If I were in a situation where I could buy a gen3 2tb m2 ssd or a gen4 one, is there any reason not to get the gen4 ssd? It will work on my motherboard but just be throttled until I upgrade to a motherboard with a gen4 slot right? (I have an asrock B450M Steel Legend)

Hi all! I have a pretty old Western Digital 2TB HDD (WD20EARX). I bought it in 2011, so it's now 11 years old. Hard Disk Sentinel shows its health is somehow still at 100%, despite it being used so much, for so long. For comparison, my main system SSD, which has a power on time of 16x less than the HDD, already has health of 86%. Screenshot here. Can the 100% health reading for the old HDD really be trusted? This thing is well into the age category of "generally the time HDDs fail". Should I just go ahead and ignore the reading and replace the thing before I lose data? I don't wanna get a replacement unnecessarily. Thanks in advance for any advice provided. :)

As the title states one of my 4TB drives only registers 2TB and I have no clue why. I have already tried to reformat it and change it from MBR to GPT but none of these things seems to solve the problem. I'll post a picture of the drive label and the information on the drive given to my by Seatools, the same information and results were given by CrystalDiskInfo. Any help finding out what is going wrong here is greatly appreciated.

I've been looking at drives, and noticed (a while ago) that a lot of them have cache, which as far as I understand is kind of like cracked storage that runs out over time, but I also heard that the 2tb 980 pro is supposed to be faster than the 1tb, but according to pcpartpicker it has no cache, does it not have/accept any? Or something else? also, according to this link the 980 pro is kind of cracked https://thepcenthusiast.com/review-samsung-980-pro-2tb-vs-wd-black-sn850-2tb/ so why does it have/say it has no cache

Hi!!! I own a Ps4 Pro (1TB), which I bought in November 2019. I now have no free-space to add new games. I purchase approximately 6-7 games each year. Should I buy a 2 TB hard-drive or a 4TB one (The difference in the price is about 20-30$)? ***I don’t want to buy a new hard drive for the next 3-4 years*** ***Seagate hard drive***

im planning to buy a sata ssd for game drive. these drive have a similar prices in my country. but i confused because the samsung one gave far more TBW endurance than mx500. what is your opinion? which one should I choose?
-
i already have a crucial mx500 SSD as a bootdrive. and I have a 2tb hard drive for games. is this ssd good enough for games? will the games load significantly faster than a hard drive? i know that SSDs are significantly faster than hard drives but I remember that Linus said that dram less SSDs are slower than harddrives or something like that. I might've misremembered it though. i intend to relocate the 2tb hdd to another pc and resell it. should i just get a 4tb hdd for almost the same price or get this DRAM-less ssd?

WD BLUE SSD 2 TB, it has about 800 GB of files. Suddenly while doing nothing more than viewing a YouTube video and deciding to save it the SSD disappeared! It does not seem to be visible on Windows nor the BIOS. I've disconnected/reconnected both the data cable and power several times and rebooted the computer. God, please anyone, please help me get this back? A tool on WD's website called Dashboard when I run it, it just crashes and no other tools are on the WD website for my needs. Help?

Hi all, I am looking to get a new 2TB NVMe SSD with a heatsink that wont break the bank. I was contemplating buying second hand, but I don't know if that is a good idea? This is for a secondary PC so nothing of real importance will be stored on it. Mostly just to store game files. I would like the SSD to be reliable still however, but in the event that the SSD did die, it would not be the end of the world. I like the Samsung 980 Pro with the heatsink but that $250 price tag is just too high to justify for a secondary PC. Let me know if you guys have any good advice!

Hi all, Just bought and installed my first proper SSD. A 2tb Crucial MX500. It's speeds are almost identical to the competing Samsung SATA SSDs. I just wanted to say that even if you can only afford a 120GB SSD (which can be has for around £25/$30 on Amazon). DO IT Everything seems a million times faster and more responsive and there are thousands of great guides (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMo8krAJd5Q&t=171s including this one from NCIX tech tips starring our almighty overlord) which show you how to make the swap from HDD to SSD

Hi everyone, The title says it all pretty much. I currently have a Western Digital WD Green WD20EARX 2TB in my system and looking to backup that drive because I'm planing to upgrade to Windows 10. I will be using an SSD for Windows 10 and using the current HDD for everything else, but I want and need to backup the contents on that HDD before doing the Windows 10 installation. *One thing I had in mind was if I go with the WD Blue I could use that as my primary storage along with the current WD Green because if I'm correct, the WD Blue performs better. I look forward to your advice and insight. Thanks!

Last year I built my first PC. Asus Z170-A MB 16GB DDR4 3000 RAM 1TB SSD for my OS In a Corsair 760T case After watching video after video on building a PC, pulled the trigger and built my own. I had this crazy idea I'd attach some HDD's into a RAID back in the day and I set it to RAID in the UEFI before installing Windows 10. With the case having 2.5 drive caddy's - would I be out of my mind to think two Seagate Barracuda ST2000LM015 in RAID 0 would work? I have no idea what to look for in product details to see if this can do RAID(if there are any limitations for HDD and/or using "laptop" drives, I dunno) My initial thoughts were some WD20EZRZ WD Blues, I saw the 2TB drives are set at 5400 RPM and saw the Barracudas are the same - why I thought it might be do-able. Currently have the 3.5 drive bays out of the case, to show off the room with that acrylic window and all. My plan is that this is going to tide me over until I build a NAS - probably by the end of the year. Thanks

hey! ok, im super panicked...and dont know what to do except crying...i seek help...desperately recently i cut-pasted all of my data and pics on my external lenovo external hard drive... the HD is 2TB..my data there is like 1.5TB..kindly note the data has some very important family pictures and some very important backup projects.. so just today.. i connected my HD to my laptop to get some setup and stuff from it (laptop was 100% clean...cut-pasted) like skype setup and other initial stuff.. i scanned the disk for viruses..u know...just to be careful...the scan was complete and everything was fine... BUT later...a dialog box prompt and said to scan and repair the drive...i was like "k...lemme scan...dont want to be risky on my drive" the scan said there were some ERRORS in the drive...it said it may lead to future LOSS of data and other scary stuff...i pressed the REPAIR button,,,when it was completed..my drive had its same label but was NTFS and unaccessible... i plugged it in 2 of my laptops...same thing... i know formatting would make the drive ok again,..BUT what about my data? pls help me....

Hello there, I recently purchased a new pc and everything is working fine, except for one thing. I'm using this hard drive. After assigning it to a volume this happens. (It's Dutch but I hope you guys understand it.) I don't get why I can't assign the other 746GB to a volume. Could someone help me out please? Edit: This is my set-up.

Hi I have an MSI GS63VR laptop. it came with a 256gb PCIE ssd and a 1tb 7200rpm hdd. I want to purchase a 1tb Samsung NVME ssd for the boot drive, and I will be getting a 850 evo 2tb drive for mass storage and games etc. My question is if I rip out the original boot drive and do a fresh Windows 10 install, do I need to download all the drivers for the video card, thunderbolt port, speakers basically every single driver? Or even if I get new ssd's for both sockets will any of the correct drivers still be there? Sorry if this is an easy question, I'm getting more knowledgeable with gaming computers but drivers and upgrading ssd's is confusing me on all what I need to do after the drives are switched. If it matters it has a i7 6700hq, gtx 1060, hdmi 2.0 port, displayport 1.2, thunderbolt 3 port, 3 usb 3's, 1 usb 2, and 1 mic and 1 headphone jack. Any help would be AMAZING!!!! Just don't want to rip out the original stuff until I know I wont screw my pc totally. Thanks everyone!

Recently I had to reinstall windows because my copy was becoming unstable and unusable and after doing the install my 2tb hdd decided to be difficult and after rebooting it said the windows was scanning and repairing my E drive (I have windows on my ssd) so I let it fix it or whatever and then once it finally booted into windows I saw my E drive was not usable and saw in disk manager that it had been put into raw file type and so I tried a quick format but that failed so I though why not do a full format it shouldnt take more than like 5 hours for a sata drive but now I just passed the 48 hour mark and am wondering if the drive has just failed or if I should still give it time. Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hello there. So a few months back I got this server, an Intel 1600URHSR from eBay, with plans to build a machine that would double as a decent render box for Adobe Media Encoder and a NAS for mass storage of video files. I came here looking for help because I couldn't get Windows Server 2008 R2 installed on any machine with that motherboard (Intel S5520UR); I ended up getting a different Server 2008 R2 disk from someone working in IT and it worked for me. So now I had my server up and running, and I was quite happy and satisfied with the render speed. I added in a Quadro K2000 (only room for single slot in there!) and proceeded to work on the NAS part of the project. The server has 3 hot-swap HDD bays that connect to a SAS backplane. It came with 3 80GB SATA drives and I used those for my testing. I wanted to set it up so that it would have a system drive with OS and software and then a RAID 1 with the other 2 drives for storage and working over the network. All the testing went fine, I switched the backplane to Intel ESRTII in the BIOS, figured out the configuration and everything, it worked great. Tested removing, wiping and rebuilding drives, all good. So I went and decided it was time to buy and install some proper HDDs. I got myself a 2TB WD RED for the OS and two 4TB WD REDs for the RAID1. Today I was installing the whole thing, until I tried to configure the RAID in ESRTII and I noticed that... the 4TB drives only get detected as 2TB drives! So apparently my quest of setting up this stupid thing is far from over. I went on Intel's website and made sure everything was updated: BIOS, firmware, chipset, backplane firmware, SAS RAID controller and all that, everything I could find from Intel's page and install from EFI Shell. Still, my drives are only showing up as 2TB. I read somewhere something about drives larger than 2TB and compatibility problems with old stuff. I can't seem to find a solution. The server has a date on the inside, it was build in December 2009. I guess it is kinda old, but I figured that with drivers from 2014 it really shouldn't have this kind of problem..? Anyone know anything more about this? Possible solutions..? Is there ANYTHING at all I can do to make this server work with 4TB drives..? Or have I just wasted 300$ in drives I can't use?

they are both 2 TB , Western Digital Blue 2TB , Seagate Barracuda 2TB , the WD is 5400 rpm , the Seagate is 7200 rpm . they have exactly the same price , which one? ( gaming and uploading videos )
-
Which company is best for 2tb internal hardisk. Western Digital blue or Seagate barracuda. Western digital blue comes with 5400rpm and Seagate barracuda comes with 7200rpm. Cost difference between these 2 in my country is around 7-8$. I have bought an Samsung 250gb Evo 850 SSD. And my preference is for gaming.

Previously... Like the other topic says, i had a problem where windows didn't recognize the drive, i got it to work, i've moved like ~350gb to it because my external HDD is getting full, so i left it move the files for about 3 hours, now i came back and found an error saying that one file couldn't be found, so i wanted to check the internal HDD to see what files has been moved and i couldn't find the drive... again, checked on diskmgmt.msc and it didn't show the drive aswell, i don't know if the cables has moved but i don't this could be a problem or i don't know. So i disconected the drive because i needed to use my other drive (from my old pc, i only have one sata cable to spare lol). I'm gonna try to connect it later, but if windows doesn't recognize it again, do i need to format it? i don't wanna loose the files that i already pasted in it (i should've just copy).

So i bought an WD Black, and i can't see it on the explorer, It shows on the bios and on speccy, i bought it for my new pc (which some parts still needs to arrive), so i wanted to move some files to it because i'm getting short on space so i connected it to my old pc and this happened, do i need to install a driver or something?
-
So I am just putting together a list of parts for fun for a future build I may do, and I was looking for a long term storage option (at least 2TB) other than the SSD for the OS. I looked at the WD Black because of the great performance, but then a few lines down, I see the same amount of storage on a Seagate Barracuda for half the price! What exactly is the difference that makes the WD Black so much more expensive? Is the extra price worth it?
