Hello everyone, So it's been around 5 years that I am using this power hungry card and living in city like Mumbai (India) with humid temps ranging from 33C - 22C. After all these years the middle fan of the three is deciding to give up and has started to make rattling noise. I followed some video tutorials which included taking the fans apart and greasing/oiling the bearing. It did work and the fan stopped making noise but resumes again after a couple of days and then I have to take the fan apart and oil it again. So I was thinking of strapping 2x120mm fans to the heat sink with zip ties and I know it runs pretty well after that. (Even with good improvements) But I am confused with the whole Static vs Airflow thingy and don't understand if I am choosing the right fans. I have 2x120mm front intake, 1x120mm exhaust top with a stocky ryzen 3600 cooler (which will be replaced in some time with a Deepcool Gammax v2) Cabinet is Thermaltake Versa N27 and I have removed the HDD cages for better lower airflow. There is around 8-10cm of gap between the gpu and psu. The fan I chose: CM Sickeflow 120mm RGB which come in at 9USD approx (total of 18USD) which give 62 CFM ± 10% and run on 650-1800 RPM ± 10% I know people opt for Noctua but the only ones available here are the Noctua NF F12 industrialPPC-2000 PWM which i know are good but cost 21USD and thus 2 of these would cost 42 USD which is way more I can think of. Can anyone please tell me if I am making the right choice here? Due to global shortages. The options are really limited and the other ones I could go for are the Arctic P12 for 11USD but no warranty mentioned on amazon. There are no other options that I can probably go for which offer a good amount of airflow with higher than 1500 rpms. Thanks in advance.

Hello guys, I'm looking for help on an issue I'm having, I recently bought a Sapphire R9 390 (I don't know if it's the 390 or 390x ) 8GB graphics card (I bought it for $100 locally because I was looking for a cheap GPU while I get a RTX 3080 or 6800XT) The guy that sell me the card try it in front of me and the card worked perfectly but when I put in in my PC I doesn't work, I have no video signal of any of the ports (except for DVI I haven't tried that one because I don't have a neither a DVI cable or monitor I've tried on 2 different displays: 1. LG 34UC80-B (3440x1440) I tried both HDMI and DP and the other monitor is 2. LG 27UD58-B (3840x2160) also i tried HDMI and DP The card seems to be fine because it is warm (not hot) to the touch when the PC is turned on, the fans don't spin (I have had other triple fan cards that on idle the fans won't spin so I don't know if this is normal or if it's an issue) I have tried all of the PCI slots of my motherboard, I've tried the card on 2 of my PC's, I've tried pressing the BIOS button on the card and it lights up blue but thats it, I have tried using 1 double 8pin power conector and 2 8 pi single power cables and nothing... i don't know if the card is damaged or whats my issue so if any of you could help me i would really appreciated Here are the specs of the 2 PCs i have tried the GPU on: 1st System: CPU: Threadripper 2950X CPU Cooler: Deep Cool Castle 360 Motherboard: Gigabyte X399 Aorus Xtreme RAM: 64GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 3000MHz C15 Storage: Samsung 1TB M.2 Nvme Powe Supply: EVGA SuperNova G3 1000W 80+ Gold OS: Windows 10 Pro _________________________________ 2nd System: CPU: Threadripper 1950X CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Wraith Ripper Air Cooler Motherboard: AsRock X399 Phantom Gaming 6 RAM: 48GB Teamgroup T-Force Night Hawk 3200MHz C16 Storage: Arata 1TB M.2 Power Supply: Asus ROG Strix 850W 80+ Gold OS: Windows 10 Home

I have been using my pc for gaming for some time and it was fine. I have recently added a gt710 so I could have a second monitor. The gt710 worked fine but in game there was lots of lag because the gt710 was the default rendering GPU. There is not option in the nvidia control panel for default GPU. Any suggestions on how I can get my 390x to be the default GPU? Specs: CPU: i7 5820k Mobo: MSI X99a SLI plus GPU: powercolor r9 390x pcs+ and Gainward GT710 I have not overclocked anything other than the monitors. I would like to keep my warranty for my CPU and 390x and Mobo. I am fine with messing with the GT710

As you might expect, I was originally waiting for Vega. I'll be honest, I was expecting the Ryzen of GPUs. Then Vega got released. So now I'm looking at the possibility of replacing my r9 390x with the 1080ti. I don't have a lot of experience with Nvidia products, (you mean a GTX 1080 isn't indended for 1080p?) as the last Nvidia card I owned cost $30. So I have some questions. First of all, is it worth it? will there be a big performance increase going from 390x to 1080ti? That is the nvidia card to get right? I've been told it's a big improvement over the 1080-non-ti yet only a tiny bit weaker than the Titan XP (seriously? will they call the volta version the Titan Vista?). Can I safely assume that the GTX 1180 or whatever it will be called is still far off? Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

Hello all. since updating my gpu drivers, my sapphire 390x tri-x gives me screen freezes especially when watching videos using HPC-HC, but also tried quicktime and same issue. - with drivers 17.4.4 and 17.6.2 the screen freezes, then it shows black screen and sometimes the screen shuts down, the system then recovers only to repeat the issue few minutes later - with drivers 17.2.1 the screen freezes but it doesn't show black screen and it doesn't shut down, the system recovers and shows this in the event viewer : amdkmdap stopped responding (event 4101 display driver) - drivers 16.5.2.1 are the ones i was using and function properly i tried uninstalling using control panel and DDU from safe mode. and the results are the same with the the three drivers i also tried disabling Pci express link state power management and same problem. also the 390x is listed as 390 series in windows device manager. GPU: sapphire 390x tri-x non overclocked. CPU: I5 4690k non overclocked. Motherboard: Asus maximus VII Ranger RAM: 2 x 4g 1600 gskill ripjaws and 2 x 8g adata xpg 1866. (xmp 1600) PSU: cooler master v1200 Windows 10 anniversary update Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I'm new to the LTT forum - I did use google and the search function and did not find anything useful. I am the proud owner of an ASUS R9 390X DirectCU II. I had a few problems that could be caused by the card (game crashes and so on) and looked over at techpowerup for a newer VBIOS. I found this https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/183551/asus-r9390x-8192-151110 which is for the very similar STRIX version. Currently this (https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/173754/asus-r9390x-8192-150428) is flashed. My questions are: can I even update the VBIOS of this card and if yes, can I update it to this version? Can I go back? Could I break the card? And would it be useful if I liquid-metaled the card? (I have some lying around.) EDIT: Some specs of my PC if needed: i7 3770k @ 4,5GHz (stable) - watercooled (240mm Radiator) 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz RAM @ 1800 (stable too) Windows running off of a Samsung 840 Evo 250GB Windows 10 1809 - Fully updated AMD Driver 19.2.1 Best regards and thanks in advance Coin

Hi guys, I come to you (once again) with another temperature problem! But this time it's to do with my GPU rather than my CPU. Okay so, I have done a lot of searching around to find the solution but I have not been able to solve my problem, which is my GPU (MSI R9 390x) running at 94 degrees Celsius when playing games such as GTA V and H1Z1. It's worth noting that my GPU only gets to around 80c at most when playing DotA 2, however that game simply isn't that graphically intensive. In terms of performance, I believe the frames per second in these games have been unaffected (or as far as I can tell, I don't keep track of my FPS however I do not get any lag), however I'm just worried that running the GPU at 94c~ is going to cause damage or degrade performance over time. Not only that, but I don't really want to have it heating up my other components / the room the PC is in. Users online have suggested re-pasting the GPU which I have done (doesn't void the warranty according to MSI) just a few hours ago, and yet it still gradually reaches 94c. Other factors that could have an effect on the temperature is fan speed and case air flow, however; I use a generous fan curve (15% higher than the temp reading in Celsius at all times, for example, 60c would be 75% fan speed) My case has relatively okay air flow, considering that it is a HAF 912 Plus (HAF = High Air Flow) with a 200mm intake fan at the front, and a 120mm exhaust fan at the back) My CPU cooler is a Hyper 212 Evo with a single push fan (set up correctly, pushes air towards the exhaust). CPU doesn't get higher than 65c. Does anyone have any idea on what could be the problem? I have tried contacting MSI about it however 4 emails later I haven't gotten any useful information, just broken English confirming temps with Unigine Valley. Also, very soon I will be partitioning my SSD to do a fresh install of Windows 10 (Currently on 7) and then trying different driver versions to see if that makes a difference. Screenshot is of the MSI Afterburner window featuring GPU temps along with utilisation and memory usage whilst playing H1Z1.

Hello! I am in the market for a new monitor in the next few months, and thought this forum seems like a great place to get help. I have a few conundrums, specs for my gaming rig are in my sig, monitor model is a iiyama prolite e2773hs at the moment. 1080p/60hz/1ms/TN. So I was wondering what monitor format to upgrade to and had some thoughts that I could use reviewing/help on: RE: Size/Budget: I am using a 27" monitor and could go up to 34" perhaps. Budget is £300-400. Could go to 500 at a push. Conclusion: 27-34" + £300-400. RE: 1080p/1440p/4k. With a 390x atm, I was leaning towards 1080/1440. That said, I will likely be upgrading my graphics card in a little while. Most likely to a 1070/1080, but I might see what AMD will be offering - though I've heard 2017 is the most likely release date for their new higher end cards. Conclusion: 1080p/144hz or 1440p. By the way, does anyone know how 1440p monitors would cope with 1080p video watching? I know gaming at 1080p can be a little skewiff on the visuals due to pixels not lining up perfectly. RE: TN/IPS: Currently using a TN display, dont have a problem with it, though I have heard IPS is better. Given I play a lot of BF4 (and will be playing BF1) and other games with things flying about, would an IPS keep up given its slower response times? I don't want any blur or other effects like that if possible but if the colours are that much better I might be tempted. I have heard that backlight bleed is an issue, is this something to be worried about? Conlusion: Either. RE: G-Sync/Freesync: I have looked into this and I am scared that I might have to be locked into an ecosystem. I have a 390x but will be looking to upgrade and honestly I am tempted to switch back to nvidia... however, freesync monitors are cheaper from what I have seen. Do I gamble on AMD coming up trumps with the 490 etc and go for freesync, or shell out a little more on g-sync right now and switch to nvidia in a few months? Will g-sync have issues with my 390x till I switch? Or do I wait and upgrade my graphics card first? TL,DR: I need recommendations on a 1080p/144hz or 1440p monitor for FPS gaming, general web surfing/netflixing etc. But I also need some advice on what to do in terms of Free/G-Sync. 27"+, £300-500 max. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to give as much information as I could for people to help me. If you have any questions that you need answering to help me just ask and I'll try to answer as best I can.

Oih guys, I just started playing DOOM and tweaked a little in the settings. After changing OpenGL to Vulkan and restarting the game. it starts black and stays like that... (Maybe because of my slow FX4100... But an upgrade is on its way!) Does anyone now how to reset the settings? The directory C:\Users\"USERNAME"\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base in which I can find the DOOMConfig.cfg doesn't contain any grafical settings to reset/tweak... Maybe someone can upload the original file or something... Steam can't find anything and I don't want to reload everything of the 50GByte yet. I would be glad to be able to play further than the first level! Thanks in advance! DarkJShadow

Hello. This is my first post on here, so I just wanted to say the LTT community is great and I've been following the YouTube channel for a very long time, and I think it's going to be a great experience to be a part of the commuinty So, I want to replace my old HD7970 with something better for my new 1440p monitor. I have narrowed it down to either the R9 390 or 390X (probably the MSI models, I also considered Sapphire but they won't fit in my case). I have seen numerous comparisons of the 2 cards and the difference doesn't seem to be enough to justify the price difference (€70 where I live). However the vast majority of these comparisons were done at 1080p and I saw some people saying that at 1440p the difference is more noticeable. Is that the case? Also, multiple people brought up the argument that with the right overclock the 390 is equal in performance to a 390X, but then wouldn't I be able to overclock the 390X even more? TL;DR is the 390X worth it instead of 390 for 1440p?

i7 860 thinking about upgrading to a r9 390X
Plompy posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hey guys. I'm a huge gamer and designer, so that's what I use this rig for. I built the following rig 6 years ago and have been incrementally upgrading things as things have become outdated. I recently ran into the opportunity to acquire a XFX r9 390X for $270, but before I jump on it, will this configuration be able to utilize it well? In all my testing my CPU never seems to get maxed out (tested on Battlefield 4, ARK: Survival Evolved, and Heroes of the Storm)...but I've been out of the market for awhile so I'm rusty. My build as it currently stands is attached/linked...is upgrading to r9 390X a stupid idea?: Bonus Question: can I upgrade the CPU on this motherboard? or would that be a lost cause? Link to my build -
Hello fellas! I approach you all humbly in need of your superior knowledge whether to rma my new msi 390x or not. So I was very aware that the AMD r9 2xx/3xx series gpus were hardcore toasters in the department of temperatures. Well I ofc started playing witcher 3 and OH my god.. the temps went 60c idle to 90c in no time. fans were spinning at 100% and the gpu was fully utilized. I have a corsair 400c atx case so it can't be because of airflow as I have two 140mm noctua fans for intake air. Is there something wrong with the cooling? I can't apply a new thermal paste either because I saw a warranty void-sticker in one of the gpu screws needed to remove the shroud and the heatsink. And i've tested the gpu temps on Total war: warhammer and I ran the in-game benchmark and saw massive thermal throttling after 7 seconds i've started it. This can't be normal? Also I ran the game only with fxaa so no hefty AA's used. This card is a real wind tunnel for an aftermarket one, but I seriously think the card is faulty.

Hey everyone, I have virtually the same problem as: https://community.amd.com/thread/183574?q=390x%20black Everything is going normal, but when i try to game it crashes after 10 to 30 minutes. I get a blackscreen and a loud buzzing sound. Recently the crashes also occured while just browsing. (though very rarely) The Games that always trigger that are for me: GTA5, Skyrim (modded), CS:GO and Witcher 1 (unmodded) So far have tried reinstalling drivers, using an overdrive profile and completetly reinstall windows clean. This is my Rig: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Venoxx/saved/tC8WGX I should note that i have owned this system for a longer time with a different graphics card and never had issues. I would be most thankfull if you could help me with this problem, as it makes gaming almost impossible. Thank you in advance

I Built my PC in mid December 2015 using 6700k, 16gb DDR4, Msi R9 390X, 256gb SSD, 4tb HDD, 850w PSU. I opted to put all my hardware in a very small thermaltake urban SD 1 case that fits perfectly on a shelf below my TV however when I recently played Tomb Raider 2013 my GPU would reach 94c and stay there for the most part I also noticed FPS at sub 50 levels even jittery in one instance. I think I may need a new case that will provide better air flow and cable management so i have come here for suggestions. I would like a small case that could be moved to different rooms if required but I feel I may have to settle for something bigger than what I have due to GPU size and heat and buy a Steam Link. Ive heard the Corsair Obsidian 350D to be good matx case for air flow but are their others that are better maybe even a bit smaller?

So I recently bought a new case for my PC in order to use my old case for a server build im doing soon. Took some sweet pictures of the process. Mobile users beware, all photos are high resolution and very large, it will use a good amount of data. I am very pleased with the C70 in looks and the ease of building. It has nice cable management, and looks good. Good support for radiators, fans, storage. My PC in this case is also 10-12 lbs lighter than in the HAF 932 advanced it was in before, and the handles on top are extremely useful. The side panels latches are also very good, easy and pleasing to use. Finished: PC in old case : (some really good pictures of GPU/CPU here) Old cable management: Pics of the rebuild in progress:
