Because modern Android pissed me off for quite some time, I went back to using Android 7.1 on the HTC ONE M8. It made me realize how great Android used to be until they started ruining Android with Android 9 making call recording nearly impossible. Android 10 then introduced scoped storage which was a royal pain in the ass! Android 12 finally killed Android for good by introducing the PhantomProcessKiller, which makes it impossible to avoid scoped storage by making it impossible to run any Android VMs or do really, anything with your device. That and the fact that the Pixel 7 Pro could not run Yuzu in a vain attempt to make up for all these negative changes made me want to go back to older devices. However, based on advice from @OhioYJ, I rooted my Pixel 7 Pro and installed a Magisk module that disables the terrible PhantomProcessKiller that was introduced into Android 12 without any announcement or warning! It infamously made VM apps made for running older versions of Android completely incompatible (the VMs would run for a few minutes, and then freeze up). It also made Termux users mad as well. Fortunately, with this disabled, I have regained so much functionality already and can already run an Android 4.4 VM with support for Flash! But we are not done. There are still two more things we need to do before my phone will be in fully working order. These are technically optional, as VMs can now run again with no issues, but I would still like to use modern Android with everything that originally made Android great to begin with. The two things I want to address are 32-bit compatibility and scoped storage. While I can now work around these by running an older version of Android inside a VM, I would still prefer to not have to use VMs for these. So what do I do next to make scoped storage history and bring back 32-bit support? With those things fixed, the only thing missing is the ability to run Yuzu, but with this phone's Mali GPU, that is not happening even with root access. However, all of this should make up for my inability to run Yuzu. And thanks @OhioYJ for recommending me to use root access on modern Android to fix its faults!

Mobile SoCs have been 64-bit-only for OS for a long time now. What that meant was that they can only run a 64-bit host OS, so no more 32-bit version of Android. Good riddance, we did not need 32-bit OSes in even the late 2010s. Unfortunately, Qualcomm (and others) may have went a step too far. 2024 mobile SoCs will not even be able to run 32-bit apps, which is a massive problem! People bought Android devices because they can run legacy software on the go (to a certain extent), either natively (old Android apps) or through emulation. That means that if I upgrade to the Red Magic 8S Pro, it will be my last smartphone. Normally I would be apprehensive about buying a new phone, and suspicious of whether it would last me, but that is not true anymore. There is no upgrade path from the Red Magic 8S Pro that exists in the same form factor. Future phones will not be able to run legacy software that was the reason I even still use Android. Due to that, 2022 flagship smartphones will definitely last for years until something way better comes along. https://www.xda-developers.com/arm-future-chips-32-bit-2023/ https://www.tomsguide.com/news/snapdragon-8-gen-3 https://www.sammobile.com/news/exynos-2400-specs-10-core-cpu-2x-gpu-rdna-2/ Will an emulator be made to fix this glaring issue? Or will there be another SoC that retains legacy software support and still remain competitive? Until something like that appears, there is no upgrade path. New Android phones will not interest me in the slightest, and any performance improvement gained by new SoCs are nullified by their lack of ability to run legacy software.

I'm setting up an old laptop and have installed that last 32-bit Ubuntu release, 18.04, on it. I need to get it's Wi-Fi working but can't seem to compile or install the driver for it. The laptop is an old Acer Aspire One D250 and I tried downloading the Wireless LAN Driver for it from the manufactures website here but it seems to be for an ACHENT kerel version. I said screw it and tried to compile the driver anyways but it failed for obvious reasons. Seeing the folder containing the files was named "compat-wireless" I did an internet search for that and found this page leading me to the Driver Backports Wiki and I'm just confused now. Clearly I'm on the right path but I'm missing something, can anyone point me to the drivers I need or inform me on what I'm missing?

I am having a problem running sudo apt-get update on my 32-bit instillation of Antix 19.3. When I run the command and just "yes" my way through the prompts some things will update but some stuff will fail in ways that I'm seemingly not able to fix. I'm uncertain exactly what's going wrong and I was up until 2 AM last night searching the internet for possible causes and solutions with no luck. I'm guessing my knowledge is to limited to fully understand the error and thus I can't diagnose the issue. I am uncertin where the log's are kept so I just lazily copied and pasted my terminal window below: $ sudo apt-get update [sudo] password for HeroRareheart: Get:1 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports InRelease [46.7 kB] Get:2 http://debian.mirror.globo.tech/debian buster-updates InRelease [51.9 kB] Hit:3 http://security.debian.org buster/updates InRelease Hit:4 http://debian.mirror.globo.tech/debian buster InRelease Ign:5 http://debian.mirror.globo.tech/debian/buster main InRelease Err:6 http://debian.mirror.globo.tech/debian/buster main Release 404 Not Found [IP: 74.120.223.25 80] Get:7 https://mirror.freedif.org/MXLinux/repo/antix/buster buster InRelease [27.4 kB] Err:7 https://mirror.freedif.org/MXLinux/repo/antix/buster buster InRelease The following signatures were invalid: EXPKEYSIG DB36CDF3452F0C20 antiX (antix repo) <repo@antixlinux.com> Reading package lists... Done E: The repository 'http://debian.mirror.globo.tech/debian/buster main Release' does not have a Release file. N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details. W: GPG error: https://mirror.freedif.org/MXLinux/repo/antix/buster buster InRelease: The following signatures were invalid: EXPKEYSIG DB36CDF3452F0C20 antiX (antix repo) <repo@antixlinux.com> E: The repository 'https://mirror.freedif.org/MXLinux/repo/antix/buster buster InRelease' is not signed. N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details. I can clearly see a 404 error, an invalid signature error, an error claiming a repository does not have a release file, and an error claiming something I tried to update was unsigned. I know what a 404 error is, so I assume this means some connection I need to be making is failing somehow. I have heard the term signing code before but I do not understand exactly what the is or how it works, I think it's some sort of security check to make sure code is safe but again I do not know enough about it. I was able to find this article on a similar repository does not have a Release file error and upon trying to go to the repository using my browser I got a 404 error. I then tried just http://debian.mirror.globo.tech/debian and that worked fine, it appears that the 404 error was caused by the total lack of a buster folder within the Debian folder. Upon visiting the repository giving me the invalid signature error there were no files in it, just two folders. Upon navigating deeper it looks like the url needs to be https://mirror.freedif.org/MXLinux/repo/antix/buster/dists/buster/ not https://mirror.freedif.org/MXLinux/repo/antix/buster/. All this said I do not know if I am correct and I do not know where to even begin with fixing this. Any and all help appreciated.

With all the news that came out of Apple's WWDC this week, I haven't seen too much mentioned about iOS 11 yet. With the release of iOS 11 though, Apple is doing away with their support for the older 32-bit only processors on the iPhones and iPads, meaning that only the iPhone 5S and later devices will be able to receive this update. This also means that Apps running only in 32-bit mode will not be available in the iOS 11 App Store. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-40172019 https://arstechnica.com/apple/2017/06/goodbye-32-bit-ios-11-ends-support-for-the-iphone-5-and-the-ipad-4/ Some other iOS 11 improvements include: iMessage: redesigned app drawer for iMesage apps and stickers, automatically sync messages to iCloud, Apple Pay integration to pay people through iMessage and use TouchID to confirm payments. Siri: On-device learning about user pertinent features, translation beta, male voice option. Photos & Memories: Better low-light photos, machine learning to identify 'memories' HomeKit & Control Center: added speaker category to HomeKit to control smart speakers using AirPlay 2, Multi-Room Audio Support Maps & Carplay: Apple Maps has detailed floorplans & directories for malls and detailed airport information, maps will show speed limits and lane guidance, Do Not Disturb while Driving Mode Apple Music: Social feature to see what friends are listening to, MusicKit API to build Apple Music into Apps. App Store: Today tab for popular apps on a daily basis, new overhauled look with larger images, shorter app review time for developers, phased release of apps by developers. https://arstechnica.com/apple/2017/06/ios-11-will-bring-big-updates-to-siri-imessages-apple-pay-and-more/ Overall, these seem like good incremental improvements to iOS, however I think that the direction of dropping support for 32-bit will definitely have an impact and will probably make the 64-bit apps run a lot faster. Not sure if this will require them to boost the on board RAM of future iOS devices and if some of the older supported iOS devices will have RAM limitations issues in the future, but it still seems like a good move in the long run...

My Alienware 13R3's RGB music plugin doesn't support 64-bit iTunes, so I thought about installing the 32-bit version to make it work. However, I have a library of over 9,000 songs, and since I'll be stuck with 2GB of memory in 32-bit mode, I'm worried about performance. Will there be a significant difference in performance? Regards, Aereldor.

With all the news about AMD, Nvidia, and intel, it is easy to miss the release of Creative's Sound BlasterX AE-5. In this age of "good enough" sound quality that comes with most motherboards, you might think there's no longer a place for this. That's why this Creative has opted to step up its game by adding.... RGB features in Sound BlasterX AE-5! Oh, did I mention it does come with a backplate as well? There is also a "Pure" edition that comes with four LED strips but isn't out yet - For only $150 you get - Industry Leading Audio Processing Updated, refined and perfected through years of being the clear leader in the sound processing field, the AE-5 is featured packed with the latest and greatest version of our award winning audio processing effects and algorithms that improves your music, movie and gaming experience along with crystal clear vocal reproduction and in-game voice communication enhancements that are always imitated but never duplicated Hi-resolution gaming DAC Plays up to 32-bit, 384 KHz high resolution pristine audio with SABRE-class DAC with 122dB dynamic range that satisfies the most demanding needs of pro-gamers and pro-audio users (More resolution means more room for audio processing for compromise signal quality) Xamp, Our custom-designed discrete headphone amplifier A custom-designed, dual-amp headphone amplifier built using discrete components capable of driving studio class headphones of up to 600 ohms Source: Creative.com, Newegg.com Heck the RGB alone is worth $150! I'm joking, but this is nice to have. The rest of the features like sound quality and options are just a bonuses from the RGB card. But come on, honestly, for $150 you get support for 32-bit/384KHz audio, amp that can power 16-600ohm headphones, 7.1 channels, optical out, and RGB. Add it now to your Holiday PC Build list! The only thing I don't like about this card is that they printed "PRO-GAMING" on it in all-caps. I bet this would only cost $100 if it wasn't for "PRO-GAMING". Here's a review from PC World and Tech of Tomorrow -

Hi all, i'm writing a small program for my workplace. I want to be able to monitor the CPU and Memory usage of a remote system. Here's the tricky part. Basically, i get the total system memory of the remote system by using for /f "tokens=2 delims==" %%f in ('wmic /node:%PCName% os get totalphysical /value ^| find "="') do set "TotalMemory=%%f" which returns a value greater than what batch can handle. I then get the free memory of the system and subtract the two in order to find how much memory is being used. I then divide it by 1024 in order to get to MB and GB and percent being used. Is there any way i can do the calculation without running into this limitation?

So I build myself a nice $600CAD computer a few weeks ago and I am having a few problems with it (see literally every other post I have) and now I have found a new problem. yay. When I check tesk manager, I see that steam and discord are both running 32-bit. I am definately running windows 10 64-bit on a R3 2200G 64-bit cpu so how come both of these kind of important programs are running at 64-bit? Update: RESOLVED

Hello, I built yesterday a new PC for my parents. I copied all important data to the PC and almost everything works as expected. The only file that causes headaches is a Microsoft Office .mdb file in 32-bit which I can't open in Access 64-bit. My parents use that DB as member management tool and got it from their predecessor. I haven't really used Access and couldn't find anything 'simple' with google that works. How can I convert the mdb-File into 64-bit? I guess uninstalling Office (64-bit) and reinstalling (32-bit) would be an option, but that would affect Word, Excel and so on aswell...

Hi, I have an old iPad first generation, and I was planning on doing an experiment with it, would it be possible to run a version of Windows on it? I heard that Windows 10 now has the ability to run on ARM CPU's now, and I was thinking that I could maybe get windows to possibly install so I could do some file management around the house (I'd use a phone, but I am a poor, poor boy.) This is just for experimenting purposes.

Hi guys, back again for some more info, as you seem to be the most knowledgeable forum on the webs! So I have an old netbook with an atom n270 (I think). Either way it's a 32-bit chip with legacy bios only. Got 3 OS's on it (2 Linux and windows 10 for if I need it) but I had to use an extended partition for the 3rd. Was doing some research into MBR and GPT. So my question is, do you reckon I could boot using GPT (I know windows wouldn't boot from it, but I'm getting a decent laptop soon so that doesn't matter to me) on a 32-bit legacy system, I know 32-bit isn't an issue but does GPT require a UEFI system? The only info I can find is for 32-bit UEFI systems so am a bit stuck. TIA!

Hi all. I told my dad that I would fix up his old Windows Vista laptop with Windows 7 so he could play some games in case his failing HP laptop dies on him. I have installed his games but he asked me to get Minecraft working for my little sister if she has friends over so my dad can still play his games at the same time. I have gotten the install working but in Minecraft once I click play on the launcher screen, it launches and then brings up a new window. It stays black and does nothing. I'm not sure if it has something to do with 32-bit Windows being installed (the laptop's processor is only a 32-bit processor) but it also hasn't been updated by Windows Update either. Please, someone, I'm lost as to how to fix this. My dad would like the laptop back soon as well.

Hi all, just wanted to know if there is a speed difference and by how much there is between running a 32-Bit OS and a 64-Bit OS (Windows 7) Say the CPU is an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

I was wondering, are 32-Bit CPU's still in sale? Any shops where these can be bought.

Greetings. I've been looking to build a budget gaming PC and have already bought all of my parts besides the case, motherboard, and power supply. The system incorporates the following- An Intel Core i3-4160 An MSI GTX 960 2GB OC 8 GB of 1600 MHZ Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 RAM A WD Caviar Blue 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive I was planning on buying a B85 board, but all of the boards I've looked at (The Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H, the Gigabyte B85M-DS3H-A, and the ASRock B85M) all have a 32-bit operating system limit, which is said to display a maximum of 4GB of physical memory, regardless of how much you have installed. Do all B85 motherboards have a 32-bit OS limit? If so, is there an actual limit on the amount of ram used, or just on the amount displayed by the OS? And considering all this, should I just take the plunge and get an H97 board instead? Thanks, Aereldor.

I have recently upgraded a Dell XPS 420 with a new GPU (EVGA GTX 760) and PSU (Corsair CX750W). These components appear to be working flawlessly, however, the computer is running Windows Vista 32-bit with 4GB of RAM. When playing video games the game would eventually crash. Naturally one would presume this to be the RAM causing this issue, but I have a friend who did a similar upgrade a few years ago with the only difference in his system being the 64-bit OS and his 4GB of RAM does not seem to limit his performance. Would upgrading to a 64-bit OS help or do I need to increase the amount of system memory? (I would rather not upgrade the RAM as the motherboard only supports DDR2 RAM). Thanks.
