Hello I am wondering if there’s a way to oc locked (non k 4th gen intel cpus) with a “z” motherboard and if yes how. I own an i5 4690 and could really use an oc. Thanks in advance

Hello good people of the Internet. I am wondering whether it's worth it to build a new PC and I need your advice about it. (My specs are in my signature). I am mostly gaming and not video editing or rendering. I have a 1440p, 165Hz monitor and my GTX 970 isn't cutting it. I want to get a 1080 Ti or RTX 2080 as in my country the difference is only 50 euro, but I am wondering whether it's a good idea to simply buy a new PC and sell my current one, or just buy the 2080/1080 Ti and sell the 970. Since I will be gaming, I don't need to OC or an i7 chip, so I think that the i5 8400 will do just fine at 1440p. But is it worth it to build a system around it over my i5 4690k? Looking forward to your input.

Hi. I have a relatively old computer with an i5 4690 (non K) CPU which I want to give to a friend. Trouble is, she doesn't seem to appreciate large full tower monstrosities in the middle of her living room as much as I do, so I'd like to transfer it into a small mini atx case. Long story short, I need a mobo for an i5 4690 CPU. Now, I know it needs to have LGA1155 socket, and DDR3 RAM. What else would I need to know, or is every motherboard with LGA1155 going to do? Thanks in advance!

After some advice I bought a second hand i7 4790k to upgrade my i5 4690 I am running a H80i V2 cooler, for some reason the i7 run a lot hotter and gets there quicker for example running Prime 95 for a couple of seconds the i7 is hitting 80c+ before I stop the test whereas the i5 I can run for 10 Minutes with a max of 73c with a slow climb to get there.I have tried reapplying thermal grease 3 times before switching back to my i5 to recheck everything else which runs just like normal so I know i'm mounting it fine and the thermal past is still good.Could have it been delided and put back together incorrectly if so is there an oblivious way to tell.System Specsi5 4690 or i7 4790KCorsair H80i V2Gigabyte GA-Z97MX16GB DDR3Gigabyte R9 280Corsair 650W PSU BIOS Version F3

Hey guys! I'm building a new budget gaming PC because my old one desperately needed an upgrade So far I'm running; Intel i5 3350P @ 3.1 GHz (Socket 1155) Foxcann 2ADA Motherboard 6GB ram Asus Strix OC GTX 970 I want to upgrade my motherboard because the stock one sucks. But then I'll have to upgrade my processor as well, and i'm really on a tight budget, so as for now I've found these two processors i5 4460 @ 3.2 Ghz (Turbo Boost to 3.4) & i5 4690 @ 3.5 Ghz (Turbo Boost to 3.9) They're practically the same CPUs but I wanna get the 4690 because of the higher clock speed Since this is my first build, I'm not really sure if there will be HUGE difference in gaming for the price difference. So my question is; Is that 500 Mhz boost worth it for $50 or is there a CPU with better performance and costs the same or less? (I have a budget of around 200 for both motherboard and processor)

So my new pc build is stuck in a bootloop and I've ruled out that the psu and ram are not faulty. The problem is in the motherboard or cpu. If the cpu was dead, would any fans spin up? I still get beep codes and the fans spin for 5 seconds before cutting out and restarting. If the cpu was dead would I get any sign of life? Many thanks for any replies

I currently have an A10-6800(k?) and a 750ti and a single stick of shitty no-brand 8gb 1333mhz RAM. I don't play many other games other than Counter Strike-Global Offensive so I don't feel the need for a GPU update yet, the 750ti does fine for me. http://imgur.com/1ovsVcc]http://imgur.com/1ovsVcc (There is 16gb of RAM, i5-4690k,120gb SSD and a MSI Z97 PC Mate Motherboard.) Is this the most effective upgrade I can get for my money? Don't really want to go AMD, I already have water cooling(H55) so I can hope OC the i5 well. + Bonus, are there any downsides to 4 channel RAM other than no upgrades from 16-32? Thanks!

First 'proper' gaming PC build and I was just wondering if I could improve anything? Budget ~ £750. I'll be using the PC for gaming, recording and editing Also, rough idea on how much fps I'll be getting on AAA games and others like: F4, Battlefront, CS, Feed The Beast(Minecraft), Bioshock Infinite, BF4, Ark, Trine(s), modded Skyrim(A LOT O' MODS) etc etc? High 50/60s? The rig'll be pushing a 24" 1080p(144hz) monitor (anyone have an idea of how high I'll be able to OC with a 212 evo with two CM Jetflos, push, pull?) http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/wDjc99 Thanks! (if i've broken any rules just comment and I'll edit/delete)

I am looking to choose either purchase: AMD FX8320 or Intel i5 4690k I Understand that they are different chipsets, TDP, etc. -Just looking for gaming and rendering performance. Which would be better paired with a 750Ti, and which would render the fastest? All feedback is appreciated! Thanks

Config - i5 4690 + GA-Z97X-SOC Force + 4 NVIDIA GPUs Purpose - GPU rendering (octane render), which does not require SLI. Cannot work with ATI. Non-Gaming rig. Will the i5 4690 work with 4 GPUs on GA-Z97X-SOC Force ? I am wondering because the CPU only allows maximum 16 PCI Express lanes, and this motherboard, in a 4 GPUs setup, works in a 8x4x4x4x distribution, which is more than 16x. So my query is that, can this motherboard adopt to a 4x4x4x4x distribution in case of an i5 4690 ? I really hope it can because I dont want to go upto the X99 platforms due to budget constraints. And this config is already beyond my budget. Thanks for helping guys. Hoping for some responses.

Hi there, Before I continue with my question, here's my current PC build: -XFX FX-777A-ZNF4 Radeon HD 7000 Series; AMD; Radeon HD 7770; 1000 MHz; CrossFire; 2048 x 1536 pixels; 2560 x 1600 pixels (FX-777A-ZNF4) -Intel Core i3-3220 3300GHz 3MB Cache Socket LGA1155 Desktop CPU -Corsair CMX8GX3M1A1333C9 XMS3 8GB (1x4GB) DDR3 1333 Mhz CL9 Performance Desktop Memory Module -MSI LGA1155 u-ATX Motherboard (Intel H61, 2x DDR3, GBE, LAN) -500 WATT ATX POWER SUPPLY QUIET 20-24 PIN with SATA -LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x SATA Half Height Internal DVDRW Drive -Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drive -Fractal Design Core 1000 Series Micro ATX Case In another topic I made, I made up my mind about upgrading my GPU at Christmas to a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming. That being said, I'm sure that my current CPU will bottleneck the GTX 970, so I'm going to save up now to buy a new CPU before Christmas. I was firstly thinking about upgrading my current processor to an i5 3570 (non 'K' version, because my MOBO doesn't allow OC of the CPU), or an i7 3770 (non 'K'). I wasn't sure which one to get, since the 3770 is £60 more expensive than the 3570 (in the UK). Note that both, the 3570 and the 3770 are 3rd generation Intel processors (code name: Ivy Bridge). But then I was told that I should upgrade my current motherboard so that I could have a Haswell processor, and that it would be cheaper to get too. So I started digging around the web, and found the i5 4690 and the i7 4790 (both non 'K'). Links to both: i5 4690: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-3-50GHz-Graphics-Technology-Socket/dp/B00K5J2252/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436034896&sr=8-1&keywords=4690 i7 4790: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Professional-Processor-Threading-Technology/dp/B00J56YSLM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1436034914&sr=8-2&keywords=4790 I also found out that gaming-wise, both of these processors are identical, so spending another £70 (in the UK) for the i7 4790, when all you use your PC for is gaming, would be extremely idiotic. The i7 4790 would only be superior to the 4690, when rendering videos, editing videos, and streaming (none of which I do much of). So I narrowed my search down to the 4690, but then I would need a new motherboard. This is what my question is. What motherboard should I get which will be not too expensive, and deliver good quality? (I'm looking to ideally spend no more than £40-£50 max.). But wait... After all of this, I found this cheeky guy on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KPRWB9G?colid=2BRSRZDQYDHJG&coliid=IIDNBTYW5AW09&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl That's the i5 4690k for only £10 more than the 4690 (non 'K'). So that's a no-brainer for me. I don't know why, but the £300+ 4690k was reduced down to £170. So, which processor would you buy in this situation? Should I stay with my current MOBO, and simply buy the i5 3570, or should I upgrade my MOBO (to a cheap Haswell MOBO), and get the i5 4690, or should I upgrade my MOBO to a cheap Haswell MOBO (with overclocking for the CPU) and get the i5 4690k? Note: I was also told that I should also upgrade my PSU to a good, reliable one, but I think I'm going to refrain from that for now. Should I buy a new PSU too? I don't exactly have the budget for it right now though... Sorry for the really long topic, but I wanted to give as much detail as possible. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps, Cheers!

I am using a powercolor pcs+ r9 390, an i5 4690, 4 120mm cooler master sickle-flow fans, and a 1tb 7200 rpm had. Would a 650w PSU be enough?

I am new to overclocking, but this seems odd to me, but being a noob, I figured I'd ask some more knowledgeable people. System: CPU: i5 4690k 3.5GHz COOLER: CM Hyper 212 Plus MoBo: MSI Gaming 5 Z97 RAM: 8GB EVGA Superclocked DDR3 2400 PSU: EVGA Supernova 850w GPU: MSI GTX 970 OC OS: Windows 10 Home Premium I ran the OC Genie first to see what it would OC to before going manual. OC Genie put the system @ 4.0 GHz and ran fine for 24 Hours. After turning everything back to default and OC Genie off, I overclocked CPU to 4.2GHz @ 1.194v max(left set to auto) XMP disabled and RAM set to 2400(was 1600, just upped it to actual ram speed). I ran Aida64 for 30 minutes and Realbench for another 30, and then games for about 2 hours and had the system freeze, requiring hard reset(no BSOD or error notification on restart). Highest temps in stress test 73C; Highest while gaming(CS:GO; WoW) 65C. I am confused as to what would cause the freeze, as the temps are not much higher than stock settings while gaming. Are there more setting I need to adjust or maybe turn off. Sorry for the noob question, I have tried reading everything about overclocking and just not getting the answers I want from it, so hopefully someone out there can help me out. Thanks in advance!

i know ofc that the 4690 is better than the 4590 , but what i am asking is: does it provide that 30$ better performance? does it justify that price difference??(it may be less but in my country it is 30$) My build is primarily for gaming with light video editing, light rendering and photoshop. the build is as follows: Asus z87-a cpu: 4690/4590 gpu: g1 gaming gigabyte gtx 970 ram:hyperx beast 2400 mhz 2x4 gb 1 tb wd blue seasonicc m12 ii evo 620 psu Any recommendations? ik i wouldnt need a z__ mobo but i am planning to sli in the future and h__ dont have that feature.

I'm trying to build a high end PC with an R9 290 GPU (that is the result of a debate vs GTX 970) The basic build will have 1x R9 290 but i'm planning to add a second with crossfire in a year in order to extend its usefulness (the reason i picked the r9 290 over the GTX is that the predictions say that the 512 bit bus will be important as gaming evolves and im trying to make a build that wont need to be replaced in 1,5 year) The target is a built that can stand high graphics gaming paired with recording/streaming So now im trying to pick between motherboards and cpus to achieve a good build (whatever i get will probably be OC a little) AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor kit: 140$ ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard + 60$ for water cooling + 200$ cpu = 400$ Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor kit: 140$ msi z97 gaming 3 motherboard + 34$ Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler + 400$ cpu=574$ Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor kit:80$ ASRock H97M Anniversary motherboard + 230$ cpu= 310$ INTEL CORE I5-4690K 3.50GHZ kit with 140$ msi z97 gaming 3 motherboard + 34$ cooler + 280$ cpu= 434$ INTEL XEON E3-1230 V3 with 140$ msi z97 gaming 3 motherboard + 34$ cooler (i think the 212 is good enough) + 312$ cpu=486$ P.S. if the xeon e3-1230 can work with an asrock h97 then the price drops to 426$... but im afraid that i wont be able to OC with a cheap motherboard AMD FX-9590 4.7GHZ 8-CORE kit: 140$ ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard + 60$ for water cooling + 270$ cpu = 470$ Im seriously thinking about giving up, i've been researching for 2 weeks and im still no closer to deciding than i was when i started

So, any recommendation between 100-150 €? (120$-180$)? Thanks

Will the z87 support the 4690? the non K version. on the arc, it states that the 4690 isnt with the 4690k in the same family, the 4690 is with the 4670 and 4670k,it also states that it is a haswell not a devil's canyon(haswell refresh) like the 4690k,but there is an issue. the 4690 is launched with the 4690k in q2 2014, not with the haswell family in which it belongs in q2 2013. SO, does the assus z87-a support the 4690 like it supports other cpus from its family(4670k,4770k) or will it need a bios update ?

Hi All, Currently i have an old i7 2600, and a p8p67 motherboard. As most things with computers i have recently upgraded to a GTX780 (phantom GLH edition) from a 6870, and now the 780 is basically obsolete. So, im heading towards a mobo and cpu upgrade. im looking at a i5 4690 or 4670, and here is where it becomes tricky, what bloody motherboard do i get to try and extract the best out of the GTX780? and possibly SLI because i might get a 4k monitor. Are the ASUS Maximus worth it? Z87 v Z97? Sabertooth? Too many decisions........... Also, is it worth SLI'ing or should i get a 980 down the track? Thanks Legends. (also, i dont post here much because i generally find my answer just from reading)

So I have pretty much enough money to buy the new build I'm thinking of and was originally going to use an Intel i5 4690 but out of curiosity I thought I'd look into the AMD FX 8359 and found it pretty on par with the intel CPU, but I couldn't find any substantial infomation about how these both perform under a GTX 970 SLI (Yes I'm still going to buy a 970) so can you guys help me out on whether it's worth another 60 bucks to get the intel CPU or the AMD one is fine - won't bottleneck the graphics. Danka.

Hi all, just a quick question. Do this 2 cpu have much of a different? Or they are just the same but clocked abit higher?

When I press the power button or direct access key I can not get a display and so can not access the BIOS. I have tried everything. I have updated the BIOS version to 2103 so it should support the i5 4690k. I have also tried clearing the CMOS using the jumpers and my reseating the battery. I have tried different RAM configurations as well as reinstalling the CPU. Also when I try turning it on, the heat sink fan spins, stops, spins, stops then spins fast and returns to a constant steady speed if this helps. No other LED's are one when I try and turn the system on, the only one lit is the motherboard standby/power LED. The motherboard is connected to my TV via HDMI and all it displays is no signal, I have tried it on other TV's and is still displays the message. Please help. Specification when trying to boot: Intel i5 4690k Hyper x 8gb (2x4gb) Corsair RM 750 Asus Gryphon Z87 Sorry some are blurry, but you can get the idea. This is what it looks like when powered on: Without Flash: Here are some more that may help:

Which of the i5's (in the title) is the best for lots of indie gaming and can handle a couple of AAA titles? (It'll be paired up with a r9 270X or r9 280)
