Ryzen 7 3700x @ 4.2GHz 1.1V. Is it safe?
Sinistra09 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello! I have a Ryzen 7 3700x currently running at 4.2GHz and 1.2V with an MSI B500-F Motherboard (Non-Wifi). I haven't done a lot of overclocking on this mobo and am kinda nervous to mess around with the voltage. I just wanted to ask for your guys' opinion on if it'd be safe to run my CPU at something like 1.1V or 1V. Thanks! -
Hello. I am new to this forum, and english is not my first language, so I am sorry if this is posted in wrong forum, and my language! I have recently build my first PC in about 8-9.years. I had a X79 build with 3930k CPU, 32GB memory all stock, PSU: Corsair AX760. I've upgraded to: ASUS ROG B500 -F Gaming WiFi (BIOS version 12.02 21.10.2020) AMD Ryzen 3700X Hyper X 16GB 3200Mhz CL18 memory - D.O.C.P is enabled. (thinking about upgrade 2 32GB 3200MHz CL17 or CL16 in the next months). NZXT Kraken 73 NZXT H710 M.2 NVME SSD PSU: Corsair AX760 The only thing I "re-use" is harddrive/ SSD drives and PSU from my earlier build. I tought my new PC was going to be a good build, but in Cinebench R20 I keep getting score as low as 500 - 505, in both test (Multitread and Single Core). When I seach around on the internet everyone is getting much higher multicore score. In Windows task manager I see that only 10-15% of my CPU is in use when I run Cinebench R20. I have tried different settings in Ryzen Master, and in AI Suite 3, but i don't see any difference. Can someone please help? I don't won't to overclock CPU if i don't have to, but I will get the score of a stock 3700x in Cinebench.

Hey everyone! I'm needing some help with RAM overclocking with getting the XMP profile to boot properly. I tried to find a matching set to my existing CMW32GX4M2C3200C16 kit. I picked up a CMW32GX4M2E3200C16 kit. The timing for the E kit is 16-20-20-38 and the C kit is 16-18-18-36. All I'm wanting to do is booting my system at the 3200 Mhz speed. My system is a 3700X liquid cooled on a Gigabyte B550 Vision D motherboard on the F12 BIOS. I do have an auto OC on the CPU via Ryzen Master. I'm not that skilled in manually overclocking RAM so any help is appreciated!

Hi, over the past month after swicthing from stock cooler to the Kraken M22 my temps av just been really unstable. Specs: Mobo: Asus ROG Strix x470-F Gaming CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x Alt Cpu: Ryzen 7 2700x RAM: 32GB 3200Mhz HyperX DDR4 GPU: Asus RTX 3070 Twin OC PSU: CM V750 750WATT Case: NZXT H500 AIO: Kraken M22 So the last couple of days Ive been notatting temps for diff actions and the number are pretty wired. Boot to bios and the temps read 71C Doing nothin at desktop (only with HWinfo up) and the temps read everything from 35C to 72C (not been taking an avrg from there sadly.) No actions except Google chrome and the avg temp is 70C+ Running a game like pes 2020 and the temps hit max at 90C++ Undervolting doesnt seem to help either. Turning of boost helps by an avrg of 5C Any tips?

Hi guys I have recently got my hands on a 3080, however I seem to be having problems with my fps, I was playing overwatch and noticed my fps was dipping as low as 90 during gameplay while only playing at 1080p (I will be upgrading to 1440p don't judge me XD). My specs: rtx 3080 FE GPU ryzen 3700x CPU evga Supernova 750w PSU 16Gb Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz RAM B450 Aorus Pro Motherboard I know that the CPU is not the best but I am sure that it should not impact the fps to this degree. I have noticed on games like warzone for example I am only getting around 110fps (all settings maxed). In GPU-Z I am getting PerfCap reason as Pwr although I am not entirely sure what that means. Any help would be appreciated as I don't want the hassle of sending the GPU back. Thanks in advance

Hey guys So I just finished a build for a friend of mine. It's a Ryzen 3700x paired with a Gigabyte Aorus Elite B450 motherboard. It seemed to be running fine at first, but as I was doing some more setup and installing software, I noticed that the fans would ramp up and down every 5 seconds or so. It sounded like it was running something in the background, but it was idling. I checked the base clock speeds and saw that it was jumping between 3.6 GHz and 4.5 GHz back and forth every several seconds or so. I used some programs to look at temps and monitor clock speeds, and it was showing the same thing, but temps seemed to be ok. I booted into the BIOS and decided to disable the Core Performance Boost. While in BIOS though, I noticed that CPU was running fine, fans were quiet and clock speed was holding steady at 3.6 GHz. I booted back into Windows without changing anything and got the same crazy fluctuations again. I went back into my BIOS and disabled CPB, and now everything is running fine. Clock speed is holding nice and steady within Windows, and temps are great and fans are quiet. Here's the thing though, I really don't want to disable a feature or lose performance. Not sure what could be causing the crazy fluctuations, and don't want to leave the system running like that. Could it be a result of something else? Could it be an issue with my CPU or motherboard? I built an almost identical system for myself a while back and never experienced this issue. Any suggestions or advice? I'm up to try anything really, just kinda at a loss on what to do. Thanks!

Looking to upgrade YT editing rig from r7 2700 (non-x). Couple of questions: Given the price is very similar, which is better buy: 3700x or 5600x? I know the IPC gains are huge with Zen 3 but there's still a physical core advantage w/ 3700x. 5600x seems to have similar or better multi-core performance but no personal experience with either. If it helps to know, the GPU is RTX 2070 (non super) I also looked at 5800x but have seen thermals concerns. Don't mind getting a beefy cooler but don't want to waste the money either just to generate more heat.. thoughts? Also will be looking to replace MoBo from b450 tomahawk (non Max) - would like to have best VRMs in price range for upgradeability (5900 or 5950 one day maybe?) and as much connectivity (incl 2.5GHz port) as possible - is b550 Tomahawk best option under $200?

hey everyone, I need some help here, I just got into PC gaming but I feel I'm running at subpar fps on my games at 1080p. I barely crack 80 fps in any gane I have on my pc/ Granted 80 fps isn't anything to sneeze at but for a 3070 kind of low. My laptop with a 1050 at medium settings would run this. Games at high settings can barely break the 80 fps mark. Any suggestions? Ryzen 7 3700x Asus Dual OC RTX 3070 16gb of dual channel ram at 3200

Hello, so I just built my first PC and was playing around with some settings to optimize performance and all of that. I have a 3700x with a ASUS ROG Strix B550-F (Wifi), with idle temps around 38 to 45C. I wanted to know if I should leave it at boost mode or if this more aggressive custom fan curve would be better. Also, I would like to know if those idle temps are good for the 3700x, thanks!! Notes: - the idle temps listed are with an OC on the CPU of 4000MHz, in the boost fan curve, not the custom one. - These temps are in a sort of open environment, since my case hasn't arrived yet. So it isn't in a case, but rather in a cardboard enclosure that I made with a medium size fan pointed directly at it. Edit: The cooler is the stock AMD Prism cooler that comes with the 3700x.

I recently received my new 3080 after many months of waiting in queue but unfortunately am experiencing some pretty poor frame rates in Warzone. In fact, my old 5700XT paired with my 3700X was getting around 120-130fps at 1440p, but with my 3080 I'm getting 120fps max, usually around 110fps. I have noticed that GPU utilisation sits at around 75% in-game, but some areas such as when you enter the gulag it ramps up to 100% and I see frame rates temporarily boost to around 160fps, which is what I'd expect from a 3080. My CPU hangs at around 60% utilisation as well, there's seemingly no issues when I observe the logical cores. Things I've tried with no luck: Editing the adv_options file for the game, which many tutorials suggest Wiping and reinstalling GPU drivers Double checking RAM is dual channel and running adequately (this is 3600MHz) Reinstalling the game entirely Tested other games, they run fine Fiddling with all in-game settings, there's no difference in frame rate between low or max with RTX on Setting PC power mode to high performance Anyone else having these issues? I raised a ticket with Nvidia but they've been absolutely useless and just tell me to change meaningless settings in Nvidia control panel. I posted on an Nvidia forum and several people replied to say I have a CPU bottleneck, but I'm stumped as to how an 8 core CPU can't handle this game? I know it's not the latest gen CPU but surely a 3700X is still capable? Not really sure what else I can do, or whether it's just an issue with the game I have no control over.

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a new RTX 3070 Asus Dual OC, upgrading from a RTX 2060 ko. After upgrading, my FPS on Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5 barely increased. On every low setting, I am getting 220 average fps, and on medium I am getting 190 average fps at 1080p. Here is my system: ryzen 7 3700x @ 50 - 52 C | 4275Mhz | 40% usage RTX 3070 Asus Dual OC @ 60 - 62 C | 1905Mhz | 70% usage Corsair a500 air cooler msi b450 tomahawk max 32gb (2 x 16) ddr4 3200mhz corsair lpx vengeance ram in dual channel 700 watt 80+ gold EVGA PSU Crucial MX500 1tb SSD Nvidia Driver: 461.09 Released 1/07/21 For the following numbers, I used MSI afterburner to record FPS numbers in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5. ALL LOW SETTINGS: 24-01-2021, 21:45:49 FortniteClient-Win64-Shipping.exe benchmark completed, 111113 frames rendered in 496.532 s Average framerate : 223.7 FPS Minimum framerate : 114.7 FPS Maximum framerate : 286.1 FPS 1% low framerate : 139.2 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 47.9 FPS ALL MEDIUM SETTINGS (also changed view distance to Epic, everything else medium): 24-01-2021, 21:51:18 FortniteClient-Win64-Shipping.exe benchmark completed, 32743 frames rendered in 172.109 s Average framerate : 190.2 FPS Minimum framerate : 88.8 FPS Maximum framerate : 238.8 FPS 1% low framerate : 122.2 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 46.4 FPS These results are very consistent across multiple runs, multiple days, both on DirectX 11 and DirectX 12. I am on the latest Nvidia Drivers, and I used DDU to do a clean install of Nvidia drivers after upgrading from my RTX 2060 ko. I have Wallpaper Engine OFF, and virtualization (in my bios) OFF (it's worse with both of them on). What I've tried I've tried to turn XMP on and off for my RAM, going from 2133mmhz to 3200mmhz, and on 2133mmhz the FPS is really bad (around 200 on low). I've tried turning on and off "prefer maximum performance" in Nvidia Control Panel. I've tried turning on and off "Allow Multithreaded Rendering" in the Fortnite settings. The best performance I've gotten is 220 fps on all low settings with 1) XMP ON 2) prefer maximum performance ON 3) allow multithreaded rendering ON I'm really not sure what the issue is because I see other people getting 400-500fps with these pc parts and settings. I've run Geekbench for testing and here are my results with my RAM set to 3200mhz. I've also run Firestrike time spy and here are my results with my RAM set to 3200mhz. I've also run Unigine Superposition on 1080p Extreme with my RAM set to 3200mhz People with similar systems are scoring 25% higher than me as seen here on Unigine. If you've made it this far, I appreciate you reading this post and trying to help me out. Thank you all

Hi. I am thinking about upgrading the RAM and CPU in my computer. I have 32GB of RAM, but I thinking about getting 64GB of RAM. (The 32gb kit I have now, does not longer being sold) 32GB is enough today, but I use around 24GB or more everyday, so I want to have some more to go on. Then my first question comes: Should I go for a kit of 32GB x 2 stick (Dual Rank) or 2x kit of 2x16GB (Single rank). The kit of 2x 32GB dual rank is 25$ USD more expensive than if i go for 16x2 kit x2. Is it safe to buy 2 kits of 32gb ram in the same shop from the same company? and will it work with 4 ram on 3700x or 5900x at the 3600mhz speed? Link to the ram that I am thinking about: https://www.kingstonmemoryshop.co.uk/kingston-fury-beast-kf436c18bbk2-64-64gb-32gb-x2-ddr4-3600mhz-non-ecc-memory-ram-dimm?keyword=beast&description=1 (I am living in Norway so I gonna buy it from a local store here). And the second question: I am thinking about upgrading my CPU from a AMD 3700x to a AMD 5900x, is it worth it? The price for 5900x is around 500$ USD. I am gaming a little, and other than that "normal use", but I want to "future" proof my PC for a couple of years. Yes I know AM5 and Alder lake is coming, but I don't wanna go down that road in 2022. Specs for my PC right now is: MB: Asus ROG Strix B-550 F WiFi CPU: AMD 3700x Cooler: NZXT X73 paired with 3 Noctua NF-A12x25 as intake in front of my case. Ram: 32GB (2x16GB 3600mhz CL18 https://www.kingstonmemoryshop.co.uk/hyperx-fury-rgb-hx436c18fb4ak2-32-32gb-16gb-x2-ddr4-3600mhz-non-ecc-memory-ram-dimm ) GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 ROG Strix OC (consider to upgrade to 6800 XT/ 6900 XT or 3080/ 3080ti. AMD card are a little cheaper and more easy to find). Storage: 2.NVME Kingston A2000 (system on 500GB and games on 1.tb), 2xSSD and 2x 4TB HDD. Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow Fans: 6x Noctua NF-A 12x25 (3 as intake and 3 as exhaust 2.in top and 1 in the back).

The problem started a couple days ago, where my games began to feel slow. So today I checked CAM and my CPU was at 98 degrees with 0.5 GHz speed. I have cleaned out the cooler and applied new thermal paste and the cpu now sits at 75-100 degrees idle, and i opened a chrome tab to type out this question and it got to 114 degrees and crashed. Ive got no Idea what could be causing it or how to fix it. Ive got a 3700X… have never had a problem with it until now. *When I boot the computer up it comes up with this message: “The exception unknown software exception (0xe0434352) occurred in the application at location 0x00007FFF6CEF4F99” *EDIT* Ive had the PC with no problems since January, the problem only started in the last couple days*

Hi all- I currently have an AMD Ryzen 3700X with an ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports CPU cooler. Its been a decent CPU cooler over the past few years since I made the system but just recently the fan decided to spin itself to death and now I had two choices, either buy a new fan or just get a new CPU cooler. I've always wanted to try liquid cooling in a system and the Corsair iCUE H100i ELITE CAPELLIX cooler caught my attention. I already have a corsair case and memory so I would like the CPU cooler to also match. If someone has a better cooler in mind let me know but I want it to match with the Corsair ecosystem that I've invested in. The case I have now is a Corsair 220T AirFlow and so it says it supports 360mm coolers but it looks like it is going to be an extremely tight fit so I think I would rather stick to 240mm. I am not overclocking the system at all so I don't need a lot of overhead. Thanks for everyone who responds advice.

Cooling and temps for my PC, I think "idle" temp is a little high. Ambient is around 25-28C. CPU: Ryzen 3700x Cooler: Kraken X73 - Rad in front Thermal Paste: what Kraken X73 comes with. GPU: ROG Strix 3060 OC Fans: Total of 6 Noctua NF-A 12x25 in following config 3 intake in front in pull config on the rad. 3 exhaust with config 2 in top and 1 in the back. Case: 4000D Airflow PSU: Corsair AX760, bought in Nov 2017 In Ryzen master my CPU temps is between 35 - 40C when using Chrome, and it goes up to 65C in 10.min test with Cinebench R23. I think under load the temp is OK, but is Idle temp between 35-40C normal? Also, peak speed is between 39755 - 4002 MHz under the 10.min test in Cinebench R23, is this OK? As you can see, Ryzen master is using it's "Default mode".

Hi all! It's been about half a years since i upgraded from a Ryzen 1600X to a 3700X on the same Crosshair VI, and it's kept on giving me issues during post. It sometimes stays stuck on post code "8" (not "08") for which I can't find anything in the manual. This usually happens when I enter the bios and reset the system afterwards. Usually turning off the PSU for a minute, then powering it back on and pressing the reset button a few times fixes it. Anyone else having these issues? Or is using this mobo and cpu without issues? Could it be a faulty cpu? Since the 1600X was working flawlessly Thanks for any reply/help!

Hi, I recently built my pc and I noticed very high temps on my stock Wraith Prism (80 Degrees and thermal throttling is constantly occurring). I want to switch it out for an aftermarket cooler, the ML240L V2 from Cooler Master, but everywhere I look, it seems like this AIO doesn't do a good job, as the temps are usually stated as 66 degrees Celsius. My other option is a Noctua NH-U12S, but I don't want to go with this because It would stand out like a sore-ass thumb thanks to Noctua's $20 CAD Black paint finish (which I can't afford). If you have this CPU and this cooler, please leave a review of it. If you have any suggestions for other coolers it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! I really hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, or if I'm missing something...? My 3700X will never ever go above 3500MHz.. I have PBO turned on and below is my Ryzen master during using CineBench R23 multi-core benchmark for around 20 minutes Using 32GB 3600MHz G.skill Trident Neo DDR4 and have matched fabric clock to 1800MHz (xmp on) Gigabyte Aorus X570 Pro with F33e bios from a few months ago What am I missing? I've scoured the web but can only find people saying they can't boost above 4.2GHz etc.. I know 4.4GHz is for single core boost but I never see ANY boosting. Single core does not even boost over 3500mhz Computer Type: Desktop GPU: Nvidia 2080 Super CPU: RYZEN 7 3700X 8 CORE 16 THREADS Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro BIOS Version: F33e RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident-Z Neo 3600MHZ CL16 Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 10 PRO 20H2 GPU Drivers: 466.27 Description of Original Problem: CPU won't boost Any help appreciated. Motherboard Suggestions will be nice (£200 GBP aroundish can go higher if needed - planning on upgrading to 5000s in future) CPU:3700x Motherboard: MSI MPG x570 Gaming Edge Wifi (Known to run hot, got it for like £60 of a friend who never used it tho). Hello, today I was just playing some games while watching netlix and my computer suddenly black screens, I looked inside the computer case and noticed that on my motherboard in the EZ Debug LEDS that the CPU was lit meaning it isn't detecting or it is dead (something a long those lines). At first I thought it might of Overheated but normally there is a Blue screen for that (I think). I left it to cool down and tried it about 10 minutes later and still nothing, just the Red LED, then I started to think if the mobo is dead or the socket at least as all fans are moving, gpu fans are on, (also chipset fan). I moved my CPU to my second PC to see if it was the CPU or mobo and it worked fine on my 2nd pc. I went back my main put it back in (reset bios/cmos as well) and still nothing. Is this due to a dead Socket? or could it be something else? If it is the motherboard and it has died, any recommendations? I can spend around £200 (GBP)(can go a bit higher if needed) Any information will help, if I am wrong about something please say as learning about these problems are very interesting to me. Edit: Also the case power buttons do not work (power button and cold restart).

Hi all, Trying to decide whether I should get the 3700x or 5600x with my priority use being video editing (I will be using it for gaming and streaming too but editing is Priority 1 as it's how I earn my living). A lot of sites and videos only talk about the render/encoding time differences and seemingly no one mentions what the differences are when actually using the programs with the different CPUs. The render time differences appear minimal and won't make as much difference to me compared to what it's like using PremPro or AE, like scrubbing through footage with heavy effects applied, or booting up and using After Effects with Premiere Pro running in the background (like if I replaced a clip in my PremPro timeline with an After Effects composition, something I do a lot to do things like make keyframe animations much better). If it helps, my other components for the PC are as follows: GPU - EVGA RTX 2060 XC CASE - NZXT H510 RAM - 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4 - 3600 MHz - 2x16GB PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G5 SSD - Samsung 980 PRO 500GB PCIe 4.0 M.2 HDD - Seagate BarraCuda 4 TB Motherboard - ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) I appreciate any help with this. Cheers!
