Hi everyone, please bear with me here as I've never had or needed to use a mobile data dongle/adapter until this week. Reason I'm asking: I'm starting a new job next week but my WAN connection has started being super slow and very unreliable recently. I emailed my ISP who told me they are doing region-wide upgrades for the next 12-18 months so I should expect frequent outages. Amazing timing! I immediately looked for another ISP but it's this one or nothing as I'm in a rural area. So, I went to a store and picked up a 3G/4G dongle but I could barely even connect! When I managed to load a speed test I was getting a 10,000-40,000ms ping with a speed so slow it couldn't register, it just showed 0.00Mb/s. Of course, I immediately took it back to cancel it. I want to try with another network that supposedly has the best coverage in this country and some people have recommended. Question(s): Is there any possible way I can help or improve the signal on a mobile data dongle? Would the old improve your WIFI hack work by making a dish out of aluminum foil with the dongle placed in the middle? Or what about connecting it by a USB extension cable and putting the dongle outside the house in a waterproof box? Or same idea but in the attic/loft? Anything that could improve it? Appreciate the help.

Hello everyone I have this TP-Link MR200 v4 router with 4G SIM card. It kinda works but when I start to download on steam or open 4K vid (basically full load) it just turns off the signal and I need to manually restart router. I contacted my provider Orange and received new router, same problem. Guy at Orange told me that when signal drops from 4G to 3G then router does not switch correctly between them or when there is just full signal loss, they just do not reconnect at all. I read all the possible articles about how a big piece of crap MR200, 400 or 600 is and how they solved those drops with new modem. D-Link DWR-921 - this one was suggested and it should work good, but I rather prefer ASUS brand and I want something better quality with better UI, smaller etc. (also I found that ASUS cheaper on amazon) anyway my question is: Will this ASUS work correctly and autoswitch between 3G and 4G and will reconnect when power loss? I do not want to buy both and test them so I am asking if anyone had their hands on the ASUS 4G-N12 B1. Thanks.

rf shields The solutions to RF Shields for 3G mobile phones
kynix posted a topic in Guides and Tutorials
I am an electronic engineer, always making different various projects and thinking about solutions to different questions. Today, I am going to make an electronic project related to RF shields for 3G mobile phones. Here are my following projects: The cellular transmitter module will generate the maximum radiated power for any component in the handset, which may induce EMI and RFI. Similar problems can be used to reduce RF and EMI associated with EMI and RFI The sensitivity to external magnetic fields can be minimized. So, what kind of shielding design method has the best efficiency? This three-part series discusses the effective RF shielding method around today's cellular transmitter modules. In recent years, mobile phones in the form, function, performance and cost have undergone tremendous changes. The evolving new technology has spawned smaller, more energy efficient and highly integrated semiconductor devices that continue to produce more portable (mobile) mobile products with more integrated levels. Operators are providing additional services such as SMS (SMS), multimedia (MMS) and GPS, while manufacturers add additional wireless features such as FM radio and other functions for mobile cellular phones, as well as MP3 players and digital cameras. Achieving all of these features requires a form factor and volume that poses a challenge to handset designers and hardware engineers. As a result, handset designers working on printed circuit board (PCB) levels are experiencing undesirable core issues such as coupling, coupling, and crosstalk between integrated devices. And all of these problems led to more design rework, the lack of versatility between the phone profile and the extended design cycle, and these have increased the cost of mobile phone development. In today's competitive market pressures, these factors play a key role in the success of mobile handset manufacturers and designers who develop them. One area in the early stages of handset design that could help solve these core problems is the widespread use of the shield. Shields reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), greatly weakening the unwanted radiation, alleviating the disaster it caused. At present, shielding and RF frequencies go hand in hand, because all RF communication standards have some requirement to minimize unwanted radiation. The effectiveness of the shield is characterized by its ability to attenuate the radiation signal in a wide spectral range. For example, a metal "container" with a movable cover may constitute a shield, or the container itself may be directly welded to the PCB. The use of a cover structure is useful for regulation, so it is often used in TV tuners and other applications, but the effectiveness of the shield is highly dependent on the electrical connection between the cover and the container. It is based on the basic concept of RF shielding: time-varying electromagnetic field (EM) will be in the conductor around the field line induced current. Therefore, the induced current in the perfect conductor will produce an EM field opposite to the evoked field, thereby canceling the field lines within the conductor. Therefore, shielding too many holes, grooves and openings will reduce the shielding effectiveness, which is due to the induced current can only exist in the conductor of free electrons flow. The opening on the conductor (container) means that there is no free electron there, which causes the current to flow along other paths along the opening, so that the induction field can not completely counteract the evoked field. The skin depth is another important factor, which is determined by the ability of the EM wave to penetrate the conductive membrane. In particular, when the low frequency is of particular importance, a thicker film will be required for effective shielding of the RF signal. Based on my project, I outlined a circuit and after testing over and over again, it worked well in the end. Ps: Excuse me if I was wrong improperly in words or expressions. I am a green hand in electronic engineerings. I need continual learnings. Those are just my understandings. What is your idea ? Do you agree with my ideas ? Any of your ideas would be highly appreciated. May someone would like to help ? thanks in advance. -
Hello world, I am building my first PC and have a question. I am wondering the GTX 1060 3g or 6g? I am running a i5-7600K with the MSI Z270 GAMING PRO LGA 1151 I have 16g's of ram. 3000 DDR So again I guess Im just wondering if the extra $50 worth it for the 6g of vram? Youtube seems to be very 50/50. Any tips help as I am a complete "newb" and exploring building my own PC. Thanks for all the replys!!!!!

I have both simcard slots occupied on my Asus Zenfone 2 Laser. One operates on the T-Mobile network while the other one operates on the AT&T network. Seeing the 2nd sim is the one running on the AT&T network, it's stuck in 2G mode. I know AT&T recently shut off 2G support. Would there be anyway of forcing my phone to run in 4G and 3G simultaneously? I am willing to root my phone and flash custom rom.

I have an old iPhone 3g that worked about 3 days ago, but when I went to the setting to reset it to factory settings it just went crazy. Before I clicked ,,erase iPhone,, it warned me about my files and that the process might last an hour (pretty normal so far). When it started there was the apple logo and a progress bar. The bar filled up but the logo stayed and it doesn't go away. I tried waiting for the battery to die but when I put the phone to charge the logo comes back again. Then I tried going into restore mode with iTunes, but the computer doesn't see the phone at all. Help please.

Hi so as many of you will know I have an extremely bad internet connection at being worse than 77% of the UK and I also have my brother that plays Destiny on the XBox which take up most the Internet. Would it make sense for me to buy a cheap 3G or 4G router with a large data limit so I can get faster speeds for my PC and download games etc without impact in performance to other devices? If so, do any of you guys know of a good solution for me to use? Thanks - BP

Hey, I have recently moved to a village that has ok-ish 3g-4g connection using sim-card. But no broadband cable provider. Have a Netgear R6260 AC router for all of my devices. But it does not support 3g/4g sim-card or usb modem dongle. When I visited a local store I got a choice between these ... 1. go with usb modem & 3g/4g router combo using D-Link DWR-111 3G / TP-Link TL-MR3420 / Tenda 4G630 router with D-Link DWP-157 / D-Link DWM-222 2. or use dedicated sim-slot router like D-Link DWR-921 / TP-Link Archer MR200 / TP-Link MR400 Now I will use these new router or combo whatever only for 3g/4g, as I alreasy have Netgear R6260. Tasted speed up~25mbps - down~18mbps on android. I would prefer 3g/4g signal strength with these setup as wifi will not be in use. I don't know which to pic. 1st options cost is half of 2nd .... but I was wondering if usb dongle have poor signal then dedicated routers .....

I didn't know where else to post this so I'll drop it here. At school I unearthed a Dell Latitude E6250 that had been stripped for parts and stowed away in catacombs of the IT closet. After blowing off the dust and installing an HDD and RAM I found out it had a SIM card, making it a 3G capable machine. The school has said they're gonna toss it in the next wave of laptop replacements coming soon and that if they do need to purge the laptop I could take it. However, ow that it's out I'm allowed to experiment with it. I'm aware the laptop supports 3G (has an AT&T SIM in it) but since the 3G network has been gutted and cannibalized for the 4G and 4G LTE networks, I have a feeling that even if it did get activated it would be slow as hell. However, Dell has a part out, the DW5800 that belongs in higher-ranking E6** (owo) ranking laptops (the software contains the name and the systems supporting the chip here) that can connect to 4G and 4G LTE networks (this chip came out around the time Verizon was pushing it, so this little part was pretty landmark and had some press around it, plenty of articles online about it). My question is, since all it really is is a mini PCI card, is it possible to install it or an equivalent card to get 4G LTE on this laptop? ...and before you ask why, just know yes this is a really stupid idea but at this point I kinda want to do it and if not actually go through with it I just want to see if it's possible.

I'm not completely sure whether this is the right thread to post this topic. So, please let me know if I'm mistaken. Anyway I have a old 3G mobile dongle lying around that I haven't used in years but I'm curious to know if there is way to use it to make phone calls directly from PC. Thanks in advance! P.S. I use windows 10 and the model number of the dongle is Huawei E173u-1

Hey guys, I've been wondering since Linus started promoting Ting, how much data do you use? I use a ton of cellular data on an unlimited plan, but even limited plans often charge less than the $10/GB Ting charges. So, not to criticize Linus, just out of curiosity, how much data do you use each month? Bonus points if you include how much you pay for your plan.

http://www.cnet.com/news/sprint-to-offer-free-international-data-roaming/ Sprints launch a new International Value Roaming, which let you roam data only in the 15 countries that are listed by Sprints. This was announced on Friday. 15 Countries -Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Russia, South Korea, Spain and the UK. Travelers can now check email, Facebook, Twitter and do everything else at no additional cost in Latin America, Europe and Japan. Sounds great to me!! People with this International plan will get free text and unlimited data roaming up to 2G Speeds. But phone calls will cost 20 cents per minute in the countries listed. According to Cnet, the new International offer is similar to a plan in October 2013 that introduced by T-mobile. Both companies introduced these new exciting plan to make them more appealing than ATT and Verizon. If you choose the International plan by Sprints, you'll have to stick with the 2G networks, even in the U.S. If I got that wrong please corrected in the comment section. If you want the fast 3G connections, you can purchase $15 for 100mb on a one day pass, $25 for 200mb on 7 days, and $50 for $500 on 14 days which is two weeks. One lucky thing that they do not charge for over-use the fast paid data, they just converted it back to the 2G speeds. Sprints will also allow calling on the Wi-Fi Hotspot while going overseas with no charge when you are calling to U.S, Puerto Rico number. Will this plan fit me? The answer will be no because I can't stand 2G networks and I don't travel much. Give Me Some Feedback.

Hello guys, First of all sorry if my english is bad. So, I bought my lg l fino last week and in my country (Argentina) the 3G band goes from 850-1900mhz and this phone (LG L FINO D290) has a 900-2100mhz 3G band range, my question is, can this range be changed or is it a hardware thing and I'm screwed? Please help me, I won't be able to even sell it because no one will want a phone that doesn't work on 3G (also there is no other carrier in my country with a 900-2100mhz 3g band range) thanks a lot

Hi so I have an idea to make a Raspberry Pi based highway camera. So what I need help with is I want to use a 3G dongle to connect the Pi to the internet but how can I access a stream from the pi. So I have an server that I would like to act as a basic NVR and just record streamed video from the Pi but obviously I cannot do port forwarding on 3G so how would I get the Pi to transmit live video to my server over 3G. This would be a basic timelapse camera. Thanks.

So my brother got the Asus RT-AC68U dual band router because it's really "future-proof" in many ways. What I want to do, is to try out our existing 4g network on the new router to see how it performs when using a 4g stick via usb port. I'm using a Huawei e3276s usb-dongle. It says that you could use an external 4g/3g usb dongle with it to acces internet through it, but I can't get it to acces internet. However the router recognizes the usb and that it has a sim-card inside of it. So far I've set it to use usb as a primary network and I've updated the firmware. Pls halp.

Good day! I'm from the Philippines and my internet connection is very slow. I have a Sun Post Paid Broadband 3G Pocket Wifi which is supposed to have an "UNLIMITED" load on internet connection. When I still had my old PC a couple of months ago, the connection was fast. I could download at 30 kbps - 40 kbps (peak hours) to 200 kbps - 700 kbps (off-peak hours). But when bought a new rig just this month and started downloading, all I'm getting is 0.1 kbps - 3 kbps (peak hours) to 0.1 kbps - 30 kbps (off-peak hours). This is slowing many things for me and my family. My wife couldn't do her business transactions online anymore. My daughter couldn't go to wikipedia without waiting for almost 3 hours before she could get into the site. I couldn't watch video tutorials anywhere on the internet anymore. I even had to wait an hour before I could log in here. None of us even do gaming on our internet connection just so that we could do our desired tasks on the internet everyday. Maybe someone here or anyone from the Philippines could give me a step by step instruction on how to speed up my internet connection. Please help. I don't want to think I'm wasting our money now paying for this crappy connection because we still had a good connection a couple of months ago. And honestly, this is the cheapest we could afford on a monthly basis compared to Globe and Smart.

Hey guys, i am buying a laptop for myself and i would like to have a sim card slot built in. Does anyone know any particular models That have the capability? Lenovo thinkpad i believe can connect to the internet via sim card but they are really expensive, also i am not sure ehether i can insert the sim card from any provider, so that i am not bound to one plan. Having a phone contantly and using it as a hotspot isnt an option.. Maybe a usb sim card dongle comes cheaper? Thanks!

Hello, I want to buy a tablet for myself with 3G, but tablets with 3G cost a small fortune, I'm a student so I don't have a lot of money on my hands. That's why I want to buy a wireless modem, also multiple devices can connect to it. My question is : Are they universal, can I put in any sim-card in it with a 3G service? Also, do you guys use any wireless modems? Are they worth it? Or should I just wait and buy a 3G tablet. (Here's a link to a wireless modem : http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/productFeatures.do?pinfoId=3505&directoryId=5009&treeId=3619&tab=0 if you don't trust the link, google Huawei E5151 wireless modem)
