Hi we recently have had an issue with 3ds max 2020 after upgrading to V-Ray 6.1, typically we work in 2 instances of the program so while one is loading a file we can work in the other. However after the V-Ray upgrade the issue is that while the file is loading it freezes and locks up everything in windows until its finished loading. What I've found is that if I manually change the process affinity to force the 2 instances of 3ds max to use separate cores the issue isn't present. I have already contact V-ray and 3dsmax support but they are horribly slow so I would like to get some suggestions from the community.

Budget (including currency): 650 euro or 800$ Country: Greece Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 3Ds Max , AutoCAD and Photoshop Other details: No peripherals needed, no excisting part, the pc to be replased has a Pentuim E2140 , 2GB DDR2 ram, 400W old PSU , old and bit broken case and an AMD HD7750. The resolution target is 1080p at 60 Hz. It's for a friend who does interior designing as a job at some companies using those software. This are pretty bad since there is so low supply. Please give me some recommendations cause it's driving me nuts to decide.

Hello guys!, I thank you in advance for the help. In my office we are looking to buy new computers for 4 architects that use and will use the following softwares: Autodesk Revit 2017 Autdesk Autocad 2017 Autodesk Naviswork 2017 Autodesk 3DsMax 2017 Autodesk 3D Civil Adobe Photoshop CS6 Adobe Illustrator CS6 Adobe Indesign CS6 Lumion 7 Artlantis 6 SIG For this functions, we use to works several 3D models of more than 40.000 m2 that could be easily 4-10 gb of 1 single file and more than 25 files linked to it. I have this draft of what we should buy in order to work in a nice workflow(since we work with a server) GPU:Intel XEON (16 cores - 32 threats - 45 MB Caché)Video Card:Nvidia Quadro M6000Ram:64 GB de RAM Storage:SSD 512 GBDisplays:2 ASUS Display of 21' So, here is the questions about what I need. Should we use Intel XEON or a good i7 with overclock over 4.0? Should we use a Nvidia Quadro(since Quadro are officials for Revit) or should I go for unofficial Titan? Thanks in Advance.

I'm there's some 3D gurus on here somewhere! I'm working on a personal project which has predominantly been developed in my sketchbook and Photoshop. I'm transitioning into 3D software to try and realize my vision more accurately and with greater flexibility when it comes to design iterations. I'm using a bunch of different programs (Marvelous Designer for clothing, Daz3d for characters and so on).I have dabbled in 3DMax a few years ago but I've heard Maya/C4D are most common for designers these days.I'm looking to focus in on one 3D program for modelling and renders so I'm not overwhelming myself as I'm learning Daz and M.D as well. In the future I can expand to incorporate whatever I need but for now I'd like to know which is the most well rounded and approachable for what I'm trying to get done. Primarily I'm looking to achieve a still presentation of my character/prop/environment designs. A good visual reference for you might be Clement's work, this type of presentation is what I'm aiming for. Still Example: https://www.clementbalavoine.com/Neuro-1Animated Example:

Hello, dear forum! First time here, as i were looking to build for my college pc, working on various software (3DSMAX , solidworks, CATIA, Keyshot, sketchup, adobe suite, microsoft virtual studio). Im also doing side job taking on photo and video editing (lightroom, ps, ai, vegas, premiere) Thus i'm just here all out asking various community about whether my build is enough for me. bear in mind that i've got budget constrain (598dollar usd to be precise) so far, my nost valued (and on budget ) spec was : ryzen 5 2600 ASROCK B450m pro 16GB DDR4 3000MHZ gtx 1060 6gb PNY SSD 240GB ssd Aigo PSU 550W 80+ Bronze Aigo Black tech mini/Segotep Prime M my question is: 1. will it be sufficient for handle all the software? 2. will stock wraith amd cooler come in bundle with the cpu will be enough to handle the 'heat'? 3. does gtx1060 can be rendered well on 3dsmax? i really wanted the rx580 but i researched that 3dsmax did not play well on radeon gpu. thank you in advance for those who replying to this!

Hey People of the PC Community... I've finally accumulated the right amount of money to buy a PC Now comes the time to decide if I go team Intel or team AMD Here are the 2 Potential Builds: AMD - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rPWdNN Intel - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CR8kkT I would like my build to be able to run Games at 1080p on very high settings at 60FPS+, and to have decent render times for projects that involve Premiere Pro, After Effects and a bit of 3d Modelling and Animation Please leave any suggestions to how to improve the builds while keeping them as below $800 as possible. Mention any issues I might run into, but ultimately tell me which build is more Worth it. Also, I have taken into account that the Ryzen build is easier to upgrade, but I think I will probably upgrade GPU's before CPU

Hello Guys, I'm new on this forum, so please if I made an appropriate comment or statement, please correct me. I’m Going to build my new PC for 3D Modelling and 3D rendering for 3DsMAX and V-ray, but there are a lot of question I need to ask because I’m worried if I build this PC is not going to work properly. This is my Specification: Motherboard: still confused whether I should build for more RAM or for 4-way SLI. ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS or ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS CPU: 2x Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 22-Cores GPU: (It will be increase in the future depend on the motherboard) 2x ASUS ROG-Strix GTX 1080 Ti – 11Gb Memory: (It can be increase in the future if the Motherboard is ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS) Corsair Dominator Platinum Series 128 (8x16Gb) DDR4 2666MHz SSD: (for OS) Samsung 960 Pro 512 GB M.2(PCIe) SSD SSD: (for Primary Active Data) Samsung 850 Pro 1 TB HDD: (for Storage) Seagate Barracuda Pro 4Tb PSU: (Please suggest me the best PSU for this PC) MasterWatt Maker 1500 Digital PSU Computer Case: Cooler Master Cosmos C700P Full Tower Water-cooling: Thermaltake Floe Riing RGB 360 TT Premium Edition My question is: 1. Should I focus on 4-way SLI from ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS or more RAM slot from ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS? 2. Can I do 4-way SLI on ASUS ROG-Strix GTX 1080 Ti – 11Gb for future upgrade (As I review this product is very thick GPU)? Or should I buy the Original GTX 1080 Ti from NVIDIA? 3. Is ASUS Z10PE can handle Xeon E5-2699 V4? I have take a look at the driver available in this motherboard and there is Xeon E5-2699 V4. However, in the overview, it specifically states that this motherboard is for E5-2600 V3 family. Should I change to E5-2699 V3 instead or it is alright? If there is any problem with this PC setup, please let me know… J Thank you so much and look forward to hearing from you guys…

Hello All, I'm a bit in a bind, at work we have made a small mistake with the PC power needed by a "3d Animator". Bit of context: We are a company that design our own Lasercutters(like the one last shown in the video from Linus but then a bit bigger :-)) Since we design ourselves and our number 1 concern is Customer care instead of sales. (We really want our customers to sell our machine's instead of us, so they need to be impressed) but lasers are sometimes hard to explain so we want to make allot of 3d animation tutorial videos. we already started with a Beam alignment Animation and that went well till we started with the rendering. then we were a bit shocked. now we hijack everybody's pc on the Content department (4 PC's in total) and it still takes 2 weeks rendering (24/7) the used PC's are: HP Workstation Z240: E3-1245v5: 4 Core - 8 threads, 3.50GHz (3.90GHz turbo), 32GB/512SSD/2TB/AMD-W5100 with 1 of the 4 stations with a Nvidia Quadro P2000 that was the first hope jump so now we want to Buy a new render pc all together to make sure that we can render quicker and thus make more animations per time. we asked our ict supplier and he said this would be a good setup: HP Workstation Z840: 2xE5-2680v4: 14 Core - 28 threads, 2.40GHz (3.30GHz turbo), 32GB/512SSD/NVIDIA Quadro P6000 24GBGDDR5X but I really want to know if it's a good investment. Rendering is not my ICT passion point so I don't know what the performance increase will be in real life. what now take's 2 weeks how long will it take then? are there other good systems we can think of? price is a bit of a vague issue. if the results make it that its cheaper in the long term then the initial costs aren't a real problem, only a discussion point. the Z240 costs us €2000.- excl tax and the Z840 costs us €13,000.- so those are the indication prices. we are stated in the Netherlands. is there anyone here that knows enough about 3d rendering in 3dmax and is a pc builder that can assist us in a good pc that will reduce the render times from 2 weeks to allot shorter. (rendersettings used are in the attachments) currently, so the render times are on average 1week rendering give's on average 4 seconds video.

Hello, I recently build a PC for the purpose of rendering. I used 3dx Max Vray for render. These are the specs Intel Xeon e5 2660 v4 2.0 GHz 14 core ASRock X99 Extreme4 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 64GB (8 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Memory Kit Model F4-2400C15Q2-64GRK 512gb + 1 tb SSD 750w PSU Gold Rated Nvidia GTX 1070 Founders Edition When testing the specs with another computer that has much lower specs than this, the render came out slower. I tested both Vray RT and Vray Adv. Can you please assist me with this?

Hi guys! I need some help/advice on what CPU and motherboard I should go for. I am currently a student studying Games art and I require a computer that will perform well in the rendering and computing criteria. I'm not too fussed about the computer GPU because Unreal engine and other engines cater to that very well. I will be using programs such as Zbrush, 3dsmax ,and Substance painter. These programs eat up so much memory and CPU on my current PC. I would like some help on what CPU, RAM, and motherboard combination I should get for best performance. I was considering picking the parts and getting someone/ company to build it for me. I really have no idea where to start and any response would be really appreciated. My budget is £ 700 or $1000

Hello guys, So a friend of mine needs a PC for 3d rendering in programs like 3ds max, arhiCAD and so on (he is an architecture student). He uses the CPU to render and the GPU to move around in his project from what i understand. The budget is not fixed but we considered 2000$ as the absolute maximum, but this price is stretching it pretty hard and he would consider it only if the performance gain is significant. So we came out with 2 basic builds... First of all i have a question, when it comes to ddr4 how much does the frequency & CAS matter in real world performance? I mean it should matter, but i rarely see anyone saying this ram is much better than that RAM nad i even heard linus saying "Just get the color you want" (storage is already covered) 1 CPU : Intel 6700k CPU Cooler : EVO 212 Mobo: Asus z170-A RAM: 16 GB dual channel DDR4 memory GPU : Asus Gtx 970 Strix Power supply : Corsair RM550W (fully modular) Cost : around 1100$ 2 CPU : Intel 5820k CPU Cooler : EVO 212 Mobo: Asus x99-A RAM: 32 GB quad channel DDR4 memory GPU : Asus Gtx 970 Strix Power supply : Corsair RM750W (fully modular) Cost: aroun 1450$ What do you think ? I am also open to suggestions of other builds for 3d rendering. Thanks

Hey everyone, I'm in a pickle. I'm a 3D artist, and I do a lot of modelling and baking. Baking is basically taking a high poly prop (anywhere from a few hundred thousand to a few million polygons), and getting normal maps (magical textures that give the illusion that the 2000 polygon object on screen has 2 million polygons), as well as ambient occlusion maps (soft shadows around edges, corners and crevices). Now, from what I presume, normal maps as well as AO maps is just light calculation (lots of math). I have the budget now to buy myself a nice cpu (thinking about either a 4690k or 4790k), and if I did decide to upgrade, I would also have to purchase a new mobo. All in all, it would roughly be a $500-700 upgrade. Now, I don't have a problem spending that kind of money, but I would need at least a 50% increase in performance to justify my purchase and not feel bad about myself before I go to bed every night. I know this is a very broad question, but in a way it's also specific. My game's run fine, and my fps is somewhat glorious. In UE4 and other engines, I have no problems or hiccups, but the fact is I don't play games all day, I make models that go in games. So I guess if anyone has any input, or some advice they could share on the matter, it would be greatly appreciated. Everything runs fine, it's just that sometimes I find I'm waiting 30-40 minutes for something to bake, that would normally take the computers at my school a minute (Xeon E5 2697 v2). Cheers Also, the software I'm using to model is 3dsmax 2015 and using the render to texture tool. Specs: CPU - FX-6300 @ 4.6 GHz GPU - GIGABYTE 280x RAM - 16GB ADATA XPG 1866 OS - ADATA XPG SX910 256 GB STORAGE - WD BLUE 1TB

[in the UK] To start off with, I'm really sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place, this is my very first post to the forums here, I've been following LinusTechTips since the NCIX days, never really felt the need to come over here until now, maybe I'll be more active from now. Okay, so I'm a PC guy, always have been, the whole 'portable PC' thing didn't interest me, since my smart phone was good enough for me to get by with my Emails and videos and such, however; now being a University student, it's seeming like it would be a more like a convenient addition to my setup. So why do I need two? Well... My girlfriend is also looking to pick one up, since her ancient one bricked last year and she hasn't got around to replacing it. I'm the one who usually advises her on this sort of stuff, so that's lumped in with my purchase. So, why the post? I'm knowledgeable with hardware, but know very little about notebooks/laptops, I barely even understand the distinction between the two besides size and weight. I'd like to know which brands to avoid and look out for in terms of battery life, longevity and build quality, since I really have no clue in this department. I know nothing about the performance of laptop processors in comparison to a PC's, I would imagine much lower clock speeds and/or heat could be a problem, but that's about the extent of my knowledge there, I don't even know exactly WHAT the standard is for core count and frequency in laptops. I have my PC for all the heavy lifting, but I'd still like to be able to open my projects whilst out and about [i study game design/development] Alright, so the requirements for mine are as follows: To be able to run 3DS Max 2015 [This is the main thing I'd need it to work with] To be able to run Unity 5 To be able to run Photoshop and Flash Professional To be able to run Visual Studio 12 If it can run these, I'll be a happy guy, and know that my other software will be fine. I could lug a 17" machine around, but I hear that this size is just uncomfortable and awkward [giggity], so I guess I'm lookin' at 15.6". Resolution doesn't matter much, I don't need 1080p. More concerned about running the apps listed above and below than fidelity. Optionally: A bit of Light gaming, [Dark Souls 2 if possible, but really not a requirement, I'm just a big fan o' Souls ] Much less important to me, but it'd be nice if I could throw hearthstone and a few other small games on. It'd be convenient if it could run UE4, but I know this is a much higher requirement than the others, so I'll keep this as optional for now, since it'd bump the price up for sure. The requirements for hers are much simpler: Minecraft Hearthstone MS-Office Gmail Web browsing Skype Really, that's about it. She doesn't need anything too beefy, but chances are she'll be taking it to and from work and such, so portability is more of a factor for her with her [i know she won't mind me saying this]; tiny lady arms. [[she does carry a decent backpack around, chances are; a 15.6" machine would fit in her bag, but it'd be convenient if it were a little smaller, I'm sure. It's more the weight than anything else]] Any 16:9 res. Details: Operating system isn't really too relevant for either machine, if they come with Win8.1; great, less effort for me. If not I'll be wiping the drives and throwing 8.1 on there myself anyway. That also goes for any pre-installed software, any bloatware gets the boot from me, and I can take care of the applications I do actually want, along with security [since we all have our preferences there.] We'll both by carrying around wireless mice, since we both equally hate trackpads with a passion, so quality of trackpad means basically nothing to us. Manufacturer refurbished machines are totally fine, so long as there's a returns policy and warranty. Budget: For mine - Lowest appropriate price, I'm flexible for this, but preferably less than £450[700$] if possible. If I need to go higher, I can: but that's what I'm throwin' at ya' right now as a rough estimate.[i am a student after all] For hers - £200 [310$]. Somewhere around this price, not much higher. That's basically it. Thanks a ton if you can help me narrow down the search, otherwise I guess I'll just go with my gut and order something that sounds about right.

Hi! I'm going to buy new parts for my new pc, including 4770s cpu and i've been wondering what is better for rendering ? 7970 by Club 3D or 670 by Gainward? Mostly i use 3ds max with vray that is able to use open cl engine to accelerate rendering. 670 has CUDA, 7970 is better "on the paper". What should I choose? Maby something diffrent?
