU that I won't use anyway?
-
Hey guys, I really need quick advice on this. Is it possible to let say force all cores to run at 3.9 on a 4790(non k) all the time instead of turbo-ing up and down as it likes? Was hoping i could turn off the turbo boost and set its max multiplier. im using a z97 gigabyte board. thanks.

So, I am gaming with an i7 - 4770, a cpu which is not supposed to be overclockable. It does however have a turbo clock, and that brings it up to 3.9 GHz from the regular 3.4GHz it normally employs as a maximum speed. However, lately it is always clocking at about 3.74 - 3.85 GHz without me having changed anything. This behavior is unusual, as before, the processor was usually around 2.6GHz when all I was doing was browsing the web, or staring at my desktop background. Strangely enough, when viewed in the task manager, it shows the cpu as running fairly low on the graph. Did I somehow manage to unlock my CPU? The only change I made recent to noticing this phenomenon is that I now I have an additional HDD in my computer aside from only my SSD.

Hi people! Here are my specs: Intel i7 4770 3.4GHz Gigabyte H87-HD3 Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz EVGA NVIDIA GTX970 SC Corsair TX550M Using HWinfo64 I noticed that my CPU clock spikes from in semi regular patterns even in complete idle and I want to know if its normal or a problem. If its a problem, can it be the cause for two BSOD and 3 random resets that happened today? And how could I solve it? Nevermind the title of the graph, I just noticed that I wrote GPU instead of CPU, but its the one under the CPU Header. Each grid rectangle on the green graph represents is 10 seconds.

Hello, Now I have a question (might be a silly one) but I am wondering if there is a major difference between the i7 4770 and say an i7 6XXX series? I mean is there any reason to upgrade as I had always though that i7 4770 is still standing strong and was going to either hold out for the i7 7XXX/8XXX series and see what those bring but with the i7 6XXX series dropping into a new 14nm fab process it could provide a nice efficiency and power boost (yes I bought a non k cpu for the 4k series....). I am only asking since I would have to get a new Mobo and DDR4 + a new cooler unless the cooling socket is the same as the 1150?+
-
hey guys, so i have a recent 4770 without k, and i am running it with the stock cooler right now. The temp doesn't go above 75 degrees (celsius) in the intel extreme tuning's stress tests. do i need to buy another cooler. And the other thing is, i am using onboard graphics intel HD 4600 right now, but i want to buy a gpu. i can't decide between msi r9 280 or asus 760 one, which one do you guys suggest? Or any other gpu suggestions within the approximate price tag? appreciated edit: btw i have msi h81m-p33 mobo if that changes anything

First time Building a Gaming PC I'm fairly new to building computers. I have helped my friend build his computer a couple months back and I have read up on the topic alot though. I decided to start my own build, and before I order anything, I wanted to get more opinions on the parts I have selected. If there are any compatibility issues, etc. The site I'm using shows compatibility issues, but you can never be too sure. I plan on taking this to College and keeping this for quite a while, upgrading what I can as I get older. To tell you a little more on what this computer is for, it's mainly for me to run Video Games, Livestream, school stuff (ew -.-), and do a little bit of Video Editing. I play alot of Open World games such as MMORPS, and the usual mainstream games such as CSGO, League, or Dark Souls II SOTFS. Since I don't have a Ethernet port nearby, I will have to have on-board Wi-Fi, or have an external device. This is mainly why I chose the ASUS Z87-Pro since it has a wireless feature. I don't really want the price to exceed $1,800. The current price is listed on my PCPartPicker link that is linked with the title. MyPCPartPicker List: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rRy4TW My Build: CPU • Intel Core i7-4770 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor Motherboard • Asus Z87-Pro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard • (I don't if I should spend a little extra money to get the Z87 Satbertooth... is there actually a difference in performance for Video games, rendering videos, or Livestreaming? I would also have to buy a external Wi-Fi device, since it will not have the wireless capabilities of the Asus Z87-Pro) • (Should I pay alot more to get the Z97 chipset series? If so, which one is the best bang for your buck motherboard?) Memory • G.Skill Sniper Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory Storage • Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (For OS and important stuff) • Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card • EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card Case • Cooler Master Storm Stryker (White) ATX Full Tower Case Power Supply • Corsair 760W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Operating System (Not really worried about this) • Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Some things I really want in the build (Unless other opinions arise): • The Case - It has a sturdy handle since I will be taking the PC to college and back etc. It seems like it is a fairly good case overall and it had great feedback from my friends, sooo yea. • The GPU - I mean, who doesn't want sick high-end graphics. I want this build to be fairly Forward-Compatible, so I don't want parts that will probably be outdated in like a year. I was trying to create a build that I will be able to upgrade when I have the money/time for it. I also have a couple of questions: • If the Motherboard isn't that High End, such as the Z87, and it is matched with the i7-4770 or GTX 980, will the Motherboard hinder the CPU and GPU components to the point that they won't be worth their costs? • Since I don't plan on overclocking, I didn't get a CPU cooler. Is this alright? I just plan to rotate the HDD intake fans on the case so those push air into the tower, other than the just the top mounted case fan. • I have an SSD and a HDD. I would have to plug them into two completely different SATA connectors on my motherboard, and I WILL NOT setup a RAID configuration, correct? It will just should up under "My Computer" as two different Hard Drives right? When building the computer, I will just have to plug my HDD out, install windows, and then plug the HDD back in after shutdown, correct? Hopefully I won't have anymore questions later! Thank everyone who will/is helping me with this build! Kazushi

Hi guys, I have an i7 4770k, cooled by CM Hyper 212 EVO... I think ive found a stable oc for those frequencies: 4.0 stock voltage 4.1 1.248v 4.2 1.312v 4.3 1.376v (stability not verified yet) Are these voltages good or bad ones? Ive reached 76°C at 4.1Ghz and 88°C at 4.2... Is a good thing? Greetings, EMENCII
-
Hi guys, i have some questions to ask... My 4770k ocs really bad, we are talking of 4.2Ghz 1.3v+... So i decided to set the multiplier at 41 and the BCLK to 101.9Mhz... So the ram goes up to 1630Mhz, and i set the latency to 9-9-9-24 (Corsair Veng 1600Mhz CL9). 1) Is a good thing to oc the BCLK? 2) Is ocing the ram worth it? (more than what i just did) 3) i've set the voltage on 1.31 in the BIOS, but AIDA64 makes it go up to 1.4... Will the voltage go up with other programs? 4) I cool it with an Hyper 212 EVO, and i got 95°C while stress testing, just in the first 2 mins... Should I clock it down? 5) If i sell the mobo and the cpu for z77 and 3770k, should it oc better, so better performance? Is worth it? Or z97? I use my pc also for video editing, so i was wondering on the oc on the ram for that... Thanks for ur attenction, EMENCII

I was thinking of making a build with the hadron air or the arc mini r2. What would you guys recommend, MATX or ITX (I will be going to university and going to and from my home (400 miles away) during christmas and summer). What are the downsides of having an ITX build? In the build - i7 4770, gtx 770, 16gb corsair vengeance, 240gb corsair SSD. Not sure whether I should go ITX or MATX. (P.s. I will not be using SLI.) Thanks, Blueprint

What do you think so far? I was thinking about upgrading as I'll be doing my first ever build (with an i7 4770 and 32gb ram) but it seems like their isn't much of a benefit of going with z97. What is the major benefit for having a Z97 board vs a Z87 board? Here's a link to them if you haven't seen them yet : http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/motherboards-intel/socket-1150-intel-z97-motherboards Thanks, Blueprint

Well it's a xeon, a quad core Haswell processor with hyper-threading enabled, clocked at 3.3 so only 100mhz slower than the 4770, but it's 40$ cheaper. http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Chip-Processor-3-3-BX80646E31230V3/dp/B00D697PEG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376231970&sr=8-1&keywords=xeon+lga+1150+e-1230v3 Why get a 4770 ?
