Hi All, I have a 4690k 4.6GHz that is getting a bit old and in some games holding back my 1080ti. I have gone through various benchmark sites and while the 13500t does score a higher cpu score, does it relate much to fps increase at 2k resolution? Games like battlefield 2042 are unplayable with spikey 30fps in current setup. I can get the 13500t for almost free from an old workstation but would still need to buy a new mobo and RAM. Any opinions will be much appreciated.

Hello, I would like to buy a new DDR3 RAM (have one piece 8GB Goodram 1600 Mhz on MSI Z97 Gaming 3 + cpu 4690K) and would like to get you recommendation on which RAM should I choose for my hardware: I'm interested in 2x 8GB but not sure to choose 2133 or 2400 Mhz (if it makes sense to take 2400 at all)? Thanks in advance for advices!

Yo everybody. I built my pc in 2015 and the setup is the following: CPU: i5 4690k w/ CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO MB: Asus Sabertooth z97 mk2 RAM: 2x 8gb 1600mhz DDR3 GPU: Asus Strix GTX980 4GB DDR5 I think this is the most important, my MB / RAM (ddr3) is outdated i guess. I pretty much only use PC for gaming, the game is play the most is CS:GO/ GTA V ,although i stopped playing new games because i fear the pc is not going to run smooth. So, can you guys advice me in which hardware I should switch? If so which models you recommend. Thank you for your time , Thanks in advance. Wilson.

On both my college and home desktop task manager reports my cpu frequency 800MHz-1GHz higher that it is. Both machines are running on a 4690K on an msi pc mate motherboard. On my college rig it was OCed to 4.1GHz and task manger reported 4.8GHz, while my home rig is OCed to 4.3GHZ but is reported as 5.3GHz. all other hardware monitoring software reports the correct frequency. I was just wondering if this was happening to anyone else.

Hey everyone! I am planning on overclocking my CPU and GPU the next time my schedule frees up. I have an intel i5-4690K and an EVGA 960 SSC 2GB. If I were to overclock both of these, how would I go about doing so, and what results would I most likely get? I have a Z-97A Asus motherboard, EVGA 650 Gold 80+, a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler, and a 2x4GB @ 1866MHz. Hopefully I did not miss any major parts. Thanks much in advance.

I'm having an issue whenever I overclock my i5-4690k to any frequency other than stock. I've had Prime95 run for almost an entire day without issue on a 4.5 ghz overclock at 1.3v, so I assumed this was a safe overclock. After a few start ups of Windows 10, it eventually resets to the stock frequency. Other options are reset in the BIOS as well, like my boot order for example. What do I do here? My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3

I originally posted this on the official Intel forum, but since LLT community is much more active and helpful i copied the post over here. I hope thats okay Hey everyone, I have a problem with my PC constantly crashing when i try to game on it. Everything is going normal, but when i try to game it crashes after 5 to 30 minutes. (seemingly random time) I get a blackscreen or the screen simply freezes and a loud buzzing sound. Recently the crashes also occured while just browsing. (though rarely) The Games that always trigger that are for me: GTA5, Skyrim, DARK, CoJ: Gunslinger and CS:GO. (The Games run just fine at 60+ FPS before crashing) So far have tried reinstalling drivers (also DDU them), completetly reinstall windows clean, trying different XMP and non-XMP Profiles (some with lower speed on the RAM) Furmark, AIDA64 GPU Stress Test, Heaven and Valley all ran without crashing and gave respectable results. AIDA64 Stresstest crashed either when stressing CPU+RAM over longer time, or when stressing CPU+Cache. (CPU alone was fine) Intel Processer Diagnostic Tools Test was passed sucessfully though. (I should add that i also never overclocked the CPU, only used Turbo Mode) This is my Rig: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Venoxx/saved/tC8WGX I would be most thankfull if you could help me with this problem, as it makes gaming almost impossible, which is why i build this PC in the first place. Thank you in advance

Thanks in advance! I build my computer 2 and 1/2 years ago, it has an i5-4690k, GTX 970 G1 Gaming, 16 ddr3 RAM, a ssd, hdd, some expensive motherboard, blah blah blah. I originally started with 1-1080p monitor, but about 1 year ago, I upgraded and added a second 1440p monitor. For the past few months, I have noticed my frame rates dropping slowly, due to game updates or whatever else. I have always been careful with my computer, cleaning it out, and making sure the temperatures were well below the max. But recently in a couple of games I have noticed that I have been getting very bad frame rates. Such as low 20's on medium settings. Both my CPU and GPU usages have been around 50% in these cases, no thermal throttling, nothing. (By the way I have an aftermarket cooler on my CPU, not the crap one that Intel ships with) Lately I have been debating whether I need to upgrade my CPU or GPU, but have always convinced myself not to due to the fact of the usages being really low. (Hard drive, Ram, and all other usages have also been low) One thing that was interesting, but weird, was that My GPU clock speeds were over the rated OC speeds on the store page, but the usages have been at 50-60% (Ex. Rated for 1660Megahertz, running at 1700+ (No OC) Usage still at 50-60% but clock speeds maxed???????????) This is really confusing to me! Please help!

I am upgrading from i5 4690k to i7 4790k. I would like to do some before and after testing (gaming only). Any suggestions on how best to compare? Games I mostly play: - Paragon - BF1 - 7 Days to Die - Unreal Tournament I was thinking of just playing a game for 30 minutes and run Fraps in the background. I would try to keep the level the same for each run, and I would do at least two runs for each data point. The problem is the FRAPS only counts average and minimum FPS - I would like more data. What do program you suggest for more data collection? I have MSI afterburner, but I don't know about it since there is no hotkey to start/stop data logging... System specs in signature.

Hi, So I need to upgrade my Ram since Im buying a new Gpu.. I want 2x8Gb but don't know if my CPU(4690K) supports 2400 ram (my mobo does) since intel page sais 1333/1600. If 2400 is really usable by the cpu i would buy this -> [[G.Skill F3-2400C10D-16GTX mem RAM DDR3 de 16GB (2400MHz, 240-pin, 2x 8GB) DDR3-RAM]] If I only can use 1600 I would buy this one -> [[G.Skill TridentX - Kit 2 mem RAM (2 x 8 GB DDR3, 1600 MHz, CL7, PC3-12800)]] my specs - 4690K - asus z97a And by the way I have 4x2Gb 1333 I would retire, is it worth upgrading to 16GB? Im getting a 980Ti

Hello everybody, Config :: CPU: i5-4690K, MB: ASUS Z97-A Here is a problem I'm experiencing that is giving me hard times : Last week my PC stopped working, couldn't even access the BIOS. According to the red led on the MB, the CPU is in cause (yes, red is bad) I have tested my power supply (with a power supply tester) and everything was fine. I "stole" my brother PC which has quite the same config (CPU: i5-4670K, MB: ASUS Z97-A) and done bellow tests 2 times : his 4670K on my MB worked perfectly my 4690K on his MB worked too (WTF ??) I put my CPU back on my MB and got a red CPU led... His BIOS revision is more outdated than mine (v. 0604 VS v.1204) I suppose I'm missing something, how can I identify the faulty component ? I will try to update the BIOS on my MB to reach latest version but I'm not convinced it will change anything If someone has an advice (or even better, a solution) I would appreciate greatly

Hi Guys. I have an itch to upgrade. I'm thinking of upgrading my three year old system an wondering if its worth it? I primarily use this for gaming. Will this be a decent upgrade? I currently have 4690k 4.4 OC, Asrock z97 extreme with 16GB 1600 G.Skill ares ram, MSI GTX 1060 gaming X 6gb. I'm looking to upgrade to R5 1600X, Asus prime B350 plus mobo and G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz DDR4. Thanks!

Hi guys, I'm kinda stuck here... I use a i5 4690k @ 4.4 Ghz with a MSI GTX 970 as my daily driver. Now, I tried 3DMark (Steam Edition) Firestrike 1.1 and it resulted in low scores, I think. My Graphics Score seems about right at 12.350 points at a 1460 Mhz core clock, but the Physics Score seems off at just 8461. After some research I found it should be at at least 9500 points. So I've been looking ito this but to no avail. The only pointers I found were Windows power profile (which is at High Performance). It doesn't throttle or anything. Anyone got an idea? I'm lost. i5 4690k @ 4.4 Ghz on 1.181 volts MSI GTX 970 @ 1460 Mhz 16 GB DDR3 @ 1600 Mhz Windows 10 Pro x64 Thanks, guys! I'd appreciate any help.

So I have a ds cube and recently bought a 1080. I'm buying an aio cooler either; ARCTIC Liquid Freezer 240 - £70 (comes with 4 fans and fits my case) Corsair H100i V2 - £95 (has the fan control usb software) Thermaltake water 3.0 RGB riing 240 - £105 (reviews say it's quieter than the corsair, has a physical fan controller rather than software) Anyone have experience with these? particularly with a ds cube case? My next question is whether to have the cooler set up to suck hot air out the top of the case and have the front and rear case fans pointing inwards or have it pushing air into the case to maintain positive pressure? air in means the 1080 gets hotter but maintains positive pressure in the case (it gets very dusty)

Hey all, So im planing on overclocking my 4690k in the next few weeks, i'm just waiting on a new power supply to arrive. I had a look over this video from Linus about it from 2014 and was just curious, he mentions bumping up the voltage if a test fails up to about a max of 1.3v. What increments should i do these voltage bumps in? Is increments of 0.05v too much? Not enough? On a related note, does ASUS' Ai Suite still pump too much voltage to the CPU with its auto overclocking feature or have they fixed it since this video aired? I already use Ai Suite for my fans. Any other tips for an overclocking noob is appreciated too Thanks

I am looking to build a rebuild my pc when i get home from deployment. I currently have a 4690k on a asus z97 pro gamer mb. I know i dont really need to upgrade the cpu yet, but my current mb is a used motherboard that i repaired (bent cpu pins). It worked for a while but now any amount of overclocking and my pc shuts down. I would just get a new motherboard but for the price of a decent z97 board, i figured id upgrade anyway. I plan on doing a ryzen build, but i dont know which series to go with(ryzen 3,5,7). Would i see any noticable differance from a 1600x or 1700x over the 4690k? I will be mainily gaming (AAA games 1440p) with some video editing and dabaling with autocad.

Hi, I'm considering delidding my 4690k to replace the intel thermal paste with that coolabratory liquid ultra stuff. I currently use a Thermaltake Water 3.0 Riing RGB 240 cooler with the thermal paste that was pre applied so may also change that. Will the overclock be worth all the hassle? what more can I expect? Attached image is current overclock running Prime95 small FFT for a few minutes.

So I've been noticing over the last several months that my CPU temps have risen a bit. Previously I was using a H105. After a huge fiasco with swapping cases, I thought my H105 was faulty, so I got a H100i V2 with new 120mm Maglev fans. Well anyways with my h105 previously in prime 95 small FFTs i got around 80C, with SP120mm fans spinning at 1100RPM at most. But with my new H100i V2 with MagLev fans spinning at over 1500RPM, (same case and case fans too BTW), my temps are well above the 90C mark. Thermal paste I'm quite sure is spot on. It's the stock thermal paste right on the H100i V2, and I already know how to replace these AIOs as I changed out an H105 over 4 times last week. Specs: 4690K @ 4.5ghz 1.250v H100i V2 120mm maglev fans @ 1700RPM (when maxing out on synthetic.

Hi, so I have a bottleneck on my 4690K (4.3 oc). Modern games like BTF1 always go 100% usage. I have a pretty decent pc except my 8gb 1333 ram. Would upgrading my ram improve performance in a noticeable way? Right now im not complaining about performance but if i could get around 10 fps more I would consider the upgrade. Setup (4690k, 980ti, SSD, 8 ram 1333)

So, I just updated my PC and, after restarting, the CPU was at 100% usage, and I heard a lot of rattling from my PC. I have an Intel i5-4690k OC'ed at 4.1 GHz, with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO as the cooler, with my case being a Phanteks Enthoo Pro M. Is this something to worry about and, if so, what could be the problem? My PC boots off of an SSD.

So I've been running my i5 4690k @4.2Ghz stable (with "Adaptive" mode for voltage turned on) on an Asus Z97 - A motherboard for the past couple of months with no problems. After recently upgrading to a full custon water loop, I decided to give a higher overclock a shot. So far, with "Manual" mode turned on for CPU voltage, I can hold 4.5Ghz stable at 1.3 Volts - After testing with AIDA 64 Extreme, various other CPU intensive applications (e.g. Cinebench and Handbrake) and playihg some Battlefield 1. Each test was about 30 mins long. After being happy with my results I returned to the BIOS to change my CPU's voltage mode from "Manual" to "Adaptive" as I didnt want to be pushing 1.3V to my CPU the entire time to increase CPU longevity. However, when rebooting my PC, I found that Windows either would not start at all and my machine would be thrown in to an infinite boot loop, or if I made it to the logon screen, I would be promptly greeted with a BSOD. I dialed my OC back to find that the highest OC that was stable on "Adaptive" mode was my old 4.2Ghz overclock. Im currently running my CPU @4.4Ghz on 1.3V manual, but would prefer to use adaptive if possible. Any ideas? Thanks

Sooo this is my first time overclocking and i'm having issues with stability. I've tried 4.4, 4.5, and 4.6 GHz at 1.2v on a 4690k and im still having stability issues. I overclocked the north bridge as well and im wondering if i have to push up the chip set voltage as well?
