Nintendo is dropping Wii U and 3DS online support in April 2024 Very disappointed but not at all shocked as it was gonna happen. 3DS and Wii U were my first consoles. But, a generation of online gaming gone just like that. Oh well https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/1709418623566020975?t=tseMeLtCSQZN4F0j3_SKeQ&s=19 https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/63227/

When walking outside yesterday as of making this post, my 2DS fell out of my pocket falling onto concrete causing some dings, the drop caused the cartridge that was in there to pop out. When I got back inside I found that when putting it into sleep mode and then taking it out of sleep mode if find that 1 of 3 things happens 1. The console reboots causing what ever game is in the background to close 2. The latter but there is a short high pitched tone when putting it into sleep mode (this one only happens usually when there is a game launched in the background) 3. (Most common) The console outputs a high pitched tone and does not turn on, the pitch stays on indefinitely I think (I turn the console of fully because its annoying). Does anyone know how to fix this? I opened it up to see if there was any internal damages and there appeared to be none. Summary In March of 2023, Nintendo will now no longer support the buying of digital copies of games for the 3DS and the Wii U. Quotes My thoughts Oh no! The Wii U and 3DS are no longer getting digital gam- oh who cares. Everyone has physical copies anyways. I mean, for the people who do have digital copies, they still keep their games. You just can’t buy them anymore. Who even buys Wii U/3DS games from the eShop anyways? Everyone just gets a physical copy. Anyways, I guess it is sad that these consoles are now dated, but then again, you can still play games on them. Sources the verge

Does anyone know any capture methods for 2ds/3ds?

Hello, To make it quick, I'm running the latest version of HANS(re-downloaded the starter kit last night), I'm trying to run Mystery Machine to obtain Mystery Gifts for my Pokemon Y game. Unfortunately, after downloading the .code file to my HANS folder(This HANS folder is in the root of the SD card not the starter kit folder fyi)(also I changed the .code file to match my game ID) I get stuck. I leave all the defaults in HANS, clock speed, ROMFS, etc. EXCEPT for CODE -> SD I have that set to YES because that's how it reads the .code file(duh) BUT when I run it, I'm getting stuck with "invalidated icache".

So I cracked the hinge on my 3ds pretty badly and also has other damages like scratches on the top screen and the bottom cover coming off which both aren't as bad. It has only about 3 months before the crack on the hinge gets so bad the screen falls off. So what should I do Buy a cheap brand new 2ds or repair my 3ds for about the same price but only replace the hinge problem nothing else.

I just received my new 3ds through the mail. Bought it directly from Nintendo and it's one of those crappy ones with a TN display. I spoke with customer support before I opened it (I wanted to know their returns policy if it was TN) and he was insisting this display was superior to the older 3ds generations in every way. He also said I can return it as unwanted within a 14 day period (though I'd have to pay returns, essentially wasting my own money over this purchase, due to their own 'scam') and if it is faulty, 30 days. Funny thing is the box has one of those Nintendo quality seals. I don't think those seals have meant this little before. He was talking about the 14 day return period as if a TN display made it "unwanted". No. I want a 3ds. Just one with a decent display, which reflects the price tag. My older 3ds xl had top and bottom IPS displays and let me say the quality was far far superior to this ""new"" crap they've pulled out their asses. The main reason I got a new 3ds is for the alleged better 3d. I wasn't trying to sacrifice one property of the console for another. A poor resolution I can live with. So long as the screens' colours pop. And the only thing this 3ds has popped is my wallet. I paid £150 for something worse than I already have. I could have bought a better Android device for that price. Though mind you, mobile gaming is also a scam. Some people have even reported that the new 3ds 3d effect on TN displays is worse than it was before. It's times like this I can truly appreciate the freedom of PC gaming but even PCs don't come with true freedom. I despise Windows. ---- Why did I call this a scam? They're advertising two products with vastly different experiences as the same product. You would not advertise a Sennheiser and a Beats as the same just because they output sound at the end of the day. This is the same. --- Has anyone got any experience with Nintendo customer support on this and how I can get an IPS replacement? The rep was essentially saying all new 3ds displays are the same. His ignorance was shockingly disappointing. Has anyone received a normal sized new 3ds with IPS displays?

Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch will there be any point of getting a Nintendo 3DS (Latest version). Just curious on the subject as I sold my Nintendo DSI for £30. Not bad for 2 games and the portable console itself. If I remember correctly i watch a video of Etika streaming some new games for the 3DS so I guess it's still getting games. I don't wanna end up getting the DS and something better pops up. Bit late to the party, but oh well.

Users of hacked/jailbroken 3DS consoles have unfortunately found them on the wrong end of the Nintendo ban-hammer recently. Many users of custom 3DS firmware (also known as CFW). Have been banned from any 3DS online services, as stated by Kotaku. I was first made aware of the news through the /r/3dshacks subreddit. There is megathread/faq regarding the issue here. I quickly became worried as I have my 3DS hacked to run emulators (namely for old gba games that I still own) and hacking my animal crossing town once in a while. Fortunately I was one of the few not affected by the initial ban and thusly have disabled wifi on my device as a precaution. Some users have found temporary workarounds to get unbanned by changing their device friend seed. But until we're sure how Nintendo is determining which consoles to ban and prevent is (eg by filtering out which telemetry data the console reports), its advised against doing this as Nintendo could just detect and ban the newly changed seeds. There are also posts on GBAtemp speculating the possible criteria for being banned here and here. The working theories are that Nintendo has been scanning through telemetry data the 3DS sends and then flagging any consoles with non-authorized apps (e.g. homebrew system tools, emulators, custom roms, etc). It's also been speculated that this might be a reaction to the recent release of sighax/boot9strap, which gives users access to the 3ds early on in the boot process and allows for greater control over all elements of the hardware/software (including device encryption keys). Nintendo's comment on the issue has been limited to citing a ban as consequence for terms of service violations. While some are citing this as an anti-piracy measure, it stills fail in that regard as users are still fully able to install and play pirated games, though offline.

So I have a 3DS I bought in England but for the summer I will be in the US. I am interested in some old DSi games from my childhood but I can't be sure if they will be compatible with the foreign 3DS. I know they are compatible but I don't know if there is a region lock on any of them or a region lock for the 3DS. The specific games are Custom Robo Arena and Super Mario 64 DS, these were two defining games of my early childhood with the DS and I would love to relive that. Any help would be great, thanks!

It's been a really long time since I've done any mobile gaming. 'Mobile gaming' not in the sense of smartphone games, but rather any type of portable consoles like the DS lineup from Nintendo. The last time I've taken part in portable gaming was more than 6 years ago with the release of the Nintendo DSi. I quite enjoyed the experience and found the design of the DS to be interesting and unique. Later I sold it on my local Craigslist because I wasn't using it as much, but that's a different story. Later even, I started building computers, found this community, then started gaming more on the PC. Now my interest in Nintendo has sparked again after the recent release of Pokémon Sun/Moon. That got me thinking, I've missed out on such DS exclusives as: Mario Kart 7, Legend of Zelda, Monster Hunter, Fire Emblem, and many others. Surely as a gamer I should do my civil duty and experience these as well? That led me to spend some time researching the best skew of portable console and weigh my options. I found that the old DSi was replaced by the 3DS, and now it seems that as of about 2 years ago the 3DS was also improved upon with the release of the 'New' 3DS. Also worth mentioning are the 3DS XL and 2DS (but I'm not terribly interested in those). So I decided to see where I could purchase the 'new' 3DS from (retailers/ resellers) and what the current prices were. THIS is where I'm running into some issues. It seems that (in the US/NA at least) the "regular sized" 'new' 3DS can only be purchased as part of a package like the Animal Crossing thing that comes with the game and some funny looking covers among other things. Q: Can the "regular sized" 'new' 3DS be purchased as one piece (not part of a package) in the US/NA? Then this also got me thinking: The 'new' 3DS is pushing 2 years now and there is the chance that another revision is in the works. As a PC enthusiast it isn't too surprising that I'm a no-compromises kinda guy. Q: Should I wait for what's next? Q: Are alternatives to portable gaming worth looking into? I like the Idea of carrying around a Razer Blade, but the skew I want is pushing $2000 (not really an option) As always: I'll try to watch this thread closely and reply/ answer questions as the discussion goes on.

So I am returning for my second year studying game design and the primary programs we use are 3DS Max and UE4. Due to "travel related trauma" my motherboards second RAM slot has just given up on life and my computer wouldn't even post if I had RAM in that slot. For the past few months I've been running with 8Gb in one slot (which is fine for gaming over the summer) but in my first year I had 16Gb across the two slots. I am wondering if I need to replace my motherboard so I can use 16Gb again or would 8Gb of RAM be enough for 3D modelling and game development in UE4, Photoshop etc. I assume it would be fine, especially since I really don't want to spend £129 on a brand new identical motherboard or around the same price for a single 16Gb stick of RAM at the same speed of my 2x8Gb. Any thoughts or whatever would be appreciated, thanks!

Hello, I used to own a Nintendo 3DS that qualified as an "Ambassador" (basically you got almost all the classic games from the n64 and such for free because you paid $300 for the system). It was a cool device but I didn't really play it much...so I sold it and bought my R9 380. (I may or may not regret that decision) Now however I have a urge to play a game that was released at launch with my 3DS (which I still own): So I have been looking around and thanks to some funds I received from eBay form selling an i5-3470 I kinda want to buy another 3DS. There are all kinds of new models at caring prices but I was looking at the "new 3DS XL" and discovered this video: So apparently there is a lottery as to what kind of display you get, either IPS or TN on either or both the top and bottom displays......I was really shocked to hear this and is kinda surprising. You could pick up two of the same system and get completely different displays......which is really shitty. I haven't decided if I even want to pick one up again just for one or two games or even which model to get. But regardless of all that what do you think about the vast difference in quality of these displays and do you think it's right for Nintendo to offer such an inconsistent experience?

Please remember the Community Standards (that I hope this post abides by too) Source 1: https://github.com/Cruel/freeShop Source 2: Imgur mirror: Source 3 that is 3 paragraphs too long: https://www.engadget.com/2016/12/29/nintendo-dmca-takedown-freeshop-3ds/ And final source 4: the actual DMCA application document thing https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2016-12-27-Nintendo.md So, in order to fully understand this, you'll need some background info on the 3DS homebrew/hacking/CFW scene (skip if you know about it) if you have time, watch the video that a few of the prominent 3DS hacking developers did last year at 32c3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZczf57HSag 1h12m long though, and the current one at 33c3, which is an hour long, and I haven't watched since I'm on vacation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wogNzUypLuI basically, if you have a certain level firmware, you can do some stuffs that make it so you can install custom software/programs like a Save Backup/Injector, FTP server, and Streaming to your PC. These apps are in a ".cia" filename extension. Freeshop was one of these aps. Background on how the eShop works: when you legitimately buy something there, you get a "ticket", a jumble of hex digits, that you tell the server "hey, I have this ticket, one game please" and then you begin downloading it from the server. However, that ticket, ISN'T UNIQUE PER PERSON/TRANSACTION. It's one global ticket per game. 1 ticket, 1 game. So, if there was a way to get unauthroized access to the game files, you might be able to extract the unique key per game. And if you upload it to a website, you might be able to download the key, and download the game directly from Nintendo's servers, just as if you bought the game legally. And perhaps there is a nice GUI application right there on the 3DS that manages it all for you..... That's what FreeShop did/does. To be clear, FreeShop doesn't host the Title Keys themselves, you have to manually input it, or use a separate website that hosts them for you. FreeShop can access that website and download the keys and manage it itself and download the games from the keys. FreeShop has legitimate use, if for some reason the eShop doesn't remember that you purchased a game, then you can download it again. ===================== New info here: Nintendo said "stop hosting that program on github, here's a big fat DMCA to shut you up for good" (which, Nintendo has been very liberal with in general over the past couple of years), and Cruel, had to bend over and just take it, not really much recourse Ninty is totally in the right to do this, but why has it taken so long to do so? It's not a new hack/exploit, and patching the integral part of it would require a rework of the whole ticket system. Maybe this is more heavy handedness after the Permabans of early Pokemon Moon leak, users (which also effected people who got the game early because Amazon shipped it early or something). This doesn't stop any mirros of the .cia file from working, just that specific github release (and all(?) forks of it too) from existing. If so, then everybody that has "FBI" (a commmon 3DS hacking program) on their 'currently playing' thing, then they might be banned too. I don't know. But if this is leading to more harsh punishments on Hackers, then I'll start the popcorn machiene now, and watch /v/, /r/3DSHacks, and other forums burn up in flames and say how it isn't fair that Ninty punish Hackers with CFW (custom firmware)

I have the new model of the 3DS XL and I'm trying to purchase a custom decal, but in order to do that, I have to get the template (It's not an actual company but more of a friend). I've been looking all around the internet for such thing but its literally almost impossible. Can anyone here help me?

Hey, I have an old 3ds, I'm more of a PC guy and don't know much about Nintendo consoles. I had a PSP 3000 and installed a cfw on it for playing games off an ISO file. Can anything similar be done on 3ds?

Budget (including currency): £1700 (+/- 100) Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CAD (Solidworks), 3DS Max, ANSYS, DCS, ArmA 3, Video Editing (Vegas and Adobe Premiere). Other details: As a background, I am upgrading from the below rig: Operating System: Windows 10 Home (64-bit) CPU: Intel i7 4790k @ 4.00 GHz CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS10X Optima Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3 RAM: 24GB Corsair Vengeance (2133MHz) GPU: Asus GTX 1060 STRIX Storage (Primary): Crucial 275GB M.2 MX300 Solid State Drive Storage (Secondary): 1TB Seagate Barracuda (ST1000DM003) Optical/DVD Drive: Yes Wifi Card: Realtek 8812AE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC I am looking to upgrade now, I have two builds down below from PC Part Picker. I'm wanting to upgrade as I got this rig in 2014/2015 and I'm starting to feels its age in newer titles. I'm using 1080p monitors, but I am looking to upgrade to 1440p or even 4K in the future. AMD: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/7vrZxc A few things to note about this one. Firstly, that CPU will be changed to the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X in November. Likewise, the GPU may change to a RTX 3060, or would that be a bottleneck? I'm also worried about the MOBO, will that be fine, or is there a better one for a marginal price increase? Intel: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/67Vj4d I think I'd be stupid to go blue now given the release today. But, I made this prior to the AMD one above. Any suggestions or comments, let me know. Thanks, Jet.

I just noticed I have just over £10 on Nintendo credit thingy. Thinking the best way to spend it would be to buy a decent Gameboy-era Pokemon game (or other RPG). Which would be the best game to buy? Never played a single Pokemon game.
